Roleplay Type:

World of Equestra

Name:

Farmarer Sow

(Pronounced 'Far - Mare- Er')

Sex:

Female

Age:

Between Filly and Mare - Just on the cusp of adulthood

Species:

Earth Pony

Eye colour:

Light Sparkly Hazel

Coat:

Deep Brown with a few tiny spots of lighter brown

Mane/Tail:

A light yellow hay colour with a single streak of earth brown starting from the lower neck.

Her mane is of such length that her tail merges with her mane and is a similar colour, if not a litter bit darker.

Physique:

Strong but slim and not largely built since she is a filly. She has the body of an physical worker as one would expect a pony that farms.

Residence:

Just outside the city limits south west of Fillydelphia on a farm called Flatshead. It is a small wheat farm that is 4th generation in the Sow family.

Occupation:

Works on the farm sowing the grain.

Cutie Mark:

Three stalks of wheat at a variety of angles. The hay colour contrasts with her dark brown coat and matches her mane.

Her family has a history of wheat cutie marks with each pony in the family having a slightly different shades of light brown/hay and different angles they are at but not different amounts of hay so no pony can claim they are superior.

Farmarer was very excited the day she got her cutie mark, her father had given her the job of sowing the wheat for the first. As she threw the first seeds a faint outline appeared and as she worked through the day the mark became clearer and clearer. Farmarer was so excited about sowing that she didn't even notice her mark until she went back to the house and her father told her that her mark was beautiful. She spent the whole evening staring at her mark and her excitement kept her up late! She had a sleep in next morning but when she got up she went straight out and kept sowing!

History:

Farmarer was born into the loving Sow family and from being a very young foal tried to start helping out on the farm. Her father showed her how to do simple things on the farm such as feeding the chickens and planting carrots. She loved helping out even though she had her father there to help her.

As she grew up started going to school, she loved learning things but didn't like the structured classes and hated that she was always in doors. She had particular trouble with maths class as she could never figure out the difference between addition and subtraction. She loved history, she liked learning about old stories like 'The Mare in the Moon' and the three tribes and the founding of Equestra! She always knew that school wasn't for her and that she would grow up to work on the farm but she loved every minute of learning.

She made was a bit shy in school and didn't make too many friends but she didn't mind, she had her family and especially her older sister that she looked up to and her baby brother that she played with.

She always used to run around the farm with her brother chasing her. She'd hide behind a large wooden barrel at the side of her house and her brother would never find her until she shuck out, crept up on him and flip him onto her back and galloped around the farm.

Now that she is out of school her family relies on her to sow wheat every year.

Character Summary:

Farmarer just left school but never found her passion in education.

Helping the family on the farm. She runs the sowing of the grain a job given to the mature ponies in the family, given earlier to Farmarer because of her maturity.

She sometimes tries to help with the running of the farm business but despite her enthusiasm she has problems with numbers. Her family still loves that she tries to help.

When the harvest season comes, Farmarer is given time to adventure, often she heads east and canters along the coast at White Calf Bay. Last season however she headed up north into Ponyville but found that she didn't enjoy the cities as much as the freedom of the country and plains.

Farmarer loves to help out and also loves to see things grow. As an earth pony she has a affinity for the ground but also loves the breeze blowing through her mane. She is not an overly social pony and a little shy but with good friends she can be bubbly.

She sometimes thinks for long periods of time and she can sit under a the old oak tree a while off her farm for hours just thinking. Even in times of deep thought she still likes to help others out. She need time to be alone just as much as she needs time to be with friends.

Farmarer loves her family heaps but has recently been developing an interest in Colts. She doesn't know any yet but she's excited to meet new ponies and, for the moment at least, just make some new friends.

This is my first post and application so if its not good enough please give me pointers to make it better. I always love to improve

Hello Zanderax, welcome to Canterlot! May I suggest making a thread in the Introductions section so that we can all give you a nice warm Canterlot welcome?

Anyways, I'm Jane, and I'll be helping you out with your application! :) Creating a character for WoE can be a bit of a challenge as we have high expectations for quality and somewhat strict guidelines, but I shall be here to help you out along the way.

Firstly, I know you have this tagged as final, but could you please change the title so that it reads "Farmarer Sow (Ready)"? This is much easier for us to see. Also, to get the topic tag to prefix the title in the board, you need to tick the "first tag as prefix box" so that the "earth pony" tag is blue (it should look like this.) Note that you will need to have three posts on the board before being able to use the full editor to make these changes, so once again I urge you to post in the Introductions board. ;)

The application you have right now is very good, and I actually think this character will fit quite nicely in the WoE board. There are a few tweaks, however. The first thing that sticks out for me is her age and occupation. If Farmarer is indeed a filly, she should be a student in school, not running the family business. ;) This may be something she does after school or in her spare time, but if this is the case, then that information can be moved into the history or character summary part of the application, and the same goes with the information about her travels. Really, the occupation field should just read "student" and, if you want to add it, "she helps out on the family farm in her free time."

For the cutie mark section, you don't need to include the info about the rest of her family's cutie marks - this application is about her, after all.

The Cutie Mark, History and Character Summary sections are all very short. I understand that she's a filly so there isn't a whole lot to write about her history, but it could still do with a little bit more fleshing out than what you have here. Don't be afraid to go into details about certain evens, and expand on different concepts and areas of her life. You mentioned she's not good with numbers (I can totally relate) - is there a reason she doesn't like them? Is there another subject at school that she likes better than maths? How does she get along with her siblings - and how does she get along with other ponies in general? Are there certain types of ponies she prefers to spend time with more than others? She loves farming, but does she have any other interests? You don't have to answer all these questions specifically, I'm just trying to give you some ideas to help you get the ball rolling.

Also, one last thing:

She deals with grief over a long period of time and it can take weeks before she is back to her normal self. Even in times of sadness she still likes to help others out.
Since there doesn't seem to be any indication of a mournful event in her life (and please please please don't add one, as that would be a big step backwards as far as getting this character approved for WoE is concerned), this not only seems out of place, but it also reads a little bit like chronic depression to me. While depression is a very real thing and I am in no way belittling it, it's not very WoE-friendly and so we try to keep it out of our canon-based board. It's alright to play a character who isn't sunshine and rainbows every day of the week, and having moderate mood-swings so that she's not always cheery could certainly be part of her personality, but I'm just not comfortable with the idea of dealing with grief and sadness for "long periods of time" that have an effect on a pony being "her normal self" on this board.

Please post here once you've made the requested changes, and if you need any further help or ideas, don't hesitate to ask me. :)

Im on my phone at the moment so it is too hard to fix the OP but I will make the changes tomorrow.

I want to stay away as much as possible from angst and sadness so I will changed the depression part to more a trait of deep thinking acter a large event just to give the character multiple dimensions.

I wasnt quite sure how much to do for the ofher sections so I will flesh them out tomorrow as well. I didnt want to have too much so it is just waffle and have ponies not bothering to read.

Thanks for your help, you're one of the best mods I've seens and you actually really seem to care about helping out anypony

I did some more work on it.

I updated the age to better reflect the character I want.

I updated the occupation to be simpler.

I updated the history and character summary and just fleshed them out a little.

Heya! Thanks so much for making all the changes I asked for! :) I know that was a bit of a wall of text, so thanks for sticking it out. Everything looks great to me so I shall be sending it up for senior staff to have a look at now. :)

It's not a problem at all! And thanks so much for the encouragement! :) I'm not a mod, just a role play helper, but I've only been doing this for a week so I'm actually flattered that you think so. Just let me know if you need anything else, and I'll do my best to point you in the right direction. ;)

Yay! First application got through!

I think I'm gonna like it here.

Thanks for the rubber stamp!

Haha, not quite yet. ;) It needs to be stamped by a Senior RPHS (someone with this badge under their signature/one of the users on this list) before it's 'approved.' I just give it a first revision, then someone more experienced gives it a second look. ;)

So glad you're excited to get started though. :D
