AsthmaticPegasus
Name: ClearcutSex: MaleAge: stallionSpecies:UnicornPicture: http://imageshack.us...37/mypony2.png/ Cutie Mark: His cutie mark is a plate of glass with a heart and a star etched into it. Residence Manehattan Origin: Clearcut was originally born in Canterlot to a stay at home mother and a father who traveled across Equestria as an entertainer. For the first couple years of his life he was raised solely by his mother in a small house near the outskirts of Canterlot. She would work while he went off to school, earning enough bits to get by until Clearcut's father stopped by on an annual visit, where he would give them most of his earnings. He wouldn't be able to stay for very long, or visit very often, but when he did he tried to act as Fatherly as he could. Even with his father's efforts, however, he was mostly a stranger to the young colt.Anyways, because Clearcut was raised by his mother she spent a lot of time playing with him and raising him as a good mother should. He excelled in his schoolwork, and proved to be a very smart boy, but he was always shy when it came to spending time with all of the other children. It could be attributed to how he lived a reasonable distance away from other children, and thus in pseudo-isolation, or the fact that he saw even his own father as a stranger. It certainly didn't help that he never got his cutie mark until later in his life. While his meek personality wasn't too urgent at the time, it certainly affected how he acted growing up.After a while, and during a particularly busy winter, Clearcut's mother began to grow exhausted from her motherly duties and tiring work. She would sleep a lot of the time, and was drowsy when she was awake. Eventually, in her weakened state, she succumbed to a severe illness the likes of which no doctor (that they could afford) could determine. She got worse everyday, and Clearcut spent all of his time next to her bed trying to make her more comfortable. He didn't even leave the house for several days, which is how long it took his father to return from whatever he was doing across equestria at the time.Despite their best efforts she succumbed to her illness, much to the woe and despair of Clearcut. After his mother's death he was forced to travel equestria with his father, helping out with shows and having to move constantly. His father tried to bond with the still young, but emotionally damaged child, but Clearcut was as shy as ever and never really got on with him that well. His father tried to show him entertaining, how to act, sing, and put on a good show, but Clearcut never became interested and distanced himself from his dads profession. After traveling and spending time with the troop, Clearcut did start to immerse himself in art. He seemed to enjoy the intricacies of it, and began painting and drawing. He became exposed to more and more art as he traveled, finding interests in sculpting especially. He began making backdrops and set pieces for his fathers act, finding ways to contribute and becoming slightly more social. One time when they were travelling through Fillydelphia Clearcut saw a glass blower molding molten glass into odd shapes and unique designs. After spending an afternoon observing his technique Clearcut asked the stallion to show him a little but of glass molding. He happily obliged and showed the young colt some methods, different ways of making different shapes. This medium above all others hooked Clearcut's attention, and he continued to practice it. During a particularly large show of his father's, Clearcut made an ornate setpiece meant as a gift for his father. When the colt gave his father the sculpture they both noticed that his cutie mark appeared, and with much joy in his heart Clearcut's father thanked his son and put on the best show possible. After Several more years Clearcut left his father behind, sad to leave but happy to start his own independant life. With a final gift of money from his father Clearcut opened up a small shop in Manehattan, a bussling city full of possibility. From within he would craft glass artwork, and sell it to anyone who would buy. He gained a small reputation and began crafting custom pieces, and even brought a piece or two across equestria occasionally. He continues to work hard, but he still remains shy and reserved. Occupation: Spends his time making ornate pottery and sculptures out of molten glass. He owns a small shop in Manehattan Motivation: Clearcut would eventually like to get noticed and gain a large following, as would any artist. He has large aspirations for himself, though he doesn't feel like he can meet them.

SunsetSombra
Hey, just took a good ol' look at the application, and you're almost at a good point to be passed on, but there was just one thing I figured I should mention. After a while, and during a particularly busy winter, Clearcut's mother began to grow exhausted from her motherly duties and tiring work. He didn't even leave the house for several days, which is how long it took his father to return from whatever he was doing across equestria at the time.Personally, I think perhaps a little too much focus was given on the death of the mother, giving a somewhat grim tone - perhaps it'd be a little more theme friendly if you cut that back more as just a passing mention of her death overall, rather than bringing it in as a full focus. For the most part, however, I'd say the application is good to go! Edited January 9, 2012 by Robikku Pegasus
AsthmaticPegasus
Well, it is a very serious moment which had a large impact on Clearcut's life. It IS supposed to be a little dark and sad. Is the change totally required? Because I feel like it's an important moment that would feel awkward to just glaze over
