Crown Jewel [READY]

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Crown Jewel

Sex: Female

Age: Foal

Species: Pegasus

Eye Colour: Pale pink, almost like a pitcher of pink lemonade. Jewel occasionally wears brown-framed ‘librarian’ glasses, but her eyesight is well enough that she doesn’t use them unless she’s reading at the time.

Coat: A dull alabaster white, well cleaned and groomed by its owner every morning. It does not often stay that way, though, and it’s not uncommon to see dirt stains or other tarnishing in abundance over the course of any given day.

Mane/Tail: Jewel’s mane is plum purple and fairly long, with most of it kept brushed towards the back of her head, where the ends hang over the left side of her neck; the rest of her mane is styled towards the front of her face, framing her eyes, and it often blocks one of them if she turns too fast to one side or another. Her tail is comparatively much neater, brushed out straight with a small portion of it tied into a cute mini-ponytail that drapes over the rest. The only accessory she wears is a small red bow tied in her mane, along the left side.

Physique: Jewel has a foalish build that still has some layers of baby fat, particularly along her hind legs, but she is also slightly taller than average for her age, which proportions out her body nicely. Her wings are well developed for a foal, the product of her sky-bound father teaching her the basics of flight at a very young age, and she is capable of going airborne for short periods of time.

Residence: Manehatten, with both her parents and grandparents.

Occupation: N/A

Cutie Mark: Blankflank

History: Crown Jewel was born in Manehatten, to a pair of young lovers named Contrail and Silver Lining. Contrail had been a member of the Cloudsdale Weather Team on vacation in Manehatten when he bumped- quite literally- into Silver Lining on an exercise flight, sparking a whirlwind romance that led to Silver Lining's pregnancy and the newfound father requesting reassignment to the Manehatten Weather Team so that he could be there for his foal and marefriend.

The new family shacked up with Silver Lining’s parents shortly after Crown Jewel's birth, and they were initially quite displeased with Contrail for letting things get so out of control. They gradually warmed up to him when he proved to be a doting and responsible father, spending every moment he could spare from his frequently heavy workload with his daughter, his marefriend, or both. He has developed a close relationship with Jewel over her early years, supportive of her dreams as he is, and helped her learn to fly and strengthen her body, as well as played with her whenever she asked.

Silver Lining, for her part, took up a job at a local café as a waitress in order to supplement the family’s income, and worked closely with her parents to make sure that her daughter was never left alone due to the overlapping schedules Contrail and herself had to deal with. Compared to Contrail, Silver Lining was more cautious and thought more of the future than the here and now; nonetheless, Jewel gets along with her well, and fights between the two are rare and brief.

Despite their best efforts, Crown Jewel’s parents were only able to be with her a few hours every day: as a result, she learned more from her grandparents, middle aged ponies named Lamplight and Windfall, than she did from Contrail and Silver Lining. Every night, Windfall would tuck Jewel into bed and read to her from a collection of old books the older couple carefully preserved: tales of gallant knights in the service of the great princesses of old, protecting ponies from threats natural and magical alike and bringing happiness and harmony with their kind words and actions. Jewel adored the stories, frequently begging Windfall to read to her until she fell asleep, and more often than not, Windfall obliged.

As Crown Jewel grew older, she wondered where the stories Windfall told her came from and one day she voiced that question. The matronly mare was pleased by Jewel’s curiosity, telling her that many of the stories had been created based on the histories of real ponies in the old age of wonders; she even believed that one of her mother’s ancestors, Silver Ward, had been among them, a Pegasus who swore fealty to the House of Platinum in the years after the founding of Equestria as a gesture of friendship, and was eventually knighted for her good deeds and efforts to unite the Pegasus and Unicorn races.

Learning about her heritage sparked something in young Crown Jewel. She became headstrong and assertive, her imagination set aflame with vivid images of a great mare in golden armor galloping across the land to the aide of anypony who needed it- herself, of course. She would act out these fantasies in play, dashing and fluttering across wide fields (parks) to combat a great dragon (Contrail) with swords of gleaming silver (sticks); both father and daughter often came home covered in dirt and twigs, to the exasperation and amusement of Silver Lining. Despite these dirty habits, Jewel put extra effort into her appearance, cooperating with her grandmother to try and emulate the mane-styles of the shield-mares of old Equestria- though both of them were certain they never got it quite right. It was Jewel’s desire to find the pony she knew was in her heart: the lady among mares, strong and kind, with no fear of bullies or wrongdoers and the strength and guile to help others.

Character Summary: Crown Jewel is a strong little filly, driven by the belief that she can be just as noble, kind, and strong as her ancestor, Silver Ward. She carries herself as she perceives a lady should, with her head held high, chest puffed out, taking measured and sure steps; the whole look is quite cute, but Jewel takes it very seriously. In the face of adversity or danger, she’s much more likely to dive headfirst into trouble to protect others, and she can be very assertive, or so she thinks; to others, her attempts to intimidate them come off as amusing or precious. She places a high value on respect nonetheless, and is indeed very polite and kind (most of the time) when speaking to others. Many ponies young and old like her for her energetic and helpful nature, but just as many find her headstrong and occasionally pretentious attitude annoying; being her friend means being able to overlook the moments where she puts a figurative hoof in her mouth or tries to bite off much more than she can chew, but it also means having a friend who will always stand by your side no matter the troubles ahead.

Jewel holds the REA, particularly the Royal Guard itself, in high regard; she feels they have common ground, the Guard and herself, and never misses an opportunity to talk a guard’s ear off with questions about their history and duties. She’s repeatedly expressed a desire to enter into the Guard when she’s old enough- something her mother has tried to discourage out of concern for her safety- and doesn’t see anything wrong with making friends on the inside now.

By and large, Jewel knows what she wants to be when she grows up, and she is highly impatient about her cutie mark and her growth- even more so than most foals her age. In her mind, there is no other path she could possibly end up on than that of a knight in shining armor, and that it is all just a matter of taking the right steps to make it happen; the problem is those ‘right steps’ often get her into trouble and/or ridiculous situations on a semi-regular basis.

In everyday life, Jewel carries herself with an amusing mix of carefree foal and aspiring Equestrian lady. She occasionally finds herself politely greeting friends and family covered in all manner of debris after a rough-and-tumble shield-mare fantasy, and can move from passable formal speech to giggling foalish antics in the blink of an eye. She’s an attentive student, particularly in history classes, and often takes a leading role in group projects, directing other foals on what to do and how best to do it. Her grandmother’s stories have also led to her taking a liking to fantasy novels, and it’s only when she’s reading them that Jewel will tolerate wearing her (to her) frightfully ugly brown glasses.

Crown Jewel, unlike many foals, knows exactly what she wants to be and tries to devote everything she can towards that end- but that life-wide tunnel vision tends to blind her to talents beyond those she thinks a shield-mare should possess. While she is genuinely graceful when she means to be and has developed quickly on a physical level, she lacks the tact and finesse of a true noble and oftentimes will stumble into a diction wall while trying to sound formal and impressive. Her impulsive actions frequently cause trouble for herself and those around her, and even she sees that she has a lot to learn about maintaining a presentable appearance. On the other hoof, she possesses a will to lead, a powerful voice, and the beginnings of good management skills- all of which hint towards a talent for administration that Jewel has, to date, not taken notice of, as determined as she is to be a knight.
