Regal could not believe she had overslept! She rushed down the street to her small shop hurriedly, hoping nopony would be awaiting her at the door. "Half an hour!" She shouted at herself aloud without meaning to. How could she do this, she never overslept! It was all the birds fault she decided, chirping wonderfully outside her window and lulling her back to sleep. She would remind herself later to shoo them away. She did not have time for over sleeping, she was a working mare and had to prove herself if she ever wanted to be worthy of being a royal armorer.

At least some luck held out as nopony was standing outside her doors waiting for her! She ran up to the small shops front entrance and fumbled for her keys. The building was a decent size with plain brick walls, the two windows on the front set in purple sills. between the windows sat a metal door with a big lock. The back half of the building was sealed off but seemed as if it could be opened up on the lower half to allow access. Regal finally got her keys in hoof and unlocked the door. She left it hanging open welcomingly as she turned the sign in the window around and began to open up the smithy. Curtains opened, candles were lit in dark corners, and the back entrance was opened with a bit of magical effort from the unicorn. She was ready for business and in record time! She could not help but feel proud of herself as she looked around her forge. She had come far since her days as an apprentice and someday she may just find her dreams in reach. That day was not today though and thee was work to be done!

She lit up the forge and started cleaning her tools, she had a few commissioned pieces to finish up but they would be done quickly enough. She was ready and waiting for more to come, her eyes wandering to the door in case she missed an entering customer and the bells that would jingle if the door moved.

What a lovely morning it was in Canterlot! Sugar Star had awoken at the crack of dawn on one of the rare days where she could actually afford to sleep in, and though her weary body had protested when she first rolled out of bed (quite literally, and the resulting thunk! when she landed upon her rump was quite loud!), she was glad to be awake. The moment she had donned the second skin that was her golden armour and stepped out through the doors of Canterlot castle, she knew she had made the right decision. It had been some time since the feisty young pegasus had seen the sun rise over Canterlot, and what a treat it was! Though the wind was a little crisp this early in the morning, the gentle touch of sunlight that was slipping over the gilded rooftops of the royal city warmed Sugar’s wings and face and glittered brilliantly off of her armour. What a treat! Sometimes, simple moments like this were the strongest reminders of why she was so proud to serve Celestia and Equestria as she did: these little moments, even though they must happen every sunny morning, were utterly precious! More so than any gem Sugar Star had ever seen.

But that was enough poetic dwelling on the sunrise: Sugar Star was a mare on a mission! Her parents’ anniversary was approaching, and she wanted to get them something very very special for the occasion! Luckily, her father had been dropping hints all over the place, even if it was unintentional. Like her, Sugar’s father was a pegasus and a proud member of the Royal Equestrian Army, though unlike her he was a First Sergeant as opposed to a Specialist. He was always very much an REA stallion: everything down to his fashion and interior design senses revolved around metal and shields and mail and- well, you get the picture. So for some time now, he had been saying how he would like to replace the old landscape painting on the mantle above their fireplace with a decorative shield that displayed the family’s cutie marks! Shockingly enough, her mother had agreed – normally she would be frustrated by her husband’s predictable tastes, but having the two loves of her life in the Royal Equestrian Army really changed her tune on this one!

And that was why Sugar Star was awake so early. She would be on duty at the castle later in the afternoon, so for now she wished to check out a smithy that she had yet to visit in Canterlot: Regal’s Steel and Iron. With a smirk, Sugar spread her wings and leapt away from the castle, immediately catching on an updraft that carried her up and into the sky, the wind rattling her mane as it stood out of her helmet. What a morning! Indulgently, Sugar wasted a few moments simply soaring about Canterlot, until finally her sense of responsibility kicked in and she tilted in the direction of the smithy she had been told of by a fellow enlist.

She touched down in front of the shop with a flourish, a fancy landing for a fancy flyer! Time to spend some bits! Smiling, she trotted on up to the door of the shop and entered, causing a little bell attached to jingle cheerfully.

“Good morning!” she called out merrily.

Regal heard the telltale jingling of the bells on her door before a cheerful voice carried to her, "Good morning!" It seemed that she had arrived just in time to open before her first customer of the day arrived. What luck! She gave the piece of metal she was working on with one last pound with the hammer before putting her tools down. "Good morning," She announced as she came from the forge to the storefront, "my name is Regal Steel; but you can just call me Regal, and it would be my pleasure to help you in any way I can." She smiled in a friendly manner as she looked over the customer, immediately noticing her finely crafter armour, clearly identifying her as a guardsmare. Regal smiled a bit brighter and chirped a bit nervously, "Oh wonderful, I'm always happy to help Equestria's finest." The mare gave a small wave around the shop where shields, helms, and assorted other armor pieces, weapons, and tools hung. "Can I help you find anything?" She asked as she finished her wave by pointing a hoof at the counter that held a sampling of metal jewelry and accessories. Regal could tell the mare was not here to have her armour repaired as it was in near pristine condition and fit her perfectly, so she had to guess she was seeking an item that did not pertain to her work. This wouldn't be her day to prove herself capable as an armorer but at least she would gain a customer out of it.

Locke had been up early this morning. He usually was always up early for work anyways but today was his day off. He had only been working for the Museum for a month or two now and he had to say..it was quite nicer than the one in Trottingham. He just assumed it was that way since it was Canterlot and all. Everything about the city was fancy. He loved it! Everything you laid your eyes on was like a treasure! But, unfortunately..those treasures could not be taken away like the ones that had been found at some of the dig sites.

Locke decided that he would need to quit paying so much attention to the colours and sights of the city and actually find out where he was going. He really had no idea now...he had never been to this part of Canterlot before. Still looked as fancy as ever though. One thing was for sure though, Locke did feel out of place. Everypony seemed to be wearing fancy clothes and what not. Locke was just wearing his archaeology hat and jacket.

"Oof!"

Just then Locke fell back a bit. He shook his head and came back to himself and tried to realize what just happened. He had just run into a stallion that was a bit larger than him. He was wearing some type of jacket though..was it..cashmere? No..it was..bahh who cares.

"My apologies then. Didn't see ya there." The charcoal coloured unicorn fixated the tan hat back over his black mane. He nodded and then moved on from the stallion.

As Locke moved on through the city he was extra careful of where he was going. He was more observant as well. And his observing eyes gazed upon a rather nice looking shop. "Regal's Steel and Iron." Locke put a hoof up to his chin. This store seemed really interesting! So Locke decided to pay it a visit. He didn't see many stores like this one when he was growing up in Trottingham

Locke pushed the door open and the there was a small jingle from the bell near the door. Instantly...Locke was amazed at what he saw. Armor and all the like everywhere! And everything..was so...well crafted. By a true craftspony. "Somepony really knows what they are doing." Locke glanced over a lot of the pieces. Then he realized that he wasn't alone in the store. Two mares were also in the shop. A grey mare with a purple mane. And a yellow coated mare. He didn't know either of them. So he decided to speak to them. "Ello there! Sorry if I was interruptin', I was just moving along an I noticed ya forge here. Tis quite nice if i do say so myself. Well..then again I don't really know nothin' bout forges. So tis a fine forge to me!" Locke then noticed that the yellow coated mare had a very finely crafted suit of armor on.

Locke had to admit, he did feel a bit weak compared to her and her armor. "Ahhh. Picking up yerself some armor then are you? I've never been here before but I gotta say, this seems like a amazing place to pick up your armor." Locke gave both of the mares a smile before turning his head to Regal. He tipped his hat to her. "Mah apologies Miss....?" He tilted his head in question to her before continuing on. "I am Locke Wind. Though I just go by Locke. Archaeologist!" He then turned to the yellow coated mare and tipped his hat to her as well. "Didn think I'd forget ya then didja?" He laughed a bit. The talkative stallion finally decided he was done talking.

“Well, good morning Regal!”

Beaming brightly, Sugar Star took in her surroundings – this shop had some really impressive pieces lining the walls. So many pristine and shining samples of excellent smith-work! The mare scanned every wall of the shop before turning back to face the smith, just in time to catch her indicating towards the counter…oh! There was another display! Sugar had completely overlooked the counter, and probably wouldn’t have ever noticed it – she was simply too distracted by the walls!

“Thanks!” the golden pegasus chimed, feeling a swell of pride when the other mare addressed her as ‘Equestria’s Finest.’ Even though she had a good chunk of time as an REA enlist under her belt, the energetic mare still cherished the rush she felt whenever her position was recognized. ‘Equestria’s Finest’ was right! The ponies she had gotten to know in the Canterlot barracks for the REA were some of the kindest and most dedicated folks she had ever known, and each of them had a fierce love for their rulers and their home. She looked up to a great many of them, and knowing that they stood together in the same armour, well – it made Sugar Star one happy pony!

Closing the gap between herself and the counter, Sugar immediately felt her heart skip a beat. What lovely work! They seemed like they were made by a delicate hoof – something the pegasus wouldn’t have expected of a smith, truth be told. How very presumptuous of her, and how happy she was to be wrong! Seeing the fine detailing of the jewelry, she knew she had come to the right place – this anniversary gift was going to be one her parents would always cherish, she just knew it!

"… Ahhh. Picking up yerself some armor then are you? I've never been here before but I gotta say, this seems like a amazing place to pick up your armor. I am Locke Wind. Though I just go by Locke. Archaeologist! Didn think I'd forget ya then didja?"

Sugar Star turned around to look at the stallion who entered the shop when she heard the bell ring and smiled at him in greeting. He seemed like quite the character, and had a fascinating outfit on! It looked something like what Daring Do would wear!

“Hah! Hi Locke the Archaeologist! The name’s Sugar Star,” the mare extended her hoof to the dark-hued stallion, “But I’m actually not here for armour – the REA gear is all smithed and supplied for us! Actually-”

Sugar cut herself off and turned to face Regal, finally, before continuing, “I’m here to talk about a commission for a decorative shield, if you’re taking anything on at the moment!”

Regal could barely contain her excitement as the golden mare peered around her humble little shop with a big smile. This was going to definitely be a most wonderful day! Just then the bells on the door sounded again and a bit of an odd stallion entered.

"Ello there! Sorry if I was interruptin', I was just moving along an I noticed ya forge here. Tis quite nice if I do say so myself. Well..then again I don't really know nothin' bout forges. So tis a fine forge to me!"

Regal couldn't believe her luck, she had barely opened and already two new customers had come through her door! At this rate she'd be swimming in bits by the end of the day. Of course that was only if she was a good salesmare and got to selling! "Welcome good sir; my name is Regal Steel, but you may call me Regal." Regal said warmly, smiling brightly. "I would be happy to help you in any way I can as soon as I am finished with," She paused to recall the mare's name from the two customers introductions, "Miss Sugar Star."

“I’m here to talk about a commission for a decorative shield, if you’re taking anything on at the moment!”

The unicorn could not help but smile brighter at this news! "Wonderful, I am currently accepting commissions!"" Regal exclaimed and hopped over to the counter. "Now I'll need details and dimension" She said as she magically lifted a quill and paper.
