Mane/Tail: Mulberry, with red streaks. Her mane is cut straight, shorter near the back and long in front. It tends to fall dramatically over one eye. Her tail is also straight, and is on the short side, only reaching her knees.

Physique: A little small for a filly her age

Residence: Home is in Itaily, but she’s currently staying with her cousin near Ponyville

Occupation: Student, decorator at her parents’ sweet shop

Cutie Mark: paintbrush and palette

Motivation: She wants to become a famous artist someday, and have her own gallery in Roam.

Likes: painting almost anything, watching sunsets, hoof-pulling taffy, ridiculously detailed cake decorating, visiting museums and art galleries, eating warm cookies right out of the oven, her family

Dislikes: doing her homework, wearing frilly dresses, early bedtimes, young colts, accidentally drinking her paintbrush water

History: Marzipan was born to Farratelle, a pegasus, and Spumoni, a unicorn, in Roam, Itaily. They own and operate a little sweet shop there, so she was raised underhoof among the candies and customers. Her parents had hoped she would take an interest in the family business, but from an early age it became clear that her first love would be art. She started by rearranging the sweets on the shelves in pleasing color arrangements. Then she began to help decorate the little tea cakes and biscuits. At school, she would spend her time doodling in the margins of her papers. Arts and crafts time was always her favorite, and her teacher almost always had to lock up the supply cabinet to keep her from sneaking into it at recess. Her parents encouraged her talents, buying her paints and brushes and giving her the afternoons off from the shop so she could paint. She still helped out in the mornings before school, decorating the little cakes.

Last summer she saw a flyer for an art competition to be held in the town square. She was so excited, her parents gladly entered her in the juvenile category. She spent a week working on a still life in watercolor, carefully planning each brush stroke. When the big day came, she won second place in her age group, and got her cutie mark. She was so happy!

Character Summary: Marzipan is a quiet, daydreamy sort of filly. She is happiest when she’s working on a painting, but she’s just as happy helping out at her family’s shop. She’s got a few friends back home, mostly creative types like her. She currently lives at her cousin Snickerdoodle’s house, and goes to school in Ponyville as an exchange student. Snickerdoodle works in the rainbow department at the weather factory in Cloudsdale, and teaches Marzipan everything she knows about color theory and pigment mixing.

While she paints, she wears an old pair of Snickerdoodle’s color spattered coveralls with the legs rolled up. If she does have to wear something nice, she prefers simple skirts and plain tops. She enjoys hanging out with fillies her own age, but finds colts to be annoying. She also prefers doodling on her papers to actually doing her homework, but she knows that a good education is important if she wants to be successful in life. If it only weren’t so dull!

Her one sweet making skill, aside from decorating cakes, is hoof-pulling saltwater taffy. She enjoys mixing the colors and flavors, making bright pinwheels of sweet sticky goodness. It really draws the tourists in to her family shop in the summertime, and is a class favorite at her school.
