  1. He was a little surprised. He hadn't been expecting a scholar. He leaped from the basket. Ah, Hello. My name is Ashton Stone. Its, its nice to meet you." He turned his attention to the servants who were bringing Lola's things. Maybe she was nobility? Was Dellios a bodyguard? He wasn't sure. "Canterlot is a bit further than I was planning to go but now that I think about it, it might be fun to see it." "I'm sure it will be." Monty interrupted his head craned upward. "There is a good wind going now, and if we hurry I can take you a few miles out of town before coming back." He turned the valve ands started heating the air. The weight of the occupants, cargo, and ballasts was about equal with the lift."Okay. We're set here. Let me know if you have everything and I'll loose a few ballasts."
  2. Monty took a moment to relax. They were ahead of schedule. Too ahead of schedule. The balloon was practically ready for liftoff and neither of the other two travelers were in sight. He couldn't believe how early that Unicorn had knocked on his door. He had hardly gotten out of bed himself and the pony seemed to have been awake for hours. Getting up early was one thing but this... And he kept asking questions. 'Can I help?' 'Can I see the map again?' 'What were the other Griffins like?' He could hardly think with him around. It was going to be his first time traveling but he was like a hatchling that wouldn't shut up. He idly wondered if all Ponies were like that or maybe just the ones without wings. At least he had a few minutes while Ashton returned home for something he forgot. He took his time checking the ropes and securing the cargo, grateful for this moment of peace and quiet. Ashton trotted back to the balloon completely oblivious to the griffin's ire. Restraining himself from a full sprint. He didn't want to seem to be too eager. Monty seemed busy with checking ropes at the moment so Ashton leaped into the basket and pulled off his saddlebag. He nudged through his bags again. Hopefully the others would show up soon.
  3. ((OoC: I'm setting up a thread in the OoC area to expand on the cities. Mainly I'd like to figure out the population ratios. I kind of get the impression that Rockwington is mostly (80%) Griffin with a small Hippogriff (15%) population and a few ponyfolk(5% mostly unicorn and earth). This is fully open for debate though.))
  4. ((OoC: I don't have a full profile for Monty Golf but I could RP him for a short while. He can't just sell you the balloon though so the dialog might get a little tedious. If you like I could give you the details in a PM and you could decide if your character agrees or not and we could just say that you worked out a deal and move on.))
  5. Monty and Ashton stood on the outskirts of Rockwington as the Griffin's balloon slowly deflated. "I'm sorry, but I can't do that." The griffin repeated to the unicorn as he switched off the burner. "Please? I promise I won't get in the way and I can help to cover any expenses." the pony pleaded with him. "Its not that, I'm just so busy here I won't be able to deliver this balloon until at least next week. You'll have to find some other way." Ashton's ears visibly drooped as he thanked the griffin again and walked away. He really wished he could have left town sooner but what could he do. Unless he wanted to walk to the eastern lands he would have to wait. It was just yesterday that his parents had agreed to let him travel on his own and see the other parts of Equestria. He had managed to pack his things within hours of being told but he still hadn't managed to find a means of leaving. The whole idea of seeing the east was almost overwhelming. He had heard so much about it but he had never actually been there. The furthest he had ever gone was Neighples and even then only a little ways into the marsh. From what he had heard though the greenery of the east made the Neighples marsh look brown. Supposedly they could grow fruit trees in abundance there and some even had flower gardens. He couldn't really imagine that, a few high class griffins had small gardens as part of their estates but he heard that every pony has one out there. Some things were just too much to believe.
  6. He's kind of in that middle range. Older colt or Younger Stallion. It could go either way.
  7. [ Pony Related Character ] Name: Ashton Stone Gender: Male Age: Young Stallion Species: Unicorn Pelt Color: Orange Mane/Tail Color & Style: Charcoal Gray. It starts brushed straight in the mornings but since he doesn't do much to maintain it, it can get a little messy as the day goes on. Eye Color: Purple Cutie Mark: Unpolished Jet (Kind of looks like a rock) Physique: A little slender but not too far from average Residence: His family lives in Rockwington but he is looking for a place to stay in Ponyville. Occupation: Jewler Motivation: Making and caring for Jewlery is satisfying work. Ash takes pride in polishing gems until they shine. Although he sometimes wishes it was a little more exciting. Likes: Polished gems, Soft music, Naps, Baked goods, Warm weather Dislikes: Frigid weather, Sudden surprises, Bitter foods Character Summary:Ashton's family is fairly respected in the west for their skills with jewelery and metals. He has learned many of the skills to be a proficient jeweler but wants to see more of Equestria while honing his craft. His ultimate goal would be to open a shop in Canerlot where he could become regarded as a master jeweler. Stonecutter Family: Ashton's Grandfather, Maxwell Cutter (Unicorn), is a semi renowned craftsman of the western lands. The Raptor Mountain Range makes it difficult to trade with much of Equestria. Many of his goods are sold locally and a large number are actually purchased by the non-pony residents of Talonopolis. In addition to jewelery the Stonecutters also occasionally produce ceremonial armor and weapons. Ashton's ability to produce jewlery is average but he takes longer to do it. He excels at refining already finished pieces, particularly gems. Family: -Grandfather: Maxwell Cutter, Unicorn, semi renowned jeweler in the west. Was an adventurer before he settled down. -Grandmother: Emerald, Unicorn, named for her eyes. Still has an excellent eye for color. -Mother: Elizabeth, Unicorn, Loves to work with metals even more than gemstones. Tends to get lost in her work. -Father: Soft Stone, Earth Pony, searched Equestria for gold before settling down in Rockwington. Tends to manage the shop more than the other members -Older Sister: Pearl, Unicorn, Quite the prodigy. Makes excellent jewelry. Is generally terrible with customers. Friends in Rockwington: Ashton never made many pony friends back home. Any that he did left town within a year or two. He has made a few lasting Griffin and Diamond dog friends he wouldn't trade for all the ponies in Ponyville. -Elaine and Dimitri as the twin siblings of a moderately successful griffin architect in Rockwington. Elane studies hard at the University and enjoys occasionally straying into the sculpture and music classes. Dimitri, who would rather be refered to by his nickname 'Jet', is trying to catch a break in Cloudsdale. - Mido would love to fly off on a grand adventure someday. Currently works in Talonoplois as a guard. -Sienna lives in Raptorclaw Canyon. Has a sixth sense for tunnels and would never dream of leaving them for the surface. -Jill is a thoughtful digger who taught herself to read. She dreams of one day living in Rockwington but can't get used to living above ground.
  8. First I'd like to point out that everything looks amazing so far. I almost feel ashamed to put my own character up in comparison. Maybe I'll polish my own more before submitting it. Second you might want to reformat your submission. I'd hate to see any of this go to waste but there was a fairly clear outline in the Application Form thread. Maybe you can use what you have to fill in the essentials and include this all under 'Character Summary'. Other than that I think I have a few ideas that I can throw into the ring. For one thing, I look at the picture and think, 'that pony would make delicious chocolates'. Maybe its the color scheme or maybe I'm just hungry but I think it offers some interesting ideas revolving around sweets and chocolatiers. For one thing sweets are a pretty posh thing so if you wanted to have your ponies talents (or perhaps just their current fancy) be candy related. Or you could use it for names if you're looking for something androgynous/effeminate names like 'Coco Swirl' or Chocolate Medley' might fit. As for the cutie mark I'd decide on that last during the planing for my own pony it changed from a pickaxe, to a gemstone, and eventually a rock. As for the level of his talents it seems fine though he seems to almost be too acomplished at a young age. Its probably fine but if it were me I would either scale back what he did as a young colt or mention that he got his mark at an later age. Though maybe if he was being assisted in these tasks it might be more understandable. Instruments I'm pretty sure are available though they might be difficult to use or require modification. I'm sure someone of his social class could find a way. I wouldn't worry too much about the family unless they would be exceptionally famous or something. You may want to consider if they're a Earth Pony, Pegasus, or Unicorn. Canterlot is mostly made up of Unicorns though someone who works directly with the court might also live nearby. Alternately you could use Trottingham, its very posh but a far number of the residents are snobs. You can check it out on The Eastern Map. Also don't worry about your character being rounded. Its almost never a bad thing for a character to have a wide variety of interests. I think the thing about Ponies though is they have one exceptional trait that really stands out. They seem to have one word that describes them on the surface. The vibe I'm getting from your pony is 'Poised', as in composed and elegant even when under pressure. All in all I think you have an amazing character and are selling yourself short. It's great that you're open to ideas and I'm sure your character will come out great in the end.
  9. I'll be sure to make a few comments on your profile. I think I might have some ideas.

    New~

Honestly I think a lot of us are like that. I have to psyche myself up whenever I go and get a toy.
  11. Oops. Messed up. Should have read the rules more closely. Also it seems like my old character is getting a lot more support. Maybe I'll use them again. I'm just not comfortable working with more than one character at a time. I get them confused so easily. I guess I'll reboot Ashton and then if it doesn't work out I'll try out my Starcatcher. See you all in two posts I guess.
  12. Its a little complicated. I suppose the character could still work but it kind of seems like Ponies can find gems in perfect shapes already not quite so much need to shape them and fit them. I might make them again. Though I've kind of been thinking of starting fresh with a Lamplighter Earth Pony. Who knows. Though at this point I can't even seem to post in the applications forum. Is it because I'm a very new user or some other reason? I heard that Ashi is really busy. Maybe that forum is temporally closed while they catch up.
  13. Hello. I posted a few times in the other MLPRPG forum but the initial excitement seems to have died down quite a bit and the only thread I was participating in fell apart. Not to mention my Pony idea (Gem-cutter Unicorn) got blasted by canon when 'Dog and Pony Show' came along. I plan on scraping together a new pony here. Not too much else to say other than I'm a fairly new pony fan. I'm pretty sure I started sometime after Winter Wrap up but since then I've been a quiet but enthusiastic fan. I plan on mainly sticking to he RP area but I may drop in on the discussion threads whenever a new episode comes out. Other than that the site looks really nice and I look forward to being a part of it.
