Character Summary:

As a young foal, she was taken by her parents, who were in the Wonderbolts' minor leagues, to the world below many times as part of what they considered her education, while they were doing shows in the smaller towns. They wanted their daughter to experience how other ponies live. Once Brass Ring was treated to a reenactment of a town fair from long ago, and she fell in love with the prancing Carousel ponies' costumes. She bought a cheap foal's costume version of one from a booth, and modified it to fit her wings when she went home. After that she was begging her parents to take her to any place where Carousel ponies would perform, and would try to replicate or improve upon their designs.

As she improved and became more confident in her abilities, she entered a local junior carousel saddle design competition, and got best in show in her age group! As she accepted her award, she felt a tingle on her flank. Looking down, she was deeply sad to see that her cutie ring was some weird boring ring, instead of something flashier. She didn't even know what it WAS. Her parents had to explain to her that in olden days, ponies riding carousels could reach out and grab rings to get extra rides, and if they grabbed the brass ring, they got an extra ride. They were pretty amused that Brass Ring actually got a cutie mark that matched her name. She was a little less pleased.

When she was old enough to live on her own, she began to search for a place on the ground to start her tiny boutique and vintage Carousel fashion restoration business. She knew that Canterlot was not ready for her, nor was she for Canterlot, so she decided to find a smaller town. During her search she thought and dreamed a lot about her perfect boutique, and she changed her name to Calliope, because Brass Ring did not sound musical enough to her. Calliope's Carousel Fashions, she would call it. Upon visiting Hoofington, she was charmed by the seaside community's tree-lined streets, its friendly ponyfolk, it's gorgeous beached and its quaint boardwalk with, most importantly, a beautiful, but shabby, carousel that she immediately fell in love with. And there was a small vacant storefront right there attached to the building housing the carousel where she could stare at it all day from the salescounter!

She met the proprietress, a lovely and exotic-looking yellow mare named Saffron (who had just inherited it from an aunt), who was thrilled that Calliope wanted to open her business right there. They became friends, and eventually, once Saffron had repaired the rest of the carousel housing, (but that is a story for another time) moved in together in the loft above the carousel itself with a third room-mare named Beautiful Dreamer, "Boofy" for short. Together they've restored the carousel to its former glory, and take turns running it, Calliope's shop, and Saffron's snack bar. Saffron and Boofy also frequently model for Calliope's fashions for local fashion shows. They are her best friends, almost her complete social circle these days since she is so busy trying to perfect her craft, and the only two ponies in Hoofington who know that her name is not really Calliope.

The trio love beautiful things, and their house and businesses reflect this. Calliope in particular loves to shop, and is constantly bringing tasteful little treasures home to decorate their loft. Her friends joke that she is building a nest, and try to encourage her to go out and meet a stallion to start a family with. As pretty of a mare as Calliope is, though, she is rather shy with the stallions, and is a little insecure, considering herself just another all-yellow pegasus, especially when she compares herself to her lovely friends; Saffron with her flashy maroon-purple hair and dark-lined eyes, and Boofy's glimmering sea-colored coat.

While Calliope is charmed with her adopted hometown, she is significantly less charmed by the Surplus Store just down the street, run by some maniac Zebra named Monty. Being extremely non-confrontational, she plans to just stay out of his way unless absolutely necessary.

The yellow pegasus is a TINY bit high strung. At first glance she appears to be somewhat of an insufferable pain when she is trying to work on a saddle or blanket, but she really is just a perfectionist who can't seem to completely ever please herself. Since she does not have unicorn magic to fall back on, she has to work twice as hard and long as other dressmakers with just her machine and needles carefully held in her mouth, but she is a very determined young mare. She WILL at least see one of her outfits make it to the Gala, and she will keep sewing until her hooves fall off, or her dream comes true. Sometimes she may come off as a bit shallow and a little too focused on her area of expertise, but that is because she is young and unsure of herself still.

I can see an opertunity for some very intresting chracter development on Mis Calliope. The motivation section has more of a character summery feel to it at the moment, but thats fine as it clearly defines the driving fource behind her character. Much like Rerity, though she appers to be quite shallow there's actulay alot going on in that nogging of hers, I can't wait to see how she turns out. :o

This app's pretty good, if I do say so myself. You need a bit more in the Character Summary, but you explained why in the post, so I don't need to get into that. Contrary to what Cherry says, I think its better if the Motivation's a bit like the Character Summary, as it shows that you put the extra effort into your character.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I was out of town this weekend, but had some excellent inspiration for this character while I was gone! So it's going to be just a TINY bit longer :)

I am trying to work out the logistics of what kind of amusement rides would be available with the technology ponies have.
