  1. I go by the name "Fimbulwinter" in the chat. Most of you don't know me, I guess that'll make this easier. I haven't visited the forums for months, and I barely posted when I did, so I guess it's time to make it official: I'll be leaving the Canterlot comunity. There is no point in me staying around if I'm not going to post anything, and I don't interact in the chat either, so it's kinda like if I didn't even existed. Besides, I just don't feel like part of the comunity anymore, and I don't enjoy coming here. It doesn't help that my mind has been going through some troubling moments, making me question a lot of things. Maybe I'll appear in the chat room once in a while, but probably not. I am sure I won't be missed, and my absence won't be noticed, but I thought I'd post it. Bye.
  2. It is almost the same as a MUD. The only difference is that MUDs are coded specifically with traditional RPGs mechanics (combat, economy, skills, etc) and the game masters (or wizards) build the world for you to play in, while a MUSH is more oriented towards role playing and allows the users to build the world, but has less functionality imlemented, though with some effort one can code whatever you'd want, so in a sense you could build a MUD starting from a MUSH, but not the other way around. I hope that explains it.
  3. Canterlot didn't know, that's why I'm posting this. Um... do you mean the Trixie that hasn't connected in almost 2 months? Or maybe there is another Equestrian Dawn?
  4. Hello fillies and gentlecolts. I haven't posted in these forums for months, so it feels kinda weird that my first post since my absence is an advertisement... but I'll try to be around here more to make up for that. I've mentioned this a few times in the chat and I just got permission to post this here. It is a pony MUSH that someone started around two months ago, and I'm now helping as co-admin. For those who don't know, a MUSH is a text based virtual world focused on roleplaying which gives the users the oportunity to help building the world. This means that if you like fancy stuff (like pictures and sound), you won't like this, but it's still a lot of fun. We are just starting and there is a lot left to build, but we have a few players already and some RP going on, and more players means more fun and faster growth. The blog is http://equestriandawn.blogspot.com/ and the ip of the mush is tangent.dune.net port 8789. You'll have to download a MUSH client first. I hope some of you come by and pay us a visit, we're always looking for new friends.
  5. Skye... you beat me to it. I was writing a post along the same lines... I curse you forever
  6. Hey, I found this and thought it would be relevant. Didn't know how to embed so here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEvUd0mCOgQ
  7. Captain Timberflank When Keylime came back with the piles of food, everything else faded from the captain's mind. The succulent dishes looked shinier than any treasure he had seen in his adventuring life. With a huge effort he mantained his composure and tried to eat as slowly as was considered proper, but the hunger was just too much to bare, and the poor captain swooped on the food like there was no tomorrow. So focused was the captain that he barely listened to what Keylime had to say about the place and the decorations. However, when he heard the word ship his face inmediately changed. A deep frown appeared where once was a gleeful expresion, his gaze fixated in a distant point, and he stoped eating (there wasn't much food left anyways). "A ship... I had a ship once. It was the biggest, prettiest, awe inspiring-iest vessel you could ever imagine. "Equestrian Pride" was his name, and he surely lived up to that. Me, my ship and my crew traveled the seas, visiting far away islands, finding new settlements and trading with them, fighting against the raging storms and no less scary creatures. But that life is no more... ". The captain remained silent for a few seconds in a trance like state, before finally snaping out. "Anyways it is a long story, and I guess you don't have time for that. You'd want your plants as soon as posible"
  8. @Zeph: In that same clip, on the 10:28 mark appears the same pony in a full body view, and the cutie mark is clearly noticeable, as well as the other characteristics. I'd say it was a color coincidence. They're different shades also.
  9. Captain Timberflank The captain followed her directions and sat on one of the stools. "Ahhh... a breakfast sounds good right now, thank ye. I can't be picky, just drop in everythin' ye got" he said, as he gazed at the cute hostess while she went into the kitchen. He noticed that the red collar around her neck and the flower she had in her hair gave her a quite exotic appeareance. "By the way, I'm captain Timberflank. I read yer announce and it interested me, so yer hired... I mean I'm hired... I mean I want ye to hire me. I could use the money, not to mention the exercise." The captain looked around the place, trying to think of a conversation topic. "So... this seems like a nice place. Did you build it yerself?
  10. Captain Timberflank It was a misty and eerie morning, nothing could be seen beyond one's snout, but a peculiar sound could be heard: three clops and one knock, the last one more prominent than the others, the secuence repeating itself ever nearer. Suddenly a shadowy figure appears, tall, intimidating, majestic. It could perfectly be a knight, a king, a god blessing the simple peasants with his magnificence. But no; it was and adventurer, a stallion of the sea, a mighty and heroic warrior who has won as many battles as he has fought. A quite handsome specimen too, someone who melts the heart of every mare and filly who is unfortunate enough to lay her eyes upon the master piece that is his body. Then, in a sudden movement he lifts both his front legs, a thunder roars in the distance. Truly an awe inspiring image. Sadly, an image that only existed in the imagination of the emaciated captain Timberflank. Or maybe it was an hallucination caused by the hunger. The poor pony could barely crawl and looked like he had been recently caught by a tornado. The only sentiment it could inspire was pity, if anything. The thunders he heard were caused by his stomach, which hadn't gotten any food in days. Also, it was a sunny morning. - "Confounded traitors, they shall be keelhauled for this!! Of course... when I get a keel in which they can be hauled... But when I do, they will taste my FURY!!" - "GRRRRR" answered his stomach, apparently sharing the same hatred as the captain. - "But first... I shall find some food... anything will do... I'll even eat another pony if I have to... Somepony has to be well fed enough as to last for a week. Maybe if I take off my peg and smack someone in the head I-" Suddenly he stopped murmuring. Something had caught his attention, one single word: "lunch". The captain slowly turned his head to the right and saw an announce. It didn't just say lunch, it was FREE lunch. For LIFE. He started reading the announce from the start. "... dormant mountain... 100 bits...". That was enough for him: adventure, money and free food. He didn't finish reading; completely reinvigorated by these prospects, he stood up and immediately ran down the street, ready to meet this opportunity that fate had laid in front of him. Ten seconds later the captain returned with an annoyed expression to read the announce once again: "Mumblemumble... The Tutti Fruity Cafe! ONWARDS!!!" After half an hour of running in circles and constantly tripping the captain finally reached his destiny. But before he could open the door, he saw his reflection in a window. "Is that really me? I can't introduce myself looking like that! I am, above all, a gentlecolt, and I must cause a good first impression". The captain spent a few more minutes trying to clean himself up and combing his hair. He found a small string laying on the ground, which he used to tie his mane in a ponytail, and proceeded to enter the cafe with a dignified stance.

  16. [ Pony Related Character ] Name: Roger Dumont Of Wondershine (Alias Captain Timberflank) Gender: Male Age: Stallion Species: Earth Pony Pelt Color: Marine blue Mane/Tail Color & Style: Both are of a single dark green hue, always kept tidy with a ponytail (no pun intended). Eye Color: Dark brown Cutie Mark: A nautical telescope Physique: Somewhat on the tall side, generally bulky and well fed, but due to a long time adrift he's lost some weight. Has some scars in his body and an eye patch on his left eye. He lost his right posterior leg in a fight with a sea monster, from flank to hoof, which was replaced by a wooden leg, in which he scratched a drawing resembling his cutie mark to replace his lost mark on that side. He has an elegant and respectable air to him. Residence: a small and shady shack in the southwestern coast of Gallopocus Island (depending on the size of the island, I could make it nearer to the most populated place in the island) Occupation: Jack-of-all-trades, adventurer. Motivation: He works for hire for whoever needs his services, be it as a guide, adventurer, monster hunter, bodyguard or storyteller at kids parties, in order to gather some gold to build a ship, hire a crew and sail the seas again in order to find his stolen ship and exact his revenge on the mutinous crew that tossed him into the sea. His life dream is to die in an epic battle against a monstrous creature and be remembered as a legend. Likes: the sea, the adventures, the booty; loyalty, bravery, honesty. Also a good sense of humor. Dislikes: weak coward pitiful traitorous mutinous scum. Character Summary: Born the heir to a wealthy and respected family in Canterlot, Roger was educated in the most prestigious school, with hopes of turning him into a proper high society pony. Though he never felt excited about the idea, he thought that was his destiny, and he didn't want to argue with his parents. But as time passed by, his parents started to get worried that his cutie mark hadn't appeared. They expected it to be something related with his family lineage: a shiny jewel, a shiny precious metal, anything shiny. One day his parents decided to take him on a cruise to visit a far away land, thinking that the journey would help him find his cutie mark; and they were right. He enjoyed the travel as much as visiting those new exotic places, but the real epiphany ocurred in the return journey, when the ship was caught in a terrible storm. The little Roger, being a weak snobbish pony, didn't had the strength to hold to the rails and fell overboard, and had to be saved by one of the sailors. The adrenaline rush produced by that near death experience made him feel more alive than ever, and he inmediately realised his destiny: adventure. That same night a shiny nautical telescope appeared on his flank. After a few days of recovering and continuing his studies, he convinced his parents to let him travel the seas to meet new places and new people, telling them stories of untold treasures and endless commercial oportunities; he then started his journey to sail around the world. In his travels, Roger befriended the captain of the ship in which he worked as a sailor, learning the office of the sea ponies. After a few years, when the captain was about to die, he gifted Roger with his ship and his crew, trusting that he would be a fair and brave captain, though the crew wasn't as eager, specialy those who had sailed for the longest time. Nevertheless they obeyed, and the new Captain Roger guided them towards new adventures, in which his knowledge acquired in school proved valuable. It is in one of those journeys where the crew met a terrible sea monster, which captain Roger hesitated to attack, instead trying to turn the ship and flee, thinking in the safety of his men. But the creature attacked, and in the battle he lost many men and his right back leg, which had to be replaced by a wooden leg by the ship medic. One of the sailors used this oportunity to speak ill of the captain and convince the rest of the crew that the loss of their comrades was due to Roger's cowardice and lack of experience, and that they shouldn't forgive him. They mutined and tossed him into a small boat, sending him away to meet his fate in the open sea. But fate had other plans for the captain. A few days later he arrived safely (though hungry) to the Gallopocus island, and seeing that luck had smiled upon him, he swore to get his revenge upon the filthy maggots that betrayed him. He'd offer his services for money, to anyone interested, and in time he'd build a base of operations on this island... build a new greater ship, the finest vessel ever witnessed... get the best crew... and sail the seas again, not as the feeble Roger Dumont, but as the feared Cap'n Timberflank, a name that those traitorous bilge rats will hear as a thunder piercing their ears, while they cry to Celestia for the mercy they shall not get from me! ARRR!!! Edit: Oficial pic, courtesy of Haiku

    Body of water?

I'd say... the ocean. I had only been in beaches, which I don't like, but once I did a tour to a frozen lake, and we had to go there by sea and the travel was... amazing. The swaying of the boat, the strong winds, the frozen rain piercing your face like a thousand needles... I think that was one of the best things I've felt in my life. And a few days later we had to travel in a cargo ship... the ship movement was even heavier, those tiny metalic doors, sleeping in really tiny berths with the ship swaying, and the sea outside roaring. It was simply awesome. I think I was simply born for sea. It's a shame I've lived all my life on solid ground.
  19. Hey hey hey! Another Chilean?! What are the odds! Hola there =)
