  1. I cannot tell if this is or isn't a terrible idea. LET'S FIND OUT!

Some threads I am or was contemplating joining, and maybe one I'm thinking about starting. Hard to tell sometimes whether or not I should be joining them, i.e. whether or not my character works there, if they're active or inactive and what the means for whether or not I should join, etc.

  2. Not sure what to do with myself at the moment.

  3. I have come to the realization that I'm in a couple threads in which I've completely lost track of the posting order. So, gimme a shout if you're waiting on me to post anywhere.

  4. I feel like my current presence in the WWU thread is, if not necessarily bad, a sign that I should not make a WoE character, or at least that if I do I'll have to be very, VERY careful with how I play them.

Hmm, I guess I was a bit more vague than I meant to be. From a strictly writing quality standpoint I think I'm doing reasonably well, the bigger issue I'm worried about is that my posts felt like they were getting very dark very quickly. For the last few posts, I've felt relieved every time I logged the day after posting and didn't find a PM from an admin warning me about tone, and even though nothing happened the anxiety was getting to me a bit.

I don't think the tone of your posts is particularly dark. They certainly reflect the thoughts of a character who is hiding the way she is. All in all, well done.

(Belated response) Ahh, thanks. I've been worried about my post's tone for a little while now, but maybe I'm worrying over nothing.

  5. Annnnnd I just realized another character said something to mine several posts ago, and I completely overlooked it. Derp. (Sometimes, my name is extra appropriate.)

  6. Disclaimer: gratuitous amounts of headcanon ahead, so this is all speculative and I'm not asking anyone to agree with all of it. Also, incoming wall o' text. My first thought is that outlive is possibly being used in a few different senses here. What I am taking it to mean, for reasons I will discuss below, is that it means none of the mane 6 (and this probably applies to most characters as well) will outlast any of the others over the show's duration. All of them are around at the end, and presumably anything which happens or is implied to happen after the show is finished will be left unaddressed. The reason I think this makes the most sense unless certain events happen (which themselves will be discussed further below) is that even if we assume Twilight's lifespan hasn't been lengthened, by all accounts I expect Spike still would, given that he belongs to a species which hibernates for centuries at a time. So simply assuming Twilight will pass on at about the same time as her friends doesn't really solve anything. As an aside, I do think there are at least two broad types of alicorns, which I refer to as 'greater-' and 'lesser-' as a way to differentiate them. Basically, greater alicorns such as Celestia and Luna have domain over something (the sun and moon, respectively) while lesser alicorns such as Twilight and Cadence, though very powerful and having a particular area of proficiency do not have the same sort of sphere of influence. It's entirely possibly that the two types have different lifespans, though as mentioned above that wouldn't solve everything. My final thought is that it's entirely possible that the whole mane six will become alicorns as the show progresses, which would solve the problem in an inverse manner (they would all have the same life span, just now it would be because all of their lifespans had been augmented). Personally, for some time now I've been operating under the assumption that Twilight was always being groomed for an eventual leadership position, and as the show went on it's seemed to me like the rest of the group had gotten more and more involved in that process. As such, it would not surprise me if the whole mane 6 were eventually ascended into alicorns (though this is by no means certain, either).
  7. Seems I still haven't found a niche yet. So! Time to throw science [characters] at the wall [threads], and see what sticks.

Nah, not nervous. I've just been wondering what to do with myself for the last few days, since the last couple threads I was in fell through.

My approach has been to work on characters while I don't have any active threads, if I can't come up with any threads myself, so that I expand my options as I wait for something to appear.

  9. I'm not convinced it's as bad as it sounds. Yes, Twilight will likely continue to live while the friends of hers that we have come to know will pass on, but the thing is she will make new friends. And they will pass on, and more friendships will be formed, etc. So, to say that all of Twilight's friends will pass on is not to say that she will lose all her friends, and I could easily see the gains making the losses bearable. I have lived through the deaths of several beloved, pet cats. Unless something goes catastrophically wrong, I will live through the death of at least one more, likely several. Maybe I'm being presumptuous in comparing the two cases, but I've found that the companionship provided to me and the good I can do for them generally outweighs the knowledge that I will have to watch their last moments, painful as they may be.
  10. Absolutely, though I'll likely need a few days to scope out the idea and come up with characters. On a side note, if I were to try and start something Skyward-Pirates-esque, would you might if I borrowed some concepts from this one? There would be a number of major changes, but it would be a good starting point. (Might not be for a while, I've got some other projects, but I figure I'll ask now.)
  11. I'm actually kinda glad to hear that Skyward Pirates is over. While I enjoyed, it had started to move rather slowly, and it seemed like a very ambitious project. I don't really want it to end here, but if it is going to be discontinued I prefer getting some kind of official statement in that regard. My one request might be to put this somewhere in the thread itself, just to let people know it isn't continuing.
  12. I have turned cowardice into a tactic. On the battlefield, I'm the guy running away from the enemy, shooting backwards. I should work this into a character somehow...

Pretty simple actually, I just run a different direction. Basically gets me to where I started, only now I'm running from TWO things. :P

  13. Oh dear, I seem to have gotten overly introspective again...

  14. This is getting out of hand. At this rate, within a couple months I will make a post so large it'll practically be its own independent story.

  15. It's a potentially interesting species, and I like how (in my opinion) it seems to match the flavor of the show to a degree. That said, I think there would need to be more of a specific personality and maybe something of a history, vague as they'd be, before it would really function as a character. As it is, this seems more like it describes the general tendencies of the race rather than any one individual. Here you've created a species, rather than a character.
  16. Man, I hate being the last person to say anything for several days, in an otherwise active thread. Did I stun them with my brilliance? Were they shocked into silence by some horrible faux pas I committed? Am I droning on and boring them? Or have they just not had time to either check their computer or that thread in particular? WHO KNOWS?!

Duskfall: The big one at the moment is 'A horror and mystery thread' in the Canterlot Chronicles OOC, though there's also a thread in the creativity forum, and it's happened a few times before now.

Well, for the CC thread, he's still gauging interesting, and ironing things out. I suspect that would take time.

In some ways that seems like the most likely option. My concern is that I may have misinterpreted something as a call for suggestions, and thus can't tell whether or not I made a mistake and disrupted things with my last post.

  17. Working on a new character. I figured I should make a WoE character at some point, and while digging through an old story seed I found a character that might actually work with some modification and some fleshing out.

  18. [irrelevant]After playing several of them, I have come to the conclusion that the FEAR games have actually been comedy games with horror aesthetics this entire time.[/irrelevant]]

  19. Trying to be more active/outgoing is a nerve-wracking experience.

  20. Name: Naj/'Spring Breeze' Gender: Female Age: Young Mare Species: Changeling/'Pegasus' Eye Colour: Solid cyan with white pupils (as typical for drones)/'Cyan' Character Colour: Black carapace/'Maroon coat' Mane/Tail/Other: Indistinguishable from any other changeling drone in her natural form, save for a large scar running down the inside of her right foreleg/'Ragged, Dark blue mane and tail' Physique: Fairly average build, if a little on the small side. Somewhat gaunt for the time being, due to current difficulties with finding regular food. Residence: No permanent residence, currently resides in Ponyville regularly though prone to moving around Occupation: Vagrant/looking for work Cutie Mark: NA/'Blue markings resembling a gust of wind' Unique Traits: Naj is reasonably well versed in unarmed combat and evasion techniques, as well as a little general disguise skills as a result of her initial infiltrator training. However, as the training was incomplete, Naj lacks knowledge and experience and is likely to create a flawed or incomplete disguise or cover story. Her preferred disguise is a red-coated, blue-maned pegasus identity she named 'Spring Breeze' History: Naj began life as most changelings do, deep within the hive. From an early She had a knack for improvisation, which would have found her a place as an infiltrator if not for an unfortunate tendency to be curious. Regarded as a potential risk should she become an infiltrator, Naj was assigned to be a soldier, a role just as important if less interesting and a role she performed without complaint or incident. That was until the attempted invasion of Canterlot, which ended in disaster despite early successes. The aftermath of the attack left the the changeling force scattered and disorganized, with various groups of changelings attempting to regroup without proper guidance. Stranded alongside one such group, Naj took the initiative and attempted to lead them back to the hive. Her attempts resulted in disaster. Her inexperience with command, combined with her natural tendencies resulted in the group taking a number of unnecessary risks. One by one, changelings were were lost to royal guard pursuit or the wilderness, until only Naj remained. She was welcomed as a survivor, until she made her report. It was decided that despite good intentions, Naj was ultimately responsible for those losses. Her punishment would be exile. Essentially disowned by the hive, Naj had a choice between starving, or heading into ‘civilized’ Equestria. After some contemplation, she eventually chose to head in the direction of Ponyville. Based on the stories she’d heard about the place she didn’t really want to end up there, she imagined it would be the best place to avoid the presence and activities of other changelings (funny how that worked out…), and hopes that an isolated drone might pass unnoticed where a larger operation would draw some seriously unwanted attention. Character Summary: Naj’s personality is an unusual mix of friendly and guarded. As a changeling, she makes an effort to be approachable while in disguise, as not actually being an infiltrator it’s the only way Naj knows how to regularly get food. Her natural curiosity applies to the ponies and culture of Equestria as well, and as such she also enjoys the meeting new (and preferably unusual) ponies for it’s own sake. However, being a changeling also causes Naj to avoid talking about herself as much as possible, and even then she only speaks in the vaguest terms. Not only would be an immediate it risk her safety, and the piece of mind of those she generally spends time around these days, but it is a source of personal shame for her. Naj isn’t afraid of fighting, and will readily call on her skills as a former soldier when there’s a threat that can’t just be avoided. However she generally finds it a better idea to avoid fighting where possible, whether by seeming harmless or escaping the situation altogether. As Naj is essentially on her own, and deep within what is potentially hostile territory, even winning an immediate conflict may result in severe consequences shortly down the line. Of course, as she never truly was an infiltrator much of her approach consists of whatever she can come up with on the fly, which can only work for so long. Sooner or later her inexperience will catch up to her, and all of a sudden she’ll find herself in a situation she can’t hide or talk her way out of anymore. Finally, she has a strong sense of loyalty, though at the moment it has no object. As such, she won’t reveal any sensitive information about her former hive, though beyond that she takes her banishment seriously and makes no attempt to actually help them in an effort to avoid inserting herself into their affairs.
  21. I'm not entirely sure what to put here, so here's a bunch of semi-relevant information. I've been roleplaying for a few years now, but it's mostly been pen and paper stuff. I've tried a couple forums in the past, but I was too intimidated to try the larger sites I found, and the smaller ones I tried out both collapsed on me. Aside from that...I dunno, I play a lot of video games. I write fiction as a hobby, though inspiration has been slow to arrive for the past several months. I like philosophy and game design. I'm also very shy most of the time. So, yeah. Hello everyone.
