  1. If you are determined to keep the static electricity stored in her mane intact, you might run into problems with the Mane RP. However, you could maybe explain it.

The Wonderbolts, for example allegedly use pouches with clouds in them to create the storm clouds in their wake, you could have something similar, probably. Since it seems to be for show mostly, I wouldn't think it's some kind of secret technology.

You could hide them in your mane and tail, maybe?

    *notes down*

    Hrm.. Fantastic idea..! :D

She could have a pouch to keep an essence of storm cloud with her to help store some of the electricity.. Just a small amount. It only lasts a few hours, so before she is able to use static, she would have to "stock up" before hand.

Or, you know. She could just eat/drink it.

...Can you even eat clouds? o.O

  2. If you want to keep both the electricity theme and this being for Mane RP intact, you could approach this from a different angle.

Although pegasi can't use magic, it's well documented that pegasi are able to manipulate the weather. I myself wrote an OC app for an ice themed pegasus, and what I did was giving it more of a science flair rather then a supernatural one. She uses an array of different powders to create effects like snow, and lower the surrounding temperature.

Maybe you could apply something similar here? Maybe she learned some basic weather manipulation that lead to a similar effect like the one you described? It's just a suggestion.

Yeah, "sciencing it up" was what I was going to go for.

Though that is rather strange in the MLP universe... ..Anyway. It's a fantastic suggestion. :) Only it's not exactly weather based - not REALLY anyway as it's not altering the environment around her, she's manipulating the surges of electricity stored in her mane and tail, so it's more of a body based thing, I suppose. She just uses the weather based elements around her to charge up.

  3. Woah, Bramble thank you SO much for your critique, seriously. I honestly do appreciate it. I'm constantly looking for new ways to improve anything I do.. ^-^

My character has much depth to her and I've spent months of my time giving her a proper back story. (When I'm not working, that is, and trying my best NOT to make her sound like an emo Mary-Sue character...[despite the fact I am not much of a writer])

First, merely that she's troubled by a lot of static electricity when she's not out working with the weather, just as a quirk of her character. She still requires a stormcloud to store any noticable amount of electricity in, but she has a special talent at *manipulating* that electricity - so if she's dancing mid-air, and she touches her hoof down on a storm cloud, she can release tiny spurts of lightning ... but can guide it into slower, different routes than most pegasus ponies can, by physically 'stirring' it through the air with her hooves and tail, creating different channels for the lightning to follow.

I suppose her getting that electricity in the first place would either be a combination of how a normal being would acquire static (most common example here is rubbing your feet on carpet in dry conditions, kind of "charging up".) Using that storm cloud idea is a FANTASTIC idea. Almost like a storage box. She'd need to be fully charged for an entire day to be able to "put on a performance" though. :)

That would create a very strong dichotomy for her - frazzled and jumpy the rest of the time from the static shocks... but gorgeous and graceful when she's dancing with the lightning. I love the idea. It's beautiful, and has such style. And style is my weakness... normally I'd just be shaking my head and going, "no, no no no..." But that mental image of her dancing with the lightning is gorgeous.

I'm so pleased you understand her core - the electricity/static is (sadly) a main and important trait with Spark. I'd hate for her to be mistaken as "overpowered" though.

I know how hard it is to actually accept someone elses idea/character when it looks so out of place. I know because I've seen many characters in the past and just kind of gone..

    oq0Vo.jpg

(Most of the time, they're people with Alicorns...lol)

And I'm also very, very happy you like her.. What did you call it? Gorgeous, beautiful, dancing. I think I'm going to need a tissue. :P If you had any idea how much it means to me for someone else to like this so obscure and strange idea... (And thank you very very much for complementing my art! I only just drew it today as a matter of fact. It's hard for me to get my idea across of Spark "dancing with lightning", so now there's an image to refer to! Hooray! :D)

There is ... one suggestion - she could be for crossover RP. The rules are a lot less strict there than for World of Equestria RP. I'd really much rather find a way to bend the idea around to fit into the World of Equestria RP, if the mods are amenable, because it's a very neat idea, and not *too* far outside of the board's canon - all you need to do is adjust her static-hooves ability, and adjust her timeline to be during season two.

Hrm. Crossover RP? I might just go check that out. Thanks again! But I guess for now I could stay here and brainstorm/talk/figure out everything to do with Spark.

And as for the timeline.. Well.. Hrm... I'm not so sure as to how I could make that work. I might need some more time to think about that as I draw..

I've got sketches down for her as a filly. :3

  4. First: A minor quibble, but the mods really don't like numbered ages being used in an app. 18-19 in human years can be a 'very young mare' or an 'older filly' or 'just on the cusp between filly and mare.'

Second: You're not really supposed to mention cast characters in your app without the permission of those playing the cast character.

Third: Luna was still Nightmare Moon, caught in the moon, when Spark Heart was a little filly. She was just released recently. So she really couldn't have seen Luna once when she was a little filly.

And fourth: Pegasus ponies do not have the magical ability to generate electricity from within. They can only create lightning bursts from stormclouds.

Glad you pointed that all out! :D

I can fix this, allow me to explain..

Spark Heart bears NO magical abilities. Perhaps I should have mentioned that and made it clear. (We all know she isn't a unicorn. XD)

It's really nothing special; she is just able to store a generous amount of static electricity via her mane and tail, and expels it in short bursts through her front hoofs. It's no magical ability..

The fact that she can do that does NOT make that her special talent. Her special talent is being able to kind of "manipulate" it from something practical and functional into something simple and pretty, mainly in her dancing she does whilst in flight. Something a little like this:

    http://www.canterlot.com/gallery/image/2034-light-show/

(I'm not the worlds best artist, just trying to give everypony an idea here.)

As for the issues regarding her age and time, I'd say she is a very young mare. (Sorry, still very new to all of this.)

I never mentioned when the incident happened with Luna happened. It takes place long after Season one. She has only been told of the Nightmare Moon tales but was never around to see it happen.

    But that's not really important..

I just kind of wanted to get her personality and special talent out of the way.

She isn't the most perfect RP character, I admit, (nor have I ever Role Played before) but I don't mind if this doesn't pass approval I suppose. It was fun making a kind of reference for her, anyway. :)

  5. [EDITED & UPDATED!]

Roleplay Type: Equestia Crossover (World of Equestria RP? Is that even possible..?)

    Name: Spark Heart

    Sex: Female

    Age: Young Mare

    Species: Pegasus

    Coat Color: Neon Purple/Royal Purple

Mane/Tail/Markings Color/Style: Very long Mane, tail and fringe. Shaped much like Fluttershy's, only much more jagged and spiky looking. Also quite messy.. She has a steel blue mane and tail with cyan blue streaks in her mane, and a tipped tail.

    Eye Color: Very deep purple.

Cutie Mark: A red love heart with a lightning bolt through it.

Physique: Medium tall and slender. She does not bear much physical strength, but is a strong flyer.

    Origin: Canterlot.

    Current City/Town: Cloudsdale.

Occupation: Works with the Storm Clouds at Cloudsdale Weather Factory.

Motivation: Princess Luna. (See "Character Summary" for details)

Likes: Spark has a strong love and admiration for Princess Luna, despite the fact she's only ever seen her once when she was a filly. Spark likes her space and to be left alone, though she secretly longs for social interaction and a friend. If only she actually knew how to make friends. Always seen with a blank expression, her entire face lights up when she hears music or her favorite song. She can dance all day and night to a good beat! Though she will do so only in secret. Scribbling from time to time helps her relax, too.

Dislikes: Spark Heart loathes it when people comment on her name. "Spark Heart? You're not sparky or hearty at all! You may as well have been called Wet Sponge!" She also dislikes attending work. She's convinced herself that her special talent and future lie with solely working with and helping charge the storm clouds at Cloudsdale Weather Factory. Every day is the same monotonous cycle - wake up, go to work, come home, eat, fall asleep. She also doesn't like ponies who can't seem to mind their own business.. This never goes well with Spark's short temper.

    Character Summary:

Outwardly aggressive and unable to ever fully show her emotions, Spark Heart really isn't that fantastic or friendly of a pony. She doesn't mean to be, though. She doesn't say much, but she longs for a real friendship.

Don't let her name decieve you - named for being the joy of her parents at birth and the "spark" it ignited within their lives, Spark Heart grew to be more troublesome for her parents then they could have ever imagined.

Spark Heart grew up in Canterlot, never really fitting in. Her mother and father were constantly trying to correct her "uncouth" ways, with her frantic flying and "inapropriate" dancing. She was an utter embarrassment to take out in public. They sent her to an exclusive school to try and control and supress these traits of hers. As time passed by, Spark Heart felt more and more isolated. Bullied by a small gang of colts at school, Spark really didn't have anything to look forward to or any reason to smile.

    Except for Princess Luna.

That pretty alicorn of a pony caught Sparks eye when she was just a filly. Every night, Spark would stare out at her window and stargaze - wondering what it would be like to soar high above them. She'd stare at Canterlot Castle, the west tower visible from her bedroom window. What else would a pony do when they're continiously sent to their room for misbehaving? One night, however, she saw a majestic pony emerge from the tower. She was the most beautiful pony Spark had ever seen. As she stared at her with curiousity and awe, she felt the other mares eyes meet her own. Could she really see Spark from all the way over there? The other pony smiled warmly, and without warning, took off into the night sky, disapearring into the darkness.

Years passed and Spark would stare out that same window every night. But she never saw that pony again. Her parents often found her asleep by the window, but never bothered to ask why. (She was strange enough as it was) Using Luna as an imaginary friend, (as she never had any of her own) Spark would always use her as a motivation and something to look forward to, and always dreamed of meeting the REAL Princess.

    Special Talent:

With the use of her tail and mane, Spark Heart is able to "store" static electricity generated by the very same storm clouds she works with at the weather factory. Constantly being exposed to electrical surges, small amounts of electricity build up in her tail and mane, causing it to look "poofy" and "jagged". Over time, this has also given her her trademark cyan blue highlights. Never enough to harm any living thing (except maybe zap a fly or two), she is able to disperse it into short bursts by "clicking" her front hoofs together. Not much to look at when she stands still, Spark Heart uses this strange ability to create a kind of gentle light dancing. As she moves gracefully through the air, she expels her built up static electricity to create a light show at night. It is this interesting manipulation of electricity that is her special talent. She turns something uncontrolled, seemingly dangerous and practical into something delicate and beautiful.

An example of her "light dancing" can be seen here: http://www.canterlot...034-light-show/

    She dances in secret, however.

    Cutie Mark:

Spark Heart's cutie mark was obtained thanks to a group of young colts that pushed Spark to breaking point. A quarrel starting in the school courtyard, Spark fled from them, in fear she would be hurt. After being chased through a brewing storm by the persistent bullies, Spark was eventually backed into a corner with no means of escape. In an act of pure desperation and fear, she reared up and expelled her first surge of electricity from her hoofs as she hit the ground. (It is assumed that the surge of electricity was built up via the storm she flew through)

Only enough to lightly zap one of them, she was no later expelled from her school. Word spreading quickly from "the incident", she was frowned upon and seen as nothing more then an unruly misfit by her community. No longer being able to handle the pressures or expectations of Canterlot (or her parents) any longer, she flew off with her newly aquired cutie mark the following night, shortly after being sent to her room. She has never returned home since.

Note: This takes place after Season 1.
