  1. hi hi I was watching Feeling Pinky Keen again and I suddenly had a revelation. I recall hearing somewhere that Earth Ponies were supposed to have a strong connection with the earth, plants, animals and living things in general, in the same way that pegasai have a connection with the sky and unicorns have a connection with magic. But if you can believe that all life has an energy to it, an energy that surrounds us and binds us. Suddenly Pinkie Pie's ability to predict the future makes perfect sense. She's actually some kind of jedi master... One wonders what else she might be capable of.
  2. hi hi Oh my gosh! I made the exact same mistake once. I bet she was thinking of acceleration due to gravity while near the Earth's surface.
  3. hi hi Maybe Rainbow Dash is keeping an eye out for any future competition?
  4. hi hi I liked the episode. I know a lot of people are going to say the moral is "whine and get whatever you want," but I think they are completely missing the point that Rarity was kidnapped! There was nothing trivial about her situation or complaints, unless you think kidnapping anypony is an ok practice. It is also a well known fact -which was demonstrated for the viewer with the dog whistle- that dogs have sensitive hearing, which is what Rarity deliberately used to her advantage. History is replete with examples of successful nonviolent resistance. So I'd like to counter any complaints that the moral was "whine to get whatever you want," with the suggestion that the real moral was "you don't need violence to get whatever you want." Especially since almost all of the other pony's attempts at muscling through didn't work very well.
  5. hi hi Thank you most sincerely. The background wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't gotten halfway done and then decided to start over from scratch.
  6. hi hi Anyone can learn how to draw with effort, when kids are little they'll draw anything without a care if it is accurate, but most people hit a stage where they get frustrated when they can't draw as well as they would like and stop. The trick is to not get discouraged and keep trying and eventually you'll get past that stage. One of my favorite artists who's been a big inspiration for me didn't start drawing until she was going into college and after 3 years of hard work was producing amazing stuff.
  7. hi hi I liked the episode well enough, though I think it could have been stronger. There are a few different ways the could have done this. I know the whole search for the cutie mark thing is an analogy for self discovery, but as it stands with me, it exists one degree of separation too far away to suspend disbelief without a bit of mental effort. On one hand it would be nice if they had a foil that wasn't themselves, like an external problem that they are able to solve, even if they don't find out their special talent. They could have relegated "the goal" to MacGuffin status and have them learn some different lesson in the process of the search (much like the first half of the classic nine act story structure). There was a lot of potential in the first half of the episode to have gone on all kinds of different adventures and have learned all kinds of different things. A different option might have been to attempt to ground the cutie mark goal more strongly in reality and really emphasize the different character traits in each of the three, in regards to how they handle overcoming obstacles differently. I hope that sooner or later one of them gets their cutie mark before the others and then we can learn the lesson that people don't need to be the same in order to remain friends, or they all make their mark and learn the valuable lesson that life is full of diverse challenges and that even if you aren't the best at something it is worth trying anyway. I didn't mind the song and dance bit at the end, Rarity's first fashion show made me feel a lot more anxiety. Overall I think this episode could have used just a smidgameter more polish.
  8. hi hi I don't generally bring it up with my friends, but I did get called out while gaming a few weeks back. I was GMing a roleplaying game and I was trying to think up of something evil that the big bad was doing. I was sort of talking to myself and I said "she's not whipping up an evil brew..." and someone else at the table bolted up straight and said "I know where that's from!"
  9. hi hi 27 here. I got caught by thedailywh.at though it was really just random chance that I clicked on the link from my usual perusal of lolcats. I guess I already had an interest in animals acting like people, but there's a lot more to like about it.
  10. hi hi Why thank y'all kindly. I started off with just random scenery, but I pulled in the landmarks because I wanted to emphasize the familiar and comfortable feeling of home. I'm typically rather busy, so I can appreciate the laid back feeling this forum has going on.
  11. hi hi I made this today, hopefully this is a good place to post it where interested people might see it. A Relaxing Afternoon Would have probably been easier with flash, but you make due with what you've got to work with.
