  1. I would say this is okay... after all, I have my Powerpuff ponies. Just be careful not to get Gary Stu on us.

I love the irony there that the PPG is another of Lauren Faust's works.

Dont worry, I *HATE* Mary Sues/Gary Stus! I try to make mine unique, one of the reasons I add little fact like Dusk Shine's favorite coffee, or Dune's favorite Ice Cream. I wont take the Indy references too far (though Dunes *will* be very talented with his whip), after all I know about Indy outside of pop culture comes from seeing Raiders back in the 90s and reading a couple of the Young Indiana Jones books when I was a teenager.

Remember to mark you character as [WIP] if you need time to work on them. :)

Changed, is this going to be a problem since I already have Hale as "WIP"?

  2. Well, for starters, you can removed [Earth Pony] from the title, as the Earth Pony tag is already there. Also, maybe you could try using the Pony Creator to make a picture of your pony.

Oops, sorry, I missread the rules about titles...

I completely forgot about that, might try it since my last OC drawing had some issues...

It also seems like your Application is a bit bare. Let's see what we can do about fleshing it out!

I was trying to leave out a lot of details for a combination of character development and boring people. I'll see about adding more info.

I think you're a little confused with the desert.

*facehoof* D'oh! Fixed. Thanks, I always mix those two up.

More details on this event would be great! What survival skills were/are those? How did he discover them? What happened with/to him and his sister?

I could write a nice fanfic about that... but in truth I hadn't stopped to really consider it. I'll see about stretching the story out to a page or three, though I may have to make it a full week they're lost instead of just 3 days...

What did Dunes like to do when he was younger? Does/did he have any hobbies? Things he liked to do? What did his parents do for their careers? Are they happy with Dunes talent(s) and his choice of job? What kind of things has Dunes failed or succeeded at, and how did/do those affect his life?

I was trying to avoid much talk about his family since I was told that RP characters could have any form of relationships, though I can certainly add those.

His talent is very flexible so that I am happy with (though it will be... amusing... to put him in a place like Canterlot or even Ponyville (good settings for a "country mouse" RP story) where his skills are all-but useless (unless I expand the Indiana Jones reference and make him a full-blown Archaeologist as his main job when he's not helping other ponies out... hummmm I like that idea... I might just have to see if I can find a bull whip laying around ;) ).

I never really considered what his hobbies might be... living in the Desert there's not a lot of options, though I suppose I could be creative like training vultures to carry mail or something...or play up the 'old west' and have him do Lasso tricks (or whip tricks...)

Would it be a problem to extrapolate on the Indy gag? I mean it's not uncommon to see thinly-veiled expies in the actual series *coughDiscordIsQcough*

Remember that all anypony knows about your character is what's in your Application. More details are always better.

Meh, I may have to adjust my style, I'm quite fond of RP intros being along the lines of "a cloaked pony appears, who is this mysterious equine?" so I leave out a lot of information that others wouldn't have if they just saw him. As I said, I'll see about fleshing it out a bit.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for the feedback! :D

  3. Goodbye diamond sword, axe, hoe, enchanted shovel, diamond pickaxe, 60 arrows, my bow, a dozen blocks of iron, a whole lot of clay, coal, map, clock, compass, feathers, my leather... Everything. LOL.. Such a massive blow it'll keep me off the game for many days as I don't know how to recover.

Pfft, If you need your equipment replaced just ask! I have plenty diamonds for pinkie ;) and oh sweet celestia, I have TONS of redstone and gold to make a new compass for you... in fact the only things I cant help you with are the arrows and feathers (I'm constantly running out of those myself) and the clay (though there is plenty clay near my cave so I wouldn't mind helping mine more for you.

  4. Yea. I'm thinknig about leaning more western cartoonish maybe as time goes on. I like out the picture came out but it looks kind of dramatically gritty and sort of depressing. Like their stuck in a dark basement and trying to use the internet to call for help.

You certainly achieved the desired effect. And hey, you could even explaine it away in-universe if you like as the webcam being dirty!

    Do it.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm torn between 'ask discord' and 'Ask Dash the Rainbow Alchemist' (the latter being either based on Dash/MC or Dash/FMA...)

  5. RoleplayType: Mane RP

    Name: Hale

    Sex: Female

    Age: Young Mare

    Species: Pegasus

    EyeColor: Green

    CoatColor: Blue

Mane/Tail/MarkingsColor&Style: Navy Blue with light grey-purple highlights, her mane is spikey and less than well-kept but her tail is carefully styled into a series is spikes

Physique: Big, Strong, though graceful (If she were human I'd say "Muscular but still curvy")

CutieMark: Snow Flake with a hailstone between each point

    Origin/Residence: Cloudsdale

Occupation: Weatherpony, Specializing in Hail and Sleet.

Motivation: Day to day life, find a stallion who will respect her as more than a 'pretty flank' or 'mare who could kick my plot'

    Likes:Winter, snow, Hot cocoa

    Dislikes:summer, rain, Rose Bushes...

    CharacterSummary:

Hale was born in cloudsdale where she attended flight-school and despite graduating 3rd in her class ultimately, her first years were... less than stellar. She was known to crash into clouds often, and when she did, without even realizing it, she made the clouds release sleet. (Though everyone assumed it was simple cloud-fluff) Her best friend's mother loved rose bushes, and unfortunately for Hale, these bushes were very close to the front gate. Hale spent the better part of every afternoon licking her wounds, quite literally, from crashing into them... She spent a lot of her time around the rain ponds in cloudsdale park, where she took joy in fishing around the water until she found a sphere of ice, despite how warm the pools were...

Hale learned her special talents when she finally got sick and tired of the bullying. Despite the taboo of using your weather magic as a weapon, Hale had taken all the tormenting she could and pelted the bullies with hail and sleet in rage, it was not until afterwards that she realized what she had done. It was then that all the times in her past when she crashed and found the flakes of ice nearby, or the times she was admiring the 'bubbles' she found in the water pools, that she realized she had been creating these without knowing it. It was then that she earned her cutie mark and learned her place in society. (Both as an ice-weather specialist and as 'the mare who will kick your plot if you make her mad')

As Hale got older she found out that, despite the weather service paying well, it only payed when you worked. While Hale could still move clouds like any other Pegasus, she tended to cause them to ice over accidentally, and so rarely was called for work except when they needed sleet or hail. These were her specialty, she could land a hailstone anyplace she wanted, with any force, enough to gently roll off a flower, or to leave a dent in a barn roof... But, her lack of work meant she had to take odd jobs around town to make ends meet, often traveling to distant cities when nobody around town had anything that needed doing...

  6. Roleplay Type: Mane RP

    Name: Dunes

    Sex: Male

    Age: Stallion

    Species: Earth Pony

    Eye Color: yellow

    Coat Color: light brown

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: dark brown with light brown highlights

    Physique: above-average muscle-mass

Cutie Mark: 3 sand dunes arranged in a C-like pattern

    Origin/Residence: Painted Pinto Desert

Occupation: Survivalist/tour guide/helps find new sources of food/water/etc, Archaeologist.

Motivation: Survival, helping those who don't have the skills at survival he does

Likes: cool breezes, vanilla ice-cream with chocolate sprinkles

    Dislikes: the desert

    Character Summary:

Dunes hails from the southern desert where he helps the locals with finding new sources of food and water, he also acts as a tour guide and rescue-pony for anyone lost in the desert. Thanks to his skills, he is able to survive for as long as he needs, supplies or no. Despite having so many responsibilities, Dunes finds that they are rarely called for, so he spends most of his time pursuing his other love - Archaeology. While some will argue his actual primary profession is more of a "grave robber" since he is known to bring back Relics from ancient equestrian settlements, tombs, and temples which he usually donates the local museum where his sister is curator (though he has his own private collection that is none too small) Few know the extent of Dune's adventures, as he prefers to work alone, his skills at detecting and avoiding traps (or quickly finding ways to survive one once it's sprung) have lead others to think it's too dangerous to accompany him, which he finds himself agreeing with them upon.

When dunes was a young colt, his family was traveling in a sandstorm, he and his little sister got separated from their parents. It was a traumatizing experience for the young filly, but Dunes found he had an uncanny knack for finding shelter, reasoning out which plants were edible, and even knowing when there was danger nearby (usually in the form of a scorpion). During this time he managed to provide them both with meager, but adequate food and water and even nurse his sister back from the brink of a heatstroke. After three days, the adults were sure their children had met an early demise, but were shocked to see the two, dirty but alive, trotting into town after spending so long in the desert along. After learning about his inane survival skills and helping to save his sister, Dunes learned his place in society and earned his cutie mark.

Dunes is usually seen wearing a white cape to keep the sun off his back, either with the hood pulled up or with a similar fedora. Dangling from his belt is a well-worn and well-kept brown bullwhip, that Dunes feels extremely close to, as if it were an extension of his own body. Some ponies have joked that one of the sand-dunes on his cutie mark is really a poorly visualized bullwhip. However, as good as he is with it, the talent has come from years of practice. To this day he is known to spend an hour every morning practicing with it atop his home, which many of the locals use as an alarm clock since the series of loud CRACKs can be heard echoing across the town every morning.

    Image from Pony Creator:

    Dunes_PC.jpg

(not thrilled with it since it leaves off his fedora and the cape seems a bit small, not to mention he turned out a bit more orange than I liked... but better than nothing...)

I'm placing this here in case I feel like trying to edit him later

  7. Personally, I'm a fan of the "they passed on" theory. It makes a lot more sence than them just traveling (i.e. why they've not been mentioned even in passing a single time) I would actually like to see death addressed in-series, but as Faust herself said, such topics are not likely to be approved. (FWIW this is the theory all my stories follow too, and what I personally suggest to anyone who asks me - unfortunately they're dead before AB was old enough to even remember them)

  8. Also, there was a My Little Pony panel. During the middle of it, Discord (cosplayer) walked in. All the ponies doing the panel saw him (everyone else was facing them), and they yelled "DISCORD!" Everypony else in the room turned around and yelled at him as well, and Discord replied in his trollish voice, "Hello everypony!"

LOL! I gotta see this! I'm sure it's on youtube by now! ;)

  9. Just wondering, is everyone (or mostly everyone) here have a username based on a personal OC? Because I have an OC, but my username is in no way related.

Well, not a pony, but yes, "Ashton" is an OC of mine from another genre that I was using so much on so many sites that I just adopted it as my full internet name (Yes, there are 3 parts to it, no I'm not telling what they all are because I just know you'll all run to Google! ;) ) On the other paw, I do have one string of names, mostly related to google or random stuff I dont care if ties into my 'net "life" that is NOT and OC and it just two Japanese words (I'm also a light otaku). Though over all most of my stuff is 'Ashton' or some variant of it (and yes, if anyone's curious, I will answer to that name IRL, actually prefer it to my real name...)

  10. And they're not constantly changing form just to be better than everypony else. Nobody likes a Trixie.

Actually if the OP wanted to be more of an antagonist (or have their pony "learn a lesson") I could see them pulling a Trixie and it working very well

  11. RPing combines reading and writing, because even if your leading the story, you never know where the other players are going to go. You can sometimes force them your direction (called 'railroading') but there is a lot of mixed control going on, and soemtimes things just dont go your way (especially since in a forum environmeny, as opposed to, say, DND, you cant *force* a skill-check)

On the other hand, these hops off the rails can be awesome, funny, touching, etc. I've had one or two RPs that were so powerful I actually found myself crying.

Personally I love to RP, more than to write at times, but you need to really care about the characters to RP them properly, and tbh, if your just a casual fan, you might want to try another Genre (please do not take offence at this! I just feel you need to REALLY REALLY REALLY care about your character and his/her home/world/etc to really have a fufilling experience and to give the best experience to those your RPing with - just like any game or sport, if you only half-arse play nobody will have fun)

  12. I'm not staff, but imo based off what I've seen elsewhere, *if* it's allowed, you would only be allowed to use it on other characters if their player agrees. Unfortunately this is not DND where you can force a will-save, so if they dont want you to do it your Trot-outa-luck (Though in such case you can still *try* to use it and have it fail spectacularly)

Again, this is based off other forum RPs, the rules might be different here, this is just my interpretation...

  13. I've been saying since I joined the herd that there should be the collector-grade toys. (I'm hoping and praying for a nice resin statue of Dash performing her Sonic Rainboom) I'd also like to see them branch out into some video games (I'm still saying it's an OBVIOUS choice to make a "rainbow dash cloud racers" or something) and perhaps other places. Some other merch would be nice, like I've seen brony-made shotglasses with the ponies and their marks, I've seen car decals + Air fresheners (I wonder what Rainbow Dash smells like...), I've seen practically everything imaginable --- all brony made (which makes me wonder if hasbro is activly trying not to "step on the artists' toes" and let the keep making their unofficial merch... considering most of what I see hasbro making is dissimilar to the unoficial merch I'm curious...)

I honestly dont think they need to make radical sweeping changes to the show. I wouldnt mind it being a hair less anvelicious but I dont want another The Simpsons/king of the hill/family guy/etc with ponies. If we want to continue this idea though, I'd say spin off the CMC as their own series, dedicated more towards kids (example: Winnie the Pooh), and make the main show more adventure oriented (example: Gargoyles) That would not only give them 2x as many opportunities to make toys (they could have a complete 'adult cast' set and a complete 'kids cast' set) and if they were careful with the 'adult' series it would also interest some of the kids still.

But as I said, I think messing too much with the show would ruin it's appeal. Part of what I love about it is that it *IS* light-hearted with a nice salting of snark from the characters (that is, the characters are more cynical and realistic, even if the show itself is more idealistic) Though I would like to see more 2-parters with a larger plot like the premiers. (And I like Derpy as she is - a nice little "wheres waldo" sight gag, I wouldn't mind her get getting a line here or there, but honestly, making her one of the mane 6? no. just, no.)

  14. A Discord toy would be awesome, as would a Nightmare Moon.

Also would love to see Trixie and especially Gilda. :)

Show accurate Mane 6 are the most important thing though, I think. ;-)

I saw a (brony-made) Discord on ED one day, it was awesome, It made me really want to see an official toy. I dont care what other say, I think a plush discord is cute and huggable!

I'd swear threre was a Trixie made... though I might be wrong, it could have been a custom I saw...

There *are* show-accurage mane-6 (I have a set I'm watching!) They're sold at Toys-R-Us and apparently Big Lots, as per the pics that Tales posted a while back somewhere on the site...

  15. I just wanted to put forth this idea a few friends and I came up with.

"Everybody" vs "Everypony" - the form "Everypony" is the PC (politically correct) term, but a lot of people arent very PC or just dont care and say "Everybody" Just like even today we still hear/say "Blacks" instead of "African Americans" quite often in the USA, even in places where technically we should be more PC.

    As for the original topic...

I can understand, I came into the fandom as an obcession (as I do with every fandom) and it's slowly wearing off. I'm not spending all my time thinking about ponies now, I'm starting to want to listen to non-brony music, and I'm not spending every minute of free time reading Fanfics.

    But

I am still looking forward to the latest episode (hvant seen it yet, I wont have a 'block' of time untill late tonight), I'm still writing on ym fanfics and reading on one or two (and I certainly havn't deleted me "to read" list), and I'm still eagerly awaiting and plan to wear my Pony Tshirts and messenger bag. (Not to mention I'm wanting to do some Pony RP on here if I can ever figure out what kind of character I have to make to get accepted >.<)

In short, I came in at a peak and now I'm leveling out. I'll still go up and down, excited and obcessive one day and barely still a fan the next. I do fear this summer what will happen.

On the other paw, I was also simiarly deep in the old Sonic Fandom, and I continued to love the fan-works long after the SatAM series ended (and I had no access to comics, all I had was the 'net and fan material) I kept that going for over a decade before the fandom finally got to the point I completely lost interest (canon plot changed too radically for my taste and all the fans followed suit) I can easily see the same thing happening with the FiM fandom. (And lets not forget how many fans there still are of the original StarTrek, despite the series having ended decades ago it's still a focalpoint of geek culture)

Even if Hasbro decided to do something foolish, such as cancel S3 and create a G5 series that returned to the 'mindless commercial' mindset, I think the bronies would simply declare 'Death of the Author' and continue to crank out material based on FiM for quite some time. (and I dont *think* hasbro is that stupid, they know they have a great potential of $$$ here if they can find the right balance...)

  16. I'm not getting into the argument, I'm just going to respond to the OP.

The reason I love RP is that, to an extent, I have no idea where the story will go! When I write a story, for the most part I know what's going to happen, when it's going to happen, and how it's going to happen. But in an RP there are all kinds of things thrown in that you don't expect, sometimes people behave in unpredictable ways. If your the one in charge of the plot, it makes you have to think on your feet and figure out exactly how to handle the new issue, and if your one of the players, it means you get to wait and see how the GM handles the issue (or how the other players handle it if there is no over-all plot and it's mostly one bit free-for-all) It makes a story interactive like a video game, but on a whole new level because your not confined by the limits of the game engine. You don't like that wall there? Fly over it! that pit of spikes? use the rope to lower yourself down then break off all the spikes! It's a wide-open world! The best of reading AND writing a story, you have some control but your still surprised over and over again.

Granted this doesn't *always* happen, but that is what the goal is. Even if the end of the RP is obvious, it's a case of "getting there is half the fun!"

  17. Roleplay Type: Crossover

    Name: Scootaroll

    Sex: Male

    Age: Colt

    Species: Pegasus

    Eye Color: Grey

    Coat Color: Orange

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: light Purple with dark purple highlights, sometimes with rainbows striped in (when he can harass Elusive into doing it)

    Physique: Small, atheletic

Cutie Mark: None, actively (obcessivly) looking for it

    Origin/Residence: Alternate-Universe Ponyville

    Occupation: Student

Motivation: To one day be as awesome as Rainbow Blitz, To Join the Wonderbolts, and To discover his Cutie Mark.

Likes: Rainbow Blitz, The Wonderbolts, Rainbow Blitz, Riding his scooter, Rainbow Blitz, sappy romances, Rainbow Blitz and did I mention Rainbow Blitz?

Dislikes: Being a 'Blank Flank', being a poor flier.

Character Summary: The cosmos itself is infinite, but beyond this there are an infinite number of 'alternate realities' where things can go from 'normal' to bizarre. In one of these realities lives Scootaroll, the cross-gender Quantum Clone of Scootaloo. Like Scootaloo, he enjoys speed and daring stunts, as well as his universe's Rainbow Dash, Rainbow Blitz. Unlike Scootaloo, however, he is quite fussy about his (and others) appearances and his interest in Rainbow Blitz might be a little more than casual idol worship. If pressed Scootaroll will even admit he finds Blitz Attractive, even "Hot". Also unlike his female version, Scootaroll takes every costuming oppertunity to dress up as Rainbow Blitz, and usually refuses to remove the rainbows from his mane and tail untill they start to fade (and once he secretly kept dying them back in so they would last longer). He also is very fussy about his appearance, even though his mane might look spikey and unkept he spends close to an hour every morning styling it *perfectly* and his longer-than-the-average-male-pony tail is silkier and softer than most fillies' tails.

Scootaroll is always looking for his cutie mark, feeling empty and ostracized from his peers without it, but he also dedicates a disproportionate amount of time to watching (read "stalking") his idol, Rainbow Blitz. He secretly hopes that when his mark appears it will be similar to Blitz's mark (even if his suspected talents are completely different to the rainbow stallion's) He also aspires to one day join the Wonderbolts, possibly under the assumption that his Idol Blitz will by then also be a Wonderbolt...

  18. Roleplay Type: Crossover

    Name: Dusk Shine

    Sex: Male

    Age: 17ish

    Species: Unicorn Pony

    Eye Color: Dark Purple

    Coat Color: Light Purple

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Dark Purple, almost blue, with lighter purple highlight (shoter male version of Twilight)

    Physique: Average

Cutie Mark: One large red star surrounded by smaller white stars

    Origin/Residence: Alternate-universe Ponyville

    Occupation: Heir/pupil to Prince Solaris

Motivation: Learn magic, help his friends, protect equestria

Likes: Magic, Studying, Double-espresso Peppermint Coffee with 3 cream, 7 sugar, and (amusingly) a large marshmallow in the center...

Dislikes: Socializing (at least with those he's not familiar with), Braggarts, Sleepiness, silverfish dining upon his books.

Character Summary: From the fanfic "On a Cross and an Arrow" Dusk Shine is the Opposite-Gender Quantum Clone of Twilight Sparkle, he shares most of her characterization, including his love of magic and his friends as well as his undieing respect for Prince Solaris, his OCD and his intense love of studying. Unlike Twilight, though, he is slightly more assertive and outgoing, though still a social misfit. He also seems to suffer from a mild case of Attention Deficit Disorder at times and is easily distracted, which is one of the prime reasons that his magic has failed time and time again even on some of the simplest of spells...

Dusk Shine is one of the post powerful unicorns in equestria... if he can just master his powers. He's been under the tutalidge of Prince Solaris himself since he was a young colt, and has shown his potential many times over. Because of this he suffers through rigerous study and training to hone his skills and one day live up to the dreams his mentor has for him (though Dusk is completely oblivious to the full extent of his potential future) Unfortunately, all this studying has made him rather... awkward... when he socializes with other ponies not always taking into consideration their feelings and coming off as snarky or outright rude even when he has their best interests at heart.

Dusk Shine grew up in the capital of Canterlot, spending most of his time doing magical research. After being accepted into Prince Solaris' Academy for Gifted Unicorns, He continued to study and also, having a direct link now with the Prince, felt the urge to warn him of possible danger. Many disasters were averted thanks to Dusk's eye to detail and keen analitical mind. Most recently he became aware of the date prophecizing the return of the evil Stallion Anarchy Apollo and as usual reported this to Solaris. The Prince, much to Dusk's surprise, did not seem very concerned. However, due to his nack for organization and organization, he was sent to oversee the prepreation for the summer sun celebration with his assistant, Barbra the dragonling, by Prince Artemis. Once there he met the event organizers AppleJack, Rainbow Blitz, Elusive, and Butterscotch, as well as the hyperactive and slightly insane Bubble Berry. However, once the celebration started, it was discovered that, as Dusk had suspected, Anarchy Apollo had escaped from his imprisonment on the moon and kidnapped Prince Solaris. With his newfound friends Dusk recovered the Elements of HArmony from the Castle of the Pony Brothers and defeated Apollo, freeing Solaris and revealing Apollo's true form of Prince Artemis. Following this adventure he requested to transfer his studies to Ponyville so he could remain with his new friends and has since been learning the magic of friendship and sending weekly reports to Prince Solaris on his findings.
