  1. When suddenly Batman burst from the shade and hit Godzilla with a bat grenade...
  2. Norma resists the urge to shrink and back up from the other Simic pony, who unfortunately not only turned his attention back to her, but approached as well. She furrows her brows in confusion as she listens to him rattle off some order he has. "I'm sorry...I don't understand, Doctor. Am I in trouble, or did I do something good? This is most unusual."
  3. The first kitten we've ever lost in about 4 years of rescue. We are lucky that we've had so many kittens and never lost one, but that doesn't make it hurt any less.
  4. Norma pushes her plate away, all but a few crumbs devoured. After the bartender's announcement, she glances around in wonder as the lights dim, replaced by a very soft green glow. She relaxes in her chair, suddenly feeling very at ease. "Beautiful..." she whispers. What a nice night - lovely atmosphere and good food. She's been trying to ignore the other customers, who seem a little more loud and rowdy than she'd prefer, but she is in the Undercity, after all. She felt like scolding the pony for making somepony else cry, in public, even! Tsk tsk. They both stormed out though, peace seeming to settle through the tavern again.
  5. We are playing as pony residents of Ravnica - original characters, no Planewalkers, etc.
  6. "Thank you very much!" she chimes as her steaming mushrooms arrive. She's glad she found this place now, and the food is so good that she's happy to support what actually appears to be a brand new business venture, listening to the conversations going on. The bartender seems to know the other Simic pony, and she's thankfully that he is approaching him. Maybe the Simic will leave her alone, now.
  7. Norma Gene instantly stills. Somepony saw what she was doing. Without moving a muscle, she looks where the voice came from. Wait a minute, she knows this pony. He often picks up the successful specimens at the end of trials and takes them...wherever they go. She has never been introduced though and he's probably never seen her since she keeps to herself in the lab. She wasn't doing anything wrong with the cytoplast though; there is no law against it, so why is he staring at her like that? She bows her head to the table, focusing intently on her mead, hoping he gets distracted by something else and turns his attention away from her.
  8. "Thank you, sir," she replies to the bartender, smiling warmly. She takes a careful sip and closes her eyes, the sweet liquid burning only slightly on the way down, making her ears tingle. Perfect. She around her table a bit to get further away from the bar, which has suddenly become overrun by hungry ponies wanting those mushrooms. She waits a few minutes for the dust to settle, then makes her way up and samples one. "Wow! No wonder everypony is making such a fuss. I'll have an order of them as well, if it's not too much trouble..." While the bartender is occupied with taking everypony's orders, she peers around the bar at his mangled leg. While nobody is looking her way, she pops open what looked like a sapphire in her necklace, extracting a tiny bit of cytoplast material. Her "first aid kit," as she calls it. Never leave home without it! She takes another look around before flicking the tiny mass at his leg. A little bit goes a long way. She stares for a moment to watch it grab hold - it attaches very quickly now after all, thanks to Momir Vig. After a few seconds though, the moss and debris holding his leg together seems to absorb the cytoplast, instead of the cytoplast bonding to it. What? She goes back to her table and sits down to wait for her mushrooms, puzzled. She'll try again later - maybe it just hit a bad spot.
  9. She pouts a little bit, she hates raising her voice. For this gentlecolt's sake, she leans forward and lightly shouts "A mead, please?" She tilts her head as she watches him walk around. He has a limp. His back leg appears to be damaged. Hmmm... She just sits back and ponders, hoping he could hear her this time.
  10. Norma Gene glances around the lab and notices that everypony else had already left for the day. Slackers; just because it's the holiday they all skipped out early. Meanwhile, the lab was going to close at midnight for the entire 24 hours, which meant nobody would be here to take care of the patients. She made an extra round this evening and left them extra food and water, and made sure they were extra clean and nobody was in any obvious pain. Satisfied with her work, she turns off the lights and closes up the lab tightly. They'd be okay until she returned. Besides, she hasn't had a day off since...well, last Festival Guildpact. It was purely voluntary on her part, however. She came in on her days off to check on the specimens; she rarely trusts anyone else with their care anymore. She stops by the restroom on her way out of Novijen to freshen up. She pays so little attention to her appearance anymore since her days are filled with caring for others, she's almost shocked at how out-of-control her hair is. She smooths it down with some water and gently taps her cheeks to get some color back into them. She's spent all day thinking about what to do. She wants to go out, be around people who AREN'T mad scientists. Laughter, that's what her life is missing. She decides against staying at ground-level today. Too many ponies, she isn't ready for THAT kind of social interaction. She heads down a long ramp that eventually goes to the Undercity. She doesn't plan to go all the way down, but just far enough away from the crowds. She doesn't have to walk long before she finds a quaint little tavern, cutely named "Mushroom Kingdom." What the heck, she'll peek in and see what it's like. She can always find somewhere else. Looking around, she's happy with her choice. There are a few ponies, but still plenty of room to move around and be comfortable. While it does look to be run by Golgari, it is cozy and pleasant. She sits at a table near the bar, not brazen enough to sit directly at it. This is novel for her - she smiles, pleased with herself. "Umm...barkeep? May I have some mead, please?" she asks quietly, probably not even loud enough for the rusty-colored stallion at the bar to hear her.
  11. Name: Norma Gene Sex: Female Age: Mare Appearance: Turquoise coat with lime green speckles, jet black unkempt mane and tail, pinkish-red slit eyes, ears look mangled; obviously has had experimentation done to her. Wears an elegant necklace with emeralds and sapphires. Species: Unicorn Physique: Slightly pudgy, but not fat. Doesn’t get out of the lab much. Cutie Mark: DNA Helix Origin/Residence: Ravnica Occupation: Caregiver to patients and specimens at Novijen. Motivation: Trying to keep the goings-on at Novijen at a humane level while still supporting the Simic credo of advancement and evolution. Likes: Animals and reading books. There is little emotion in the Simic Combine, she fills the gaps with fiction. She often rescues failed experiments who survive and cares for them in her home. Dislikes: Seeing ponies and animals abused or mistreated during experimentation. She hates the cold-heartedness of the members of her guild. Flaws: Many physical flaws. Some of her guildmates have discovered her empathy towards the creatures they work on and word is getting around that she is weak. Personality: Soft-spoken and caring. She tries to stay out of the way; she can do the most good if nobody is paying attention to her. She helps anyone who asks. Character summary: Norma Gene’s parents are both members of the Izzet Guild. She grew up surrounded by inventions and her parents constantly tinkering with things. She could never find the passion in studying inanimate objects though and instead chose the study of living things. She tested her way into the Simic Combine, which also meant being experimented on as initiation into the guild. Thankfully her first experiment was very minor and successful. She started out in Novijen as an assistant researcher, examining ponies and other creatures in the lab that were currently being experimented on and noting their progresss. After a few weeks, she could no longer be passive about the ones who were suffering as a result. She asked her superiors if she could instead be a caregiver, feeding and cleaning up after them. It is an unglamorous job that the less intelligent ponies were forced into, so they were happy to oblige her request, however odd it seemed to them. She started secretly giving them pain medications and would sometimes sneak some cytoplasts onto the truly unfortunate. At the end of a clinical trial, the failed experiments were usually either put out of their misery or released to wherever they came from, but she started taking one here and there home with her, especially smaller animals, but never ponies. She still doesn’t have the heart to face a fellow pony that so much harm was done to. She still absolutely supports the betterment of species through science, but she also whole-heartedly believes it can be done in gentler, responsible ways.
