The Temporary Elements

Monochrome

Nightshade seemed very wary of the group. It was understandable, she likely didn't know any of them, and he was pretty sure he had never seen her before. He could certainly take care of himself in a fight, but he wasn't sure about the others. It didn't really matter, since they had the elements, and he could protect anypony who can't fight.

The dragon mentioned that there was evil in the world, waiting to strike. They should go find this evil before it hurts innocents. Winter questioned Monochrome about her fall, asking if she was okay.

"Now that we have these elements, what should we do?" Pyro asked to anypony who wanted to answer.

Monochrome nodded and gave an embarrassed half-grin.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Things like that happen to me all the time." she said.

She looked over at Pyro when he spoke.

"I dunno, go find some evil butt to kick?" Monochrome replied with a shrug.

Pyro shrugged at Monochrome's response. Winter spoke next, making it snow a bit. Apparently it had been an accident, as she had apologized for it.

"Sounds good to me." Pyro said, demonstrating his own magic by creating some fire briefly in front of him.

Monochrome looked at her unicorn companions, who now appeared to be exhibiting their abilities. Unable to use magic and barely able to fly correctly, Monochrome simply shuffled her paint-splattered hooves and gave her silvery wings a self-conscious flutter. After that her attention began to wander again, and she heard something, very faint but still audible- a calm, hypnotic tune drifting from somewhere. ((Think the original Lavender Town theme from pokemon)) Mesmerized, Monochrome followed it.

Pyro watched, his head tilted slightly, as Monochrome and Winter walked off. Monochrome seemed entranced by something, and Winter was eventually caught up in it too.

Night voiced the question running through his head. Where were those two going? He supposed he might as well follow them. The elements were supposed to stick together after all. As he followed the two, he started hearing faint music. Where was that coming from?

The haunting melody slowly, steadily grew easier to hear, its simple, clock-like tune keeping a constant beat that Monochrome seemed to walk in time to.

Tik-tok, tik-tok, tik-tok, tik-tok...

The ponies pushed through thick foliage, only to behold a strange sight. The clearing they found held an old, sleepy-looking little town. It was quiet other than the sounds of nature and the eerie melody in the air.

Pyro gazed around at what he could see of the town. The music floated through the air from some unknown source. Winter questioned where they were, but Monochrome looked to be too entranced by the music to provide a response.

"I don't know. I've never heard of any towns that were abandoned, like this one appears to be." Pyro said, looking around again. They were the only ponies he could see.

"Where is that music coming from....doesn't sound natural" NightShade followed but kept her distance all the while looking around for the source of the hypnotic music

Monochrome came to a halt in front of a stone tower towards the back of the town. This tower was old, much like the rest of the odd town, and was very tall. It had an eerie feel to it. Monochrome slowly pushed the door open and wandered inside.

Inside, they found neat rows of stones with names etched into them- a graveyard. There was a stone stairway leading upwards to the next floors, where the music seemed to be drifting from.

Pyro followed Monochrome and Winter into the tower. There seemed to be some kind of graveyard on the ground floor, and the music was coming from higher up. This didn't sit right with him, something was wrong. He peeked up the stairs before somewhat cautiously climbing them. He wanted to find the source of this music. Either he could just shut down the source, or he could talk to anypony that might be up there to see what was going on.

Monochrome walked slowly up the stairs ahead of everypony. The next floor was similar to the first- a cemetery, but with more ornate gravestones and tombs. Monochrome wove her way around the straight rows of stone markers, towards another flight of stairs. She didn't appear to take a moment to ponder what she was following, and didn't even seem to realize where she was as she trotted onwards. The music grew louder as the group ascended, slowly becoming more recognizable as piano music. The next floor was a bit shabbier than the last two, with its rows of stones uneven and crumbling, although these stones appeared to have once been high-class, ornate, and covered with fine detail at some time long ago. Another flight of stairs waited across this floor, making the ponies other than Monochrome wonder just how many floors were past this one. Monochrome still didn't seem to notice anything eerie as she nearly tripped over a bone sticking out of the ground.

Monochrome was ahead of him the entire time, but she didn't seem to be in control of her actions. It was like the music had entranced her to the point that she had no control over herself. He followed her through the various levels of graveyard, wondering when they would reach the source of the piano music. He followed Monochrome closely, not wanting her to get into trouble without somepony there to react immediately to the situation.

Monochrome approached the next set of stairs, which was a bit unsettling to the others, as a skull rested at its base, grinning eerily up at them. Monochrome seemed to take no notice of this. She climbed the stairs. They finally seemed to be at the final floor when they reached the top. A path down the middle of the room lead to two simple gravestones and a piano- at which sat two white fillies, hitting the precise keys to produce the haunting melody that floated from the piano. They did not turn around, or even give any clue they had noticed the ponies at all, and continued to play. Monochrome had come to a halt, swaying in time to the beat of the song.

Tik tik tok tik, tik tik tok tik.

Winter's horn starts to glow softly slowly getting b the closer they get to the source of the music. "Hmmmm hmmm hmmmm hmmmm" Winter hums the sound of it as her eyes dull slightly. (Like fade ...) As she walks, the floor under them creaks and a slight snapping sound can be heard.

The fillies at the piano whirled around to face the ponies, but something was odd... Their faces were unrecognizable, blurred and distorted like a smudged photo. They then disappeared, and the music stopped. Monochrome blinked a few times, then glanced about dizzily.

"Uh... Could somepony kindly inform me where the hay we are?" she said, confused.

However, before anypony could answer her, the sound of splintering wood caught their attention. The small area of grass around the two gravestones by the piano trembled for a moment, before a hoof shoved its way through the patch of earth.

They eventually made it to the piano, which was being played by two white ponies. Winter seemed to fall under the spell of the music as well. Not long after, the fillies turned and showed their faces. Or not, where the faces should be was some kind of blurry spot, like a bad photograph. The two dissapeared and the music abruptly cut off immediately after. Monochrome came to and asked where she was. It seemed she didn't remember the trip.

He opened his mouth to answer her, but the words died in his throat when the sound of wood splintering reached his ears. He closed his mouth and looked over towards the piano as a hoof shoved itself out of one of the graves. "What is going on around here? First there's strange music, now there's ponies coming out of graves." Pyro said, keeping a close eye on the hoof sticking out of the ground.

As the hoof shoves out of the ground winter's horn starts to glow as well as her element. "When they arrive all fall under there spell, but when they leave....all will fall and die" she gasps fainting as her horn and element glow
