  1. 'Interactive storytelling' is what I like to call it. :P

Roleplaying is quite a common activity, especially amongst children. When you see young kids playing, they're often pretending that they're heros or villains, and they duke it out. That's LARPing, Live Action Roleplaying. To some extent, without really realizing it, all of us have, at one time or another, roleplayed.

I think one of the biggest challenges of online roleplaying is the writing. If you're not used to doing much writing, roleplaying can seem quite daunting, even overwhelming. What it really comes down to is applying yourself to your writing, and working to improve upon the things you struggle with. Firstly, I'd apply yourself to correct spelling and grammar (just as a general rule, I'm not pointing the hoof at you), as those are appreciated by your fellow RPers. And then, once you feel that you're strong in that respect, then focus on character interaction and dialogue. Description is one of the hardest things to master, and I struggle with it myself'; I tend to do only minor, necessary descriptions, and then focus on interaction/dialogue, because I'm better at those.

Wow, caught myself rambling there. I hope anything I said was helpful.

"I hope anything I said was helpful."

Trust me, it MUST have been. I've been RPing for at least two years (mainly chat rp), and that gave me one hell of a look in to how to RP well. I think I will be a better RPer when my character's bio is accepted nnow that I know a bit more - thanks to you. That was also a fairly interesting way to put it, with the LARPing. Never thought of that. Well, I never thought of LARPing as RPing, more like "playing pretend" as another pony on this thread called it.

    +1 Ponynet for you, sir!

  2. Name: Azure Tune

    Sex: Male

Age: Azure is a young stallion (About 19 human years)

    Species: Unicorn.

Pelt Color: Azure has a pale blue coat.

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Azure has medium length dark-ish golden mane, and a tail of the same color. His tail is kinda short. I'm not good at describing things, so you should just look at the picture at the bottom of this post.

Eye Color: Azure's eyes nice blue, close to an Azure blue color.

Cutie Mark: Azure's Cutie Mark is an Ocarina, which is a type of Flute. After all, he IS a music pony!

Physique: He's a bit shorter than his peers, but besides that, he's quite normal.

Origin: Born, Raised, and Resides in Manehattan.

    Roleplay Type: Show RP

Occupation: Travelling musician, street side performer.

Motivation: Over all things, Azure dreams of playing music for a large audience. He realised this when he obtained his cutie mark by playing music for his class during recess when he was still a little foal.

Likes: Playing his "Lucky Blue Flute," music, audiences, paintings, drawings, travelling, and stages.

Dislikes: Harsh criticism, rude ponies, not hearing music for at least an entire day, and making mistakes.

Character Summary: When Azure was a little foal, he always enjoyed two things - art and music. However, he found much more enjoyment in the latter. The latter had also a much larger effect on his life. He would always run away from home just so that he could listen to the beautiful sounds, and he always wanted to join the performers up on stage. After running away one night and not returning home for two weeks, his parents decided to put their hooves down and take action. They ended up locking all the doors and windows at night, and constantly kept their eyes on little Azure. This led Azure into a time of depression. He refused to do his chores, refused to go to school, and refused to do his homework. The only thing we was willing to do was cry. His parents couldn't take it for very long, so they did the only thing they could think of.

    They got him an Ocarina.

At first, he thought it was wierd. It reminded him of a flute, it had the flute feeling to it, but it looked strange to him. He was rather hesitant at first, and stuck to just being sad ol' Azure. It was only four days later when he realised it was the only way he could get over this music drought. He picked it up, and tried it out. He couldn't figure out how to cover the holes, so he did nothing but make high pitched noises until his parents signed him up for classes. Those classes would change his life forever.

Azure's teacher was extremely helpful. He instructed Azure on how to use his magic to play his instrument, and suddenly that high pitched noise wasn't the only thing the little one could play. Using magic to cover the holes of the Ocarina, he found that it had a haunting sound to it - a sound that seemed to touch a pony's soul. He quickly became addicted. He played it all day and all night. He started to wonder what it would be like to play for an audience. He played for his parents, but that was not enough. He knew they would support his love for music, even if he was no good. As long as he wouldn't run away, they would be at his side. Always. Therefore, he decided to take his flute to school with him. At recess, he sat down and played the instrument. He memorized an easy to play yet very pleasant sounding song just for this moment. Before he knew it, his friends were at his sides listening, enjoying the music. His teacher was praising him. And his flank was no longer blank. On it, was his cutie mark - a little flute that looked just like his.

Azure tries to be calm, but he is rather sensitive. Therefore, he tends to break down a bit easier than normal. He does not like offending others, but some times it's hard to hide the truth. He's also obsessed in his music, and is often caught humming to himself when he is not busy playing his flute. If he goes a while without music, he'll become extremely depressed and will refuse to do anything but sob until he gets to hear more of such sweet sounds.

Note - Not shown in the picture, he wears the flute on a string around his neck. That's how he carries it with him all the time.

Another note - He has an indian (You know, east indian) accent.

  3. Hey!

How did you hear about Canterlot?

I'm MyLittlePonyTales, but I just go by Tales around here. I'm one of the many great staff here at Canterlot. Please feel free to message any of us with any questions or concerns you have, or you can just leave another comment here!

If you didn't already, please take a moment to check out the rules section, just so that you're up to speed! :RDash:

You'll need to make at least 3 posts anywhere in the Introductions section before you can post on other parts of the board.

A good place to meet Bronies is in the Chat.

    Welcome to Canterlot!

Hi Tales! I originally heard of it from the STEAM group and checked it out. Decided not to sign up after quite a bit of consideration. Then, later, some Ninja Tales guy told me 'bout this here site. I recognized it immediately, and went straight back to considering whether or not I should join. I ended up deciding a few weeks later - YESYESYESYESYES! :D

Lol Ninja Tales is me too. :)

    ... Sorry.

  5. Hiya! I'm Lucan, and I...

... am a very interesting pony.

Just for fun, I'd like to -formerly- (Oh so formally) introduce myself.

I'm Lucan. I originally hated bronies because the first one I knew was rude to me because I didn't have interest. Eventually, I got to boiling point. Blocking him, I rushed to YouTube and watched the first episode. Before I knew it, I was in love with the series, and was getting my mother into it too (Hesitantly, was afraid of my dad finding out and labelling me as the family freak). I love watching Ponies (Preffer calling it just "Ponies" and not "My Little Pony"), and am a colt of many interests.

Some of my interests include - Playing my Ocarina (Memorizeed Zelda's Lullaby, Song of Storms, and am learning Song of Time. Got the ocarina on monday), going to hockey games (Detroit Red Wings FTW), Playing video games, and helping make them (I am a part of the Legend of Celestia development team). I think Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Twilight Sparkle are shockingly awesome. However, I cannot say the same about Rarity or Scootaloo.

Yes, I truely am obsessed in Ponies. Even though I may love them, I tend to have nightmares about them. My first pony dream had me turn into a pony and then watch my human body get ripped apart. Another dream had Scootaloo trying to kill me (Which is why I hate (Originally had the Kismessitude symbol from Homestuck here, but appearantly that doesn't work here!) her. Well, and how she acted in Cutie Mark Chronicles...). :/ I never understood why I have such strange dreams.

I'm also used to roleplaying. However, not quite forum roleplaying - I've been chatroom rping for a long time, and RPing in sandbox games for even longer - At least two years.

    I'm also getting into writing.

My catchphrase (irl) - "IT'S SCIENCE!" Usually done with the "V for Victory." In the United States of America, that means "Peace," for all my British friends.

I am least a thousand times as humble as thou art!

    So... yeah.
