History: Oil Wells, whose father was a farmer and mother was a baker, lived a simple Foalhood with nothing extravagant to call his own. He ran and played with others his age, went to the same schools, helped around the farm during his free time, but as he grew older, he yearned for so much more. The banality of a ‘hard working’ life in which his parents lived had left him somewhat…unfulfilled. He often looked out his window trying to imagine the sprawling metropolises across Equestria that he had yet to visit.

His father would make trips into the town of Manehattan, takings Oil Wells along, but the visits were often brief and left him a tad disappointed as he wished to see so much more. The amazing structures, the busy streets, the crowds of ponies, the constant activity of a lively city; for a short period of time each month, he was in the middle of it, but it drifted off into a day dream as he found himself back home in the same old surroundings he had been in since he was little.

As a colt he took great strides to find a job outside of farming so he could save up his money. It wasn’t a lot at first, a few pieces here and there, but it was something. During breaks he would work himself silly, keeping the steady job he had and performing odd jobs around his town. He would often return home exhausted and spent, but he had a goal in mind and he was going to do everything in his power to reach it.

When he was of age and had saved up enough money, he decided to travel abroad and experience the spice of life. He went from city to city, taking in the sights, getting to know the ponies, trying to see how others lived in such a grand environment. Out of all the cities in all of Equestria, he felt the most comfortable in Manehattan. It was everything he remembered it being; the streets were still busy, the ponies still traveled in massive crowds, and the buildings, oh the buildings, how they towered over him displaying themselves as one of the greatest achievements in the history of ponykind. He knew, as he looked up at one of the inconceivable structures, that someday he wanted his name displayed prominently down the side of a building just like it.

As his savings were running low, Oil Wells took up residency at his cousin’s place who also helped get him a job manufacturing oil lamps in a company that was a branch of a major company that produced other major oil based commodities. He quickly found that his parent’s down-to-earth hard working philosophy did benefit him, because he found himself slowly rising through the ranks, soaking up information on the industry like a sponge. Again, he began to save up money for a new goal. He had found his calling. He sold belongings, he worked day and night and when the time was right he separated him from his current employer (having worked his way to a prominent position) and went into business for himself, taking a number of ponies with him.

His company slowly grew, taking the short cuts it needed to be able to one up his competition and become a household name. He found that he was slowly reaching a ceiling of sorts by limiting himself to the oil game, so he decided to expand by making a few investments in coal and steam. Finally, he had reached the kind of success he could have only dreamed of as a tiny little foal. The world was his for the taking and it would be no surprise to anypony if he didn’t do so.

Now he looks to the future, see Equestria in its true glory, as a pony looking down at the landscape instead of a colt looking up at its grandness. His parents had claimed that he had lost touch to his roots, but he paid them no mind. In fact, he separated all ties with them as they had made it abundantly clear that they just didn’t understand what he had become.

Character Summary: Oil Wells is, at the very heart of his being, a sweet talker and can talk any pony into his favour. That, along with his willingness to get his hands dirty to get the job done, are the main two reasons he is the successful pony he has become today.

Though, behind closed doors, his polite demeanor and smooth words are just a façade. He much prefers his own company to that of any other pony and would much rather just sit at the top looking down as opposed to being in the mass of it all. He sees investments and figures walking the streets more so than ponies. When he has nothing to sell, when he has no one to impress, being around him could provide to be a most unpleasant experience. He has no patience for others and constantly mumbles comments to himself. If his eyes were to fall upon you, he wouldn’t be looking at you, he would be looking through you.

However, his aversion to being around others hasn’t impeded upon his travels as he has chosen to continue experiencing the very best that the world has to offer by seeing every corner he can travel to. His travels were the reason he had set-up his empire in the first place; so that he could do as he please with no regard of how others looked at him, so that he could spend bits on the finer things in life without worries of running low on funds

At the end of the day, though, Oil Wells was never good at relating to other ponies. He found himself a tad alienate when talk to other ponies and finding that he had so little in common with them, he felt separate. Its something that festers in him and forces him to grow more secluded, using his business to build four walls around him.

Hilariously as I was going through this application, I immediately thought of Daniel Plainview, and then saw your signature :)

It's a well-thought out app with an Equestrian twist, but please be sure to make the character your own during RP. It seems like you are well on your way and this character is "Inspired by" and not just a direct expy, so that is good!
