CharacterSummary:

Applewood was born in Solstice Heights to Maplewood and Smokey Maple, two ponies dealing in cooking! Her mother, Maplewood, actually harvested maple syrup, which was often sent to various candy shops and grocery stores across Equestria. She often made it herself, thinning it out, adding sugar, and sometimes even getting creative with flavors. Though it was often considered a 'bottom shelf' syrup, some fame was better than none at all, and the family certainly wasn't worse off for it.

Her father, Smokey Maple, handled the stove side of things. He taught his daughter how to properly cook produce and soy products. He also taught her which flora was good for food, how to make decent sandwiches, soups, stews, and get familiar with certain spices and herbs.

On her own, she experimented at first with salads and assorted fruits, mostly breakfast items with yogurt and the like. But as time passed, she became extremely familiar with the workings of the kitchen. Her tongue was like a bloodhound, able to identify almost anything down to the slightest hint of a condiment or spice used as she ate. As her tastes and creative mind expanded, so did her ingredients and meal choices. Eventually she insisted that she cook for herself to get practice!

But she wanted more. She knew the things she prepared were good, but she wanted to show her family! She wanted to share her creations with those she loved! So, one day, while both parents were working, she took it upon herself to make dinner. She made a stew of broth, melted cheeses, garlic, onions, potatoes, carrots, and finally turnips. She always wanted to try using turnips, having been told by her father that the root was fabulous in soups. After a brief moment of consideration, she added some basil for flavor, and was at last finished!

By the time her parents came to investigate the smells, their daughter had already set the table, grinning from ear to ear and hopping about with excitement. The two adults just looked at each other and shrugged. It didn't look burnt, so it couldn't be that bad. Though throughout the evening as they ate, they found they rather loved what their daughter had prepared! They asked what she used, how she did it, and if she had any other plans with it! Though once finished, they both complimented her meal rather generously. 'Restaurant quality' they said! Hearing the both of them say that, her two role models and mentors of the culinary arts, nearly brought her to tears with absolute, unbridled joy. When they shared an embrace, they also shared a great moment of surprise and triumph as her cutie mark appeared!

Ever since then, she worked tirelessly to master the kitchen and food. She grew quite a reputation at school whenever she brought in one of her latest culinary masterpieces for lunch, or even shared home-made pastries with her class! As she grew, so did her skill. She always experimented with new things, tried new combinations! She is always bold in the kitchen, just as an artist is bold in the studio. She currently lives on her own in Solstice Heights, working as the head chef of a local fine restaurant, receiving a rating of 3 stars (not because of the food, because of the atmosphere and service!).

Applewood is perfectly content with her position and is happy in the kitchen, though she always keeps her eyes open for new opportunities.
