Here's Ember Spark. She studies magic and crafts gizmos that can be enchanted, but since she is an Earth Pony, she can't enchant them herself. She has to go around and search for ponies that know the magic she needs, then she has to meticulously study the spell in action which usually means following said pony around for a while. Because of her innate Earth Pony magic, she occasionally helps her subjects to grow in their abilities by inventing new spells that relate to their special talent and new uses for the magic they already have.
