The twins giggled as the absentminded pony misheard Shanna, then corrected himself a moment later seeingly without realizing it.

Hoss and Shanna looked at each other in concern when he spoke of delivering the wagon. Hoss ulped "Um didnt' Zecora say she lived in the Everfree forest?"

Shanna nodded "Y-yes, she did. You might want to see who visits her and ask their help as a guide. The damage to the telescope happened in the Everfree and you can get in trouble awfully fast if you take a wrong turn."

As they waited for a reply, the room grew warm from the furnace. Even with the warning of Klondike's ear twitching, it still took Hoss by surprise when Klondike turned nose to nose with him.

The twins nodded eagerly as the earth pony masked up, ready to handle the brass tube. "Oh yes! we would be delighted to see that."

Klondike simply nodded his head and approached the twins’ telescope atop the bench.

“Alrighty, first…”

He commented tone that sounded like he was reminding himself of steps, rather than talking to anypony in particular.

“We take it apart…”

With a swift move of his hooves, he dismantled the telescope into 3 segments, one being the afflicted segment.

“Then, you hut ba hongs n…”

The metallic tongs attached to the front of his mask bounced a bit as he worked the end inside his mask into his own muzzle, making it hard to understand his speech.

Once the tongs stopped bouncing around, silence fell on the outside work area as he maneuvered the tongs towards the brass piece of telescope with the dent in it and picked it up. Carefully, he turned his head towards the furnace and nimbly placed the piece inside, the hot glare from the tongs and bronze making it obvious why he had to wear the mask.

Next, after placing the piece in the furnace, he walked around it towards an anvil that sat next to it. Suspended above the anvil was a small metal hammer head, about the size of a hoof. It was held in place by a metallic tube the protruded from a rather odd closet like contraption that was attached to the anvil itself. Below the anvil were a pedal and a hoof sized dial.

Klondike took one quick glance at the hammer above and his front right hoof stepped on the pedal. The hammer head fell and struck the center of the anvil with a resounding heavy metallic twang. His ears perked a bit and even below the mask they could be seen twitching as the sound reached them. With another quick shift of his right hoof, he adjusted the dial and once again stepped on the pedal. This time, the hammer head fell and struck the center of the anvil with a much less pronounced twang.

Another quick adjustment of the dial followed by another even less audible twang, and the odd repair pony in the mask nodded his satisfaction.

Nimbly, Klondike moved back to the surface and used the metallic tongs to pull out the piece of telescope from the furnace. Only the part of it with the dent seemed to slightly glow from its time in the furnace and Klondike wasted no time to trot over to the anvil. With one quick push on the anvil, it effortlessly glided back a bit so that the round end of it was under the hammer and he quickly place the offending bend atop it before stepping on the pedal.

*twang*

Klondike moved his head a bit, still firmly holding the piece with the tongs attached to his mask. He moved the piece so that it faced a differently towards the hammer above.

*twang*

Another fall of the hammer and Klondike once again moved the telescope piece into a new position atop the anvil.

*twang*

It continued as such for well over ten minutes, each hammer fall followed by an ever decreasing adjustment of the piece above the anvil. Only once more did he place the piece back in the furnace for the shortest time possible before resuming his work.

Finally, he took the piece off the round end of the anvil and placed it on top. He then held the edges of the tongs around the edges of the now round piece and took a quick measurement, the tongs appearing to lock into place. Nimbly once more, he walked back toward the table with the dismantled pieces of the telescope and held the tongs next to each piece for comparison.

Then, uncharacteristically, he slowly trotted back to the anvil and stared at the piece atop it. He stood there and waited.

Without warning, he swung his head and unceremoniously knocked the piece off the anvil and into a small troth of water next to it. The piece landed with a splash and let out the faintest of steam and hissing noices.

He looked back at the twins and after one quick wobble of the tongs he finally spoke again.

“OH! Hello! Welcome back. Didn’t even hear you leave. Did I offer you cookies already?”

He paused for a second as he scratched his chin under the mask and then looked at the troth of water.

“It should fit perfectly now but it’s going to have a scorch mark where it was headed. Did you want me to polish that out or did you want to leave it as a battle scar to regale other ponies with a flair for the night sky?”

Hoss and Shanna watch this process with awe as their telesope is repaired before their eyes, with far more dramatic effects than a quick zap by a unicorn artificer.

Finally the telescope body is presented to them with a scorch mark.

The twins look to each other for a moment and talk to themselves rapidly as if they were one pony thinking aloud.

"Should we leave it like that? The Artificer who usually handles it might be upset at us not waiting for him when he sees the mark."

"I think it adds character, and it will eventually polish out from normal cleaning."

"Right, and it's evidence of the Hydra attack. Very well, it stays."

The twins turn back to Klondike, speaking one sentence in parts. "It will be fine just as it is, We'll see to putting the lens elements back in ourselves. We left them in the cart for safekeeping since nothing needed done with them."
