A Diamond Dog was tough! A Diamond Dog was strong! A Diamond Dog knows her duty is to work the mines!

So where was everyone? Rook didn't much like straying too far from the group, but it appeared that most of the dogs weren't in the usual tunnels today. She was actually rather worried about it - had they discovered that these tunnels were unsafe? Maybe they were exhausted?

No, that couldn't be it. Rook had nearly filled her cart with Emeralds, Sapphires and Rubies in the past couple of hours. She did always think she worked better alone. She huffed and grunted as she tore away at the rock walls with her giant paws, freeing two more rubies and a topaz. She smiled to herself - this was turning out to be a successful expedition. It was too bad the others weren't around.

Okay, it had been a couple of hours now. Maybe she should be concerned. Positioning herself behind the overflowing cart, she began pushing at it with her claws as she made her way back towards camp.

The spider caught her attention first. A big, ugly thing that might have made a lesser dog scream. She moved away from the cart for a brief second and swatted at the thing with her tail. But when the creaking of the cart stopped, she picked up a sound. Someone was approaching her, and she couldn't tell if it was another Diamond Dog, or something else.

She stiffened, feeling the hair on the back of her neck stand on end. "Who go there?" she demanded, turning towards the sound of approaching footfalls, her yellow eyes peering into the darkness beyond.

((OOC: Trying to get some DDog RP going. This thread is open to all for now, including some adventurous ponies, but once I get one or two Equines in here, I'll close it to just be open to Diamond Dog characters.))

Griff had been wandering the tunnels for a while now, exploring as he often did. He had come here for a bit of peace, he he knew the others would be over in the tunnels that Griff had discovered several clusters of rubies. Now, while it would have made more sense to wait until the current tunnels had been exhausted of gems before telling everybody about more, Griff had to make sure he frequently found spots with gems. If he stopped being useful in this way, people might start to realise that he is rarely present to mine said gems.

Anyways, Griff was down in the tunnels to further fill in his mental map of the whole settlement, and to get a bit of piece. He had been following a spider he had found scurrying around until he heard a voice:

"Who go there?"

The tones were all to familiar. Rook. Rook and Griff had never really got along, what with her "Diamond Dogs are brave and strong and tough" attitude. She probably wouldn't take very kindly to Griff being down in the tunnels while everyone else was working. Why was she down here anyway? Griff considered running for it, but Rook had obviously heard him. He decided simply to confront Rook.

"Is just me," he replied with a nervous, toothy smile.

The big blue dog growled at the sight of the little scrap she recognized as Griff. A waste of space so far as she was concerned, always trying to shirk his mining duties, though she had to admit he seemed pretty good at finding gems. Probably the only reason he was still around.

She frowned, peering at him suspiciously. He was without a pickaxe, and there was no way a little dog like him could mine without one, so what was he doing in these tunnels by himself. For that matter, what was she doing in these tunnels by herself? They were surprisingly close to the surface of the diamond dog development. Rook didn't know for certain, as the tunnels of the Diamond Dogs were rather complicated even to those who had lived in the settlement their entire lives, and she had never been one to explore them as much as other dogs might. For all she knew, there could be anything lurking around the corner from where they were now.

"What are you doing here?" she asked the other dog, still keeping her ears perked in case another creature were to approach them in the tunnel. She felt it was important that she always be on her guard!
