History:

The oldest son of aetherodynamic engineer Merv Kestrelson, Falco spent his youth in the Aquellian city of Rockwington. As Falco’s father held a prominent position under the employ of the powerful Silverbeak family, the Kestrelsons enjoyed a modest but comfortable lifestyle. Taking delight in how Merv let Falcon try out his experimental contraption designs, the young chick developed an appreciation for advanced technological devices of any sort. His mother, Andi, was a passionate antique collector, and time spent under his mother’s wing taught Falco how to identify valuable collectables and how to obtain great deals for them.

Fiercely loyal to his family, Falco was particularly protective of his younger siblings; his brother Harry and his sister Harriet. However, the young lad also yearned for a life of adventure and excitement; like many griffons, Falco found this life when he grew old enough by enlisting in the Republic of Aquellia Marine Corps. The Corps trained the griffon in the use of a repeating crossbow, a standard ranged weapon used by the Marines. Serving with distinction throughout several rotations, Falco advanced up to the rank of sergeant and was assumed to be destined for a fruitful career in the Corps.

While Sergeant Kestrelson was off in the Marine Corps, his father Merv grew bored with his career in aetherodynamics as he developed a new passion for airships. Hoping for a chance to find a lucrative job either in the manufacture or maintenance of airships, Merv found that the griffon airship industry was experiencing overstaffing issues, especially of enginners of his level, so he looked outside of Aquellia for employment. Discovering that the refuling station in the dingy waypoint settlement of Breakbeak City needed experienced engineers to oversee emergency airship repairs, Merv accepted a job there and moved his family across the border. When Falco's enlistment in the Corps expired, he opted to not accept a reenlistment offer, instead choosing to join his family in Equestria too.

Life on the other side of the Aquellia-Equestria border for Falco was intitially not as comfortable like his chickhood or all that rewarding for the newly ex-sergeant. Falco at first worked in the city’s scrapyard breaking down old airships; in the course of his job though, he’d see that oftentimes the airships were not entirely cleaned out upon their decommissioning. Every so often, Falco stumbled upon a forgotten item worth a good number of bits, so he started selling what he found on the side. All too soon, the griffon realized he was making more money selling off his finds than he was decommissioning airships.

Quitting his job, Falco went into business as a pawn shop owner and offered his family members jobs at Gems & Trinkets. Exploiting Beakbreak City’s strategic location as a nexus for trade between Equestria and Aquellia, Falco successfully attracted a clientele of various ponies and griffons who traveled extensively on business between the two countries. With assistance from Falco's siblings, nieces and nephews, and even his antique-collecting mum, the Gems & Trinkets Pawn Shop became one of the most interesting landmarks one could stumble uponthe industrial city of Breakbeak.

Character Summary:

A happy-go-lucky fellow, Falco enjoys chatting it up with those who pawn their valuables or buy his wares. The ex-sergeant always loves the chance to relate his experiences as an Aquellian Marine, other tales involving him in them, or even jokes. In return, the griffon relishes customers who either have crazy stories of their own or have very interesting antiques to pawn off. Aside from his family and customers, Falco makes his acquaintance with a selection of specialized history and antique experts who provide Falco with valuable insight as to the market worth of select items. Frequently, Falco invites his buddies, consultants, and favorite patrons for drinks and poker after he’s done running the shop for the day.

When manning the counter at Gems & Trinkets, Falco never hesitates to get into haggle matches with his customers. In fact, Falco’s preferred customers are often skilled hagglers themselves. However, excessively stubborn hagglers try his patience on occasion. Generally, if a seller consistently refuses to sell their item for at least 60% of the appraised market price or less, Falco will kick them out of the store in frustration. The pawn shop owner also has zero tolerance for those who persistently refusse to believe that a certain item they’re selling is actually a forgery.

Like many griffons, Falco maintains a strong competitive streak outside of his occupation. For the ex-sergeant, it manifests itself with a love for competitive crossbow target shooting. Falco spends usually at least an hour everyday shooting at objects such as tin cans and glass bottles, and it’s this dedication to this hobby that has helped Falco win a number of crossbow competitions throughout the Equestrian Borderlands and Aquellia. Additionally, the griffon is a frequent sight at poker tournaments throughout the region… although his card-playing skills have won him victory only a couple of times at the most prestigious matches. No matter if he wins or looses however, Falco will invite his fellow competitors to join him for post-round drinks.

As Falco can rely on his relatives to run Gems & Trinkets in his absence, the adventure-seeking griffon makes expeditions into the wilderness every now and then. No longer a Marine sergeant with subordinate griffons to look after, Falco grew bold enough to transverse hazardous terrain and get up close to predatory creatures without any hesitation. Many hijinks and mishaps ensure from these activities, which gives the survivalist-wannabe the thrills he craves in life. Falco’s favorite outdoor locales include the Painted Pinto Desert, Everfree Forest, Badlands, and Soggalong Swamps, and he dreams to one day brave the frozen wastelands of the north.

Despite living on Equestrian soil for a long time now, Falco has not quite 100% fitted in amongst pony-kind. While the griffon knows that various ponies are just as capable of enjoying the great untamed outdoors as much as he does, he has met far too many ponies who either don’t have the guts to trot anywhere away from civilization or claim he's out of his mind seeking out dangerous wildlife. Such naysayers receive only undisguised contempt from the griffon, who can only stand to show them the barest amount of politeness possible.

Falco’s general lack of fear of the wild repeatedly translates into a lack of carefulness, and the griffon has many a time stumbled back to civilization all mangled up from his stunts. Recklessness sometimes seeps into Falco’s normal routine as well, as the pawn shop owner has a bad habit of almost never backing down from any dare or challenge, no matter the possible risk of injuring himself. Finally, while Falco is a relatively easy-going griffon, his grudges against those very few individuals he dislikes tend to be long-lasting and highly personal.

While Falco Kestrelson is not exactly the most sensible of griffons, many agree that Falco is one of the most dependable friends a pony or griffon can have. When not away on a trip or recuperating in a hospital, the griffon takes pride in keeping the Gems & Trinkets Pawn Shop a fun and profitable venture. If one is lucky enough to count Falco as a friend or relative, they can always expect a helpful talon from the griffon.
