The Spell That Shook Solstice Heights (PM to join)

Whisperpaw, a pure black unicorn stallion had gone out for the evening to help some bunnies fix their collapsed burrow. Midnight sun, a blue paint foal without any sign of a cutie mark, who happened to be his younger cousin, agreed that she would stay at home and not leave under no circumstances. The foal wasn't the least bit bothered about being left home alone. She had gotten used to her cousin's habbits after living with him for over a month. She understood that it was his job to help out animals and so she accepted that she would spend some time home alone.

The foal wasn't exactly home alone. She had Whisperpaw's owl hooting quietly on his perch for company. She also had her border collie puppy, Sunset, to keep her company. On top of that, the foal had also borrowed a rather old magic book from the library. Unlike her cousin, Midnight Sun tended to use magic throughout her every day life. Her magic was more powerful at night and the sun was already starting to set. She was supposed to be asleep, but she was so eager to practice some night time magic before star gazing.

Midnight Sun opened the magic book. Dust rose up from the book and into the air around her. She coughed until the dust had settled. The foal began to flick through the pages of the book. She stopped on a page that intrigued her. It was about a spell that would change dreams into reality. Remembering a dream about swimming in books, the temptation was just too great for the foal. And so she cast the spell without taking a moment to think about the consiquences for not only her but the other ponies of Solstice Heights.

What would she find when she opened her bed room door? Nopony could expect what was just about to happen.

Midnight Sun shielded her eyes as she opened her bed room door. The light was far too bright for the foal. Perhaps she didn't do the spell quite right. She didn't want to be blinded by light. She tried to exit the cottage, but she couldn't see. Her eyes were sore from the brightness that she had exposed her eyes to. She began to think that it was a bad idea picking out an adult spell book when she was still learning basic magic.

A thick cloud of purple mist had completely covered the cottage by the time she had opened her eyes. The foal didn't quite understand what went wrong. She decided that there and then, she would leave the cottage and search for her older cousin. But, he could only use animal healing aura magic. He couldn't even levatate a book if he tried. Still, any help was better than no help at all. As she tried to find her way to the front door, Midnight Sun ran head first into the wall. She sat on the floor rubbing her head with her hoof. She could her the sound of Sunset barking and the sound of Whisperpaw's owl hooting. But she couldn't see them.

As the mist slowly began to fade, Midnight Sun could see what looked like the outline of a book. How could it be possible? She left The Book Of Spooks in her bed room. This certainly wasn't her bed room. She was in the living room. Midnight Sun rubbed her eyes in disbelief. Yet the book was still there. She touched it with her hoof. It felt like a normal hard back book. She used her magic to levatate the book so she could get a clear view of it. It was titled "A History Of Magic". Midnight Sun never borrowed this book from the library before. In fact, she'd never even seen this strange book before. Was the spell working?

Suddenly the floor changed texture. It felt rough in places and smooth in others. Looking down closely, she gould just about make out that she was stood on a floor completely made out of a messy pile of books. They were in her favourite genres. Though the mist was still there it was still fading, making it easier for her to see her own surroundings. Midnight Sun began to swim in the books like she would swim in the sea. Life never felt sweeter than that moment in time. Then she knew that the spell she cast had worked.

Once the mist had completely cleared, Midnight Sun saw another pony in the house. She immediatly recognised the pony to be her mother. But could it be the same pony; the one who had sent her away to live with her cousin for the rest of her foalhood? It looked exactly like her the last time Midnight Sun had seen her. The last time Midnight Sun saw her mother was when her mother was packing Midnight Sun's Saddlebags, back in Manehattan. It had been such a long time. The foal had really missed her mother ever so dearly.

"Mother! I've missed you so much!" Midnight Sun spoke as she raced over to the pony and hugged her. Her mother didn't reply. She simply smiled warmly.

It was odd. The pony looked like her mother, but she refused to speak or move from the spot where she was stood. All she did was stand and smile. The foal realised that this wasn't really her mother. This was just a part of the magic spell she had cast. This pony was nothing but an illusion created by magic. Her smile faded as she began to slowly walk away from the pony she once believed was her mother. Midnight Sun had got her hopes up, thinking that she was finally going to be taken back to her home in Manehattan. But that just wasn't the case.

As she walked away towards the window of the cottage, Midnight Sun spotted a shooting star. She loved shooting stars. The foal's smile returned as the sky seemed to rain harmless shooting stars. She continued to look up to the skies, watching the beautiful sight in the dark sky above her. As she looked up, she could make out clouds in the sky. They were taking the shapes of animals, food items and toys. Midnight Sun loved every second of the beauty going on so high up in the air. She enjoyed it so much that she had forgotten that she had cast a spell that had created such beauty.

'I bet even Whisperpaw will be watching the sky tonight. It, it looks amazing! I wish he'd hurry up and finish helping out those bunnies and their collapsed home. But if he rushed his job, then the bunnies wouldn't be very happy and if they weren't very happy neither would Whisperpaw... I'll see him when he gets back in his own time.' Midnight Sun thought to her self.

Midnight Sun was gazing out of the window when she was startled by a loud bang. The foal sharply turned around. As she did, she saw pages from a book, bursting into flames as they floated gently to the ground. When they landed, what was left of them was merely ashes. She saw another book rise up from the pile and explode before her eyes. Like the other book, the pages burst into flames before turning into ashes. Midnight Sun screamed and ran off to hide behind her mother.

Something was wrong. Did she make a mistake? She was certain that she had pulled off the spell perfectly. But the exploding books began to cause a sense of doubt and shame to her. What did she do wrong? Did she force on too much magic intensity at the wrong time? At least her illusion mother was providing a safety shield for the foal.

Suddenly the mare turned to face Midnight Sun. Her eyes were a demonic shade of red. This wasn't what they usually looked like. Fangs suddenly sprouted of the sides of her mouth. Her expression was disgusted as if she hated the sight of her only child. Her mane turned grey and began to glow. Soon, her tail did the same. The mare rubbed her daughter's head in a patronising manner. Her hoof slowly slipped down under Midnight Sun's chin in order to lift the foal's head up. A rather ominous grin appeared on the mare's face as she inhaled heavily.

"You sicken me with your childish ways. You call yourself a unicorn. You are a disgrace! I'm glad you have a goody, goody, for a cousin. You want to know why? Its because I can't stand your presence in my home. You belong with all of the filth around here! I never loved you." Her mother hissed.

Midnight Sun's eyes flooded with tears. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her mother hated her. She was just using Whisperpaw like a tool in order to free herself from her only child. The foal wanted it all to end. She had forgotten that the mare who stood before her wasn't real. The words she had heard were too hurtful. The foal was insecure when it came down to her mother's feelings about her. Midnight Sun had always feared that one day her mother would stop loving her. So those words were simply heart breaking.

Suddenly, everything went dark. Midnight Sun looked up. She carefully avoided the exploding books as she trotted towards the window. Upon looking out of the window, the foal noticed that the stars had disappeared and so had the clouds. The moon had also vanished. Suddenly, without warning, meteors began to shoot out of the sky, burning a bright light into the atmosphere. Midnight Sun's eyes widened. What was she going to do? She didn't know how to stop the meteors.
