My main one I learned from a book called The Art of Racing in the Rain. "That which you manifest is before you" and "Your car goes where your eyes go." They pretty much mean you are in control of where your life will go, and that you will become whatever it is you make yourself most focused on. As long as you lock your eyes onto a specific goal, your "car" will begin to steer in that direction.

There's also some bits and pieces my mom has said as I was growing up. Things like "plan for the worst but hope for the best" and "you can't help/change someone who won't help/change themselves".
