  1. I don't think that implies a reference. A reference is a tip of the hat to something or a subtle nudge and a wink regarding something. Unless we're going to say every time that sequence of events happen it is a reference to the speech, which would be a little silly, I don't see it. I think perhaps it's people searching for references. I mean, I know more than a few people who believe that Owl's Well That Ends Well contains a moment that is a reference to Bush on 9/11 and they make just as convincing a case, but it simply isn't.XD

I am going to repost them side by side so that I can compare them better:

Today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.
Today, I consider myself the luckiest pony in Equestria.

The first 6 words are verbatim, including the most important word in the speech. The rest of the words were modified for the setting. There is no stretch here. This is clearly an homage to Lou. Those words are so famous, that you cannot use them without it referencing Lou. Is your argument that it isn't subtle enough?

  2. So...I am still a little bitter about the alicorn Twilight being given away, but I just got to watch it with four other people who had not heard the news, and I was watching their reaction very carefully so I could experience the shock and wonder vicariously.

Just as the purple swills started surrounding her, the 5 year old boy predicted: "she's gonna get wings".

The other 3 were appropriately surprised and thrilled by the experience though. Afterwards, I asked how he knew, and he couldn't explain. It had just been a guess!

  4. Care to explain?

the following is Lou Gehrig's farewell address. Skip to about 1:05 and listen for 20 seconds:

The reason the line "I consider myself the luckiest man on earth" is crazy is because his health was in a terrible decline that had robbed him of his favorite past time, and doctors were powerless to help him.

But none of this matters. Nothing matters until Ginger Mint.

LOL. I am eagerly anticipating her comments as well.

  5. Twilights cutie mark: Purple star surrounded by five white stars

Twilicorn transformation and cutie mark (split second seen, implied from shape when top covered by wings*): Purple star surrounded by six white stars.

*Twilight mark has one star at "5 o'clock", Twilicorn has two and if you look it hasn't been reversed.

    What time in the episode?

I see only the normal cutie mark after the transformation.

  6. Lets get too complaints out of the way first:

    1) I knew she was going to get wings. I try so hard to avoid spoilers, and I got the news from not less than 6 different sources unsolicited and inappropriately. I'm a little bitter about this.

    2) The dresses at the end were substandard.

    Otherwise:

    WOW!

You guys have already had many great observations, so I will try to add a unique perspective...

    • Pinkie's take-a-drink-so-she-could-do-a-spit-take killed me!
    • The animals cooking rainbow dash into stew was sooooooooooooooo cute!
    • My worldview has room for ponies that are all three types of ponies or only two types. I haven't decided what Twilight is yet.
    • magic MUST rhyme to work right? Interesting tid-bit
    • I am glad Twilight's proportions didn't change. I was afraid that she was going to get taller.
    • Tons of great effects, from the eyes rolling memories, to Celestia's special Celestial hall of memories...
    • Celestia had a few lines that MADE the episode for me. Upon becoming an Alicorn, Twilight's first thought was to ask Celestia if she was going to lose her mentor. The response was twofold: 1) she wasn't losing her relationship with Celestia but 2) it was changing in a new and special way. If that was the only thing that happened in the entire episode, I would have loved it.

  7. Duh, in Spain Nothing is English....

You are living in Spain? Does that detract from your viewing pleasure?

Typical movies are in the language of the viewer, rather than in a (nearly) dead language. Typical movies are NOT 4 hours long. Watching "dances with wolves" is mentally exhausting. Even though I own it, as it was cheaper to buy than to rent, I will probably never watch it again.

It seems that my description of the movie is heavy on the "why not to watch it again" and light on the "why you should watch it once".

    Therefore:

Note that it won 7 academy awards including best picture. It is a beautiful film full of emotion, including poignant moments that stun you. The character change in Dunbar is radical AND believable/natural. The ending is appropriately bittersweet. You are taken on a deep journey, and it could very well change the way you think about moments in American history.

  8. Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet was... okayish, but it was cringeworthy too. The original dialogue does NOT fit into the modern world. At all! And giving the firearms the names of sharp instruments - stupid, but to be fair a unique gimmick.

I couldn't finish that one even once. But I did like the gimmick.

I'll add "dances with wolves" to the list. It is a fine movie with many redeeming features, but the pacing is slow and it is LONG. The pacing and length make sense with the story, since his integration into the tribe is based on incremental trust. By the time he gets back to the military outpost, you have forgotten about it! A second viewing would be hard because not only do you have to invest a great deal of time, you also must invest your mind fully because lots of it isn't English!

  9. Beautiful mind is almost one of mine as well. I did leave the theater just a little disappointed though, and no one who plays go should watch it. That part was painful.

For "sixth sense", I watched it twice back-to-back because I wanted to see all the stuff I missed because I didn't realize REDACTED the first time through.
