History:

Basira was born into a simple family of Fisher-horses who supplied fish for transport out to Aquellia. Even in her youth, the filly had proved to be a scholar in the making; Usually locking herself up in her room at night to fill her mind with the knowledge of all the books she would save up to buy through the weeks in her life. The books of stories collected from all across her land were always her favorites... and one of the things that drove her to begin her digs and searches for many of the lost treasures and traces of the stories and magnificent sights that made her favorite stories so fantastic.

As She grew the mare proved to have a lust for knowledge and an ambition that had her land herself into a position among one of the many notable schools of education in Dufly. Thanks to her own ambition and assistance from her parents back down at the shores.

Eventually though, this love of knowledge came to  inspire her to explore her homeland further and much more intensely than others in her culture had before. Many exploratory and archaeological exploits all around the deserts, mountains and islands that make up her homeland on the maps. Through her many exploits she has made many discoveries that have been shared with the intellectual communities all across Saddle Arabia and even some beyond. Her discoveries in Saddle Arabia had already gained the attention of some Equestrian scholars as well; one of which having lead her to very interesting events; including two foals that have of this time left for Equestria to make their mark on the world there.

Then came the time of Debate. The previous Sultan’s ten years were ending a new one was to be chosen unanimously by the most promising candidates in the land. Basira's accomplishments in various fields of study among the highest scholars in Dufly had brought her hear... that and the good will she had with other tribes across the land who had thought their tribes ancient history to be gone from them forever.

The talks were incredibly intense, long winded debates that were almost as physically exhausting as it was mentally to speak of the future path of a land as great as Saddle Arabia. The Debate went on even longer than it's usual time thanks to the many promising candidates. Many stallions and mares grew heated and at some points lashed out which only made them realize how they were not ready for this position. It was in the end only Basira who proved both cool headed and knowledgeable about the cultures and histories of their land and had eaned the favor of almost all of the inhabitants in the land… it was decided that She would be the Sultan.

Character Summary:

Affable and wise is good way to Describe the Sultan. Her love of the knowledge and value of historical and cultural treasure are very well documented. The few times she has ever been known to lose her temper is when discoveries are damaged or broken by irresponsible behavior on anyone’s part… and doing so on purpose is enough to rapidly get you out of her favor. Besides her love of archaeology, She has proven to be fond of martial arts as well. But instead of those who practice it as a form of self defense, she does it primarily as a form of meditation to calm and focus her mind; with all the responsibilities she has been having thrust upon her since taking her place in Manephis it has proven to be incredibly helpful. Part of what has spurred her interest in archaeology since she was a small horse was the many legends passed around in her culture; A tale of one thousand and one nights of wonder.

Because of where she grew up and where she was born (the shores and ports of Dubfly); The Sultan has a very VERY low opinion of pirates and many ships or airships that leave her shores tend to have extra protection. The town of Puerto Aguila is often monitored and watched often and any city near water or that has been plagued by sky pirates in the past is usually subject to entire walls covered by wanted posters that are updated daily.

There are many things that Basira has learned to do in her life but some skills she seemed to be literally incapable of improving. Her lack of skill in this area being bad enough that she is unable to cook anything simpler than the simplest of sandwiches… one incident she doesn't talk about in the Dufly academy’s dining hall has made so that the cooks even she hired herself encourage her not to be near the food at any point during preparation.

While Basira is very happy with her life she does occasionally feel slightly unfulfilled as one of the myths she had hoped to uncover since she was small has still never been found.. But she rarely speaks of what that myth was to anyone but her most trusted allies and advisers.
