BlackJack
Roleplay Type:World of Equestria RPName:Maple SugarSex:MaleAgeStallionSpecies:Earth PonyEye ColorReddish OrangeHtml: CC3300Coat Color:Solid, heavy coat, such as a Clydesdale might have.Color: Light brownish goldHtml: CC6600Mane/Tail/Markings Color Style:He has a shaggy, rustic mane that tends to fall into his eyes. He will often use his blue plaid bandanna to get hold it back while cooking or working, but he would rather wear it around his neck. He keeps his tail neater than his mane, but not by much as he believes it's not the focal point of his being.Color: Dark reddish brownHtml: 990000Physique:Maple Sugar is a large, very stocky pony. He is heavily muscled with large hooves and a thick neck and face. Cutie Mark:A frozen maple leaf.Maple Sugar was working in his family's Maple Tree Orchard outside of Stalliongrad, but an early frost had made it impossible to tap the sap out of the trees. Undeterred, Maple Sugar hit the tree with his fore-hooves repeatedly, until the frozen sap inside the tree broke up and started to fall out of the tap.Origin/Residence:The Sugar family was originally from Stalliongrad, but eventually tired of the cold and moved a little bit further out and bought a Maple Tree farm. The weather was temperate enough to produce the best sap in the area. The farm was used as a Sugar Shack and Syrup business. Eventually, the little business attracted enough people that the family expanded their entrepreneurial efforts and opened up The Pancake Stable restaurant. When the harvesting season was over and they had a supply of syrup, the family would open the restaurant and cater to the breakfast needs of tourists and eager residents of nearby Stalliongrad. Occupation: Maple Sugar would usually work on the farm and in the restaurant as a cook, but is currently in the military as a field cook.Motivation:Depending on what situation he is in, his motivation will change. When he is harvesting for his family, his motivation is much more serious in that he wants the business to succeed so they can keep living a comfortable life doing what they love. When he is a cook, he is more of an entertainer and host, who tries to please everyone through his food, with the labor of his and his family's work from harvest. When he is in the field, he takes his job feeding the soldiers seriously, but he also takes it as his duty to cheer them up with an indomitable attitude. Likes: (optional)Pancakes, maple syrup, cooking, sleeping, eating, playing in snow, cold weather in general, making people happy and happiness in others.Dislikes: (optional)Self-deprecation, anger, waffles, honey, warm weather or excessive brightness, when people think they are entitled to things without workingCharacter Summary:Maple Sugar was the second generation of the Sugar family to own the Pancake Stable restaurant, and the first member of the family to join the military. His father kept the mantra that any job worth doing is worth doing happily, and that you should impart that happiness to others. Maple Sugar took this to heart, and ensured everyone who enters the Pancake Stable leaves with a smile. He believes his cutie mark means staying alive and well in the face of adversity. He overcame the challenge of what could have been a disastrous harvest by not quitting and letting it happen. His life at home was routine, but something he enjoyed. He was born on the Sugar Grove, as his father affectionately nicknamed the plantation. His sister was born soon after, and while she was smaller than him, could certainly drill a tap in to a tree just as well. His father might as well have been everyone's favorite uncle, in that he welcomed them heartily into the Pancake Stable, as his level headed and down to earth wife offered them a table and showed them the prices. She was the business end of the operation, while he the customer service. Maple Sugar took more to his father's attitude, and could never seem to understand her level headed attitude. Opposites attract, he supposed. His sister was an even mix of the two, and often kept Maple Sugar in check if he got too boisterous or chatty with customers. His blue plaid bandanna most frequently worn around his neck is his prized possession. It was given to him by his grandfather when he visited the restaurant from Stalliongrad. Many times soldiers from the REA would come into the restaurant, sit down, and talk loudly about how terrible the food on the front can be, and praise the mountains of pancakes and hash-browns Maple Sugar would happily serve them. Always one to please, and with a just younger sister he had been training as a cook ready to take his position if the need be, he took what he thought was the higher purpose of making those ponies happy. His biggest problem in the military was his optimistic attitude. Quite often he would be too happy for the soldiers returning weary from a skirmish. As a cook he barely saw battles up close, but he did see the results as the down trodden soldiers returned for food. He made quick friends with pegasi, whom he admired just for the fact that they could fly. Unicorns did not impress him, as he thought they used magic far too much instead of good old fashioned work to get things done. He has an outgoing and willing to please personality, and knows the ropes of customer service. He has handyman knowledge, and if the mood takes him he could one day decide to be an engineer. Maple Sugar is loud and ready to party with anyone, but knows how to tone it down to sincerely make someone feel better if they're feeling blue, as long as he knows the person well enough and truly cares about them more than a friendly customer or comrade. When he is confronted with people who can't be comforted, he becomes troubled and confused, and his spirit can be dampened for a bit. He does not like being alone, and will often tag on to people. Reflection is not his strong suit.
