  1. I love this character. You have everything there, all fields filled in with an interesting character. I suspect the help staff might feel the same way too ;) . But hey, what do I know! (Really my opinion means nothing, but I don't see any issues with your app that need to be addressed)

I hope to see you in the game soon :D Excellent app :)

    Thank you. :3

I really like this character. A lot of thought was put into it and you put a lot of fascinating stuff in your application - better than any app I think I've made, hehe.

That aside, although this application has no glaring flaws, there is no such thing as the perfect application. Although none of this is strictly speaking necessary, it could potentially help the app if you expanded just a tad on the history (though you put a lot of information in the cutie mark story - very good work on that front!). You talk a bit about her mother, can you tell us just a smidge more on her father and family in general? In addition, you talk about how she gained and lost many friends - can you perhaps tell us how she gained and lost those friends? And you mention two relationships she was in - can you tell us more about that? That seems like an important part of a character's development to me is all!

Your personality/summary is also great, but you mention mood swings, and what they are like, but I'm a bit confused as to why she gets these mood swings, as these are generally a result of early psychological development. If possible, you could expand more on this.

That being said, your application is far above standard and all of the changes I mentioned are merely optional additions - good work, fine sir/madame!

Ah, the reason I didn't go into further detail about her family, her friends, her relationships... is because I didn't want to go overboard. I wanted to keep things a certain length so as not to overwhelm people. I already have a lot of detail. And apparently, from what I've seen in the rules here, they don't like too much elaboration on romance. So I don't want to try to step on anyone's toes. However, a lot of the friendships and such didn't work out merely due to conflicting personalities. Arguments, and the like, befriending rather aggressive ponies in contrast to her normally non-aggressive behavior, and her moodiness overall causing her to sometimes snap at inappropriate times, or sometimes just smile at the wrong times. Others couldn't keep up with her and just found her too confusing and erratic to be friends with. She just couldn't maintain them. I'll try to put some of that in there.

As for the mood swings, it's really due to her family. It could be explained more from her parents in general behavior, who herself suffered from a few mood swings. From seeing these mood swings and inheriting them, it kind of amplified her behavior. So I guess there's that about her family, they're kind of moody themselves. They tend to add a bit erratic and odd. I suppose that'd tie into expanding their roles too and simultaneously explain that.

Thanks for the suggestions though! I'm glad you like it, and I'll make sure to edit it a teensy bit more to add those details. Don't want to go too long. (Also, it's madame, heh.)

  2. I only got a shiny new digital camera which I'm pretty sure was just a pity gift from my parents that my mother was originally going to own. (Not sure what to do with it because I'm not much of a photographer. @_@) They couldn't get me much of anything because they just didn't have any money this year. Of course, I'm going to get a belated new computer in February when they save up the funds. So there's crossing my fingers for that... this thing's kind of falling apart.

Nothing pony, no. I don't really own a single bit of pony merchandise except one McDonalds toy. I also didn't give out any gifts, because well, I don't have money or really any friends to give gifts to. Nor do I have the time to draw out what I believe would be an adequate gift.

  3. I did a 99% run on Final Fantasy IX, beating all of the sidequests... including the first super boss I've ever beaten, Ozma. I've beaten him twice. It's really one of my proudest accomplishments because on the first time, I got lucky TWO TIMES. My party died twice and Eiko's Phoenix came to revive them for me. In case you aren't aware, that is INCREDIBLY rare. I had insane luck on my side.

Oh and also, I beat Sephiroth in the original Kingdom Hearts. Dear lord, was that DIFFICULT. The second and currently only other super boss I've beaten. Did a 100% on that game. It took me a million tries, but I finally wiped my forehead in relief when I finished it. I was at around level 90, equipped with an Ultima Weapon, and I beat him on Expert Mode. Even someone I know who is a gaming expert that likes to challenge himself could not beat him. :3

  4. Wow..... you have amazing art, Drawsborough! I'd love to see more of your work whenever you get the chance to show it all off. :D

Thanks! I think I've shown off all my recent work worth showing though.

Note, just because its a vector, doesn't mean its a trace. :) Very awesome art, can't wait to see the rest.

I wasn't implying that in any form. I was merely stating that it is not a vector in addition to not being traced despite similarity to show poses. But thank you. :3

  5. Hay. I have paws too and I still can brohoof. :3

Welcome! I'm also a furry. Later on, I might even be changing my avatar to my fursona. (Which I find more important than my current avatar - my ponysona) But yours looks pretty cute. I like the book and the bandana there. I've been here probably as long as you, so I can't really give you the ins and outs of this place. It seems pretty cool thus far though. I hope you enjoy yourself!

  6. I definitely feel there is a lot of stuff in season 3 that was popular among the fandom, whether in fanfics or just in general. I'm not sure if it's coincidence, or if they're actually gearing things toward the fans. I feel that it IS a bad thing, because I didn't start watching the show for the shout outs. I want to watch an unbiased show for kids, that is magical and colourful.

This sums up my thoughts perfectly.

I feel that Season 3 has been a significant downgrade from Season 2. (Though Season 2 IS when it all started. The Last Roundup fiasco and Rainbow Dash constantly being put in sunglasses for no reason) All of the pandering is just so obvious, so hamfisted. And people can wonder - why is this a bad thing? Because when you try to pander to an audience, make an active effort (especially an audience a show was not made for), it detracts significantly usually from the work rather than just doing your own thing and continuing to allow it to be good in its own context. It's like they're shoving it in the faces of bronies for them to eat out of a plate. "Look what we did! Now love us!" Knowing this honestly makes me feel a little disgusted and disappointed with the crew. Can't they have the confidence that their show CAN be good enough without needlessly pandering to a periphery demographic that it's not even made for? An occasional reference or shout out for them is okay. But the levels the show has been getting lately... all I can say is at least the latest episode was centered around Applejack. It didn't have much pandering in it at least.

I feel pandering to bronies too detracts from it being a show for little girls. And the only one, at that, that's actually any good for them. A show made for females is now trying to pander to a base of males. As a female myself, that makes me a little upset. There aren't enough good shows for us out there. It almost feels like the bronies stole the show away from little girls. Honestly? The demographic of teenage males and older is quite lucrative. It's often what most marketers try to pander to. You guys have enough good shows and choices for you. Little girls do not. It's just sort of disappointing. If you like the show for what it is anyway and accept that your demographic is not the primary one, you don't need to be pandered to.

  7. ArtsyDreamscapesR.png

    Roleplay Type:
    World of Equestria

    Name:
    Artsy Dreamscapes

    Sex:
    Female

    Age:
    Mare (Young Adult)

    Species:
    Unicorn

    Eye Colour:
    Brown.

    Coat:
A mild tan. She wears crimson glasses and a golden necklace with a small ruby on it around her neck for accessories.

    Mane/Tail:
Long, curly and sort of wavy dark brown with a single red curled streak going through it. She wears a large red flower in her mane.

    Physique:
Shorter than average and a bit more chubby. But it's more subtle. She is very physically weak and not athletic in the slightest, exhausting easily from even the slightest physical task. As such, most of her strength is focused in her magic.

    Residence:
    Trottingham

    Occupation:
Artist. She sells her abstract art paintings for other ponies in her gallery, and occasionally does artistic performances.

    Cutie Mark:
    AMCV8-5Tiny-1.png

It is an odd crimson abstract symbol created by Artsy herself in her drawings representing her creativity. It also symbolizes imagination and her pension for abstract (and also various other types of) art. The symbol also resembles the flower she uses to create the paint that puts her art on paper, except tilted in a different direction and two of them attached together. (The resemblance is better seen when Artsy is facing the front rather than the side, as the flower in the reference above is seen from a different angle)

Artsy had also spent most of her time as a filly fantasizing about what her cutie mark would be, and drawing various versions of it. However, for most of her life, she had trouble with basic telekinesis and rather raw uncontrollable magic, thus causing her to repress and restrain it out of embarrassment One day, however, after a long day of work and throwing out old ideas about possible cutie marks, the unicorn was tired and decided to take a walk to clear her exhausted brain. On her way through the the streets of Trottingham, she found a single glimmering red flower upon the ground. It was looking at this flower's overall shape that the unicorn was struck with a stroke of inspiration. The inspiration and urge was so great, that she simply
    had
to draw it down on paper. But before she could, her repressed magic suddenly burst forth from her horn, creating a light show of glorious abstract shapes and illusions from her fantasies. Including... an abstract symbol that had been floating around unconsciously in her mind. This odd abstract symbol, unlike anything anypony had seen before, was the pinnacle of her creativity. She immediately trotted to her home, with flower in hoof, and drew the shape down on paper. Before she knew it, the shape had appeared on her flank... and now she had a cutie mark.

As she grew older, because of her previous containing of her magic, it took her concentrated effort and training to eventually control her magic. She became a very skilled unicorn using her determination, specializing in art-related telekinesis (lifting a pencil or a paintbrush, for instance), and intangible artistic light illusions of many mostly abstract vague shapes and dreamscapes that bedazzle and amaze. (They can never be anything too well-formed, such as another pony. The more well-formed they are, the less she can create. She could only at most create a silhouette of another pony or of various settings) Yet she still had trouble with non art-related telekinesis, and is currently extremely sloppy with using it for anything else. As well, she never fully recovered from her magic containment, and cannot really do much of anything else magic-wise. Her magic mainly pertains to anything involving creativity. But she is still skilled within the limited fields she can utilize.

Currently, she is able to use these spells to create spectacular displays and works of art, and uses the same type of glowing magical flower she found on that very day to make a paint that allows her light illusions to tangibly actually be put on a canvas. She first focuses all of her creative thoughts carefully, then casts her Dreamscape (the light show spell) to allow the thoughts to take form. Afterwards, she will take the multiple amounts of paint she created by grinding her stock of flowers and toss it at the lights. The paint sticks onto the lights and take on their shape, glowing. Then she uses her magic to shrink or skew the shapes as needed and puts it upon paper or canvas. This is how she creates many of her commissed paintings and how she will conduct a performance in her gallery. Though she is also capable of drawing normally, but only does this for more detailed images that she cannot create light illusions with. Due to her unique way of creating art, her normal art does not get as much attention and thus does not earn her as many bits, which is why she mainly does art in this manner. To this day, the very same flower she found when she received her cutie mark is the one she wears in her mane. (The flower in her mane lost its glow long ago.)

    History:
Born in the luxurious Trottingham to an earth pony and a unicorn, Artsy was a young filly who had experienced many issues with her magic. Her parents merely allowed this problem to festoon, assuming that she would grow out of it and learn to control her powers. This was due to her mother mostly being the most active in her upbringing and as an earth pony, there was simply nothing she knew about teaching a unicorn how to use magic. The two, though well, meaning, were quite erratic in their personalities and had a tendency to have various mood swings, jumping from one conclusion to the next in a second. Her mother was especially rather worrisome, being paranoid and extremely protective of her daughter. Something which Artsy herself inherited and learned from. The earth pony mother's constant reminder of her magic problem only made matters worse.

As she entered magic kindergarten it became more apparent that this issue would not go away. As previously mentioned, she restrained her magic out of embarrassment Though Artsy was a very bright student, showing intelligence and obedience to her teachers, her refusal to perform magic along with her strangely secretive behavior had her flunked and friendless. Her parents enrolled her into a more regular, diverse school that included the other types of ponies, and though she excelled here with her intelligence and good manners, the memory of her failure remained...

It was such feelings of inadequacy and loneliness that caused a lot of her emotional issues. But there was a bright side to be had for this poor pony. She was one of the first in her class to gain her cutie mark. For you see, Artsy had spent most of her time alone creating art, realms, stories, all sorts of odd ideas. She was often consumed in her work, and became one of the first in her class to realize her special talent and gain her cutie mark.

Other ponies were amazed and impressed, garnering her more positive attention amongst her peers, and causing her to regain a little more confidence. With this small bit of confidence, she was inspired to finally once and for all learn how to use her magic properly. As previously mentioned, she trained long and hard with intense determination until she finally grew into her own. Artsy gained and lost many friends along the way, and managed to blossom to a more confident pony, though still with past issues. She also found love - twice - but those as well were as fleeting as the friends she lost. Constant arguments and hostility proved to be the end of her relationships and friendships, and still haunt her to this day. Part of it was due to conflicting personalities - she had a tendency to befriend the more brash and aggressive who didn't appear to understand her sensitive and artistic nature. Not to say that they were bad ponies. It was simply that she and those ponies were not compatible as friends. The other part was merely her erratic mood swings learned and inherited from her parents. These inappropriate reactions confused and in some cases alienated the few she had managed to befriend. As a result, she was made well-aware of how fragile friendship is.

Her special form of creating art, meanwhile, attracted the attentions of several Trottingham tourists. Using some bits she earned from a few street performances and commissions, she rented her own space for a small gallery. Currently, she shows off at the gallery, immersing herself in her work. At the moment, she doesn't really have any close friends and keeps a distance from other ponies due to her general timidity at befriending ponies and fear of rejection from past experiences. Instead, she purchased a small black cat named Apple (after her favorite fruit, the apple) as her pet to keep her company as she works. One day though, she hopes to find true friends who will stay with her no matter what.

    Character Summary:
A pony that is rather anxious, timid, neurotic, and naive, Artsy tends to keep to herself. Eccentric and very emotional once you get to know her, with some wild mood swings at times. She displays a fiercely passionate temper and attitude for things that she is driven to do, such as those who she cares for. Her determination and patience almost seem limitless, as she is not the type who typically gives up. When working on a project she cares about, she puts all of her heart and soul into it with such intensity that it can be declared somewhat insane.

Yet in her mood swings, she does have a tendency to become rather gloomy and moody. At times, she can become depressive and negative if she succumbs to them. As well, if her patience is tested to its limits (which is definitely very possible), her rather explosive temper will come forth and prove that Tartarus hath no fury. But it is only rarely that she expresses the anger within her. Due to her moody nature, it is very difficult to make her truly feel happiness even if she tries to put on a brave face. This is something that she searches for constantly and only feels when she has true friends and love. Her overall timidity and fear of rejection makes it difficult for her to befriend others. But deep down to the core, Artsy is a very lonely pony who wants to make friends more than anything in the world. When she finds close friends to truly love, she will be absolutely loyal to them no matter what.

In the eccentric vein, Artsy has a tendency to make up odd random nicknames/words for those she knows more. When she has bursts of energy, she can be very over the top and often ramble about odd stories she has made up. Her mind is always brimming with some sort of odd creative thought that she at times cannot control and has the impulse to unleash. She has an odd sense of fashion and enjoys wearing clothes and accessories at all times to being completely nude like most ponies. It causes many ponies to regard her as a unique and rather odd personality, yet also unforgettable.

As well, she's kind of ditzy, having a tendency to misinterpret less obvious jokes/sarcasm. She's typically honest and sincere in her interactions, yet not blunt. And keeps her truer feelings to herself. She won't lie, but she won't exactly say the whole truth either. However, it's typically easy to tell when she's keeping something. Her exp
ressions and body language are extremely expressive to the point where she can't really control themselves. And as a result, her emotions are always obvious in some way.

She finds herself more at ease in the presence of domestic animals rather than other ponies, and as a result has a tendency to dote on whatever pets she obtains, showering them in ridiculous affection.

Some other of her glaring flaws include extremely low confidence and lack of social graces.

  8. It varies per year. Most of the time, I feel the holidays to be an enjoyable experience. However, there are certain years... such as 2009. And this year, yes. I can safely say that no, I do not feel holidayish at all. I received one gift - a camera - out of pity and consolation from my parents due to... a certain incident that ruined pretty much everything. It's less merry and more gloomy for me these days.

  9. I am a drawer and designer of OCs, so that's mostly what you'll be seeing in this thread. Note, I do not vector in any fashion. All of these were hand drawn, and not traced. Some were just heavily referenced from show poses.

    Pearl Light (Earth Pony OC)

My secondary OC, Pearl Necklace, is featured in this art.

Dawn of the Six (Featuring multiple OCs. The only one that belongs to me is the tan unicorn mare, Artsy Dreamscapes)

    The other OCs include:

    • Klopp Thunderhead, the white pegasus stallion to the left. (Klopp's OC, another new member who just joined here alongside me)

    • Nicolas Quill, the tan earth pony stallion in the middle. (Nicolai-B's OC of DA)

    • Flareth, the green earth pony mare in the middle. (Flareth13's OC of DA)

    • Jack Stache, the blue unicorn stallion with Artsy. (Blinkingsky's OC of DA. Designed by me)

    • Violet Fox, the purple pegasus mare to the right. (AnthpathicZora's OC of DA)

Artsy Dreamscapes Complete Reference (Unicorn OC)

This is a detailed reference for my primary OC and ponysona, Artsy Dreamscapes. The cutie mark? It represents creativity and originality, being a symbol that Artsy herself designed in her artistic endeavors.

    Springtime Shine (Earth Pony OC)

Made for Hasbro's pony OC contest a while back. Didn't even make it into the finalists, sadly. I worked very hard to make this one fit into the show.

  10. Welcome to Canterlot, Arylett! You won't find a better place for detailed MLP RP than this very forum. Just curious though, but is the friend that referred you here a member of Canterlot? :)

Oh, yeah. They go by the name of Ice Storm. But that's good to hear. I have been lurking and I've seen some of the kind of stuff I'm into.

    Welcome! We love artsy/geeky/nerds here!

Feeling up to posting some of your art for us?

Sure! I'll probably be putting on one of those thread things later.

Welcome to canterlot, hope you like it here :)

Thank you ever so much. :D

  11. I don't know how you feel about it, but you were female in your last earthly incarnation. You were born somewhere in the territory of modern Yukon around the year 950. Your profession was that of a preacher, publisher or writer of ancient inscriptions.

Your brief psychological profile in your past life:

Timid, constrained, quiet person. You had creative talents, which waited until this life to be liberated. Sometimes your environment considered you strange.

The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation:

Your main task is to make the world more beautiful. Physical and spiritual deserts are just waiting for your touch. Keep smiling!

That is ridiculously accurate to me now. Seriously... how does it know? O_o

  12. About Myself: Copypasted from my profile with a few modifications:

The name's Arylett (Dawnsborough) in every place I attend. (Dawnsborough's sadly too short to fit here) I'm a female pony fan, and highly advise that you not call me a brony. Unlike many others, I do not see the term as gender neutral and only believe it refers to a male fan outside of the target demographic. So yeah, call me anything else you see fit but that.

Now, for some things about me? I'm an artist roleplayer nerd geek thing like the majority of the internet. Most of my work lately has been pony art, particularly of my various OCs and my ponysona, Artsy Dreamscapes. That's her in my avatar, drawn by me. She's a pony whose personality and physical appearance are heavily heavily based on mine. Please note: My art is NOT vectors, in spite of its resemblance to the original show style. I actually seek to emulate vectors' smooth lines with my hands and draw everything out without tracing.

However, I do creating enjoy non-pony art as well. Particularly of my upcoming original roleplay project, Arylettopia, and drawing a species of anthropomorphic canines known as Messengers that I most identify with. I based them partially on ponies, particularly as they have three races. Dog, Fox, and Hyena. Yeah, I'm somewhat of a furry and my fursona's a Dog Messenger. I identify more with dogs than with ponies, as a matter of fact. But I still enjoy my ponysona all the same. (Ironically, I have a pet cat despite being more of a dog person. It's a strange long story.)

Regarding my roleplay status? I'm experienced and have 10 years of roleplaying under my belt. I prefer roleplay with detail rather than more casual ones on forums. Also, I was once a former head of roleplay on another pony forum, but left as the roleplayers were too unruly and casual for my liking. Hopefully, I'll find some more advanced roleplaying here. I'm always available for a good RP. Really, I'm more into the OC scene and roleplaying than the actual show itself, having more of a lukewarm interest in MLP in general. The appeal of MLP to me is its design choices of the characters and overall art style moreso. But I enjoy the show as a casual distraction.

As for my personality, I'm rather shy. Somewhat of a living Fluttershy. Timid and sensitive to criticism and insults. So please try to be gentle when talking to me. Other than that, I also tend to a bit no-nonsense and serious, as typical internet humor does not amuse me and I have no tolerance for idiocy and drama. I tend to only post if I have something of detail to say, and can be rather long-winded in every sense of the word. However! This does not mean I do not have a sense of humor. I very much do. It's just kind of unusual and strange. Also, I'll act polite and courteous towards anyone regardless of disagreement or drama, and try to move on from such.

How I found Canterlot.com: A friend told me about it.

How I became a fan of MLP:FiM: Long ago, in February of 2011, I saw some moderators on an old Pokemon forum I used to frequent changing their avatars and usernames to pony-related things. I wondered what in sweet Celestia's name they were on. /My Little Pony/? Really? How could anyone like so mindless and sugar-coated a show as that? (I'm not really a fan of ultra pink girly stuff, despite being a girl, you see. I hate it.) I saw they made a thread about it, and looked on in derision. They linked to the first episode and I watched both it and the second. Then I stopped. "This isn't that good." I thought. But I found my thoughts consumed with it over the next few days, trying to find some articles about bronies criticizing them. Then I, somehow drawn to the show, decided to watch more and more episodes. I found myself unable to stop, impressed with the little references of continuity in the first few episodes and the beautifully minimalistic art style that I sought to imitate. A few days later, I sighed and admitted defeat. I was now a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

My favourite main cast pony/s: Fluttershy
The above says it all. But yeah, hi! I'm here to hopefully kill some time with some ponies and RP. I'm rather bored and lonely these days. Hopefully you guys can give me a good diversion. :3
