1. A rather simple question, really. What do yall find yourself drawn too in video games, or novels, or fiction, or etc. What do you tend to look for, and enjoy over and over. I ask, because I find it interesting to see what people like specifically in certain things. Kind of an interesting thing to know, but I digress.

I myself adore intrigue and mystery, and I'm a bit of an Anglophile when it come to the Victorian ages. So, I love the settings and technology in Steampunk fiction, and thanks to Sherlock Holmes' popularity, there's no shortage of Victorian Age mystery novels. I find there are few things better than that brilliant moment a hero gets when they unravel the villain's plan. Grand deductive moments are just the kind of crowning moments of awesome I live to watch.

Not that I don't enjoy me some good old fashion high-fantasy action. Dashing sword fights and romanticized gentlemen thieves have a lot of appeal. The Princess Bride installed a love of rogue-ish heroes in me a loooooong time ago.

    So, what are yours?

  2. I'm up for some RP! The characters I have that you'd be able to find in Canterlot are Elderflower, Riff Run, and Luminous Charge if you have a preference of who to interact with. Pick a pony, any pony! Then maybe we could work out an idea for what the circumstance could be, heh.

Well, thank you for the fast reply, and I apologize for a slightly delayed one. After looking over the three you've got, I would say your namesake (that is to say, Elderflower) is probably the most likely to run into Sunny, given proximity. Not to mention a slight personality contrast, which always keeps things interesting. Though, again, I'm adaptable.

Interesting OC you've got there! I need to get my new OC Auri in some threads, so we could always try working something out with him. I guess it would hinge on which of El's OCs ends up being involved.

Aureate's app can be read here: http://www.canterlot...ureate-compass/

As a side note, is it possible Mercurial Sun has any interest making a trip around Equestria? ( http://www.canterlot...interest-check/ )

Indeed, I can see quite the friendship between these two. A cartographer and an astronomer? Between the two of them, neither sky nor land would be unmapped! Also, as a reply to your side note, I believe Sunny could be persuaded to tag along. 'Twould build character, or something along those lines.

  3. So, It would appear as though my original RP post seems to be a bit... well... untouched. And that's fine, I'm by no means upset whatsoever, but it would seem as though I should try this whole thing from a new angle.

Namely, actually planning stuff out. So, I don't suppose anyone would be interested in RPing with the new guy?

    http://www.canterlot.com/topic/14616-mercurial-sun-ready/page__hl__%2Bmercurial+%2Bsun

For a brief overview, Mercurial Sun is a rather erratic pony, with a flair for dramatics and a tendency to go from calm to a metaphorical explosion of passion at the drop of a hat. Not that he's a downer. Quite the opposite really; Ol' Sunny is consistently and constantly optimistic. Rather happy fellow, frankly. Oh, and he lives in Canterlot.

That being said, I'm really not looking for anything in particular. I'm rather open to suggestions, actually.

  4. Whoops, didn't mean to copy a former quote. Let me try to make up for that one:

“God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.” ~Terry Pratchett

  5. ((OOC: I hope nopony minds a little resurrection))

Mercurial Sun stared at the application form that currently laid on his table with a rather thoughtful look. For one thing, he wasn't exactly the kind of stallion to hit the dating scene. So, he wondered, why did he grab the application. "Well, that's a silly question.", he thought, "The answer is why not, of course". He gave a small grin as he picked up a nearby pencil with his mouth and started writing. Worst case scenario, he would waste an afternoon. Not exactly a big loss, and certainly one the somewhat distractable pony wasn't already familiar with. Best case scenario? Mercurial got a date, and maybe even with a mare who was as optimistic as he! Or maybe they liked astronomy too, or maybe... Mercurial trailed on with the unending list of best-case scenarios as he wrote down his information...

Hi there! Thank you for choosing One Plus Another, Equestria's choicest blind-date and matchmaking service! Just a few minutes of your time, and you'll be on your way to finding that special match chosen just for you! Please answer the following truthfully, and to as much detail as you think is necessary!

Name : Mercurial Sun. Though, Sunny works too.

    Gender : Stallion

    Gender preference (Optional) : Mare

    Location : Canterlot

Age : Stallion, and more specifically on the younger side

    Species : Earth Pony

Species preference (Optional) : Now why would I let a little thing like speices keep me from a good time?

Cutie-Mark (Optional) : A sun wearing a top hat. Or is it a top hat carrying a sun underneath it? I can never remember...

How would you describe yourself, physically? Physically? Well, I'm not exactly winning any sort of sports event anytime soon. Though, I suppose that doesn't matter as much, because, you know, too each their own. Why, if I got into sports, then I'd be taking the fun away from people who really enjoy, and that's what makes watching sports fun... and I'm getting sidetracked. I would say I'm ever-so-slightly below average when it comes to my physique

How would you describe your personality?

How wouldn't I describe it? Well, for one thing, sad certainly doens't work its way in there. Or pessimistic, either. Rather fun word that. When it gets right down to the core of, well, me, I guess you could say I'm optimistic. If the cup is half-empty, I'd probably be the guy refilling it. Not that I like to brag, of course. OH! I do tend be a little on the hyperactive side, and then the calm side, and then the hyperactive side again, then somewhere inbetween, then maybe the calm side. Keeps things interesting.

What things in life are important to you?

Oh, certainly my profession is up there. The profession being astronomy. I could go on and on about it, but that's not exactly the point of this letter, is it? I guess I've always been rather fond of ponies having a positive outlook on things. I'd might be inclined to say I even dislike the company of ponies with a cynical streak, but honestly the change in opinion can be rather refreshing from time to time. Besides, there's nothing like a good debate to pass the time. OH! I almost forgot to mention, I absolutely adore a good sunny day. It practically screams 'Me!' (get it? Cause my name's Sunny?)

What's your idea of the ideal first date?

And here's the tricky question, isn't it? I mean to say, what exactly does a good date make? Its hardly the locale, but there is a certain way ambiance can affect the mood. So, I guess you could say I'm a big fan of a good old fashioned coffee house, at least to start. Someplace quiet, and tucked out of the way, and certainly doesn't provide any sort of upsetting mood. After all, who hates the smell of coffee? From there, I suppose we'd just... talk, really. If, or rather when seeing as how I trust your expertise, we hit it off, I would like it to be a meshing of like-minded personalities.

    What are you looking for?

Why, a date of course! Nah, but seriously, I'm looking for someone... good-mannered. By which I mean nice. Not exactly polite, although that wouldn't hurt, but somepony with a lighthearted heart. A hardhearted heart is just the kind of heart I find hard to be hearty around. Aside from that, well, would it surprise you if I said I wasn't terribly picky? I mean, why deprive myself of an opportunity to really get a unique evening? OH! Maybe I should have put something about a unique night in the last question...

Anything else you think we should know?

As I finish this letter, it occurs to me that there is one last thing. I mentioned I live in Canterlot, but distance really isn't an obstacle. Well, not one that can't be overcome, anyways.

You're done! Just mail this to Matchie at One Plus Another, 413 Saltyhoof lane, Fillydelphia, EQ, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can! Have a wonderful day!

  6. On a road just outside of Canterlot

As the sun hit the top of the sky, it was hitting a certain pale-blue pony rather hard. Apparently Mercurial Sun had forgot to check the weather ponies' schedule, or he would have known that today was supposed to be a rather hot day. Not that it bothered him, though. If anything, he just happily concluded he needed the sun anyways. As he walked along the dusty path, every few steps he would absent-mindedly stop for a second to clean off even the slightest speck of dirt from his legs. If he were going very far, he might have remarked that at his pace it would take a while, but luckily he was where he wanted to be. From where he stood, Canterlot was no more than an hour's trot away. He looked at the distance with a small smile before moving on to phase two. Planning things in phases made it sound more professional.

Using the utmost care, Mercurial Sun (or Sunny, as he was often called) removed the saddlebag he had slung over his bag. Peeking inside the bag, he made certain that its contents were safe and sound. With that done, he walked over to the side of the road and placed the bag gently on the ground, and looked up. The sun was now ever so slightly starting to go down. As Sunny waited, he passed the time going over the phases of his plan. Phase one, go outside of Canterlot. Phase two, wait for night. Phase three, assemble the contents of the bag, and finally Phase 4: do some astronomy related stuff.

Now, Sunny very well new that he could have easily skipped phases 1-3 and just charted stars or study constellations within the confines of Canterlot, but there was little novelty in that. There was something to be said for roadside astronomy. If Sunny had done it more often, maybe he could have even been the one to say something about it. Looking at the spot on his hoof where he'd put his watch if he had one, the Earth Pony remarked that waiting for night would take a while. All that meant, of course, was that he had plenty of time to find something fun to pass the time!

With that thought, Sunny gave a rather happy sigh and started whistling. Then he remembered he couldn't whistle.

"I should really learn how to do that sometime" He remarked.

  7. Did I really forget to...

    *Checks last post*

    Yup. Totally forgot too.

Terribly sorry about the miscommunication, but I had implemented the necessary tweaks by my last post. See, I was trying to paraphrase the changes, but I guess I never really said I made them. Whoops.

  8. I believe I've mentioned my favorite as Applejack earlier, and I still stand by that. She's the most down to earth pony (pun only slightly intended) and I still maintain she has the moral high ground in the show. I mean, she's the only pony who ever sent a letter about how she already knew the episodes lesson and she's often playing sort of a role model. That has to count for something, right?

Okay, adament opinion aside, my second favorite would probably be... let's see... Oh! I know! Octavia! Such elegance, such refined taste, such wonder! How does she hold that bow with only one hoof, or better yet, how can she even hold the strings? The world may never know... nor care! She's just that extravagant!

  9. Oh, I love JonTron, RageNineteen always makes me laugh, Brentalfloss' with lyrics are among my favorite video game related songs, and those four are probably at the top of the list.

Of them, RageNineteen is my overall favorite. I just like his style of humor, and he updates frequently enough for very few people to complain.

EDIT: Three. I meant favorite three.

  10. So, everyone else has a fan theory, I though I'd make my own. Well, I think its my own. For all I know I'm stumbling onto something obvious or previously talked over, but enough talk, let's go back a thousand years or so:

First off, everyone remembers Hearth's Warming Eve, right? That's the centerpiece of the theory. I propose that the the events of the pony civil war (that's what I'm calling the events pre-Hearth's warming treaty) took place directly after King Sombra's take over of the Crystal Empire. That's why they aren't involved, they were enslaved and cut off from other civilizations, and they were forgotten because Pony Christmas overshadowed the whole event.

Anyways, the Crystal Heart is capable of spreading love. Fact. Also fact, when King Sombra returned, the area outside of the Crystal Empire's force field was a blizzardy wasteland. Moar facts: Windigos, creatures fueled by hate, cause blizzardy wastelands. I should think that the jolly old Kings takeover and subsequent tainting, or blocking, or whatever of the Heart stopped the love from being spread, causing sort of an emotional backlash across Equestria. In other words, without any love, the ponies started hating and what's easier to hate than differences? Cue Pony Civil War.

Now, Celestia and Luna come in. They arrive and promptly kick King Sombra's posterior into banishment, and he banishes the Crystal Empire. This get's rid of his influence, and stops the spread of hate long enough for the more sensible ponies to arrange a treaty and banish the Windigos Sombra brought around, purposefully or not. This, as the first actual unification of the three races, probably built the Elements of Harmony to represent their unification. However, it was not to last as the chaos of war (well, strong disliking really), hostile takeovers, love becoming hatred, and the rise and fall of the blizzardy wasteland was probably hectic enough to get a certain chaos loving draconequus' attention. Discord comes along and threatens the new stability with his own rule, but the princesses came around in suit, collected the elements and with the power of friendship banish Discord to a life as a pigeon roost. I like to think this event was what got the two sisters coronated as the official rulers of Equestria.

I also like to think there was no outside influence involved in turning Luna into Nightmare Moon, because a princess, and a kind one at that, succumbing to jealousy and falling that far makes the whole story just a little more tragic, and it makes her redemption a little more touching.

I apologize in advance for using words like blizzardy and moar (no I don't). Oh, and feel free to poke holes or add to this as need be. I'm sure I'm missing something, so anything anyone could provide to iron out any details would be very much appreciated.

  11. A very fair point, and one that I won't argue. I have a feeling it won't get me very far.

So, hows about this: Rather than the previous idea, Nadir was inspired by the night and turned his talent of applied optimism towards it to achieve a sense of fulfillment It shows how his talent (passion) aids in his endeavor by truly driving him forwards, plus until he legitimately turned his attention upwards to the sky and thus his future career, it blends picking a career based of a talent with just a smidgen of 'choose your own destiny' carried over by the last idea.

    Zat work okay?

  12. Well, having just heard of this now, and not being privy to all the hype, I can say it was... okay.

Loved the animation, and plenty of the voicework was well done for a fan project, but I agree with pretty much everyone else that the story was where it sort of fell apart at the seems. Otherwise, it was pretty good, and the CN crossover was interesting to watch.

Final verdict would be "I don't regret watching it, but I wont watch it again any time soon."

    ^^^

This pretty much sums up my opinions quite nicely. I wish it was better than it was, but it was still enjoyable.

  13. Holy digital bombardment Batman! I can't say I was expecting quite so many greetings!

Lol. If midnightfallen won't cough up the welcome song, then I'll happily do it for you! But first, Welcome to Canterlot!!! You wouldn't happen to be the head of Collin Mockery here to grant me three wishes, are you? Lol. I better be careful with jokes pertaining to the lazer collection. They're antiques, by internet standards. Also, I'm loving your avi. Derpy's one of my favorites. Now, without further delay, I present your welcome video!

Actually, the Lazor Collection reference is just happy coincidence. I just thought "Greetings Mortals" works as an excellent attention grabber. Also, The welcome video is a nice touch.

Oh, and I just realized I left a 'lent' out of my Great Old One thingy. It was supposed to be an acronym for Google, but I guess its just Googe

  14. welcome.

I like Fluttershy, but your explanation for AJ made me stop and think...

And when that happens, it makes me happy.

Well, thinking is one of the few things I'm good at, so glad I could give you food for thought. Also, loving the pun in your signature.
