  1. I'm not trying to knock the work here. If it read like that, I apologize. I'm just trying to relate my viewing experience and the opportunity to chatter about semi-related arting techniques came up too.She does kind of have a canter/gallop look to her, in that suspension moment between steps, but its hard to distinguish between that and a Pinkie Pie style bounce. But overall, this picture made me wish I hadn't missed out on the ponywalk threads. :)

She is cantering, that was the idea. Being in that in-between moment when all four legs are in the air. I wanted to show how she was happy with what was going on. More than that I am curious what people thought of the glow; mainly I wanted to try something else for it.

The tracks do tell some pony did go that way before, yes.

  2. I'm guessing that's some kind of hibiscus flower behind her ear? (definitely gives a Hawaiian feel to it.)She looks like she's in quite a hurry. The tracks on the ground were my first visual clue that she wasn't about to run headlong into the stand, but it did make me wonder who had gone that way before her.(I don't mean to be contrary, but I did notice that Celestia's magic glow is yellow while her eyes are purple. I suspect you could probably use whatever color fits best though. I mean, really... its magic. :) )I get the impression from this pic that the gallopacous threats were pretty awesome. :)

I don't think she looks like she was going to run into the stand regardless. :/ As for magic, it could be based on the cutie mark instead of the eye color. It is just hard to say.

  3. Awesome stuff! The new magic effect looks good! Don't suppose I could ask you how it's done?I love how well the background turned out, despite how simple it is. Did you do the clouds yourself, or are they from the show?

I used the lightest color of her eyes (the highlights) as a guide since it looks like a unicorn's magic aura is the same as their eye color (purple for Twi, blue for Rarity). I set the brush to screen on a normal layer to do the glow. The extra glow on her horn were second strokes using that same screen brush. The sparkles are different, it is the same color but a screen layer with a normal brush (so the opposite of what I did for the horn).

As for the clouds, I used pictures from the show for reference, but I drew them myself.

  4. I know it appears now and then on occasion (a, imo, failed attempt at shading to add depth) I just felt that in the picture you posted it seemed oddly prominent. Sorry, I get nit-picky about Rainbow Dash >.<

Edited it some, with luck, you'll hate the picture a little less. :P

  5. 2. the shading on the eyelid makes it look like she's wearing eyeshadow, which dash would never do - though I realize that's probably not your intention)

Nope never... Except those times she does because as Dessa said, they all do when certain expressions are used. Those who *really* have eye shadow (such as Rarity, Fleur, or the Spa Ponies) always have eye shadow that isn't a slightly darker version of their natural coat color.

  6. I know she is supposed to be gritting her teeth but it honestly looks like she has large white lips around a closed mouth. You should have the lines that separate the upper and lower teeth come from either side of her mouth and fade towards the middle.
