"Free flight! YEEEEE HHAAWWWWW!" Haywire shouted as she danced around.

"Well, I reckon mah little sister will be safe with you, Gerrard," Haymaker said with a big smile, "I know I always feel safe around ya!"

"Thanks sis! Thanks Mr. Gerrard! See y'all later!" the blank flank filly neighed as she left the grist mill.

"So, Gerrard, what would ya like ta see next? Gotta lot ta see here, y'know!"

When Haymaker mentioned that she felt safe around him, the griffon grinned and cradled her with his talons. "I'll never let you down," he commented slyly before sweeping Haymaker off her hooves and catching her just above the ground as he leaned over her. Gerrard gently kissed his date and set her back upright with a smirk on his face.

"Let's go to the fields, the pasture perhaps?" he commented in an unsure manner. He didn't quite know what all was at this farm and hoped she might be able to guide him along.

"Alrighty, come with me to the hayfields," Haymaker neighed as she escorted Gerrard over to the edge of a huge area surrounded by a wooden rail fence. "The great thing about hay is its a very low maintenence crop. No plowin' er plantin' seeds required, and hay will grow practically anywhere! Most of the farm has land like this, set aside jist fer growin' hay! Now, we do plant other crops on this here farm, things like taters, wheat, corn, carrots an' a whole lotta other veggies. By the way, I haveta ask, what kind of things do griffons plant on their farms?"

Gerrard listened, able to follow everything she was saying. The hybrid nodded as he tried to understand the attraction to hay. When she asked what griffons grew, he chuckled and gently patted her on the head.

"Some griffons say I water ponies for a living. But really, griffons don't grow many plants. Most 'farms' there focus on big juicy livestock. Do fish farms count as farms," he asked with a chuckle as his golden eyes drifted down to check her response to his story. "Heck, that is probably why I'm here in Equestria. Not many irrigation jobs back in Aquellia unless you want to water grass for some animals to eat," the black griffon explained with a smile as he squeezed her tight.

Haymaker smiled in Gerrard's embrace, though she did cringe a bit when he mentioned fish farming. Fish? How could any creature eat living things that swim in the water? The red maned mare suddenly remembered, Gerrard's a griffon and they have a far different diet than ponyfolk do. Gerrard's charm and kindness often made Haymaker forget that the love of her life wasn't a stallion.

"Oh, I see," Haymaker said with a smile on her face. "I know y'all like ta eat meat, but some griffons do eat other things. Like pastry chef Gustav LeGrande, he's famous fer makin' award winnin' baked goods. Have ya ever heard of him?"

Gerrard could tell that she thought of farms as places for plants, the mare seeming shocked at the mention of fish. He thought it was odd, but decided to help clarify things for her. "Everyone has different tastes dear. Griffons usually need to eat a lot of meat to fuel their big wings. We don't have any magic to fuel our abilities," he explained calmly when she suggested avoid meat.

"We can eat other foods of course, but hayburgers can only fuel you so much. In regards to Gustave, of course I know about him, he is one of the most famous griffons in Equestria. Griffons like pastries in smaller doses than ponies. There is a reason why he mostly works in this country, it is just out of necessity. We can avoid meat, but if we do it long enough we just don't feel too good. I will tell you that griffon athletes eat almost nothing but meat to fuel them," he explained patiently, hoping she understood.

"I hope you understand dear. I won't make you eat anything you don't like. Anything else here you wanna show me Haymaker," he added warmly, gently cradling her with his large black wing.

Haymaker smiled in Gerrard's embrace.

"Well my love, there's one thing ya mentioned that you an' me's got in common," the lanky red maned mare said with a grin, "we Earth Ponies ain't got no magic either. Of course, if'n thar was a way fer a Earth Pony ta git magic, I'll betcha Haywire'll come up with it!"

Haymaker giggled as she thought about her little sister mishandling magic.

"I'm such glad she ain't a unicorn! Anyhow, my sweet, how about we take a scroll over to the bridge down yonder? Mah folks built it so we could access the land on the other side of the river. Fair warnin', the bridge is near mah sister's treehouse, so she might be droppin' in on us agin'"

Gerrard nodded when she mentioned that earth ponies had no tangible magic, the griffon watching her closely as she spoke. My classes have taught me that earth ponies have a subtle type of magic that connects them to the land and helps them be great farmers," he explained warmly as she lead him away from the hay and towards the bridge.

As the pony spoke of the disaster of her sister getting unicorn magic, Gerrard chuckled and tried to squeeze her with his wing, only to be reminded that he was still hurt. He winced and groaned lightly as he returned it to a proper position at his side.

He looked over the bridge and smiled, opting to nuzzle his love instead. "It will take more than rockets to keep me away from you," he cheered with a smile as he drifted his eyes towards the dangerous treehouse.

"Reckon ya gotta point thar, my love," Haymaker said with a bright grin, "we Earth ponies do have some kind of connection to the land, I never really thought of it that way before."

Walking carefully towards the bridge, the lanky red maned mare smiled wider when she heard Gerrard declare his devotion to her.

"Oh Gerrard, you say the nicest things," she said as she nuzzled up closer to him as a familar voice rang out from the nearby trees.

"HI GUYS!" Haywire shouted as the rust colored filly swung down towards them on a rope, passing just above their heads as she swang back upwards. "Glad ta see yur take'n in the bridge!"

On her downswing, the blonde filly released the rope just in time to make a perfect four hoof landing beside them.

"Did ya tell Gerrard the story of this here bridge, sis? Did ya?"

"Well, I did mention how dad built it."

"But thar's more to the story than that! Ya gotta tell'm the rest of it!"

"Ahh Haymaker, I just speak the truth darling, nothing special," he remarked calmly while resting beside his marefriend. The special moment quickly ended as her younger sister burst onto the scene in her usual excited manner.

Upon landing on the bridge in a graceful manner, Gerrard excitedly clapped with his jet black talons. "Great landing Haywire," Gerrard commented as he scooped up the filly in his clutches and placed her on his shoulders, straddling his head as he took a seat on the bridge. "I can't fly right now but I can still carry a filly, at least a little bit," the griffon remarked as he tickled the filly.

When she brought up the mention of a bridge story, the attention of Gerrard was captured. "Oh, did something happen at this bridge? Tell me about it please," the hybrid excitedly asked as he messed up Haywire's mane.

Haywire neighed with delight when the griffon placed her on his shoulders. She giggled when Gerrard tickled her.

"This is SO awesome!" the rust colored filly shouted, "wish mah friends at school could see me now!"

"Be careful, my love," Haymaker cautioned as she sat next to Gerrard on the bridge. "Don't strain yourself, Gerrard. And yes, I'll tell you the story of this bridge. Long ago, back when Hayseed and I were foals, we had neighbors who lived across this river called the McColts. Our two families were friends for many years, until one day, the McColts accused mah Ma and Pa of stealin' their produce an' they started a feud with us. When some of our own crops started disappearin', my Ma and Pa blamed the McColts! They were fixin' to have a big fight when me and Hayseed were out explorin' an' found out the crop thief was a mean ol' dragon! When that dragon spotted us, he flew after us. Me and Hayseed ran as fast we could screamin' fer help. Both mah family and the McCools heard our screams and rushed over ta rescue us. Workin' together, all of us chased that big ol' dragon out of the valley. After that, our family made peace with the McColts an' built this here bridge together as a sign of our new friendship. When the McColts decided to move to Dodge Junction, they gave us their land as a gift! So, that's the story of how this here bridge came ta be."

Gerrard smiled as he seemed to make the day of the young filly. He liked making the days of ponies almost as much as he liked being with his marefriend. When Haymaker mentioned that he was still hurt, the griffon nodded, making sure not to move too much with her on his back. "I'll make sure to avoid picking up another passenger," he commented with a smile, carefully messing up Haywire's mane.

He almost gasped as an idea sparked I'm his head. "Well maybe you can get a picture taken as proof, do you guys have a camera," he asked before being told a long story about a feud between the families.

He seemed enthralled by the story, following her twists and turns as she explained her family feud. Gerrard grinned devilishly as he puffed his chest out when the story was over. "If I was there back then I woulda battled for your family and got you the farm. Unless they threw a barn at me," he explained with a chuckle as he nervously stroked his long black beak.

"Jist so happens I brung a camera with me!" Haywire shouted, reaching into her saddlebag to produce it. "I bought this here camera a few months ago with the money I earned from sellin... "

Haywire stopped and placed one hoof over her mouth. She knew what she was about to say, hoping her big sister wouldn't catch it, but she did.

"Was ya sellin' more of yur hoofmade firecracker rockets?" Haymaker asked. "I told ya them things are dangerous!"

"I only sold'm to adults, sis," the rust colored filly said defensively, "besides that, would ya rather I keep'm all here in storage?"

"Well.. " the lanky red maned mare said as she thought about it. She didn't really want her little sister to make those rockets, let alone sell them, and it was one of her rockets that hurt her very special somegriffon. However, if Haywire was making enough bits to buy a new camera, could it be all that bad? It was as she was deep in thought that Gerrard made the statement about supporting her family if he had been there during the McColt feud. This brought a smile to her face as she leaned up against him.

"Oh Gerrard, ya say the sweetest things.." Haymaker smiled,

The griffon smirked as the young filly produced a camera. He wondered where she learned how to make all these dangerous objects. Clearly her family didn't help her in that regard. "I think it is best for everyone if you empty your stores of the boom," he explained with a chuckle as he turned towards his love.

"I mean all of the compliments too," he remarked with a smile as he leaned forward and kissed his marefriend in front of her younger sister. After releasing the kiss, he maintained his pleased expression and stared at his love.

"Can you take the picture for Haywire, I think she will love it," he commented positively before he remembered his condition. The slight aching in his wings entered his mind as he groaned under his breath. "Try not to get too much of my busted wings into the picture," he suggested with a smile as he held them close.

Haywire looked a little downhearted at the suggestion she give up making her beloved firecracker rockets. But at the same time, the realization struck her again that it was one of those rockets that had injured Gerrard. She gave out a heavy sigh but her mood brightened when Gerrard suggested that Haymaker take a photo of the two of them together.

"Well, I reckon I kin do that," the lanky red maned mare said, accepting the camera from the love of her life.

"Don't worry sis!" Haywire neighed, "oncest ya git a few picture of me and Gerrard together, I'll take the camera an' take photos of you and him too! How's that?"

"Ya gotta deal, sis!" Haymaker shouted, a beaming smile on her face as she walked backward to get a better angle for the photos. "Alright, now git inta a good pose!"

Gerrard loved being the center of attention, not that he would openly gloat about it, at least not without being asked. He thought for a moment when asked to pose, the jovial griffon grinning as he came up with pose for Haywire. Gerrard puffed out his silver feathered chest and turned his head the side in a dignified manner. The architect put on a fake regal personal to impress the filly' s classmates.

When the pictures were taken, he carefully snatched the filly off his back and placed her on the ground. "Any particular pictures you want dear," he asked with a smile as he leaned in and gave Haymaker a hug.

Haymaker smiles in Gerrard's embrace.

"Well, I'd like ta have us side by side here on this bridge," the red maned mare softly spoke, "it means a lot to me that you're now a part of mah life, like this here bridge."

"Whenever yur ready, I am!" Haywire gleefully neighed as the rust colored filly took her camera and stood by for further instructions.

"Maybe you and me kin have several pictures with different poses, what do ya say, my love?"

As she mentioned that they take pictures on the bridge, Gerrard nodded and glanced across to the wooden structure. He carefully lead her over to the peak the bridge, the ideal spot to take such a picture. The griffon stood close to her side and carefully wrapped one of his black talons around her neck. "If your bridge here ever needs some help, I think I can send some qualified help your way," he explained with a wink as he lightly tapped his free talon on the bridge beneath them.

"I think I can manage a few poses. But only because I love ya so much," he commented slyly for her as he gently kissed her cheek. The hybrid cycled through a wide variety of poses that went from regal to silly to romantic as he shared the moment with his love.

Haywire clicked many photos of Gerrard posing with Haymaker. The crafty filly even clicked a photo at the exact moment the griffon kissed her older sister on the cheek.

"THAT'S a keeper!" Haywire giggled as Haymaker instantly blushed hard red that was very visible under her white facial fur.

"HAY!" the lanky red maned mare shouted before quickly regaining her composure. "Er, I mean.. yeah, that one's a keeper!"

Haymaker turned and smiled at Gerrard.

"Reckon I shouldn't git all uptight about things like this, my sweet. I love ya and I ain't a bit ashamed about it!"

Haymaker threw her front legs around the griffon's neck and gave him a long kiss. Haywire's eyes grew as big as saucers when she saw her sister's spontaneous display of affection.

"WHOA!" the blonde filly said, unaccustomed to seeing her older sister act like this in front of her.

Gerrard smirked as their pictures were taken, the proud griffon a lot less shy than his marefriend. "Love ya too darling. I could spend all the time in the world with you, and I wouldn't even notice a minute passing by," he explained romantically for her as his tail wagged excitedly.

When she draped herself around his neck and kissed him passionately, the suave griffon was surprised, not expecting that out of her. He didn't protest at all, liking her attention as she managed to impress her younger sister. When the kiss ended he smirked devilishy and played with her mane as he set her back on her hooves. "I could scoop you up and fly away with you. Well, walk away at least," he corrected with a laugh as he held Haymaker close.

As Haymaker embraced Gerrard, Doctor Stable and Hayseed walked towards the bridge. Seeing the kissing going on, the unicorn physician turned and tried to lead her brother away.

"I think it would be best to not bother them at the moment," Doctor Stable said as Hayseed neighed excitedly.

"YEAH SIS! GIVE'M ANOTHER SMOOCH!" the brown stallion shouted out.

"Behave yourself, young stallion," the doctor said in hushed tones, "show some maturity!"

Haymaker didn't even notice or care about her brother's outburst. She looked deeply into her very special somegriffon's eyes and smiled.

"I feel like I'm already flyin'" Haymaker said lovingly. Haywire was still stunned at seeing her older sister's open display of affection. Her eyes were open wide as saucers and the rust colored filly had her mouth hanging open in total shock.

The griffon heard the shouting of her brother and chuckled as he shared the kiss. He appreciated the attention, glad to know her brother was on his side, something that had been an obstacle in the past.

Gerrard looked down to see a surprised Haywire gawking at him as the couple shared a kiss. He smirked and returned his golden gaze the his marefriend as he gave her a warm smile. "Where should I sweep you off to next," he asked devilishly as he held her close to his chest.

Doctor Stable continued to be annoyed at Hayseed's antics, but was relieved when little Haywire galloped up to them.

"Quit yur horsin' around, big brother!" the blank flank filly shouted, "yur jist actin' real rude! What if me an' Haymaker teased YOU like that when yur with Miss Carrot Top?"

"Gee sis, reckon I wasn't thinkin', was I?" the big earth stallion said sadly.

"Obviously not," added Doctor Stable.

"Now you git over thar and apologize right now!" Haywire demanded. Nodding his head, Hayseed lumbered over to the happy couple.

"Sis, Mr. Gerrard, I'm powerful surry fer teasin' y'all like that," Hayseed said after removing his hat, "won't happen agin."

"Reckon I kin furgive ya," Haymaker muttered, still feeling happy and peaceful in Gerrard's embrace.

"Alright, I think it's clear to me the best, medicine, for our griffon friend here is to spend more time with Miss Haymaker, alone and undisturbed, understand?"

"Well, yur the doctor, doc," Hayseed said as he turned to walk away.

"Yep, yur right, doc," Haywire added, "if'n ya don't need me ta take anymore pictures, then I'll go too."

"Y'know Gerrard, my sweet," Haymaker said with a smile, "might be nice ta take the tour of mah sister's treehouse, if ya feel up ta it, I mean. How about it? It's not far from here."

Gerrard was already immune to the many dozens of awkward outbursts that this family seemed to fall victim to. He had grown to expect them, and even was a little disappointed at how infantile the tease was. He strangely hoped for sharper barbs to make a witty retort to, but when the farmer was scolded, he chuckled lightly at the spectacle.

When his marefriend suggested that they visit the treehouse of her explosive loving sister, he gulped nervously. "Ahh, sure, assuming of course there aren't any loose bombs hidden in the building. I do need to heal, and I wouldn't want another set back. But if you think it's safe, I'll follow you to the ends of the world, " he commented with a smile as he looked over to her with his tired golden eyes. He played to her love of him and hoped to find out how safe the gunpowder palace really was.

"YAY!" Haywire cheered, hearing that her sister wanted to take their guest to her treehouse.

"Treehouse?" Doctor Stable said in a state of shock. "This little filly has a treehouse?"

"She sure does, Doc! I helped her build it!" Hayseed neighed proudly.

"I see. This I simply must see," the unicorn physician added.

"Sounds good ta me! C'mon y'all! T'aint far from here!" the gleeful filly neighed as she led the group down the path.

"This really means a lot to Haywire, thank you, my love," Haymaker said as she walked with her very special somegriffon. Soon, the group stood in front of the huge tree that holds up Haywire's split level treehouse. With two floors, a balcony, upper deck and lower deck, it was larger than many pony cottages.
