1. Cranky smiled at little Twist as she bounded over to join the group. She was a very positive, enthusiastic filly. He was always happy to bowl with her, and she wasn't half bad at the game. Twist was soon right at Cranky's side, and he could feel stray curls tickling his sides at times. He was eager for her to grow taller so her mane wouldn't tickle his ribs so much when she stood near. Cranky turned to Mended Heart, hoping that she was beginning to understand how bowling worked and what it looked like.

"Is the game beginning to make sense now, Heart? Oh, and this is Twist."

    "Nithe to meet you!"

Twist near-shouted, thrusting forward a hoof to shake. Twist was always eager to make a new friend, especially a friend she could bowl with. Cranky and Twist's attention was immediately pulled towards a new mare, one who wanted to play with them.

    "Letth bowl!"

Twist shouted, bolting towards the lane with all her energy. She almost immediately tripped and fell flat on her face, skidding a little bit. Her glasses were now a few feet away from her head, and the only sound the came from Twist was a little "oof". Cranky was quite used to this and simply called out to her.

    "You okay, Twist?"

"Fine and dandy. I'm jutht not very coordinated...heh..."

Twist stood, shook herself off, and put her glasses back on.

    "Jeeperth! I really am blind!"

She exclaimed, then grabbed a light ball for herself. It was the lightest ball the alley had, and Twist always nabbed it. She then turned to Mr. Waddle, Pigpen, and Professor Krashkop.

    "Who are you guyth?"

She asked, very curious. She'd never seen them around before. Cranky approached the mare who had offered to play with them. She seemed very confused, maybe even startled. That was to be expected, Cranky realized, considering what a crazy bunch they were. Even though it was outside of his comfort zone to simply walk up to someone and introduce himself, that's what Cranky did.

"Hello, Miss, I'm Cranky Doodle Donkey."

Honey Crisp shouted to the mare who had given her directions to Apple Cinnamon's house. It turned out to be only a few houses down! Dragging a suitcase and a guitar behind her, Honey ran towards her new home. With a speed almost incomprehensible to others, she arrived on Apple Cinnamon's front porch.

    "Apple Cinnamon!"

She shouted, pounding on the door in excitement. She already loved Appleoosa.

Heart-Shaped Box watched happily as her boutique already began to attract a bit of attention. She saw a pink-maned unicorn peek into the window, then move onward with her day. Optimistically, Boxy hoped that the unicorn would return later. Then, two pegasi waltzed into her store.

One was a pale blue mare with a bright red mane that caught Boxy's attention immediately. It was an incredible colour, and the bright yellow streaks intertwined within it were equally as stunning. Her eyes were a bright, ivy green. Boxy hoped that she could find or create an outfit that would go well with the mare's colouring. She was chatting away, and literally floating on air. Boxy grinned with pride as the mare called her boutique a number of adjectives. Quaint. Adorable. Country. Then she called her dresses beautiful. Shiny. Boxy could not have been more proud!

Next to the bright pegasus mare was a pegasus stallion, similar in looks. He was a darker blue with a crimson mane and emerald eyes. He seemed to be a bit out of place, and Boxy learned through listening that the his name was Stormwing. He pointed out a hot pink dress and Boxy shook her head in surprise. With the mare's colouring she simply couldn't wear that shade of pink. Boxy immediately thought of gentle green and soft yellow, and was pleasantly surprised to hear those suggestions come straight from the mouth of the mare.

The stallion turned to Boxy and met her eyes pleasantly. His were a simply gorgeous shade of green, and Boxy wished there was fabric that colour. He complimented her store generously, and Boxy smiled genuinely. He continued to talk in an extremely charming fashion, and Boxy couldn't believe it. Was he trying to make a move on her?

"Well howdy there! Thank ya kindly, ya don't look to bad yourself. Ah actually set this here boutique up all by myself! Ah could've used some strong hooves, though, Ah nearabout fell offa my ladder a few times."

Boxy wasn't used to being flirted with, so she hoped that she was doing a good job. She hadn't known what to say, so she simply said what was on her mind. That's usually how she did things. She decided to pay Stormwing's sister a bit of attention.

"Well shucks, those are an awful lot of compliments! Thank ya kindly. As for ballgowns, Ah've got a section of 'em right here. Allow me to show ya. By the way, what's your name?"

Boxy stepped out from behind the counter, past the flirtatious Stormwing, and over to a rack of carefully sewn gowns. Boxy had worked on them for hours on end, and truly hoped that they would give the mare an idea. Reaching the rack she selected a slim-fitting, floor-length dress that was completely sleek. The fabric was what she was interested in. It was a pale, spring shade of green.

"Ah think this would be a right lovely colour on ya. How does it suit your tastes?"

Heidi's gaze was transfixed out her window. Hours had passed, and even though she had brought books she didn't even pick them up. She truly enjoyed gazing at the scenery, she found it simply incredible. The Painted Pinto Desert was absolutely beautiful. It was already extremely hot in the train car, but Heidi was used to the dry, arid atmosphere. Her home town was no walk in the park when it came to hot temperatures.

Heidi looked around at the other passengers. Besides herself there was Gilda, a spunky and slightly mean-spirited griffon who was already causing a bit of trouble. Still, Heidi saw something good in her under the surface. Falco Kestrelson, an older griffon who owned a pawn shop. He had already proved himself to be in possession of a strong backbone. A smaller male griffon named Razor was next to Falco, and he was already acting quite hot-headed. Miasma Vice, a classy and fierce female griffon was clearly enjoying her time on the train. Finally green-hooded Zelda was sleeping peacefully.

They were a ragtag group of griffons, but Heidi saw value in every single one of them. She would need every single one of them as they tried to steal the Black Opal from Diamond Dog territory. Hopefully none of the dogs would catch them sneaking around the desert in search of the Opal.

Heidi stared at the cracked, ragged desert floor and was reminded of her home in Aquellia. She was going to enjoy this trip quite a lot. Every once in a while she saw a lone cactus looming lazily, and she had a small laugh at their funny shapes. She hadn't seen any Diamond Dogs yet. Suddenly the train came to a screeching halt and she stood up, ready to guide her new friends across the desert.

A lone structure in the middle of nowhere is where they were being dropped off, and Heidi gazed at it apprehensively. The doors to the train opened, and the group of griffons was blasted with hot, unforgiving air. The creaky wooden structure before them looked to be hardly there at all. It was not much of a train station.

"Alright everyone! We're here. Remember, if any Diamond Dogs ask what we're doing here tell them we're on vacation. It may look suspicious, but we can't let them find out that we're trying to take the Black Opal home with us."

Lightning had a lot of work to do. In the morning she was teaching a speed-flying class to foals, and later that day she and her coltfriend, Black Moon, had an audition to open for a band in Canterlot. She was extremely nervous, and she knew that Blackie was too. She wished that he too could be with her in Cloudsdale that morning, but he was a unicorn.

Tired and stressed, Lightning entered a cute coffee shop and looked around. There were two other guests and a barista, which Lightning was thankful for. She didn't know if she could handle a busy crowd at the current moment. She turned to the barista.

"One black coffee and a cranberry muffin please."

Twist was checking out bowling shoes. She had pretty tiny hooves and it was hard to find shoes that fit. She liked everything about bowling. She liked how clean the alley was, and it didn't mess with her allergies. She liked the design of the alley. She liked the smell of the sprayed bowling shoes, and the over-priced junk food the alley sold. It was pretty delicious.

    "I'm a thithe thikth."

Twist said to the stallion behind the counter. Suddenly she turned to see Cranky Doodle Donkey, her favorite bowling friend, enter the alley. Before she could speak, another pony called out if she wanted to join in on a game. She was extremely excited!

"Cranky! Cranky! Can I play with you guyth?!"

  7. Cranky slowly entered the bowling alley, the last of his group of new friends to enter. The alley was crowded as usual, and smelled like pleasant dust and good times. As Professor Krashkop, a stallion Cranky still found quite odd, began asking questions he smiled awkwardly. The Professor wanted to know how often he bowled, and Cranky wanted to try being friendly.

"I bowl quite often! I have two bowling friends that I take with me. Perhaps you've heard of them. One is a young filly with curly red hair named Twist, the other is a shaggy stallion we call The Dude."

Cranky suddenly noticed suddenly that Mended Heart seemed rather uncomfortable. Was it all the flies? Perhaps it was the fact that she was the only mare in the group. Whatever it was, Cranky was eager to make sure she felt great as they bowled. He stepped closer to her and as the friends began moving towards an open alley, he smiled at her in the most natural way he could.

  8. #1 Pink Floyd's The Wall.

    Where do I even begin...

This album changed my life. I love every single thing about it. I've spent countless hours theorizing over it, endlessly pondering its many mysteries and analyzing it senseless. Every time I listen to it I find something new to love. Roger's sorrowful wailing or seductive beckoning David's passionate guitar. Nick's always-perfect drumming. The groovy basslines. It strikes me like nothing else can.

As for the movie, it's my favorite movie ever. I love Gerald Scarfe, and when I found out that he did the art for that movie I was so excited. He did such beautiful art. The animation was creative, flowing, and flawless. The live action had excellent timing and the casting was perfect. Bob Geldof really put his all into it. Everyone does.

The story is very close to home for me. I've not had an easy life, and I've "fixed" a lot of my problems by door-slamming. I put up walls around me and isolate myself from other people. It's simply my nature. Eventually this caused a lot of mental problems for me, and like Pink I had a mental breakdown. I recovered, and around that time I became good friends with my current boyfriend. We bonded quickly, two emotional teenagers, and he let me borrow his copy of the album. I listened to it nonstop for a very long time. It really made me rethink my door-slamming. The day I first listened to that album I finally agreed to go to therapy and get over a lot of old grief and fear. That was the start of my recovery, and I owe it to Pink Floyd.

    #2 Depeche Mode's Black Celebration

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pJQKW6Z7TU&list=PL61D7FDD974F36552&index=87

Every single song on this album has a special place in my heart. This is another album my boyfriend introduced me to. I was a dark, brooding, lonely teenager with a lot of wicked ideas. I never stopped thinking, I never stopped daydreaming, I never stopped having moral dilemmas. It became MY album.

All the songs are spectacular, but my favorite song off of it is Here Is the House. The line "I feel your warmth and it feels like home" always makes me cry. I always felt unsafe in my own home because of my anxiety. I never really felt home anywhere and I had panic attacks and extreme compulsive paranoia. But when I was in my best friend's arms and he said that he loved me... that felt like home. We were the two teenagers in that song, simply sharing stories, hopes, dreams, warmth. We were each other's home.
