    Ahhhhh. Gotcha.

Certainly, we don't see animals beyond the context of the mane six, but likewise, we don't see ANYthing that doesn't pertain to them. After all, we don't see perytons either, nor have we cause to suspect that Griffin society is as we've imagined. These concepts, and indeed all concepts, were permitted for no other reason than that the community envisioned them mutually enjoyable. Succeeding all of these, we ought to expect specific reasoning for why certain concepts might not be allowed. What might be thought fun for all isn't something we could ever guarantee consensus on, but there are a few principles that root them. Primary among them: Does a concept agree with the themes, values, and settings of the show? And failing that, does it at least not violate them? In addition, we consider "gameplay," or balance. Might a concept unfairly favor some players over others? To the first, do we see animals having adventures of their own on the show? No. Do we know them to exist unattached to ponies? We do. We see them in the everfree forest, for instance (and it is mentioned as well, in fact, that the creatures in everfree live untamed). We see them rescue Fluttershy prior to her residence in ponyville. And where it is not explicit, it appears implicit that animals have lives of their own, including potential adventures. The world is likewise as perilous to animalkind as it is to ponykind, after all. As for the final clause -- gameplay -- most animals would not appear to unbalance gameplay or roleplay. Bears and lions might warrant caution, perhaps, but a bird probably can't harm anything. So my question is this: what about the concept of animal apps warrants special consideration beyond those of others? As I see it, they might be considered as perytons. Given that perytons at least appear uncommon, we are cautious of allowing everyone to play one (although most people will want to play ponies, given that is what they see the most of on the show anyhow), but with just a few people at it, it's just a fun option. Given that animals can't speak, I suspect that their attraction will be limited (except for the comanions specifically featured on the show) and that there will be no need for special moderation.

No, you'll never get her consent that way, Diego, you gotta THINK like Angel. "FLUTTERSHY, HEY, OVER HERE. You need an Angel. Otherwise you'll just go on and on with the wafflin' an' we ain't got all day here. But don't worry, I gotcha. You be you, and I'll be Angel, and it'll all work out, capiche?" I dunno, I always envisioned him with a New York accent, if he could talk.

I realize ponies are animals, but what of animal-animals, in the style of Angel or Gummy? Playable? And are the show's animals playable (that is, could you apply for, say, Owlycious)? In discussions with some of the mods here, people seemed to like the idea that animals can be NPCs or PCs depending on the context. That is, if an animal is considered someone's "companion animal," then they are RPed by the same player that RPs the pony the animal is companion to, whereas independent animals could exist as well (or even animals created with joint BGs with another PC).

Ponies would easily win against griffons. 1. They can rise and set the sun. Can they move it around? They could bathe Griffons in the dark and kill their crops. They could position it at their backs and blind griffons on or above a battlefield. Do the griffons have gods watching their backs? 2. The weather. Some seem to downplay this here, but the ability to summon tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, droughts, blizzards, heat waves, etc is major. Think of the damage that some of these natural disasters have wrought upon human communities. Now think about intelligent beings controlling these events with the intent to kill and destroy. 3. Unicorns. Again, downplayed. Hit and run tactics cannot work against an enemy that teleports. Guerrilla tactics are less effective against an enemy that can see through things (think of Rarity's gemfinding). That their numbers are low might well not matter. Well trained and equipped forces can handle MUCH larger groups of enemies. Having just a few wizards on a battlefield wound make a massive difference. A unicorn could teleport into an enemy general's bedquarters and slay them while they sleep. I'm convinced these ponies could actually beat modern-day humans, in fact. Look throughout history and you can find many examples of weather deciding a battle. Ever wonder where the advice "don't fight a land war in Asia" comes from? It's those Russian winters. Ponies are Equestria's dominant force for a reason.
  8. Biggest additions are and > I've been having chronic problems with the hair, but I think is the direction I'd like to go with it. It looks like hair, it looks like clouds, and that establishes the for the hair realy well. I sat down and I figured out the physiology of the stuff, which has long eluded me. It took a lot of ****ty sketches to figure that out. When i set out to make smileys, I never imagined that i'd have to worry about **** like that. In fact, i took this because I was sure I didn't have to. But hey, I'm learning new skills, and I'm still having fun with this. Usually.
  9. Well, if you're looking for another giant chunk of stuff to link to, there are all the gen 1-3 songs.
  10. Exactly. This was a matter of Corporate Meddling. Faust conceived of Celestia as a queen, but Hasbro nixed it, presumably because "princess" is more marketable. Faust has said herself that there is no higher power than Celestia in Equestria. She rules the land with an iron hoo--with grace and serenity.
  11. I love them all, but I'm most fond of BowTie + AJ. Bow Tie's cutie mark feels like it was designed by a pro.
  12. Though she's made it clear this is not the reason she stepped down. Yeah, it's more about future implications. A good producer is worth following.
  13. Babies are a major change in a person's life. This will likely have an impact on her career. If she was considering going back to the reportedly insane hours she put in for FiM (on another project, perhaps), this is very likely to make her rethink that. Kids need attention, and she's not going to have as much time for cartoons. So even if you're not the type to gush over babies (I'm not), this is still newsworthy.

Because Eurobeat Ponies is one of the most popular memes around, and because relatively few people are doing stuff with sound. I mean, even in the videos, there's some feller Bandpuffs that does all the talking, and you're some mysterious dude he knows and talks about. Like you're in some back room and can't be disturbed by your masses of fans.

I'm sure I'll come across some in my travels. Also, my avatar very closely matches the beat of "At the Gala." Looks like Pinkie's dancing along.
  16. It's only semi-related to other topics currently going on. I've been on boards where the mods will split things like this away from other topics, so I figured I'd just save the mods a step and do it for them. The chat is 98% unusable right now. I gotta do SOMETHING.
  17. Well, I wouldn't say NO reason it might fail. Sometimes even when shows don't change staff, they fail. But the evidence augurs well for a season 2.

Oooh, and it's a good one! ♪Oontz oontz oontz♫ I didn't even know what a eurobeat was until Eurobeat brony.
  19. Quasi-related: Faust is having a baby!. I put this in another thread, as she insists this is completely unrelated to her decision regarding her position on the FiM crew (it happened after the decision was made), but I dropped a link here since she put the news up on the same page as her announcement (as a post- post script).
  20. Via Deviant Art: Yay! This is great news for her. I hope having kids doesn't make her lose her edge like Eddie Murphy or any number of other stars who weren't as good after having kids. But I'll leave the worries for later. Unrelated side question: Could we get forum code to include slashthrough tags? Pretty handy, those.
  21. This, SO much. Celestia lacks "humanity" (for lack of a better word) in part because we don't get to see her flaws. She's starting to become someone I like, definitely, with her "trollish side" adding an unexpected twist to her character (which makes her feel a bit mysterious as well), but her power and her positivity tend to drain some opportunities for interesting conflict. I feel like she could step in an easily solve some of the "outside threat" episodes that have occurred, which makes the threats a bit less menacing.
  22. I am nothing if not a ball of over analysis. Fear and worry DO have one benefit: Expectation management. If you don't expect much and don't get much, you don't feel let down as much as you do if you expect the world and get garbage. But I think expecting total garbage at this point is a bit alarmist. That's a season 3/late season 2 speculation. If this show goes bad, it's not likely to lose everything that makes it good (animation, I suspect, will be good throughout), and it's not likely to do so all that immediately. That's my guess anyway.
