History: Conundrum was born to two partners in crime, Mr. Puzzle Solver, a detective, and Ms. Seeker, a prosecutor. The two of them worked tirelessly in many cases involving many different things that called the two pair into the courtroom. They met during a case that involved a murder and became partners a little while after. Puzzle and Seeker were very strong together, able to get the guilty verdict on many cases. It was on a pleasant fall afternoon when the second biggest event of their lives happened. The two were working on a case that involved a stolen object and a pony with a history for stealing as the suspect. The two had their faces close together and it was on that day, over a single inventory form, that the partners kissed and married about three years after.

Then the third biggest moment of their lives came around. Conundrum was born during a harsh winter storm, in the city of Trottingham. The parents were very excited for their little foal, their little bundle of joy, to meet the world. When Seeker had looked outside, she noticed that the snow storm was quite the predicament outside. In fact one could say it was a conundrum. That was how Seeker had named her beautiful baby boy, by looking at the lovely snow that covered the ground, and would make things difficult for anypony to want to try and slide around on. It was actually due to all the snow that Trottingham got that caused the family to move to Canterlot.

Conundrum was never allowed inside of court rooms, around the office when there were pieces of evidence in there, or at any scene of the crimes his parents wanted. It was at this point though that he wanted to learn how to become a prosecutor, so he could do those things, and he learned from both his mother, and a couple of books, how to be a debater.

With these skills he could easily win any argument that he could get himself into, but what good was this gift? Well the foal would soon find out. Later on in class the next day, they were supposed to talk about their views on apple production in Canterlot, through a debate.

Apple farms weren’t very common in Canterlot. Actually there aren’t many farms of anything in Canterlot. Recently something that was asked in schools was if we needed more of them. The debate was very similar to a trial in court. You had to take one side of the argument, and give reasons why you support it using evidence and logic to try and change somepony’s opinion on the subject. Conundrum took the side of not wanting farms in canterlot. Using logic to pinpoint that not only would it be difficult to try since they didn’t have much fertile soil, but by also stating that there was enough orchards in other places that Canterlot didn’t need one. While not being the most supported of his arguments, it was strong enough to earn him his cutie mark, a speech bubble with an exclamation mark in it, to show his talents of persuading and projecting his point.

You would believe that at this time, Conundrum would do his best to help his fellow students try and earn their cutie marks, and you would be partially correct. Conundrum believed himself to be superior to his classmates since he was one of the first to get his cutie mark. He told them what they should do, and gave them advice on the subject when he himself had no idea how to actually acquire every single cutie mark for every single pony. He kept up this charade of knowing what to do until his mother was told about the incident through another mom of another student. She sat him down and told him about the rights and wrongs of everypony. She told him that he was to believe in the truth, help to justify it, and tell the 100% honest truth if he ever wanted to be like her.

It wasn’t long until the little colt grew into a young Stallion and entered the wonderful world of law school. He learned many of the inner and outer workings of prosecuting. He learned of how many police and Royal Equestrian guard members worked together on the scene of the crime. He learned of the meaning of evidence and how to define if it was important to the crime, and he learned the dark truth of a prosecutor. It was the goal of the prosecutor to prove the defendant guilty, even if he/she was actually innocent. He didn’t learn this from a professor, but from many records of previous cases in a book he needed for the class. At first he believed that he would prove this wrong. That maybe he could help define the truth with the defense attorney. Maybe if they worked together they both could find the real culprit, whether it be the defendant or not.

After a few years of being an attorney though he forgot all about his promise to himself. When he started out he tried his best to do what he said that day but he found more often than not that some of the defendants seemed very guilty, even when they were innocent. However he began to realize that he got a lot more money from getting guilty verdicts, and the money was very nice. Yes, it was indeed something that he would want more of. As somepony who needed to fill up his very regal office and charming house, he could use.

All that he had in his occupation, in his honor, in his very being was all thrown away by that ONE MARE! Her name was Phoenix Down and at first she was nothing but an insignificant fly that needed to be squashed. She was quite sassy and often gave rude remarks to those prosecuting her cases. Conundrum simply ignored her, focusing on things that were more important and called for his attention more.

Then she came back, quick as a flash, with a new partner by her side. She started doing something that Conundrum never expected of her; she started WINNING! There wasn't a single prosecutor that could beat her, though Conundrum blamed this on the prosecutors. There should never have been a single defense attorney to beat a prosecutor. Then in one case he found out she was defending. He figured himself to be easily beat her and yet…he lost. How could he have lost to her? She was nothing compared to him. This sparked a heated rivalry between the two attorneys, one that has yet to end and haunts the courtroom to this day.

Character Summary: Conundrum is intelligent and fair from being considered uncouth. He is very greedy and will do a lot of things for money. That being said he is also stingy with material objects. While he doesn’t show it much in the courtroom, he is very kind to foals, due to the reminder of his mother’s words. He is very loving towards his family, and any of their acquaintances. In fact the mention of either of his parents’ names can change his attitude towards somepony for a short while. This may be due to how much he misses them, since they moved back to Trottingham. He enjoys staying clean and doesn’t like to go anywhere dirty.

Conundrum hates losing, and being told that he is wrong. He can’t stand it when somepony tells him that what he believes his false and will continue to tell you that he is right, or say something else to cover for his mistake. He enjoys home-cooked foods, and while he isn’t the worst cook in the world, he isn’t very good at it. Despite what his regal personality, his favorite food is hay fries. He does not approve of slang words being used in a conversation or words that are pronounced wrong. He especially doesn't like being tricked and can’t stand being used.
