Character Summary:

History: His mother Breeze and his father Headwind loved their son, and raised him well as both parents and Head of the Clan. Chillwind grew up traveling and fighting as his ancestors had for generations, learning much from a hard life on the road. After the injuring of his father, and the coming of his mark during the battle against the dragons, he arrived at Canterlot with the rest of his tattered Clan. They were received warmly and his father was given the best of medical attention and lodgings for their heroism and sacrifice in warding a city not even their own from harm. The extent of the damage his father had received was so severe that they were laid up there for an entire year, which gave the Clan Elders time to choose him as the next Head of the Clan after it became clear that Headwind would no longer serve, and him time to accidentally trample his future mare Rainsong underhoof. After picking her up and apologizing, the two walked around the city and talked, learning much about one another. A chance meeting hardened into friendship, and friendship became infatuation, and that infatuation became a love pure and true. In the Spring rain that year, he offered her his heart and his life, a chance to be free and unfettered under the stars, and she jumped at the chance. The two grew together and reached maturity, and started what was to become the very large family that they have today.

Cutie Mark: It was in the dead of Winter in a tremendous blizzard when his Clan was passing by Canterlot one night, and just as they were about to set up camp in a nearby cave they had used a few times before, he caught sight of something huge moving along the mountain slopes. Calling out for his fellow warriors to follow him, he flew in closer to investigate, and found no less than five fully gorwn Earth dragons trying to be unobtrusive as they clung to the lower slopes of the mountain range. He and a few others followed, which was no easy task, for due to their icy coloration, they barely stood out despite their immense size. They kept close but out of sight for half and hour before it dawned on them that the dragons were headed toward Canterlot. Being no foals, they quickly debated amongst themselves about the likelihood that the beasts were after the hoards of treasure that were kept within its walls. Whatever the dragon's goals were, they sent out their fastest flier to warn the Royal Guard of the possible threat before taking any other action, and a another to fly back and gather the rest of the Clan's warriors. Chillwind was the Voice of Reason in this debate, and asserted that they should at least confront the dragons before attacking, considering the risks involved. His father, then Head of the Clan, agreed, and went down boldy to do just that. The dragons feigned surprise when told the direction they were headed in, and began to mock-argue with one another about who had gotten them lost. One, revealing himself to be their "elected" leader, roughed them all up until they quieted, and turned to thank Chillwind's father and the other warriors who had joined them. As the villain finished his parting sentence, he came close to the hovering pegasus, and swatted him to the ground before anypony could react. Suddenly, flames were everywhere, steaming the snow and making it impossible to see one's hoof an inch from their muzzle. Many of the warriors that had come with them were knocked unconcious before they could get their bearings. Chillwind was lucky, and managed to fly out in time to see the rest of the Clan's warriors in the distance. With a mighty war whinny, he spun around and around the clouds of mist, funneling them up and away from his intended target. During the dragon's second onslaught, Chillwind confronted the dragon who had tricked his father, and in so doing, received his Mark. Livid with rage at the beast's dishonorable behavior, he struck at the massive creature so rapidly and so forcefully that it could not stop his assault. Those who saw him in the short moments they were not fighting for their lives could see a strange pattern of frost covering his fur and mane, growing thicker as he attacked. It hardened and grew into jointed sheets of jagged ice that fended the claws of his opponent and denied the power of the monster's burning breath. Slowly but surely he backed the dragon onto a ledge, hammering at it anywhere it would feel the hit. The dragon had never felt anything like the rock-hard, ice-sheathed hooves that dug into his scales like talons, and was sorely pressed to keep upright. With a final desperate roar, he turned to flee, and was pushed roughly off the cliff when Chillwind dived into the base of his neck. With their leader humiliated and bruised on the rocks below, the dragons turned their scaly tails and bolted, harassed the entire way by the implacable colt and his companions, until they lost themselves in the mountains.

Since then, Chillwind has practiced daily to acheive the effect his special talent produces, but has been unsuccessful in reaching the strength of that first occurence. Like many of his sons, he influences the air partciles around him, but slows them down and chills the air until water condenses and then freezes around him in sharp, interlocking segments. He has never been able to control their shape, and over time the magic involved has increased in strength to the point where the air around him is naturally chilly unless he focuses on stopping it. The more focus he loses when annoyed or distracted, the colder it gets around him. While it has its inconveniences, this mixed blessing has lent him and edge in many bouts with other ponies, who expect to find bruisable hide with their kicks and meet unyielding ridged ice.

Parents: With both his parents passed on due to old age, it is understandable that his devotion to the family he now has is unflinching and without question. Though they live no more, his love for his mother and father spills into everything he does, and the very way he lives and leads. He swore on the mountain his father was laid to rest within that he would never let them down, and has kept that promise more perfectly than many would have the heart to. He is an upstanding father and a caring spouse, and loves his large family deeply, and, like any father, dotes upon his young daughter Rainsquall with much affection and in some cases overprotection.

Flaws: As he is driven, he can ultimately be too passionate about things, and on occasion is far too stern with his sons when it comes to training them as fighters. He is one of the most stubborn stallons one could ever meet, and while not eager for a fight, he will finish one if it is started, and rarely sees reason in the thick of it, which can have property-damaging consequences.

Okay, I really need to tell you that this application simply goes way above and beyond what we have asked not to do in the way of a non-grimdark based background...between the idea of the dragonslayers and the description of both the parents deaths and the overall 'moment' he received his cutie mark - we've kept this entire board theme as close to the shows theme as we can, and unfortunately this means that as well-written as this is, we simply cannot accept as currently written.

However, we can compromise on how to make this work, and I do hope you'll accomodate my initial suggestions:

1: Given that there are clearly a plethora of other creatures alongside dragons, I believe you could replace Dragonslayer with Monster Hunter/Tamer and have him do it out of a need to protect ponies rather than to kill dragons/creatures...there's simply no nice way around saying it, so here it is, straight: We simply cannot have a straight up dragonslaying-oriented application as we know Dragons CAN co-exist with ponies.

2: Given that the above suggestion pretty much nullifies a lot of what's in play there, I would suggest a rewrite of his history to something distinctly more suited. As I suggested above, you could have your group be a dragon/creature taming society, redeeming and relocating problem creatures and using their collective abilities to drive away the problem wildlife and keep the peace for all involved, without need for killing a thing. their methods can be your own determined ideas, but I would say that killing anything would be a needless idea in a world that has essentially never been portrayed as crazy-violent.

3: I WILL say that the murdered parents line is a little cliche and probably a tad too grimdark...however, I AM willing to let this slide a little if you can find a slightly more creative means on implementing this more as a motivating force behind the character instead of just being another 'straw' to the pile of bad things that has happened to the character.

4: Obviously, I'm not overly sure about the amount of fighting references in the application - as a society, it seems as though Ponies have a much more determined, and much less violent approach to situations. In this case, I refer to the flaws, where you posted the following:

He is one of the most stubborn stallons one could ever meet, and while not eager for a fight, he will finish one if it is started, and rarely sees reason in the thick of it, which can have disastrous consequences.

I would probably offer as an alternative flaw suggestion that you could make him instead more reckless in his endeavours with regards to the direction of a job, and is hotheaded enough to go off on his own or to challenge his groups ideas with his own if he feels his methods would work best...disputing and challenging needn't be about the fighting alone, and as far as the themes of the board go, we try to steer clear of the more excessively 'violent' sides of things.

5: ALTERNATIVELY, You could make this application Crossover, and reapply a new character for the Mane Roleplay section - if you do that, no changes will need to be made and you can RP freely in the Free For All section with the character as-is...this, I feel, would be an easy fix solution if you don't want to backtrack and rewrite everything you have put down here.

I do hope that everything here has shed some light on things, and will allow your application(s) to proceed in a more clear direction - any futher questions you may have, feel free to either PM Myself or one of the many other helpstaff members or alternatively take a little time to scope out the various FAQ's we have here regarding character creation rules, creature guides and other commonly used RP Elements within the Canterlot RP itself! :smirk:
