1. Heya! Welcome to Canterlot! :) Pretty much everyone around here loves RP so you should fit right in! :)

Oh then I have to make a post about Fleur, or an OC and then someone would approve it, right?

Something like that. ;) There are a lot of rules and guidelines regarding cast apps, though, so reading this page, this page aaaand this page should point you in the right direction. :)

“See wot I mean then, Stormwing?” Latte said with a smile, “Never Quiet for long ‘round ‘ere.”

Now Vanilla Latte knew Trottingham better than she knew her two hooves, and she liked to think she knew all the ponies around these parts. Oh, it wasn’t a small town by any means; truth be told, it was a rather bustling resort town and some might even call it the big city. But that didn’t mean that the locals didn’t have a sense of community about them – quite the opposite. When half of your town’s population doesn’t actually live there, you have to get to know the ones that do if you want there to be any sort of stability in your life. That was her theory, anyways.

The blue earth pony with the pink mane struck a chord of familiarity somewhere. She wasn’t a regular – not like Stormwing whose daily schedule, sporadic though it was, she more or less had memorized. Latte couldn’t even tell if she was a local. She did have a rather – distinctive accent. But Vanilla Latte could’ve sworn she’d seen this pony on a previous occasion. An old school acquaintance, maybe?

Before she’d had the chance to even greet the newcomer, the mare inquired as to whether or not she could sit at Stormwing’s table. Shame on you, Latte, she thought to herself, not greeting a customer first thing on the uptake.

"Forgive me my insolence, but mind if I take a seat?"

Stormwing smiled warmly at the mare who had just entered the shop. Well, wasn’t he a lucky stallion? A beautiful mare with a sweet accent and wide eyes was asking to share a table with him? She was probably just another tourist passing through, but he wasn’t about to be fussy about minor details like that. “Not at all. Please, sit down. Name’s Stormwing – what’s yours?” he answered, probably a bit too eagerly.

"Um Excuse me madam? But would you like to sit..um..here? I don't really like to sit alone you see..and I um.."

“Wot’s’matter, then Doctor?” asked Vanilla Latte, pleased that she remembered this pony at the very least. “Cat got your tongue? Go on, ‘ave a seat wherever you like! I’m sure Stormwing an’ this lovely lady ‘here won’t mind ‘t’all if you take a seat with them. ‘S’good to see you in ‘ere – don’t think I’ve ever seen you in my little corner ‘o Trottingham ‘afore. Welcome! Oh, an’ jes’ so ye know, the little ‘un’s flu’s cleared right up now, thanks to you.”

Stormwing tried not to show too much disappointment. There was, after all, a third chair at this table and he could see no reason for the – doctor? Honestly, how did Vanilla Latte manage to know everypony in town? She even knew the ones who didn’t make regular visits to her little café. It was like unicorn magic, but freakier since the barista was no unicorn. He looked at the mare and shrugged. “I don’t mind if you don’t mind.”

Vanilla Latte tried to feel sorry for Stormwing, but at the same time, she couldn’t help but snicker at what had just taken place. She bustled around back to behind the counter in her usual manner to retrieve Stormwing’s soup when the bell above the door jingled once more.

She definitely didn’t recognize this pony. Must be a tourist – Trottingham had more than enough of them around. Latte adopted her usual welcoming attitude but had barely opened her mouth before the tall brown mare began to order.

“Gooooood afternoon! Gimme the strongest, most unforgiving brew ya’ve got, you bodacious barista you! Preeeetttttyyy please!”

“Not a problem, love, not a problem at all,” Latte answered the energetic mare with flourish as she set about brewing her extra-strong blend. “Now, love, I don’t think I’ve seen ye ‘round these ‘ere parts much. ‘ow long ‘ave you been in Trottingham? I ‘ope you’ve ‘ad plenty of time to enjoy everything our fair city ‘as to offer you. If the coffee’ll be all, then that’s two bits.” She asked as she bustled about behind the counter, rushing in her usual way to get Stormwing’s lunch served up in a timely manner. Strange, the other two ponies hadn’t even ordered any food. Not that Vanilla Latte minded, after all – they were here for the atmosphere as much as for the eats.

Again, the bell above the door chimed as another customer walked in. As I said, never quiet for long around here. She smiled warmly at the distinguished stallion who approached the counter – a local artist, she was sure, though she’d never had the pleasure of meeting him in person. “Welcome, wot can I get for you?” she asked with a smile. His reply was rather stiff, though very polite and not unfriendly in the slightest. Latte was instantly curious about this particular Pegasus.

“Good afternoon, I would like the roast pumpkin soup and a long black if you please. My colleagues speak highly of your establishment.”

”Do they now? Well, I’m flattered, really – Three Lakes strives to be the best community centered café in Trottingham to be sure, and the food is of course most delicious if I may say so meself. My name’s Vanilla Latte, I own this ‘ere shop. It’s an absolute pleasure to meet you. Pumkin soup an’ a long black comin’ right up – seven bits is the total, love,” she says, putting a shot of espresso on to brew before pulling the other pot off the back counter. She pours its contents into a mug for the mare who came in before, smiling to herself as its rich, strong aroma reaches her nostrils.

“’ere you go, love,” she says, “the strongest brew we’ve got.”

Fluttershy must have left earlier, as there had been no answer to Twilight's call. The purple mare smiled to herself - probably word of some poor creature in desperate need of her assistance back at her cottage. She turned instead to the newly-arrived visitors. The pony seemed a little bit jittery. Twilight was still getting used to the idea of being an alicorn, and she wasn't quite sure of how she felt, being treated like some famous princess all of a sudden - it was rather unnerving.

"A letter?" she asked, taking the letting from the pony with her magic and tearing the envelope open. She scanned the page quickly - it wasn't from Celestia bearing more information about the ancient spells of Starswirl the Bearded, to her dismay. Rather, it was a letter from her brother who was still posted in the Crystal Empire. She was always pleased to hear from him, of course, but her mind was still firmly fixated on the mysterious spell she'd discovered and was anxious to try it out - she only needed some test-subjects. She distractedly placed the folded parchment on a shelf so she could read it later. Almost forgetting her manners, she quickly turned back to the teal-blue pegasus. "Well, thank you very much for delivering it!"

She turned her attention back to the Griffon, who was still shaking the rainwater off of his feathers. "Uhh, are you okay?" she asked him. "Would you like me to get you a towel?"

4. iKfSVnA.png

Whirligig listened attentively as Light Harmony shared with her and Flashbomb his reasons for using the telekinesis spell the most. She didn’t think it was overdone at all! She thought it would be mighty useful not having to carry things around in her mouth or in her hooves all the time.

”Oh, I can certainly see why you would use that one the most. It’s probably really, really useful not to have to carry everything around with your mouth or your hooves. I know sometimes I think that knowing how to use magic like that would be super-duper useful, don’t you, Bluebird?”

Whirligig was surprised to see that they’d arrived at Light Harmony’s building at some point while she'd been talking. She stepped into the lobby of the shiny apartment after Flashbomb and looked around excitedly at the painted walls and polished floor. “Oh, bluebird, this is gorgeous! I always forget how pretty buildings can be when they aren’t made out of clouds!”

"Well here we are. My home is on a higher level so it looks like we will have to take some stairs. I hope that is alright.

”Oh, stairs sure aren’t a problem for me, songbird – it’s just a simple up-up-up and away we go!” Whirligig was about to turn to follow their gracious Unicorn host up the stairs to his apartment when a loud, booming voice carried across the lobby that stopped her in her tracks.

"Well little lady I think dis be your lucky day den. I apologize if I be imposin upon yer discussions, but I could not help but to overhear the hovering ladies exclamations. It would be a shame not to grant the wish of such an exuberant young lass. It is a pleasure to make yer acquantances, I be Foghorn, but ye can jus call me Foggy."

Whirligig’s eyes widened, and if she had ever even considered placing her hooves on the polished floor of the lobby, the thought was abandoned. “Oh, wow wow wow! It most certainly is my lucky day! Oh, I am so glad my friends convinced me to come on this trip, aren’t you, Flashbomb? Looky look, a Zebra! And such a classy one, too – it most certainly is my pleasure to meet you, Mr Foghorn Foggy sir! Do you live in Las Pegasus? I definitely didn’t know there were any zebras living in Las Pegasus, but I guess a place like this brings folk from all over the world, hey? Oh, I’m so excited to get to see more of this place!”
5. ADvu5ah.png

After waving goodbye to the cream coloured Pegasus, Chibsy turned her attention back to Lyra and Bon Bon’s conversation – the pair continued to amuse her to absolutely no end – she chortled at the thought of Derpy Hooves managing to somehow demolish a public loo – oh the results would be horrifying, but at the same time it would be talked about – and laughed about for years after. She thought of the dingy toilet block over on the south side of the market place, and the more she pictured the calamity, the funnier it became.

“Yeh know, prhaps setting Derpy Hooves on de toilets over dere wouldn’t be such a bad idea. It ‘ud save de town de trouble of demolishin dem.” she said – "Though I wouldn’t wanna be ‘round whennit happens.”

"Ya know, you make it hard to do somepony a favour if you're going to go ahead and conduct fair business like that, Cherry. And I've had my fair share of run-ins with idiots who care more for how something looks than how it gets done- not that you don't look pretty and fit for the role, I mean. No offense,"

“Dat’s me,” Cherry replied, “always conducting business fair as fair. I just wish sometimes that others would do the same for me, ye know? Sometimes life just isn’t very fair I s’pose. Saurry ta hear ‘boutcha dress, Lyra.”

"I'm sure you'll get a good gig soon enough. Have you ever tried modeling? Or seeking jobs in Las Pegasus? I heard they're dying for good performers out there."

“Naw, never been to Las Pegasus before, but from what I hear s’a bit big and noisy. I left Manehatten for a reason – I like Ponyville jus’ fine, so I’m sure I just need to start reminding myself that fer now dis is just a hobby, ye know?”.

Chibsy pulled a wrapper off one of the bon bons in the newly-purchased bag and tasted the sweet treat. She smiled. “Just what de doctor ordered – thanks! Now did I hear dat Derpy Hooves is on her way back to attempt to fix your cart up? Not for nothin', but I sure don’t wanna be ‘round for long if she’s on her way back.” She lifted her amethyst eyes to scan the sky for any telltale signs of Derpy making her return. She wondered if maybe it would be better for her own business to just return home and not bother much with the marketplace for the day. But then she thought about the chores that awaited her at home and decided that this was a risk she was willing to take – it was half of her livelihood, after all.

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Windygust

Sex: Female

Age: Middle-Aged Mare

Species: Pegasus

Eye colour: A deep and pensive Forest Green (#247530)

Coat: A vivid and cheerful shade of light blue (#90FFFF)

Mane/Tail: Her mane and tail are a bright and sunny yellow, and both are naturally straight. She wears her mane wound up in a small, tight bun to keep it out of her face. Her tail is cropped quite short, again purely for practical reasons.

Physique: Windygust has never been the strongest or fastest flyer, but working in the wind tunnels has kept her in great physical condition, even in her later years.

Picture of Windygust:

he5wHTS.png

Note: she actually has perfectly normal looking eyes, I just can't draw. :P

Residence: Windygust lives in Cloudsdale and has for her entire adult life, though she was born and raised in Trottingham. Her young adult daughter lives with her in a small two-bedroom apartment in one of the more working-class neighborhoods of the clouded city.

Occupation: In her younger years, she worked in the weather factory in Cloudsdale producing wind. A few years ago, she was promoted from this position to supervisor and quality assurance of the wind department.

Cutie Mark:

2LqoDfG.png

A yellow kite with three ribbons for a tail, floating in the wind.

As a foal, Windygust loved making and flying kites with her father. Being the middle child of three fillies born to her parents, this became the one special thing that she had in common with her father, that made her different to her sisters. Together they would design and decorate kites as her father explained to her all the intricacies of what he considered to be a combination of physics and art. Windygust had been very young when the two first started the tradition, and was unable to fly on her own. Instead, she would stand on the ground below and gaze up at the kites in the sky, imagining that she was that kite up there; she was the one dancing in the wind, the breeze playfully tugging on her tail and getting it tangled up with her father's.

Her cutie mark was earned when she was quite a bit older, at flight school in Cloudsdale. She was still having trouble flying, and no matter how much she flapped and flapped and flapped her wings and tried her best to fly like the other fillies and colts, she just couldn't get her hooves off the clouds below. Finally, her father came to visit her while she was at school, and he immediately saw how to help her.

"You're using your wings too much," he told her. "A kite can fly without wings - they just use the wind. Use the wind, Gusty, and you'll be flying just like a kite. Trust me; if you fall I'll catch you."

Certain that this endeavour would fail just as badly as the last, but taking comfort in the strong and safe presence of her father, Windygust tried one last time. This time, she didn't flap her wings quite so much and instead let the wind carry her through the air. Much to her delight, she managed to fly all the way from one cloud to another without any help at all! When she reached her father, he smiled to tell her she did well, then pointed proudly to her flank.

"There you go little one; now you know how to use the wind, just like a kite!"

But the wind in Equestria wasn't a completely natural occurrence. When she got older and learned more about how the weather worked, Windygust learned that for most of Equestria the wind was produced in the city of Cloudsdale, and from there it was sent out to all of the villages, towns and cities in that needed it. Her interest soon shifted from how she could use the wind to being more about how she, as a Pegasus, could help to create the wind in all its forms; from the warm summer breezes to the blustery winter gales.

History:

Both of Windygust's parents were pegasi. Her father, Strong Gale, was one of the few weather ponies who worked for the city of Trottingham, while her mother, Periwinkle, was a painter; a house painter to pay the bills, but a more artistic painter in her spare time. Sometimes Indigo managed to combine the two by painting murals in nurseries and children's rooms. On Windygust's bedroom walls, she had painted a scene of a beautiful city, consisting of buildings made out of clouds and accentuated with tall, sturdy pillars. The young filly soon learned that this city was Cloudsdale, the place of her father's birth.

When she visited the city for the first time, it looked just like her bedroom wall and though she had never been there before, she immediately felt right at home. She attended flight school there, and since she wasn't terribly smart as far as academia was concerned, she went straight from school to a job in the weather factory.

When Windygust was still a young mare she became the proud mother of two foals: the first one was a dusty blue colt named Stormwing, followed a few years later by a cornflower-coloured filly named Whirligig. These two foals soon became Windygust's reason for living. She was glad to be working in her favoured department of the weather factory and she enjoyed her work immensely, but it wasn't what her life was all about anymore. She threw her whole self into her children and tried to spend as much time with them as she possibly could, doing her best to both care for and provide for them. She helped them with their homework and school projects, became interested in the things that they were interested in, and saved up bits so that her son could attend junior weather pony camps. Though they never lived in poverty or anything, making ends meet was always a slight struggle and required careful budgeting - there were enough bits to pay the rent and the bills so long as Windygust wasn’t frivolous.

Both of her children are adults now; when Stormwing grew up, he moved to Trottingham, following in his grandfather’s hoofsteps and becoming a weather pony for the town. Whirligig remains in Cloudsdale, still living with Windygust and working in the weather factory just like her mother. The two continue to share a very tight mother-daughter relationship. Windygust still works in the wind tunnels, but now she is in a supervisory position; she manages both training and quality control.

Character Summary:

Windygust is a loving, optimistic and self-sacrificing pony who would do anything for her two children and their happiness. For most of her life she worked hard at a job that many would consider menial simply because she was truly passionate about it; and eventually this passion and determination paid off when she was promoted to trainer and quality assurance. She doesn’t consider her life to have been a struggle though others in similar situations may have. She simply takes everything in stride; sometimes you need to let go of a situation, stop flapping your wings so hard, and just let the wind carry you.

She has a calm and quiet demeanour; she’s slow to anger and doesn’t get worked up over anything. She does keep to herself a lot of the time, but not to the point that she’s antisocial. She gets emotional during sad plays and films - especially when animals are involved. Raising the foals on her own meant that she’d never really had time to go out and spend a lot of time with other ponies when she was younger, and now such practices seem foreign to her - she never did get back into the dating scene, though maybe now that the foals are grown she may reconsider.

Windygust is an optimist; she’s determined to see the good in everything and everyone - a quality that can either be a blessing or a curse. She isn't always the best judge of character and being too trusting of others sometimes gets her hurt. Any shady or devious pony would find her very easy to manipulate and take advantage of - she doesn't, after all, like the word 'no' and has a hard time using it. She's not very good at standing up for herself and sometimes proves to be a bit of a doormat.

Now that her children are grown, she has more time to herself, though she's never quite sure what to do with it. She's always been an average cook, a less-than-avid reader, and a dreadful seamstress (she had the costumes from her childrens' many school plays to show for that). Sometimes, however, she does pick up a paintbrush and dabble in art as she so often watched her mother do when she was a filly. And now, more often than she ever has since her children were born, she'll take a sunny and warm afternoon off, find a corner of the sky to herself, and go fly a kite.

7. Welcome to Canterlot! :) We're always happy to see new RPers around. ;)

I do also draw, but it's rare and I'm not that good at it, just mainly doodles.

I disagree! If that picture of your OC is anything to go by, you look like you're a wonderful artist! :) Poison Joke is a really adorable pony!

8. Please DM rather than simply 'mention'.

In order to DM someone, there has to be mutual following. I tried DMing the site's account this morning, but since @CanterlotGuard is not following me, there is no option to do so. :P

9. The feminist in me can't get over the designs. One thing I like about MLP is that it makes it okay for girls to be different and unique regardless of what they look like. You know, be yourself, whatever that means for you.

Well, we're going to make those fun, unique and well-rounded characters and design them to be cookie cutters of one another and give them teeny tiny waists and short skirts and long legs. Like seriously - in that entire trailer was there a single female character wearing jeans? Trackies? Anything? No, not even Rainbow dash - she was given a skirt over a pair of leggings. Still a skirt in my books.

Oh, Hasbro, you were doing so well...

10. Heya, Welcome to Canterlot!

Wow, Warrior Cats was one of my first RPs too, but it was a Warrior Cats RP on a site for another fandom and I had no idea what it was about. :P Now I've read a few of the books and I rather like them, but I wish I had more time on my hooves to actually read the rest of them. :P

Also, I love your poem! :)

11. While I still plan on doing a thread like this eventually, I have realized that it's going to take a lot more organization than initially thought, especially if I want to generate enough interest in this to lift it off the ground. I probably won't be starting this until after I finish my current University semester, so sometime after June 20th.

For the time being, the character I ended up making with this thread in mind? Got a thread of her own. Found here, it can be used for much the same purpose, but on a slightly smaller scale. :P

Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread, and I will be sure to keep you posted. :)

The warm afternoon sun was beaming through the west-facing windows of the café on the corner of Tatterstall Drive and Stampford Street as the mare inside bustled about, doing the daily tasks involved in the running of the small restaurant. In its beams danced little dust mites - her daughter called them Celestia's fairies, bless her. The windows were decorated with checked curtains she's made herself, using her favourite robin-egg blue in both the curtains and the solid tablecloths that covered the dozen or so wooden tables in the dining area. In crystal vases that were actually made of cheap glass were fresh-picked dandelions delivered that morning by one of the local florists. Posted in the window of the door, written in the owner's scrawling, looping hoofwriting, was a fresh new sign. It read "Help Wanted, apply within."

On the east wall, to the left to the cash-register, was a community bulletin board, completely plastered with posters and notices from all over Trottingham. There was a notice about the circus that would be coming to town next month, a few job offers from the vineyards north of town as well as a mare looking for a foalsitter for her twin boys. Puppies, free to a good home. Yard sale on Coltgrave street this Saturday. Town Council meeting next Thursday at 4 pm. A pony offering piano lessons. A printout of the weather schedule the town's weather team had planned for the upcoming week. An arts show being advertised at the gallery. A pony looking for a maths tutor for high school.

The bulletin board was Latte's favourite thing about her café. The checked curtains, the polished floor, and the bright dandelions all added to the warm atmosphere, but the bulletin board captured the true spirit of Three Lakes - the community. It was an unofficial gathering place for the ponies of the town, where they could chatter and gossip and connect with one another, make friends, get to know their neighbours. This was the reason Vanilla Latte had founded Three Lakes Café.

There were only a few customers sitting the café - a young couple at one table outside, and an elderly stallion at one of the tables along the west wall. Just as Latte was about to go back into the kitchen to get started on the croissants for tomorrow, the bell above the door jingled brightly to announce the arrival of another customer.

"Well now, good afternoon, Stormwing," Latte said brightly, "bit late for midday tea then, innint it?"

The red-maned pegasus smiled at the earth pony behind the counter as he trotted up to it. "Hi Latte. There were more clouds than usual in the sky this morning is all. And Breezyblue's out sick; took longer than expected to get everything done."

Latte nodded as she set about making Stormwing's coffee and serving up his usual order of a tomato and swiss cheese sandwich with cream of broccoli soup. "I 'eard Breezy was out, poor dear. I'll 'ave to get my other 'alf over to 'er with some soup. That'll fix 'er right up. Ten bits, love."

Stormwing counts out the coins and hoofs them over to the barista. "Looking for some help around here, then?" he asks, as he wanders over to a table by the window. The conversation carries on across the dining room between the two ponies.

Vanilla Latte nods. "Cheerylou's quittin', she's off to the university in Canterlot soon. It's a bloomin' shame, too - she 'as just the right spirit for a job like this. But it'll be good for 'er. Anyways, I can't be runnin' the shop in the evenin', what with council business and the foals bein' at 'ome." She places a mug of fresh-brewed coffee on a saucer and carries it over to the table after him. "Know anypony lookin' for a job in 'ospitality, Stormwing?"

He shakes his head. "Nopony I can think of. I'm sure you'll find someone - plenty of students would love working for you, Latte."

"I 'ope so, I've only got a few weeks left afore she'll be leavin'."

Stormwing sips his coffee thoughtfully. "Quiet afternoon, then?" he asks, looking around the restaurant.

"For now, though I expect it'll get busy enough afore too long. 'Ow's your sister doing, then?"

But before the dusty blue pegasus has the chance to reply, their conversation is interrupted by the sound of the bell above the door as another pony enters the café.
