Character Summary:

Our tale starts when a small foal and his father wandered into the Forest of Madness, completely unaware of what danger it posed to those who did not come prepared. The dad had ignored the rumors and legends, having confidence in his own abilities of magic and darkness. He thought that it posed no threat, and in a way he was right. The forest wasn’t able to attack him directly, but instead used illusion and mysticism to lure his son deeper and deeper until the foal became absolutely lost, no way of finding his way back and unable to reach his parent. The father was unable to rend apart the apparitions of the forest in order to reach his son, even though his own experience kept him safe. The foal had become trapped within the insanity of that infamous place, falling between the cracks of sanity.

The foal slowly became corrupted by the insanity of the Forest, his memories being torn from him one by one until there was nothing left of his past life, he didn’t even know his own name. All he knew was that he was young, he was a Pegasus, and he was incredibly lonely. Now, the natural solution to a child’s loneliness is usually to come up with some sort of imaginary friend, but with the influence of the Forest his imaginary friend developed into a split personality. A rather malevolent split personality that had also become corrupted by the Forest. His own personality evolved to a stark contrast of the maniacal and crazy of his new one, and the two regularly fought for control. His sanity was fighting a losing battle.

Time passed, and the little pegasus’ mind continued to deteriorate until he came upon the great and powerful Applestia, who took pity on the lost foal and granted his mind balance. She didn’t have the means to care for him more directly, but gave him guidance and peace. His sane, foalish side pledged its loyalty to her cause, but he still continued onward in search of an identity. Amused, she called the young one Peggly-Sus, since his species was the only part of his identity that remained intact.

The newly named Peggly-Sus eventually stumbled upon the more potent, and much more chaotic inner parts of the Forest. There he found the God of Mania, Fawkes, who thought that Peggly’s story was entertaining and sought to bring the child under his wing. He gave him a purpose, having him serve the Madmen tea and prepare food for them. This is also when Peggly found his cutie mark, a tea cup symbolizing his readiness to serve and follow as well as his skill at making wonderful tea and pastries. However, with the discovery of Peggly’s split mind and the realization that Applestia had already earned the trust of the foal, Fawkes sought to control the insane and manic side of his mind. He used a special poison to give this side power, keeping the sane part subdued, and was able to bring the crazed foal under his control.

The poison worked a little too well, weakening the balance which Applestia had given Peggly and breaking apart his mind, and dividing it into even more parts. The now even more fragmented Peggly found himself identifying with all those he met with different parts of his mind. He came to know Aria, the princess of the forest, befriending her at the Table of Madmen that she visited regularly, and Davroth, ruler of Germaney because of his occasional visits. He also started spending more time with Fawkes’ “brother” Penumbra, the God of Dementia telling the pegasus foal of great battles which he had participated in, and often pretended to go through them again with Peggly. The foal saw him almost as a father figure, or perhaps an uncle. Peggly’s imaginative side, which was originally served each other part of his mind, also began to fracture when he began to dream of a strange being called “Imagination” which promised to grant his creative side power in return for his trust and servitude. The small foal accepted with the hope that this would perhaps balance out his mind, but it only split it further when the creative Peggly developed into its own personality. This creative side continued to be influenced by this “Imagination” both in dreams and when awake.

Overall Peggly found himself enjoying the Forest, even with all of the chaos going on in his head and each personality fighting the others for dominance in his brain. He moves from place to place in the forest, keeping his loyalties with all he can. He even visits Applestia occasionally to keep his promises.
