Yup, that's the sort of look I was going for - a hungry animal that only operates on instinct, with hers specifically being greed for more stuff. Probably greed for more pony friends, lulz.
And no, the point is that some eastern dragons are depicted with more mammalian features, i.e. the nose and snout, fur around their faces and heads, the same way they have long and sinuous bodies instead of large bodies with wings like western dragons. If the RP forums weren't essentially frozen in time, this is pretty much what Yuri would grow up to look like, except with softer, more feminine features. That's what her dragon species looks like. It may not fit a conventional dragon look that people are used to, but Yuri's not a conventional dragon. The look perfectly fits Yuri's softer, more expressive, and puppy-like nature.
(And I actually used Haku from Spirited Away as a reference, not wolves from Princess Mononoke).
Hey thanks Harmonize, I appreciate the comment. Don't forget to leave a "Like" if you like!

Wow, that's a really cute style. I love the sketchy yet clean look it has.
-
Well he's not being considered anymore, he's been accepted. Huzzah!
-
What? Don't listen to other people - this species is still being considered for WoE, it hasn't been tossed out yet.
Google "Abada". I didn't make this species up - they're the African equivalent of a unicorn, only they have two horns and a boar's tail. Though to be fair, part of the info on Daahir was written with Dubstep's original write-up for the species in mind, such as horns regenerating quickly and having control over the natural world rather than the unnatural. I've taken any "definitive" statements about the species and applied it solely to this character though, so other Abada aren't required to follow the same formula.
If you're really interested, you should ask Dubstep to link you his original write-up. I'm not sure if he'd appreciate me doing so here, but it was an interesting read. It's what inspired me to try and get Abada as a playable species in the first place.

Well...thanks for telling me two different times not to expect my character to be accepted. I understand, thank you.

Aaaah, I've missed seeing new art from you pop up in the gallery. Derpy's hair looks adorable in this picture, and so does her pleased little smile at her awesome landing. Pls to more McDerp artz.
(Also in case you hadn't heard, there have been changes to the forums RPing rules for cast characters. Cast are available for anyone who wants to RP a cast character (I think there are actually four Applejack players now), so you could totally ask for your Derpy app to be brought back and you wouldn't be hogging her at all).

Ooh, I love her hair, and the contrast between her eyes and coat color. Awesome visual - now I know exactly how much Inkbrand will need to flirt with this NPC!

I really like the background/portal on this picture. The gradient on the portal really gives off a nice 3D effect, where it feels like the portal is getting smaller in the distance and I could actually step into it if I wanted. Really cool effect.
-
I have no idea who Zed is or why you keep mentioning him, but that's Inkbrand.
And QueenCerali, thank you for that. Your comments, your 'Like's, they really do mean a lot. It's always gratifying to see comments that are about the art itself and not just a random comment about the picture, if that makes sense.
-
Whelp. If you read the description, you'll notice a link to a first compilation picture. Inkbrand is there, along with the other four OCs I have in addition to these four. So nine in total.
I'm not making any more OCs though. I mean it. Really.

These are phenomenal! The variance between soft and subtle and bold lines is very striking and effective. What did you use to make them?
Thanks kindly! Don't forget to leave a 'Like' if you like~
I work entirely in Photoshop, and usually only use two distinct brushes - one's a calligraphy brush that comes standard in PS (basically a tilted brush that'll give you thicker and thinner lines depending on which direction you stroke the brush. I use it for the body), the other is an ink-styled brush that twists and bends on itself. It's what I use to do the hair. Also I use a texture I downloaded for the background, to mimic a paper/scroll type feel.
In all honesty, if you look at Okami pictures, most have a distinct ink border around everything, all hard lines, because that's the type of art the game is based on - sumi-e is what it's called in Japanese. But for my drawings, I like leaving the hair undefined. It's way easier and cleaner looking, if not lazier!
-
Edited the picture, fixing the hair and making the background color lighter. Looks a lot better, in my opinion!
-
is there a way to simultaneously like all of your artwork?
Not that I'm aware of, heh. But I appreciate all the 'Like's all the same!
-
Thanks!
And it took about...two hours? Hour and a half? The hardest part was sketching - everything else came along pretty easily.

disguises that will probably be used only once
And also the fact that he'll pretty much be proclaiming he's a Changeling to make a point. Pretty sure he won't be wanting to use the same face and name again.

Guh I love how you use highlights and shadows in your drawings. Everything in this picture looks so vibrant and bright and full of life. Really liking the new brushes too, I need to look up the flower brush set!

ndflasf that glare is perfect. His eye is piercing so brightly and trying to rip apart his target with just a look…and, that skin shading. I think that is probably my favorite thing about your new shading style - you shade skin smoothly and seamlessly. The light blue highlights dotting his skin really add color to his otherwise muted color scheme.
And can I admit you've done a better job replicating his hair than I have? Like wow. I'm just, I can't. Daffff this seriously made my day.
*saves to computer a gajillion billion times over*
Also Wispy Woo lulz

I really, really like this piece, probably because it's really interesting to see the subtle nuances between the different species in one space, all drawn in the same art style.
And also dat Saddle Arabian mare like wow.

Another evolution of your artwork, as again, I had no idea whose art I was clicking when I saw the thumbnail. It's crazy to look back on your old artwork and then see something like this pop up in your gallery. I think the shading on the skin is my favorite part, it's crazy - the way you defined the eyes and snout and mouth with CG artwork is incredible.
…Yyyyeah. There's plenty more I want to say, but I'm too busy being speechless. So, I'mma just, got over here now and stare some more, m'kay.
-
I honestly didn't recognize this as your art when I first saw the thumbnail, only after I clicked on it and was brought to your gallery. Your anatomy is getting a lot better, and it's great seeing an expression different from ones you normally draw. Much approval!

Youtube "Blue Lightning TV Galaxy", it should be the first result. I've yet to watch his other tutorials, but if they're anything like this one I'm sure I will love them. He uses a lot of short keys I didn't even know existed and explains them clearly, so I learned more than just what sort of technique he was teaching.

Oh good! I was just about to KO on a McDerp Art Deficit.
That little smile of his is adorable. Plus the large, shining eyes. And the cutie mark, oh my goodness. And his scruffy mane and tail! And - everything else, yup, pretty much.
-
The magic swirl came from a brush set, though I can't remember which. I have so many free ones downloaded.
Thanks!
I guess I should clarify that he doesn't hate unicorn magic in and of itself - he knows its uses. He just hates when unicorn magic is turned on him, especially when a unicorn forces his body to do something he doesn't want it to do (levitate him, hold him in place, etc). He feels its a huge invasion of his privacy, yet unicorns use their magic as easy as you please on other ponies.

I forget the era (maybe Victorian?) but the frilled collar and sleeves were definitely inspired by a certain type of look. I can see it in my head but I have no idea what it's called. Everything else was made up.

This drawing is amazing...just enough detail to give the impression of scales and weathered skin without it being overpowering in design. Any chance a picture of the full dragon will make its way into your gallery?
