1. Firefly (and the movie) was simply fantastic. My main regret for the shows cancellation would be how certain antagonists were clearly meant to be reoccurring characters, and as such never really got as large a limelight as they deserved. For example, I believe I recall reading somewhere that the alliance officer from the episode "message" was supposed to be a reoccurring character.

Despite that, they still had terrific characters who were all well developed, as well as some truly, truly unnerving villains. I still remember cringing at those agents with the blue gloves. Creepy.

  2. Keystone suppressed a small chuckle as he grinned at the pegasus' reply. Apparently, he noted, the poor stallion startled rather easily. He continued watching as his new acquaintance promptly crumpled under the weight of his bags. Keystone even winced a little a that one, did not look fun. But, the matter at hand was more pressing. He gave the pegasus a brief look-over, deciding he still looked a little young. Probably from a farm, too, what with the 'howdy' and everything. Not wasting much time, he spoke up.

"I hate to presume, but you look like you could use a little help." Without waiting for an answer, his blinked a few times in concentration as again his horn illuminated. This time, the bag was enveloped in the gray aura, and was lifted up a little and over a little, until it came to a rest by the pegasus' feet. Keystone offered a friendly smile before continuing, "Annnd that should fix your gravity problem for now. Maybe you should pack a little lighter next time." He chuckled a little, despite his earlier attempt not too, before dawning on the realization that he had not introduced himself yet.

"Oh, forgive my manners. My name's Keystone. I don't mean to intrude, but the middle of a field is hardly a place to mope. I don't suppose you're alright, are you?" Inwardly, Keystone mused a few thoughts. He was being uncharacteristically talkative right now. Why, he even got a few sentences in a row! Not often that happened. He also might have made a decision to sit down, had he had any inclination to mess up his coat. He did not, so he remained standing. He had no need to look professional at the moment, but practice never hurts.

  3. Keystone nodded as he listened. An author, that certainly explained the pegasus'- Ms. Rainmaker's, as it were - cutie mark. Then again, a winged book couldn't mean much else. He did find himself a tad put out that she wasn't from around the area, what with his lack of knowledge regarding the layout. Still, she still might know one or two things. She certainly seemed an expert on stairs, anyway. He also noted that she hailed from Cloudsdale, a city which he would personally give a hind leg to go visit. Shame that such a visit would probably end with a decent amount of plummeting, but he that was neither here nor there. What was present was the question Rain Maker had asked.

Shaking the hoof, he happily replied "Pleasure to meet 'cha, Ms. Rain Maker! Name's Keystone, and no, sadly I'm not a local. Shock, ain't it? I'm from all the down in Manehatten. Well, I was. I'm an architect by trade, see, and a lot of towns have need of new buildings. I've been around the map a few times." He smiled with the expertise of someone who planned a day-to-day introduction before adding "Gawking simply happens to be a hobby."

Then, to his surprise, he saw another figure approach in his peripheral. Turning his head, he saw a red stallion approach. Keystone heard something about a shop, but he figured the unicorn was talking to himself. Hmm... another red unicorn. Why, if he knew that it was a trend, he mused, he would have grabbed a blue coat! Luckily he still had that hat he picked up from earlier. Anyways, he turned to the stallion walking towards the pair and spoke.

    "Errm... Hello?"

  4. Keystone blinked for a second as he registered the voice that most decidedly was not his thought process. Then he noticed the pegasus standing fairly nearby. He also noticed the grin, and decided she probably wasn't serious. Probably. He shared the smile for a second, as he thought of a few options he could use as a retort before deciding on one. "Two bits?" he raise an eyebrow, "Why, for two bits I'd fall down and back up!

He then took the opportunity to assess his adoring crowd. Definitely a mare, and definitely blue. That much was obvious. A shame he wasn't more of a detective, otherwise he could probably deduce a bit more than the obvious. Well, that wasn't quite true. Now that he thought about it, her comment didn't seem like something coming out of your stereotypical Canterlot elite. So, having assumed the pegasus was a local, he figured he had been tragically misinformed about the Canterlot populace. Well, that or she was visiting too. Keystone reckoned he had a fifty-fifty shot, but he'd put his money on both, to be safe. With that knowledge safely concluded, he continued on talking.

"So, I assume you're not here for the stairs, what with the wings and everything. I don't suppose you're from around here, are you?" He asked in an inquisitive tone, though he still had the slight grin. Hadn't really vanished from the previous one, despite a fair bit of thinking. He might as well attempt to start a conversation. He probably needed directions, anyhow.

  5. Keystone trotted down the road leaving Manehatten with a rather content look. It was always nice to visit the city. Not much had canged since his last visit, though, and despite it all he remembered why he went traveling in the first place: to see new sights. Not that he didn't enjoy Manehatten, though, the grandeur of the city never ceased to amaze the velvet coloured unicorn. Indeed, there seemed to be a building for every colour of the rainbow, and every hue in between. Why, he even remembered where his favorite hat shop was! Every proper aspiring gentle-stallion should have a decent hat worth his salt, Keystone always said! Well, maybe less 'always said' and more 'just thought about it'. The important thing was he had bought a hat, and that was alright.

As the road carried on, the height of the the buildings gradually declined and became increasingly sparser in terms of space taken. A shame that such a city couldn't stretch out forever, with such amazing buildings, but there were pros to the countryside. For example, there was already noticeably less hustle and bustle as he went a long. Other ponies are nice, but crowds can get overstimulating rather quickly. Especially when you want to stop in the middle of a busy sidewalk to look at a particularly well-done layout of a building. Other ponies tend to get cross at that. But, it probably was better to think less about the city and more about the road ahe-

    *thwack*

Keystone stopped, both in means of motion and thought, as a piece of paper hit him square in the face. Keystone paused for a good second as the paper hung there, almost denying the rather considerable breeze altogether just to hang on his face for comedic purposes. It didn't last though, and a moment later it slid off. Turning around, Keystone raised an eyebrow at the paper currently lazily drifting down the road. Eventually, a slight chuckle broke free from the stallion, and a gray nimbus of light surrounded both the paper and his horn (he had already removed his hat and was currently holding it in a raised hoof).

"No no no. No escape for you, after all the trouble you went through just to get my attention, Mr. Paper." In a rather brief show of magical competence, the paper hesitated for less than a second against the breeze before retreating backwards as if it shifted gears to reverse. With a brief nod of concentration, the paper had politely tucked itself into the saddlebag currently draped over the stallion's back. He knew Manehatten already had a slight litter problem. Why contribute? He'd just hold on to the thing until he came across the proper waste reciprocal, or whatever ponies called it. The important thing was, he could move forward with a clean conscience.

He didn't get that far before he noticed a blue pegasus (at least, he thought he saw a glimpse of a feather under its bag) sitting off a distance from the road. Curious, he trotted towards the figure. Upon further inspection, Keystone decided he wasn't really sitting, but rather existing in a state of either moping, accepting defeat, or some combination of the two. Deciding to try and make sense of this, Keystone thought of a few things to say to make his presence known. He settled on the simplest one.

    "Hello!"

  6. Awesome!

... And ironic, kind of. Ha, ha. It actually sounds like it could be great fun for Keyframe to meet Keystone. Them both being travellers with connections to Manehatten definitely provides a common ground. It could be a lot of fun indeed. c: If you'd like, I could go set something up in Manehatten or near there?

Sounds very much like a plan! And yeah, near or around the city would work perfectly well.

  7. Well, hey, I'd be happy to oblige here, seeing as I need to get into the RPing more myself. Actually, Keystone (Keystone being the name of my OC) is a traveler with roots in Manehatten, so a meeting between the two would be the opposite of far-fetched. That could work nicely, actually.

  8. So... all is gathered and the moons have aligned their orbit with the nebulas (nebuli? Nebulises? meh, what care I for such trivial wordplay? I care a lot actually, for I have fooled you!) of Candor. All is perfect in its timing, as the eagle might descend upon the helpless prey that is the majestic tree stump. And yet, on the eve of mine ultimate net gain in the terms of not gaining anything at all, I find myself...

    Adequate.

Adequate, in knowing that once time has passed like a golfer passes a basket ball over the net to hit a home run just to realize that the nearby porcupine stampede has ruined his beautiful hairdo. And just what a hairdo it is. But I digress, seeing as how my main point is explaining just how to get others to see what I am saying, so that what I say makes sense enough to be able to explain my sayings to others for their ability to relay my sayings into their sayings so they can get others to say what I am saying, if you know what I'm saying. If not, that's fine, for I still have the metal token of unlimited wisdom.

No wait... it was the metal token of +3 wisdom. The metal token of unlimited wisdom was lost forever between the gnashing steel teeth of the monstrous cardboard box with gnashing teeth duck taped to it. But whatever, says I, for in accordance to my grand scheme, I have developed the ultimate symbol with which to signify my status as a super-human with so much stuff to symbol with. I have created for my purposes of symbolism...

    MR. ROGERS WITH SPOCK EARS!!!

  9. Then AJ went against her element before Discord even shows up. She lies once or twice in the first season, not quite sure if one of them counts as a lie. The one I'm sure about was in the Party of One (Party of None? Idk) episode when Pinkie followed Rainbow to AJ's barn and AJ told her there was construction going on when it was really a party. I'm not sure if she lied or not when she was kicking out with hind-legs the orchard by herself or not (idk the name of that episode) but I think she did. The other 5 have flaws too, but AJ's lie just stuck out to me, probably since she's the element of honesty.

Well, although I see where you're coming from and too a certain degree I can agree with your opinion, I must admit that I don't believe that because a particular pony is the element of [any of the five besides magic, because magic arguably isn't a personality trait] that they have always perfectly embody that element. For example, Rarity certainly skipped out on the generosity when she picked high society over finishing Twi's dress, Fluttershy can be incredibly mean from time to time (You laugh at me? I'll wrath at you!), and Pinky even has an entirely different hairstyle to show when she's in anything but a laughing mood. It would make sense if each pony had to struggle with inner vices to maintain their particular element and therefore when they do act in accordance with their established role,

For example, although AJ may lie from time to time, when she does act with honesty she shows it perhaps even more so than the other five. But, you know, that's just my take.

Anyways, to reply to the original post:

To be perfectly honest, I really don't enjoy Trixie that much. Really, I just have a problem with third person speak from anybody other than Gollum. I also wish I had more of a respect for Pinkie Pie in general, but again, that's just a personal issue with accepted irrationality. Oh, and I find her a tad shallow from time to time, mainly from the sheer duality and extremities of her personality. There's never really a middle ground with Pinkie, and I appreciate the middle ground a bit more than I should.

Wow, that was a tad more verbose than I intended it too be.

Also, hardest choice was picking between Flim and Flam.

  11. The train ride to Canterlot was a marvelous thing. In between the tunnels that found themselves periodically built around the tracks, one could simply look out the window and be awed by the view -- and to a certain extent, a little humbled by the view. This was certainly the case for a certain red-velvet coloured stallion, who let loose a small gasp at the city so far off in the distance, steadily drew closer and closer. This might have drawn a little attention to the unicorn, had he not been rare enough to board one of the emptier trains; as it stood, he was the only one in his cabin to enjoy the view. If it were less spectacular, he might have been a touch lonely.

As the train gradually shortened the distance the excitement for the unicorn simply grew until he was convinced it was tangible in the air. "I'm going to Canterlot" he thought. Indeed, little else could be on his mind, and time seemed to slow down and speed up simultaneously until, dramatically, the train slowed to a halt at Canterlot station. The unicorn resisted the urge to bound out the doors and dash off to go sightseeing. Despite practically beaming with joy, he had heard all kinds of stories of the more judgmental upper class in the city. It was important to maintain composure.

Stepping off the tracks, the first thing he noticed was a slight breeze. The second thing he noticed, was, well, he couldn't help but voice his thoughts: "I am standing on a castle, literally carved into a mountain." If one listened closely, one could even here a slight squee punctuating the sentence. Taking a happy sigh, he started forward.

And then he promptly stopped. Looking down, he noticed a hat. Not realizing he was still thinking aloud, he continued, "Hmm... the breeze must have taken some pony's hat." He stared thoughtfully at it, before his horn glowed and levitated it into his outstretched hoof. Dusting it off, he examined it before adorning it over his steel coloured hair. Content with his souvenir, and deciding that its owner must not miss it in such a high class society, he rounded a corner into the street.

Ten minutes later, he was hopelessly lost, and enjoying every minute of it. As he wandered about, he must have looked very much like a tourist struck with sightseeing syndrome. He couldn't help but look with awe at every building. The care that was put into each one boggled the mind. As a budding architect himself, he practically stood and applauded a particularly regal looking house. Caught up in all the joys of the moment, he practically didn't see the staircase in front of him. He fell down the flight before you could say 'Equestria's funniest home videos' before landing in something resembling a sprawled out snow Pegasus mixed with that pose you end up when you fall backwards into bed.

Chuckling at the mere thought of what he must have looked liked, he joked aloud "Ten out of ten for the landing. I'd say I stuck that. Wait... how did this hat not fall off?" Standing himself up, he brushed his coat off, straightened his tail a little, then chuckled again, albeit more privately. At this point, he was enjoying himself a bit too much to remember that bit about the high class society.

  12. Or something along those lines, anyways.

Point is, I recently had my first OC approved and passed through the system, and I'm itchin' to get started. Problem being, I need somebody else, because RPing with myself is just writing fanfiction.

So, to describe my character: link

If you're not in a link-clicky mood, the short version is Keystone - Keystone being the OC's name - is traveling around Equestria as an architect, looking for jobs, a few friendly souls, knowledge, and any combination of the three thereof. So, if anyone reading this has an OC in need of a new house, or just wants to interact with a decently traveled pony, don't hesitate to reply!

Oh, and feel free to ask about details or post ideas and the ilk. Knowing is half the battle :)

Edit -- Welp, I'm an impatient man. I went ahead and created an open thread here, if anypony is interested in that.

If anyone would still like to reply with different ideas, I'm still open like a book. Well, open like an open book.

  13. Well now. I feel socially obligated to join in the fun

But then again, why only aubergine?

Oh, sorry 'bout the mistype, I meant aubergine.

Huh. How did I mess that up twice? Well, third times the charm

    aubergine.

aubergine aubergine aubergine aubergine aubergine aubergine aubergine aubergine.

It would appear that I'm stuck in a loop.

I cannot willingly misspell a word, and yet I want to convey the word aubergine (argh) so as to question why aubergine (argh) is the only word that is drastically changed.

Ah vell. If you can't beat them, join 'em. Aubergine (you probably can't tell but I actually spelled that one out. Take that, word filter!)

  14. Oooo fun... two more people with which I share similar interests!

You, sir/madam, are my type of person. :D Welcome! If you have any questions or just need somepony to rp with, I'm always glad to rp with somepony new! :) By the way, I suppose you are a fellow Gravity Falls fan? :3 *pokes your profile pic*

Yes, I'm a rather big fan of Gravity Falls, I guess the cat's out of the bag.

Not to imply that I stuff cats in bags, of course.

  15. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

    Name: Keystone

    Sex: Male

    Age: Stallion

    Species: Unicorn

Eye colour: A very natural shade of gray, not unlike well-maintained stone.

Coat: Keystone's coat is a very dull, velvety shade of red, and it tends to stay rather short, both by its nature and Keystone's decent grooming habits. While he certainly doesn't pride himself on it, he feels obligated to keep himself at a presentable condition. A good first impression is important, and all that.

Mane/Tail: Like his coat, Keystone's mane is well-maintained, combed, and cropped. Being the mane, it certainly is longer, but certainly no longer than you're average stallion. In regards to colour, his mane actually matches his eyes quite nicely, although his hair is arguable a more rough colour. Usually the majority of it is kept under one of his hats he's so fond of, except for the sides and bangs. His tail is fairly much the same, although a more attentive pony might notice he keeps slightly less neat than his mane.

Physique: Keystone is very much the average pony that others might compare themselves too. Not for lack of effort, though, as Keystone has made many an attempt to beat the statistical average of a trap he's fallen into, but usually that's to no avail. So, until further notice, one could remarkable unsurprised by Keystone's physique.

Residence: Keystone doesn't actually have a permanent residence, instead preferring to travel between various cities. Lots of towns have need of new buildings, so it would only see fit that lots of towns would have need of Keystone's talents

Occupation: If there's one thing Keystone is proud of, it would be his rather successful career as an architect. Well, okay, technically he's still studying, but a hands-on approach still counts. What better way is there to learn than with experience

Cutie Mark: Keystone's cutie mark is a small stone arch comprised of five trapezoidal blocks of stone, the uppermost one at the center of the arch being noticeably larger than the other four. This mark represents Keystone's natural talents when it comes to the design of a structure, and his ability to mentally construct and plan out a standing structure. Besides the literal, the arch - as a standard form of support - represents his fairly stable personality, freestanding and independent.

History: Keystone was born in Manehatten, as the only foal of a rather successful business pony and the owner of a restaurant. Due to the decent success of both of his parents, Keystone spent a good deal of his early childhood either at a local daycare for young foals. Not that he was ever upset by this; on the contrary, he enjoyed the he spent there making decent amounts of childhood friends and playing with the toys. A personal favorite of his were the blocks.

In school, when he was old enough to take part, he did surprisingly well. He was decently social, and was pretty much on par with most of the lessons, and he never worried much about earning his cutie mark. Sure, it was important to him, but he reasoned there wasn't much rush until the rest of the class starting getting theirs; he was never really competitive about it. Then, one day, the teacher gave out an assignment on building toothpick bridges, reasoning that it was a simple and fun arts and craft project. Enthralled by the project, Keystone took as more of a challenge, and with a glimmer in his eye, he furiously started doodling on paper. In about ten minutes, he had sketched out an actual blueprint for a design. Admittedly it was rather crudely drawn, and in crayon at that, but still pretty impressive for a foal.

When it came time to actually build it, Keystone was certainly a few steps ahead of the class, mainly because he had a plan that he stuck to with a one-track determination. Eventually, when he finished, he had a bridge that was not only larger than everypony else, but it could actually support his weight! Well, it could kind of support his weight. He stepped on it to test it and it held steady for a good five seconds before the glue holding it together collapsed, but that's besides the point. The main point was that he had developed a passion for building, and by the end of the day, he had earned his cuties mark, and there was much rejoicing.

As he continued to grow, his passion for architecture simply grew alongside him. It became fairly common to find him either at the Manehatten public library reading from a stack of books on the subject, to just wandering the streets and surveying the skyscrapers. In addition, when he matured a little, he began to help his mother (the restaurant owner) out by working as a waiter at her diner. He wasn't strictly old enough, and it wasn't really a family run business, but his mother reasoned it would be an excellent way to test out his independence and responsibility. And although he did have troubles from time to time with customers, he managed to carve out a fairly stable reputation both in his family and among the patrons. The experience certainly matured him, and helped with his pony skills.

Eventually, the time came when he signed up for the Manehatten University, where he took an architecture class (logically) and a class on basic unicorn magic. Why a magic 101 class? Mainly because Keystone thought it would be a waste to not do it, as he was, you know, capable of magic being a unicorn and all. When all was said and done, Keystone spent a good few years studying his chosen subjects, until he started to feel a tad bottled up. Manehatten has great arcitecture and all, but when there are actual fantasy castles carved into the side of a mountain, skyscrapers aren't simply enough. So, eventually he made the decision to take his studies abroad, and along the way see if he couldn't actually find a job as an architect.

Character Summary: Keystone is a very stable, dependable kind of stallion. Although he's fairly lighthearted and quick to crack a joke or lighthearted comment, he tends to do what he says he will, and he makes doubly sure that's true for promises. When doing what he's been asked to, Keystone also makes sure to discover the intent of the task he's currently on, and from there may not strictly uphold the technicalities of the deed if it gets in the way of the spirit of things. Keystone pays attention to minor details, but only when they compliment the major ones - anything less and he starts to ignore technicalities.

Socially, Keystone is decently outgoing, and always eager to meet new people. Problem is, he also tends to be fairly quiet and thought driven, which can make him seem a lot shyer than he is. He'll certainly be willing to hold up a conversation although said conversations tend to dwindle into a series of pauses. It also doesn't help that Keystone is rather fond of sarcasm, and while his comments aren't biting and he by no means ever means harm, they can come off as unkind, or perhaps uncaring.

In terms of faults, Keystone's biggest one would be pride. Not that he's egocentric, or insufferable, because he isn't. However, he reacts rather emotionally to perceived insults, and his temper can become startlingly short when his previous or current work is thrown into the mix. Its quite noticeable when this happens, because he tends to get incredibly defensive about the subject.

In addition to personality, Keystone is also fairly decent with spells. Most of his expertise pretty much comes down to telekinesis, of which he has a basic understanding, but he's also fairly talented with spells that can identify various substances such as minerals or metals. These help immensely in his job where its always useful to know exactly what you're building a house with. Aside from these two subjects, Keystone doesn't rely much on magic and most of his studies from Manehatten have escaped his knowledge.

  16. I appreciate the welcoming committee, thank you :smirk: (on a not-unrelated note, I found the emoticon button!)

Hiya! Steampunk fan mm? Do you like Steam Powered Giraffe?

Yes, actually. I'm rather fond of them, although I haven't listened to a great deal of their music. What I have heard I've certainly liked, though.
