History:

Born into a rather wealthy family, Fancy Pants was afforded an incredibly comfortable upbringing in Canterlot. He was suited by some of the finest tailors, educated by only the most accomplished tutors, nourished with a diet of superb quality and nutrition, and allowed all the pleasures and benefits a wealthy stallion could ask for. His upbringing was what anypony could ever wish for, and more. He had everything he desired, though in truth he did not desire much more than what was already given to him. For that matter, what he often desired most was company, and that was something that came easily enough amidst the Creme of Canterlot. At a young age, he learned the ways of social grace, how to act in both a dignified and charming manner, and how to surround himself with the 'right' ponies. Given his intellect, the skill of social manipulation was one that he excelled at, reading the emotions and intentions of other ponies quietly, then using those to his benefit.

In his foalhood, Fancy Pants made friends with a handful of others his age in Canterlot, many of them dictated to him by the families his parents knew. He didn't mind being told who to get along with, for that matter – it was fun, making friends! However, he found some of his fellow foals a bit too stuck-up to make true friends with, and those he found most fun to be around were often on the lower ends of the upper crust. Still, not once did he fail to extend the olive branch of friendship, and not once was he anything less than polite and well-mannered around anypony.

It wasn't until he was well on his way to colthood that he started to realize just how much he enjoyed being amidst high society, and being able to influence it. Within the first year of entering the finest private school in Canterlot, he quickly picked up on the nuances of socialization. He rather quickly figured who to know, how to influence them, who to trust, and who to simply make acquaintances with. This, of course, he used to his advantage, rising through the social pyramid with charm, grace, and a relentless cleverness. By the end of the first year of school, he was unquestionably the most influential student in the entire school, more-so than the young colts and fillies several years his senior! This, of course, brought jealousy and contempt from his older peers, but with tenacity and compassion, he managed to win over the more stubborn of the older colts, and soon enough, he was made class minister by way of majority vote. With his talents for social grace and sensitivity for others, he earned his first taste of actual power through social artistry, and almost immediately, he set about trying to figure out how to put it to good use for everypony. It was through his actions, both in gaining leadership and using it to benefit others, that he earned his cutie-mark – a triangle of equal crowns.

His trend of gaining social status through connections and networking only grew from there. Even before he entered his graduating year, there was no question as to which colt would be named Valedictorian. Though he was by not quite the most handsome or the most wealthy pony, he still had more friends and more acquaintances than anypony else, and for such events as dances and promenades, he was easily the most desired colt to be seen with. Despite all this, however, he let not one bit of it go to his head, for as far as he was concerned his humility was an invaluable part of his personality, and to betray it would slowly ruin him.

Once he was a stallion of his own means, he began setting out to conquer Canterlot. Perhaps conquer is not the correct word, but rather, to become the Most Important Pony amidst the high society. Throughout his youth, he had taken the time to look at the society around him, and he noticed things that he wished to be able to change. Segregation between the classes, to him, was something that should be avoided, for not only is variety the spice of life, but it simply wasn't fair to judge anypony based on the company they kept nor the family they were born into. The emphasis on excess, while sometimes comfortable, also struck him as somewhat wasteful, and so he learned to both appreciate and to make do not only to the grandiose and the spectacular, but also the humble and the earnest.

Now that he has managed to win over a fairly sizable portion of Canterlot's wealthiest and most prominent members, he has begun to slowly set out bringing a bit more cheer and acceptance into the upper classes of Canterlot, hoping to slowly ease away the walls of disparity between those of various social standings. It is a monumental task ahead of him, but as far as he is concerned, it is one well worth undertaking.

Character Summary:

Well, where can one begin when it comes to what is arguably one of the most notable ponies of Canterlot! There is the manner of unquestionably favourable social status, the splendour of properly-acquired wealth, the immaculate social grace and charm, and the ever-present aura of dignity and perseverance about this stallion, all of which are quite simply undeniable. However, these do not define the pony in question. They surround him, yes, and they are associated with him, but none of them are allowed to tarnish the truly golden part of him - namely, his heart.

Fancy Pants, in spite of all his wealth and influence, is an incredibly intelligent pony, and with that intelligence came not arrogance, but empathy. Given his huge head-start in life, being born into a very wealthy family with no shortage of social ties and interaction, he realized that he was in a fairly unique position from an early age. He could live idly, of course, and simply live life off of the family fortune, but that did not suit him. He could invest and become wealthier still, and with his mind that would be both simple and lucrative, but that did not suit him either. More than anything, he desired power in Canterlot, though to use for his own ends; he desired the power to bring about change, so that he might improve the lives of those who wanted to better themselves.

His is a philosophy not of equality or uniform consistency, but rather one of acceptance and embracing the splendour of variety and vivacity. Fancy Pants may be wealthy, but it is his belief that if one finds beauty in all things, rather than just that which aims to be beautiful, then the world is all the more wondrous to look upon. He enjoys the quality of life that being in high society affords him, both with the comforts and the luxuries he is both able and expected to surround himself with, but by no means does he aim to limit himself to it. He appreciates art and fashion in many forms, from the classic styles of the finest works to the newer experiments of the cutting edge, but also that which has long since been lost to society and that which is simply practical, rather than fashionable. He enjoys company of all sorts, from the grace and elegance of Canterlot, the honesty and charm of Ponyville, the honesty and earnest enthusiasm of Appleoosia, to even the distinct pride of Stalliongrad, though he most commonly keeps among those in Canterlot.

In summation, Fancy Pants is the most prominent of the unicorns in Canterlot, but by no means is he arrogant for it. He maintains his social position through charm and compassion, so that he may help broaden the minds and hearts of those around him, which he hopes in turn will improve things for those ponies not lucky enough to be in high society. He is a king among kings, the creme de la creme, but as far as he is concerned, that does not mean anypony else should be treated as anything less than his equal.
