Don't quit your day job. Making a living off of writing takes a lot of networking, a healthy dose of good timing, and a fair chunk of luck. Try for it by all means, but don't rely on it working out.

It's not about whether it does or doesn't work out. But the reason authors KEEP putting out books is because they need to be consistent to keep getting paid. So it's not a bad job, but much like voice acting, until you get really good, you might need a side job to help support yourself.
