It was a tiring day and night for Forest Touch. Well not that much tiring - after all splicing troll genes into himself gave him excellent condition. Ten days passed since the Festival of the Guildpact and his Laboratory was more busy then ever. In the last week they managed to release astonishing 23 new species - and no fewer then two-thirds of them proved to adapt successfully. It made Forest a very proud unicorn, his reputation was assured to grow thanks to this accomplishment. Even last night escape of captured Bioplasms didn't broke his good mood - mostly because most of them were recaptured quickly, and others was taken down.

But what pleased Forest Touch the most, was his new main caregiver. Norma Gene proved herself to be very responsible Simic, even against various rumors that was flowing around her. To tell the truth, the mare was transfered to his lab for sole purpose of Forest making investigation regarding her. And while many stories regarding her had proven true - like her softness character for example - Touch was more then surprised by the results that followed during this ten days.

The death rates of experiments had fallen down for a full 7%. Not only that, creatures under her care displayed increasing tendency in displaying social behavior. The carnivores that was designed as a pack hunters adjusted to their intended purpose more quickly, and herbivores started to care for their youths on their own far faster then expected!

The traits of character of Norma while unwanted in other Combine research centers, proved to be blessings in Laboratory 11.

Right now, Forest Touch was finishing his report about inconspicuous mare. Well it was as much a report as his own petition to keep useful caregiver in his lab permanently. Doctor gave a finished document a good look and putted it aside, pleased with the end results. After that he released his 'quill' back into terrarium. While Simic guild often written documents, only those intended for those outside of the Combine got normal ink and paper messages. Among themselves, Simic used a a leaves of a plant, specially breed for that very purpose in place of paper. Instead of quills their writing tool was modified caddisfly larva - that stayed in in it's child form for whole life. The head of the larva produced special liquid that was substitute for ink, and since rest of it's body was hidden in it's self build home, it was hygienic to hold it in pony mouth. Such writing was visible only in infra-red spectrum, and not even all of Simic scientists had access to such sight. Of course Combine used this method only when when writing information intended to be stored for the long time. For sending simple notes and other less important messages, Doctors and Guildmages had even more clever methods.

Forest touch rose from his seat to stretch his legs. He walked to the window to look at his subordinates below. Window was not made of glass however, as all things Simic it was organic. A thin and transparent plant membrane, that could block the light to various degree, when touched in right places.

"It was almost two weeks. Should I wait three more days for this?" Doctor Touch pondered in his mind.

"No...I will call her right now." he decided. After all it was almost time for him to walk home.

He fished out a beetle from yet another terrarium and put it on table. Insect unfolded his wings, exposing a yet another membrane on it's abdomen. And then Forest started dictating message for his main caregiver - the membrane on insect vibrated, registering his words. When beetle will find information recipient it's organ will release recorded sounds, word for word. After he finished speaking, Doctor delicately tapped the insect to signal it that it was the end of message. After that he walked to the 'drawer' embed into the wall. Some of them were filled with documents. Others with test samples. The ones he searched through right now contained parts of his subordinates . After finding one labeled as 'Norma Gene'. Without further delay he pulled several test-tubes out of it. They contained normal things - mane and coat hairs, blood, urine and other thing of the body. What mattered right now was the smell. Doctor opened each of them and allowed the bug to sniff it's contents before resealing them once more. After he finished with the last one, the insect finally moved and flew off, in search of the addressee.

If Melody Amber's thrulls had a full three names, he would have used them. It was the only power on Ravnica that could truly express the level of disappointment he felt. As the two obediently obliged their master, he greeted both with a coddling stroke of the head (as both were trained since long ago to stay just the right height for this) before knocking them together like a pair of ripe coconuts.

"Knuckleheads! Numbskulls! Nincompoops! You had one job! One! Today was going so well and here we are... well, alright, I don't know where we are. And whose fault do you think that is, hmmm?" He breathed deep, counted to ten and let the anger subside. No point in getting irate over the stupid leading the blind. Besides, the facts were these: He was neither dead nor being held hostage, so he could assure himself he wasn't in a Rakdos slum or any other ghastly sliver of the Undercity. No random explosions meant no insane Izzet laboratories. Assuming safety, he barked the order, "Asterix. Door. Now." The smaller of the two chirped up, sounding like an overgrown cricket and jerked his master's leash to the nearest entryway, to which the Unicorn knocked thrice.

He hoped that despite the noxious smell of chemical and animal meant somewhere well kept. May they be friendly, he prayed. Or at least bribe-able.
