Honor Among Thieves (Lyi)

Clovis waited patiently outside of the house, well after the midnight hours to make sure that whoever was living inside had gone to sleep, a black cowl covering his face. He had received word from somewhere in the Guild that within this house lived a rather peculiar Earth Pony mare... however, it wasn't the mare that he was interested in. It was what he assumed was her weapon. An intimidating double-tipped staff with a blade on one end, and a torch on the other. Supposedly, it was also able to collapse from the middle and make it easily concealable, meaning that he may have to search hard for it. One thing the human had learned in his profession, it's that weapons were in considerably high demand... and unique ones such as the one he's currently targeting could be worth a fortune...

Once he was sure everything had quieted down, he crept out of his hiding place and towards the back door, quickly and easily using a lock pick to get it opened. He gritted his teeth and slowly opened the door just enough to allow him room to slip inside, before gently closing it behind him. All of this was done making virtually no sound at all. Taking a deep breath, he hid within whatever shadows he could find, his eyes scanning the house for any potential threats, or any other valuables the Guild would take an interest in.

Neria patted her staff, safely hidden beneath her jacket, as she walked through the dark streets.  She had a slight swagger in the steps, probably from one cider too many, though she would never admit it.   She was unusually dressed up for such a waking time in the dark morning:  Her layered 'emo-girl' hair was done up into a curly braid, and her magenta streak was bedazzled with a few pearls.  Her white polo shirt and black miniskirt were replaced by a pair of dressy pants and a lacey pink shirt.  Her jewelry seemed more refined-more befitting of a semi-formal evening party than an assassin.  Instead of colourful runners, she wore a pair of blood red pumps.

But it wasn't all for show, though.  She had indeed been at a semi-formal evening party, and indeed as an assassin on duty.  It had been easy-a simple anesthetic into the drink-a quick needle to stop the heart.  But this time, it disgusted her.  It had been like this for a while now, the joy of running around the city and being free long gone.  She was disgusted by the jobs she were given-how quickly life could be ended and how fragile it was.  It was nothing but a reminder to her of her own fragility~

So she had gone to the local bar, had a few (or a lot) ciders.  As she sauntered off home, she contemplated her fate.  Here to kill, here to die....this is the life...

And she tried to ignore the tears that streamed down her face.

After a quick sweep through the house, Clovis was able to confirm that no one was home... and this was indeed the perfect time to strike. He gently unzipped his black leather jacket, and out poked the head of a fully-grown fruit bat. It looked around for a moment, before giving a little squeak. "Go keep watch." Clovis whispered. Immediately, the bat crawled out of his jacket and flew across the living room, before landing near a window and poking her head out of the curtain. Giving a small sigh, the young human began to search through the house. He found a few things that would be considered valuable, which he quickly stuffed into the backpack he carried with him. However, the so-called collapsible staff he had heard about was nowhere to be seen. After nearly ten minutes of thorough searching, he began to get a bit frustrated. "Come on... where is it...?" He groaned, his heart pounding within his chest.

Suddenly, the bat that he had ordered to keep watch gave a loud screech to get the human's attention, before flying about his head.

"Hey! What's wrong?" Clovis asked, and the bat responded by nudging him towards the window. The human sighed and opened the curtain just enough to allow him to see outside... before gasping as he noticed the darkly-colored mare walking dangerously close to the house...

"Oh no... You couldn't have warned me earlier?!" He demanded, the bat only looking down innocently. Clovis sighed and snatched her up, before holding her to his chest and looking around frantically. There was no time to try and escape, as she was already too close. He had to hide and hope for the best. Immediately, he ran into the bedroom and quickly shut himself in the closet, his heart pounding heavily within his chest. The female bat nestled within his jacket, giving a small squeak.

"Shhh..." Clovis said gently, waiting for the mare to come in. Hopefully he had chosen a good enough hiding space... she looked drunk enough that she may just pass out as soon as she got inside.
