1. Is it me, or am I the only that thinks that the Canterlot Forums are slowing down in speed?

There is usually new posts and threads made an a predictable speed, but there are almost no new threads and very few new posts in the existing threads. Heck, the chatroom seems to be the most vacant ever since I first joined this forums!

  2. Time flies doesn't it? Unfortunately, it's not good for the individual pony. It would be a good thing to prepare for the upcoming night now. Now what would a pony need for the night? Shelter? A fire? After the encounter with the timberwolf, however, it seemed best to find a shelter elsewhere. A fire for warmth and light would be nice, but the fire would have to be made at the site. Nonetheless, the loner decided head north to see if there was anything. And it wasn't fruitless, as he managed to enter the town center. The main building at the center of town looked affected, but surprisingly in good condition... at least for a post-cataclysmic event. There was some damage, some burning marks, but it otherwise looked to be a two story building with good support. The pony decided use this as his shelter for the night, and possibly sleep upstairs if possible.

  3. The pony, now indulged in panic and dread, feared an encounter with the timberwolf. Instead of attempting to fight it, he decided to hide from it. Somewhere a little deeper into the city, the pony could find a structure still standing, albeit ruined. It was two stories tall, and the second story looked as if it could be accessed fairly quickly. With little time to think, the pony ran to the ruins, and quickly "entered" the building via a hole in the wall. The stairs seemed in fair condition, so he attempted to climb them. But alas, the stairs were actually decaying, and he fell threw. The timberwolf cried out again, and it sounded much closer...

What will the pony do now?

  4. ((So basically:

    Ponyville in rubble and ruins

    Nopony seen yet

Various weapons and pieces of broken armour scattered

This what you were thinking of?))

That's the right idea. And remember, you can add almost anything as long as you don't provide contradictions to already posted lore, and don't hog all of the story telling process. It doesn't have to be because of a civil war, I only used that as an example (I personally felt you were nudging on that path). Nonetheless, continue on.

You can also add survivors, I just don't want it in the very beginning.

And I also see that people are adding a breif summary into what they added. I should probably put that as a rule.

  5. You know what? I have an odd little idea, and definately a unique idea to the Spam Stables. Let us all think of a post apocalyptic Equestria. Let us assume the role of an unfortunate soul who is still around to witness a newly warped Equestria. What will the pony encounter? What kind of world is it currently? Can we find any information to point to a plausable cause to this unfortunate demize? What are the other races doing in this landscape? How many carcasses are lying around in the streets (Okay, that may be too graphic for Canterlot...). You know, that kinda stuff.

To do this, everyone can add to the "lore" of this realm. However, a few rules are needed:

    1) The whole world is in a post apocalyptic state. Even though I say "Equestria", it would seem easier to assume that the whole world is in this state, at least for the convenience of writing the lore up.

    2) This takes place immediately after the cataclysmic event that mutated the Equestria we know into the infirm world that we are going to attempt to describe. Therefore, assume that there is discord everywhere (as in, no structure, no groups or organized cities yet; "it's every man for themselves" for a little bit). "Structure" may be added later on in the thread.

    3) No "Fallout Equestria". Basically, try not to copy from Fallout Equestria (such as the vaults for example), although I'm more concerned about the use of FE technology than other features really. Please note that I haven't FE, but I do know some knowledge of Fallout, so I ask of you not to slide any FE stuff into the thread.

    4) Keep all information close to the canon. As in, no random new technology that's more advanced than that of Equestria's technology, no aliens, etcetera. Mutations or the similar are allowed, so long as it is currently, or will soon be, explained as to how it happened. Following canon strictly is superfluous, as it may hinder the flow of the thread and all possible creativity. It, in my opinion, may be best to be somewhere inbetween canon and non-canon.

    5) Keep the lore formation process in an articulate way. Base your lore off of the lore already listed. For example: the general idea of the thread is that there was a sort of civil war, and everyone was building the lore and describing the enviornment of Equestria based off this. Don't be that one guy and go off on a tangent about how the Zebras thought it would be hilarious to raze Equestria, and continously give contradicting statements to the lore that is currently arround.

    6) Avoid "wall texting" lore. We don't need a few people monopolizing all of the lore; give other people a chance.

    7) It's open world. You aren't just stuck in Equestria. You can go to other places, such as the Kingdom of the Griffons, and see how they are doing.

    8) This is a semi-RP thing. When you go to post, you "move" the pony around. You don't have to be detailed on what the pony is doing, just be detailed on the enviornment and what said pony may encounter.

    9) Please put a breif summary of what you contributed into your post, and please use a spoiler. I ask you to do this for organization's sake.

    10) You can add survivors, or gangs, organizations, or the similar, etcetera, I just don't want them added during the beginning parts of the thread.

    11) If you have any questions, PM me or add them in this thread via spoiler system.

Idea/Recommended: Let us try this out. When someone makes a post, you end in a question. For example, your post may be about how the pony found a cup that looks special. With this, you finish the post, and ask, "what will the pony see when he fully views the cup?" Then the next participant writes out his post talking about the cup, and how it is a sign of how there are others nearby. Then this person ends his post with "what will the pony do with this new information?" And so on and so fourth. Basically, you type an answer to the previous question, or something close to it (you don't have to be restricted to answering the question specifically), possibally add a little more, and then ask a question giving a good suggestion on what the next participant shall do.

Those are all of the rules that I can currently think of that may help keep this thread running smoothly and keep creativity up. I may add new rules (rules 9 and 10 and 11 for example) when I see fit. I will especially do this because I know now that my rules and the goal of this thread may be a little hazy for some people, so I may expand or rephrase rules or add new ones to help better explain what's going on/what to do.

With that said, I shall begin. But I will only begin with this:

The pony is at the outskirts of Ponyville...

    Major Points So Far:

    1. Ponyville is in ruins

    2. Pony sees aftermath of fight, wonders what caused it

    3. Timberwolf comming, Pony takes spear and aims it

    4. Attempts to hide in ruined building, falls through poor conditioned stairs

    5. Timberwolf ran away, no understandable reason why

    6. Pony searches house, finds saddle-bag. Late afternoon comes

    7. Decides to find shelter, goes to middle of town, decides two story building at center is good

    8. Bunks in building at center of town, contenplates what could've happened

  6. Yeah, these two last issues were a hoot. I can never get tired of Andy Price's art, and the gags were really funny...

I too find the artwork within the comics to be eye candy. I would argue that it is one of the better art styles when it comes to making MLP comics.

I foundmyself laughing more often with this issue (well technically the arc) than the other issues. So the gags worked like a charm.

  7. I would love it if there was an episode going deeper into the lore of the world that FiM takes place in. Most episodes only seem to be about a simple-ish problem that one of the characters or some of the characters are having. I personally feel that the series doesn't attempt to explore the lore as much because of this. To specify when I mean explore the lore, I mean I want an episode (or several) detailing more of the history of Equestria and other countries within the world, more details on the races inhabiting the world that FiM takes place in, etcetera etcetera.

  8. Dragons... Ponies don't know much about them so maybe Spike and the Mane six go interview some fully grown dragons?... And, uh... We need another Spike episode.

i would like to see them expand more on the zebras

I too think that we should expand the lore of the dragon and zebras. We barely know anything about these races. Quite sad seeing how they have the great potential to fit well and have a huge impact.

On top of this, I also want to see more of those Arabic horses that were only given a few moments during the ending of that one Trixie episode.

And a little more on the griffons please... Man, there are a lot of ignored races in the cartoon.

On a side note, almost any animal could be put into the FiM universe. Just make the entity look cute and tune down the violence if needed.

  9. I hate when people write earth ponies as some sort of underclass when that is never even hinted at in the series. This stems from people in the fandom being uncreative when it comes to magic, believing earth ponies don't have any when it is more likely it is all an inherent part of their presence instead of more apparent spell casting done by unicorns. People also have a have a skewed version of unicorn power, based on Twilight using her magic to such great effect, however it has been stated in the show that Twi's powers are exceptional and extremely rare, and most unicorns have just "a little bit of magic" geared towards their special talent.

    This...

I too feel that the fandom thinks of the Earth Ponies as underclass denizens. I hate this is, especially since they are the only ones able to grow food. Kind of a big deal, don't you think? They're also noted to be good when dealing with animals, and the best of the three races by far. Other pony races may do this, but it is a rarity to behold. The only example that I remember of a non-Earth Pony doing exceptional with animals is Fluttershy, and she is a one-in-a-million in this regard. It's also been suggested that they hold immense physical strength, if not more than the other races.

I too feel that certain members of the fandom over glorify the power of a unicorn. People tend to forget that unicorns can only do one specific type of magic, often associated with their cutie mark, with the exception of telekinesis. Twilight Sparkle is a one-in-a-million when it comes to magic, so her magic prowess will outclass most others.

  10. Arguably a majority of metal is dark, and not necessarily because of gritty guitars and growling/screaming. Epica can be pretty dark; but their music is pretty varied, as to contrast with their darker songs. And even if the music isn't that dark, the lyrics can be heavy. Therion does that sometimes.

Well, I guess that a majority of metal being dark is true. But with the decent size of the Power/Viking and the other lighter sub-genres, I would've assumed that I would come across at least a few by now.

  11. A Metal thread? *slams fist on table* How come I was not informed of this!?

So from what I've read, aside from a brief mention of Drudkh, I find the lack of Folk metal unacceptable!

There, one video to alter the tide, and a big ol' list to keep the waves rolling: Ensiferum, Finntroll, Korpiklaani, Primordial, Orphaned Land (Middle Eastern oriental folk, with other death and doom metal elements), Heidevolk (they have the best vocalist(s) in the Folk metal scene period), Týr, Moonsorrow, Elvenking (early albums, they moved onto an infusion of Power metal in the album 'The Scythe' and beyond). And although I've only heard a touch, there's apparently some really good Folk metal going on with Central/Native American cultures, though they seem to mostly be fused with Power metal as well.

And I suppose I should drop a few vaguely obscure bands no one else I know seems to have heard of: 3 Inches Of Blood (just some straight up blaring, blast-beating, banshee screeching, guitar screaming, puke on your shoes swords and sorcery heavy metal), Rotting Christ (Greek black/melodic thrash metal, their later albums are good: Sanctus Diavolos, Theogonia, Aealo; but their earlier albums I don't like as much), Melechesh (Middle eastern black metal, lots of ancient Mesopotamian mythology and mysticism woven into their verses, they've become one of my all-time favorites), Keep Of Kalessin (they automatically win happy points for their name referencing Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea series), The Kovenant (Industrial black metal that makes Marilyn Manson look like Candyland), Midnattsol (Norwegian metal band with folk themes and an ethereal Gothic sound to their instrumentation), Naglfar (so-basic-it's-good blackened death metal, imo better than Dissection, who could be considered competition), Bal-Sagoth (a blend of power metal and black metal laden with heavy synth symphonies, sci-fi/fantasy story arcs with black metal vocals and deep-voiced story narrating; so cheesy that it's good), Virgin Black (symphonic doom with some neat male/female operatic vocals and some death growls), Fleshgod Apocalypse (this is one of the fastest Death metal bands out there, I'm not kidding; they make the Han Solo's ligh-speed look like old lady driving).

Oh God there's so many more bands I'd like to post, but I'll just drop all my fave Metal genres in no particular order: Death, Power, Black, Folk/Viking, Prog, Gothic, Heavy, Thrash, Industrial, and Symphonic.

I've actually heard of a few of Forefather's songs. From what I heard, I liked 'em. And many of the other bands you've listed I've also heard of. Nothing else to comment on this subject.

But with this post, I've noticed a pattern. When it come to metal, you have at least two main types of "metalheads:" those who listen to the more darker things (thrash/death/etc.), and those who have a broad taste.

  12. I completely agree. Super Collider was a bit disappointing, but Megadeth is still better.

To a mainstream audience they are a bit underground.

    Yeah, it's pretty cool.

Of the few people that I know of that listen to both Metallica and Megadeth, they most of them say that Megadeth is better.

    Yea, Stormwarrior is somewhat underground.

  13. I do, but sadly, never interact with them a lot, just me with my computer every single day and rarely go out, yet alone finding a girlfriend. :( That's just sad, as much as I want to change, it's hard when technology can turn on us. Let's not forget the NSA privacy scandal.

Well, at least for me, I'm still in highschool. The social atmosphere isn't beneficial for me. I plan on doing more socially things when I exit highschool.

  14. Ah, okay. Symphonic Black Metal is my favorite Black Metal sub genre.

I should also mention that I like Megadeth and Metallica. Those bands are necessities for a Metal thread.

I'm not sure if I label them as 'underground' or not. I've met a few people who like them, and a lot of people don't know who they are.

Recently, i've started reading online Metal magazines, and searching up new bands by genre. I have an account on MetalStorm, which is where I do all that stuff. If you go there, and search up a genre of Metal (in the top right hand corner), it lists a whole bunch of bands in that genre. It's a good way to find new bands to listen to, and see what other kinds of bands there are. :kissy:

Megadeth and Metallica aren't really needed. However, since we're kinda on this topic, from the songs I've heard, IMHO Megadeth > Metallica.

For the underground, are you talking about Stormwarrior?

And that MetalStorm sounds interesting. I did a quick check on it, seems pretty neat.

death metal, grindcore, thrash, black, speed, classic, blackened death. and others

i honestly grew up on it.

kicked to death by Lord Gore, I sold myself by caliban, pure evil and hate by behemoth, crucified ones by vader, raining blood (slayercover) by vader, slaves shall serve by behemoth, welcome home by king diamond, pit of zombies by cannibal corpse, clouds over California by devildriver, hangman's i've been sober by devildriver, slam pig by amputated, done with everything die for nothing by children of bodom, loco by coal chamber.

please note that a fair number of those songs are NSFW

I recognize many of the listed bands, but I assume that the rest are, on some level, Death Metal.

  15. Brain Drill is Technical Death Metal, Wormrot is Grindcore, Emperor are Symphonic-ish Black Metal, Brutal Truth are Grindcore, and Fleshgod Apocalypse are Symphonic Death Metal. SYL are hard to put into one genre. They're like Extreme Industrial Thrashy Deathy Metal or something like that. :-|

Aside from the Death Metal and stuff, I also like System Of A Down, Nightwish, Tyr, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Stormwarrior (super awesome Power Metal band).

I know what Emperor plays. But otherwise, the rest was informative.

And a lot of those bands that isn't the "Death Metal Stuff" you've listed I like too.

And yes, Stormwarrior is quite the awesome Power Metal band. I'm suprised someone else has heard of 'em.

  16. Thrash has always been my favorite sub genre. I also like Black, Power, Death, Prog, and Grindcore. I also like Punk and Hardcore.

I got into Metal when I first heard Anthrax's "Caught In A Mosh". It grew from there when I started listening to other stuff. Metal helps me when i'm angry or feeling down.

I guess a few 'unknown' bands I like would be Brain Drill, Strapping Young Lad, Wormrot, Emperor, Brutal Truth, and Fleshgod Apocalypse.

I've heard of Emporer but the other bands don't ring a bell. What sub-genre do those bands play?
