  1. A candle's flame sparkled in Bastion's eyes as he read over Rockefilly's letter. As much as he had prepared himself for the day he would actually go out and work at somepony's residence, he couldn't help but feel an uncontrollable joy. The resounding cheer echoed through his room. His mother knocked on the door moments later to make sure he was okay.

"I'm fine, mother!" He laughed and opened the door for her. "Good news. Sir Rockefilly said he would be glad to have me at his estate." As excited as he was, he contained himself. Acting out of hand wouldn't be appropriate for a steward.

Bastion's mother smiled up at him. There were also tears in her eyes and a pout on her lip. "I'm so happy for you. This also means you're leaving me. Again!" She wailed in the doorway, but her son was more than happy to put a hoof around her.

"Don't grieve, mother. You will see me again." He hugged her tightly. When he attempted to break their embrace, she wouldn't let go.

    "I love you!"

The white stallion smiled at her and back away. "Now, I have to get ready. I want to catch today's one o'clock train. Got to make an impression by arriving early."

Mrs. Bastion wiped her drippy eyes in her handkerchief and nodded at him. "I think you'll make an impression just by showing up. You're quite the stunning young stallion. <sniffle> But I understand, sweetums. Let me contact your father. I'll get my things and then I will walk you to the station."

    ---

The trip to the station was a quiet one. They both exchanged silent, yet weary glances, wondering if the other was going to be alright. "I'll be fine," they both said in unison. Bastion chuckled. "I'd better get my ticket then." It was waiting for him like Rockefilly said it would.

    --

Right on time, the train pulled into the station. Not only that, but Bastion's father was galloping towards them.

The old stallion huffed as he came to a stop before them. "I got here as quickly.. <wheeze>.. as I could." He panted some more before straightening himself up. "I needed to send you off or I wouldn't be able to forgive myself."

Bastion smiled at him. "I'll be back in Manehattan eventually. It's not like you're never going to see me again." His parents gave him one final hug. "See you mother, father." He waved a hoof and tucked his suitcase under his wing. The proud stallion bowed before them and turned to the train. He boarded swifty and found his seat. It was going to be a long couple of hours.

    Name: Witticus "Wick" Bastion

    Sex: Male

    Age: Stallion

    Species: Pegasus

    Pelt Color: White

Mane/Tail Markings Color & Style: Light gray mane/tail kept long, usually worn down unless otherwise instructed to do otherwise.

    Eye Color: Gray

Cutie Mark: An unlit candle in a candle holder.

Wick got his nickname as a young colt. He would help his parents make candles. More specifically, he would cut the wicks. From where they emerged from the wax-- to the tip of the string-- they would all be the exact same length, right down to the millimeter. Even when he grew out of this wick-cutting phase, the name stuck. It was a form of endearment that he would not take away from them. What he didn't know was that even if candle-making wasn't going to be his special talent, it would be closely related.

One frigid night at the candle factory, his parents were working extra hours as demanded of their employer. Worried that something had happened, Wick came to the factory looking for them. There were hundreds of candles lit all over the place. Sure, it was cold, but was it necessary to create a fire hazard? The owner of the facility didn't think so, and accidentally knocked over one of the candles. You can only imagine what happened then. A building of stone and wood engulfed in flames... or that's what would have happened if Wick wasn't there. There was a peculiar twitch in his wings... and somehow, this pegasus knew what he was supposed to do.

A cute mark appeared on his flank as he flew into the air. A strong gust of air manifested with the flap of his wings, and the wind wrapped around the room, capturing the renegade flames in its funnel. As the gust crackled into non-existence, so did the fires and the fears of everyone still inside. That night, he was brought home to a delicious dinner and praise from his family. Since then he has been working on his candle-extinguishing techniques, on smaller and massive scales. It's a fascination that he believes only he can understand. You will often see him blowing out candles, relighting them, and blowing them out again. Rinse and repeat.

    Physique: Stocky

    Origin: Manehattan

    Roleplay Type: Mane RP

Occupation: Unemployed (plans to be hired as a Steward)

Motivation: To provide reliable and spectacular service to ponies everywhere.

Likes: Polished silver, pressed fabrics, freshly printed newspapers, waxed marble, and the overlooked things in life.

Dislikes: Dirt, all kinds of dirt, all forms and species of dirt. Cannot love or tolerate dirt.

Character Summary: Born and raised among lower-class candle-makers in Manehattan, this pegasus has been the apple of his parents’ eyes since he was a young colt. He is often referred to as 'Wick'-- a nickname only used by his friends and family. Although raised alongside an older brother and sister, Wick was always the unspoken ‘favorite’. He would do his daily chores without question-- perfectly-- even going as far as to take on the responsibilities of his siblings so that they wouldn’t have to stress over them. His siblings took advantage of this compulsive behavior, as siblings do, however unbeknownst to their younger brother: he was glad to do things for his family that made them happy. This persistent behavior inspired his parents to save up and send him to a prestigious Butler Academy in Manehattan. They told him that perhaps he would get the chance to live extravagantly among the rich ponies, even if as a steward.

The young colt didn’t understand what his parents meant-- because to him being among his family was living extravagantly. He soon discovered why they chose the Butler Academy like they did. It was a compulsive paradise. The Academy was gorgeous, polished, and it smelled of lavender always. His humble upbringing made him an outcast in this pompous society, but Wick quickly adapted and began going by his first name full-time. He learned to be condescending with his cunning, and his wit became more fine-tuned with each interaction.

A combination of his silver tongue and natural talent brought him to the top of his class fairly quickly. This more or less dismissed the concerns that Wick had grown his mane and tail long: an inappropriate appearance for a servant, who traditionally had trimmed manes. In only a few days time, he will graduate as top butler of his year.

A few rich ponies already have their eyes on hiring him right after he is handed his degree. Who the lucky pony is remains a mystery among them, but so far he has met with several of these potential employers.

Only one of them stood out from the rest. A stubborn and confident stallion named Maximillian Rockefilly Jr. stole the spotlight in Wick’s mind, so to speak. He was taken by the manner in which the pony spoke; he was honest and precise-- a tune that Wick knew very well. A careful deduction of his options led Wick to determine that he would approach Mr. Rockefilly and accept his invitation.

Since his admission into the Academy, he has seen very little of has family, but they write to each other constantly. Leaving the Academy after the many years he lived there is frightening to the pegasus, and this fear is written of often in his letters. He knew that very soon it would be “his chance to swim in an ocean that his family had merely dipped their hooves into.”

  3. The knock on the door jarred the mare slightly, but it excited her all the same. A trot the door confirmed her assumption- it was Quicklime. "Come on in!" She held the door open with her hoof and gave the filly time to get through. "I swear. Every time I see you, you come carrying more and more. Must be quite a hike, Quicklime," she sneezed. "Either way, I'm glad you're here now." The door shut behind them.

"Bring your things to the back and we'll get started," she headed to the back of the small store, pulling aside the vail for Quicklime. "We shouldn't have too many visitors, but if we do I will handle them."

  4. Location: A Remedy to Cure (A medicinal/ointment shop.)

A certain mare was running about her shop in a panic. Twenty minutes of searching hadn't yielded the herb she had been looking for all this time. "Quicklime is going to be here any minute! I have to find it!" Her hooves stopped in front of a tall shelved wall that spanned the entirety of one section of her shop. It was like a library... of herbs and spices. The yellow-pelted pony rolled over a ladder and climbed up to the sixth shelf up and examined the basket labeled "Wizard's Folly" She pulled it out of its cubby with her hoof and was relieved to see the herb there. Then she asked herself why she didn't look there sooner...

Her mindlessness aside, Remedy grabbed a mouthful of the herb and returned to her section at the back of the store, just behind a thin green vail of a curtain that hung in the doorway. She set the Folly aside on a long table that had a bunch of alchemist items aligned in a row: mortar & pestles, calcinators, alembie, retorts, beakers, flasks, and crucibles. You know, the works. A pony could never be too prepared for an experiment. Now all she had to do was wait for her talented apprentice to arrive.

Remedy made her way to the front of the shop, pulling aside the vail with her ear as she passed through. Perhaps she would make sure everything was neatly organize, that all of the containers and bottles were placed where they were supposed to. Things got a bit hectic during the day, and it was in the evening when things slowed down that she had the chance to clean up before going home for the night. Her thoughts wandered back to Quicklime as she rearranged a certain shelf. She looked at the corked bottles in front of her and smiled. 'Plum Shandy' was the first concoction the two herbalist ponies created together. It was a bit of a fluke in the lab, but their creation did what it was supposed to do: act as an pain-number for aching backs.

"How often is it that two ponies born in two different places that share the same talent meet up and live their dream together?"

  5. This is an excellent app!The only thing is according to the show's canon, Appleoosa is only a year or so old. What that means is its fine that she is currently from and lives there but no adult pony could have grown up there. However as I hate to see having any of the app extensively re-writteen because it is so good, I'll provide a map here and a list of other similar drier and/or plains cities.

    • Fillydelphia - Located in the middle of the vast Saddleveil Plains; basically the opposite side of the buffalo roaming lands from Appleoosa.
    • Bareback Gutch - Small settlement in the Roughrider Ridge valley, also western, more mining and trade focused
    • Beakbreak City - Larger town in the Roughrider Ridge valley, more industrial though

Other than this one minor detail I feel this app is pretty top notch and ready to be stamped. :D

I think my app's pefect until someone like you comes along.

Thank you for giving me other cities to consider. I'm thinking about Bareback Gutch. It would make sense since there would be a reliable source of metals to make crafts out of. I have her parents being clock/watch/pocketwatch smiths. Naturally, they would make these (at least pocket watches) out of gold/silver. Unless it's a gemstone mining town? Metals would be somewhere in those mountains too, don't you think? :-| I'll change the app so it has her living in Appleloosa for a while before moving on to Canterlot.

  6. Not sure how to do this... I can't find anything to help me, but how do I give this a Final tag to get this approved?

Just 'edit' the first post in this thread, then click on 'Use Full Editor'. You'll be able to rename the thread title. Just change [WIP] to [Final]. :kissy:

Edit: Probably should have left this one to the mods. :-| Couldn't help myself.

  7. Beautiful application! I'm really impressed ^_^

Its always super-encouraging to see such a well thought-out and well made app; i'm excited to see Remedy in the RP, and look forward to having you on the boards :)

Thank you very much for the inspiring words! I do hope to make myself at home here, if you don't mind. I find it very cozy. :kissy:

  8. Is this the same chat link (obviously not, but) that is in the navigator bar up top? When I click on Chat my browser asks me to install Adobe FlashPlayer, when I already have installed. However, when I click on the link you just gave me (the mibbit one), it works fine. Odd. I'm not willing to download MIRC on this computer (currently at my parent's home), but when I get back to my dorm I will try to access the Canterlot IRC with that. I'm all for getting to know ponies!

"Everything seems good for the moment?" What, am I going to turn into a cereal killer when no one's looking?

... Maybe. Maybe. (No, I'm kidding!)

  9. Seeing as how Tales has told ya all about the rules pages and such, I'mma go ahead and state that there's always the Getting Started section for any further enquiry you might have about how to make applications and how to generally get along with everything that takes place here. Also, Skye runs a RP Masterclass now and then for those who migzht need a little assistance with RP Concepts, so whenever you feel like you need a hand, don't be afraid to ask him about it!

Once I settle in, you won't be able to get rid of me. That's the truth!

Oh, believe me Robikku, the Getting Started section was my biggest friend for an hour or two as I looked over anything. I knew I wanted to finish my character app before I went to bed so I made sure to do as much research as I could on how to set it up.

And an RP Masterclass you say? Hmm. I might ask about it, but I don't think I'm in desperate need of hand-holding. I'd consider myself to be a polished RPer. But if it focuses more on MLP universe I may consider it. I'm not that used to RP within MLP, after all, but I'm good at learning as I go.

  10. I believe the user Bannhammer is currently dealing with the railway system under this thread - if you look around there for a while, and perhaps leave questions and ideas for the users there to discuss, you may actually be able to even help shape the way the train map develops overtime! :3

    Also, little fun fact - Parasprite is actually the postcount status rather than my username - you can call me Robikku, an' I'm here to help as much as I can, alongside the rest of a very capable and dedicated forum staff - if you have any needs not already mentioned, don't even hesitate to ask us the hard questions! ^^;

I will check out the train thread immediately! Thanks for the link! Oh-- and now I feel absolutely silly. See how new I am to this website? I can't even see where everyone's username is!

I see it now though. It's in the bar with the post # in it. Thanks for pointing that out! I'm used to post-count titles being underneath the avatar, not above it. Many thanks, Robikku! And don't worry, if I have any hard questions I'll be sure to shoot you a message. I'm the kind of person who never shies on questions because not-knowing is the absolute WORST! Especially when it comes to RP. Also, thanks for the welcome. :geek:

  11. Thank you very much for your feedback! I wasn't quite sure where her origin should be, but I knew I wanted it to be far away. It may make more sense if she is from Appleloosa. I was considering it but forgot to put it into the final cut! It was a pretty careless mistake. So thank you very much for reminding me, Parasprite! I'd hate to make an un-canon decision because of my general lack of knowledge about the towns. That will change very soon however! *tidies up application*

Edit: I know Appleloosa has a train. I don't suppose anyone knows how far it stretches into the eastern side of the map, if at all?

Edit II: Application updated to say 'Mare' under Age. Her Origin has been changed to 'Appleloosa' and her character summary has been edited to support this new fact. Enjoy!

    Name: Remedia "Remedy"

    Sex: Female

    Age: Mare

    Species: Earth Pony

    Pelt Color: Pale yellow

Mane/Tail Markings Color & Style: Fairy curly light lime green mane and tail. Mane is kept long, tail is trimmed short.

    Eye Color: Brilliant Blue

Cutie Mark: A simple green fern. Fern_Leaf.png

Physique: Average pony build, a bit on the tall side

    Origin: Bareback Gutch

    Roleplay Type: Mane RP

    Occupation: Herbalist/Alchemist

Motivation: To provide the best natural ointments and antidotes for common and rare pony illnesses.

Likes: Nature/wilderness, water/rain, breezes, beautiful scenery, gardens, teas, vegetables, fashion trends (whether or not she can afford them).

Dislikes: Loud noises, hot weather, chocolate, confectioneries, being put under pressure.

Character Summary: Born in Bareback Gutch, Remedy has always been spiteful of the hot, dry air that nestled between the western and eastern mountains that cradle Roughrider Ridge. Not much green grew where she was, except for the cacti that were abundant to that region of Equestria. Needless to say, it was not with the kind of vastness that she had read of in books from her parent's library. From a young age her imagination had gotten her into trouble. She would pretend to travel across the land to brilliant green landscapes faraway, often getting lost in the process.

Her parents forbade her to pursue her dream of crossing the mountains, instead keeping her at home. They were always fearful of not being able to meet their quota for the shipment of goods that went out every so often. Although running away from the oppression of her parents had crossed her mind many a time, she didn't have the heart to leave them to worry. Well into her mare-hood, Remedy was brought up as a tinkerer. Her parents were skilled in clockwork: springs and simple gear contraptions. From them she learned the tools of their trade, though she knew in her heart that this wasn't her path to take. Still, she would examine any plant she could get her hooves on-- cacti, tumble weed, imported flowers-- and take samples back to her room. She would spend hours before bed reading up on botany and the many properties each individual plant harnessed: many plants of which she had never seen with her own eyes. Plants she was positive she never would see. Until her parents approached her one morning.

Concerned for her lack of enthusiasm, and the absence of a cutie mark, her parents reluctantly gave in to their daughter's wish. Years of waiting had finally paid off it seemed. She thanked her parents-- always formally addressing them as Ma'am and Sir-- as they sent her off on a journey to Appleloosa with sufficient funds, food and dress. True, she would miss her home and her friends, but the pain of absence was a risk she had to take. Of this she was certain.

    --

Still unsure of where exactly she wanted to go, Remedy stayed in Appleloosa for a few weeks. When she made up her mind, she bought a train ticket and began her journey east.

    --

A short rail ride landed her a good walk away from the bustling town of Ponyville. Her stay was short, but she managed to find a traveling companion for the long walk to Canterlot. This new unicorn friend of hers, Molli Bay, sympathized with Remedy's story and offered her a room in her home. Both being fairly new Canterlot residents, they bonded quickly. It was a hasty action neither of them regretted.

Remedy's first arrival in Canterlot was everything she ever dreamed of, and more. The air was crisp, cool, and the fragrance of flowers was around every corner. She heard of the libraries in canterlot; something of a dream. It was here she would learn more about her precious plants. Culture-shock aside, Remedy adapted well-- and quickly. She spent her time wisely and took up a job as a receptionist within one of the smaller Canterlot libraries, where she would take on the task of fixing any dysfunctional clock in the building. "Not being able to tell time is a crime," she would say. After work, Molli Bay and Remedy would talk over tea about their histories and experiences.

One beautiful morning, the two planned a pinic in the White-Tail Wood. It wasn't a place for serious worry, but every terrain had its dangers. One uncoordinated step and a pony could be stuck at the bottom of a muddy ditch. Such was the fate of an unfortunate Molli Bay. With all of her strength, Remedy pulled her unicorn friend to safety. Using her knowledge of Equestrian plant-life, she was able to gather select herbs and grind them into a sticky paste between a boulder and her hoof. She applied the paste onto Molli's legs where she had accumulated many scrapes and scratches from her careless tumble down the slippery hillside. Safe but still in pain, Remedy had no choice but to carry the unicorn back to Canterlot, during which she felt a tingle on her flank but paid it no mind.

When the two returned home, both were glad to see that the swelling of Molli's injuries had gone down. What more was the green fern that had plastered itself onto Remedy's flank. Relieved and excited, she went to bed with the biggest grin on her face. What would her parents think, she thought. Would they be proud? A follow-up letter to her parents in Appleloosa resulted in positive feedback, and that they missed her too.

After saving up for what seemed like ages, Remedy finally opened up a shop of her own in Canterlot called 'A Remedy to Cure'. For several years she has been selling/researching natural ointments and antidotes to cure all kinds of illnesses and ailments known among pony-kind. She has resigned from being a receptionist to focus on her new shop. The library is still her favorite place to go in her free-time.

Though their friendship is still strong, Molli and Remedy find themselves too held up in their new careers to see each other at all. Molli has since moved to Hoofington to take up her dream of fishing. Remedy bought out their former residence to retain the memory of the time spent between them.

With Remedy's passion coming into view as of late, she never once regretted leaving the home she left behind so many miles away. She visits her parents every so often, and they gift her with their latest spring-work creations. In return, she gives them ointment and a variety of tonics-- medicine is a luxury that far out west. You can find Remedy's shop decorated with neat little trinkets such as one-of-a-kind pocket watches and wall clocks. So come stop by. A sore throat? A sprained ankle? Remedy has a cure for everypony!

(I hope that's not too long! Ah~! Thank you for reading!)

  13. About myself.: My name is Sam and I'm new here to Canterlot.com. I have come searching for a place to role play peacefully within the MLP universe. I must admit that I find myself very busy with school (and that which comes with it), so if I am gone for a period of time, this is why. I can usually be reached on my IM handles at any time, so feel free to send me a message!

How did you hear about Canterlot.com?: I googled

How did you became a fan of FiM?: Let

My one favourite main cast pony?: Rainbow Dash

More about my fandom favorite: I'm really torn between Rainbow Dash and Rarity. They're both fabulous characters and it is very hard for me to choose one over the other.

    - - - - - And because I messed up:

How did you hear about Canterlot.com?: I googled 'My Little Pony Role Play Boards'. Quite literal!

How did you became a fan of FiM?: I believe I heard about it from an online buddy of mine. He told me about it and got me to watch a few episodes. After the first few I still thought it was too childish for me. After a few more I was getting into it. Past episode 10-- it was the point of no return. I was a fan!

    - - - - -

    Why, hello everyone!

It is a pleasure to meet you all and to have you reading my silly little introduction. It means a lot to me! I suppose I should started talking about myself, huh?

Well, I'll start off with a name. How about that? You can call me by Sam or Remedy. I come from the lovely state of Massachusetts. It's a great place and I love it here. I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else to be honest.

I am an art major at the local university with a concentration in Graphics Design. I must admit that I'm not learning as much about Graphics Design that I wish I was. I'll be taking plenty of classes next semester to fix that problem though!

My ultimate career goal is to be a Concept Artist. I feel like everyone wants to have a job as a CA, so it's going to be very competitive. I will do my best though! With a bit more fine-tuning and some more education in digital painting, I'm sure I will be that much closer to my goal!

In my spare time I draw in my sketchbook and paint in Photoshop-- a lot. I don't come up with many finished products (which seems to be my problem), but I am always sketching; putting my ideas down on paper. You know? I find it hard to put 100% focus into my for-fun drawings because of school. So I wind up forgetting about them and they are eventually banished to the cold recesses of my computer. So the drawings you may see 'completed' by me are usually finished in a little under an hour or two.

I haven't gotten to draw any MLP art, but I plan on getting to it eventually. I fall in-and-out of my fandom phases. I'll drop one and pay attention to another for a while. Eventually one sticks long enough for me to dish out a few dozen completed drawings.

Let's not forget about the main reason I am here: to role play! I love RP, it's one of my favorite past times. I am new here, but I will read the rules thoroughly. Messing up is always the last thing on my to-do list. If you're interested in chatting with me, I love getting messages! You can add me on IM too. Check out my profile for those.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to get to know you all very soon!

    - - - With love and tender hooves,

    - - - - - - - - - Sam
