  1. Coolness. You have an excellent character here.

Just want to point out a couple grammar issues you may want to fix:

"his popular substance became popular when several cake shops opened in Ponyville." You'll want to say "became more popular"

"After the disaster, the family was forced to count their blessings and attempt to find work and living in other areas all across Ponyville." Later you talked about how they had to live in Hoofington, so I think what you meant to say was "other areas all across Equestria".

  2. You have both Wisp and Bramble listed as being number 13, but only Wisp has mentioned that being her number. ^^; Just an FYI

    From section 1:

    Bramble Rose wrote:

"He started to gather his own energies, but very gently, hardly making his horn glow its soft green color at all. He was so focused on the energies, and pulling his numbers - number 13 - out of his saddlebags that he accidentally ran right into another pony. The delicate little unicorn pony stumbled and dropped his saddlebags, his notebooks scattering over the ground. "Oh! Oh, I'm sorry!" he said, his voice squeaking nervously."

As Granola and Carrot rushed into the now barren-looking forest, Applejack sat miserably waiting on them next to a hungry venus flytrap. In the past she has found herself in several strange predicaments and unforgettable situations with Rainbow Dash, but this one certainly takes the cake.

Precious snapped towards Applejack and she dodged his attack. "Hay! What'er think you doiong!?" She hadn't expected this kind of attack from a friendly pony's pet, but then again, Applejack probably wouldn't want to encounter Rarity's Opalescence with her current size either.

Precious wiggled back and forth to intimidate and made short barks with his petals to petrify. Applejack was angry and confused. "What does that mean?" Precious then snapped again, causing Applejack to dodge again. Applejack glared at Precious. "I'm gonna kill you!" Applejack tried to tame the venus flytrap, but it kept snapping at her and even jumped with pot and all towards her position, trying to eat her. Applejack wouldn't have anymore of this nonsense. She would then grab a rope with a lasso knot, seemingly out of nowhere, and begin twirling it in the air. "Grab a kazoo, Precious, let's have a duel. Now when I count three..."

Applejack began her little tiny circus with the venus flytrap unaware that anypony might be watching. "1. 2. 3!" Applejack shot her rope around the Precious and tied him up in several knots, keeping him immobile and less dangerous than before. "Heh, heh. Dressed up like a young apple tree. A young apple tree that can't snap at me, that is." Precious cried a pathetic whimper.

Completely unaware of Appletini's danger, Granola trots quickly with Carrot into the de-leaved forest where her shack was. Her shack wasn't that far off the trail. She opened the door for Carrot to what seemed to look like a glorified beaver dam, lodged in a ravine. It had plants of all kind all over and invited hummingbirds everywhere to vacation during the midday weather changes. "Come on in, Carrot! Welcome to my humble home."

Once inside, Granola started looking frantically everywhere for it. "Where is it? I can't find it!" The inside of Granola's hut was a mess if you didn't know where to look. Crazy contraptions and potions were located everywhere, and only Granola could make any sense out of it. This time, though, she was flustered. "Can you help me find it, Carrot? It's a clear bottle and the liquid is also clear, so you should see right through it." Granola then skidded across the hut looking for the bottle. At one point, Granola walked behind a bottle from Carrot's point of view, but Carrot could still see her.

  4. adjustments have been made. Sugar Rush despised his brother because he was jealous of his cutie mark, but also, he resented the sugar family ways because he was certain that it was the root of all of their trouble. Also, the brother's grandparents owned the land near Ponyville. Three generations, including the brother's parents lived on and ran the farm. After the tornado, they fled Ponyville in all different directions and sold the land to rock farmers.

  5. wow, section 4 turned out wierd. knight's luck changes as she rolls a 1. All anyone had to do in the top ten was roll a 5 or a 6 and they would take the lead, but no one did. So even after a 1, knight maintains the lead. What this means is that it's more anypony's race now than it was in section 3. Exciting!

Ponies will start to get mathmatically eliminated (from winning) after this next section.

  6. appletinibanner.pngnolabanner2.png

Slightly frightened, Applejack dodged and used her agility to watch out for the scuffs from enormous hoofs. As luck would have it, a generous pony sttop and discovered her wee self and gave concern for her situation. As Applejack climbed onto Carrot's hoof, Applejack recognized who he was. She pulled the paper out from under hat. "Car-rot Fi-elds. That's you raut?" The orange quadruped flustered her nonsense to the ponies around her that would listen. "Quick! I haven't got time to explain. I need to get back to normal before I lose the race!" Applejack bounced around inches high to illustrate her urgency.

Emerging from the woods onto the edge of the trail was a brown pony named Granola Gracie. Having just come from her shack, she was wanting to see if the race had passed through this area of the woods yet. She brought with her Precious, her pet venus flytrap. The moment she saw Carrot, Mojo, and Appletini, she was stunned. "WOW! COOL! A little cowpony doll!" Granola grabbed Appletini with her teeth and slowly picked her up.

"Hay!" Applejack scrambled her legs and wiggled out of her mouth, dropping back to the heavy-beaten ground. "I ain't no doll!"

"Woah! And it talks and has moving parts too! Wait a second! Are you... a real pony!? Oh, my! How in Equestria did you get so small!?"

Applejack gave a flustered snort. The curiousity of Granola and the concern of Carrot, Mojo, and Klondike was testing the patience of the little filly. "Ugh! I haven't got time to explain. Zecora's Hut in all the way on the otherside of Ponyville in the Everfree Forest! And unless you got some magical potion that reverses the effects of poison joke..."

"Poison joke! Why didn't you say so in the first place! I have tons of herbal tonic that reverses the poison joke symptoms." As Granola informed, she couldn't help but giggle and bust out a few hard laughs as she stood and stared at the small stentson-wearing pony.

"Alright! Alright! You had you're fun! Now get me some and I'll repay you with a free bushel of apples from my farm."

Granola nodded quickly with enthusiasm. "It'll be no problem at all, and the cure is almost instant!" Granola set Precious down next to Appletini and gave him orders. "Precious, would you keep an eye on the tiny pony for me while I got fetch some tonic?" Precious snorted and huffed a doggy-like nod. Granola looked up. "Hay! Carrot! I haven't seen you since the marketplace last month! Still growing those car- Hay!" Granola interrupted herself and spoke loudly to Carrot, getting uncomfortably close to the scottish colt. "You should come with me to get the tonic. While we're there, I can show you a wild carrot specimen I found. Care to come?"

Applejack was impatient, but she had no choice but to wait for the ponies that were to help her size up. As she waited, she noticed Precious next to her. The venus flytrap was licking him own lips. "What'er you lookin' at?" Applejack challenged.

((OOC:Willing to bleed this subplot into the next section, if necessary))

  7. nolabanner2.png

Granola Gracie was feeling energetic. She hopped up out of bed and began watering all of the plants inside and outside her shack with the watering can that collected rain water just outside her window sill. "Hello, Mr. Tulip. Good day, Hydrangea. Looking pretty bright today, Miss Mum." As she sprinkled the flora and greeted them with the day around her den, her eyes grew watery as she noticed a sudden groaning sound. "And, Precious, your stem is turning a lovely green this time of year." A red venus flytrap yawned exceedingly and then snapped on an unlucky housefly buzzing around him. Precious made a quick gulp and projected a smile towards her owner. "Whose a good boy? Whose a good boy?" Granola encouraged. Precious jumped up and down as far as he could taking the pot he resides in with him with every bounce.

Granola had lived her for awhile. It was the middle of the Whitetail Wood that she decided to take off for her own independence after discovering her cutie mark and special talent with plants. The Whitetail provided her plenty of time and environment she could ever dream of. And on today, the running of the leaves was in affect, and Granola was willing to partake in the tradition. But instead of actually running, she would try and rake and gather as much leaves as she could to make room for the new plants that regenerate for the following spring. Granola wasn't very athletic, so she would rather do her part in cleanup anyways.

"Hurry, Precious! We need to get ready for the race! They should be running through here any moment!" Granola trotted quickly around her place grabbing certain items and finishing up her morning routine caring for the plants in the area. Precious, meanwhile, sat helplessly on the table his pot rested on. However, one would be foolish to underestimate the plant's mischievous capabilities. He was always getting into trouble and causing mayhem for the characters around her. All without Granola knowing, of course. Granola grabbed Precious' pot and slide him unto her back. "Let go to the trail and see if they have gotten to these parts of the woods." On the way out the door, Precious tried to snap another fly in the area, but failed to capture it. Precious shook himself. Looking up, the fly danced away from him and mocked him with buzzing.

Applejack dozed off a couple times in Big Mac's mane. As the race ran into Whitetail Wood, the thick smell of bark and leaves overwhelmed the area but it was pleasant. Applejack breathed heavily and took in the woodsy air. "Well, I reckon it's time to find a way out of my small size. But how am ah ever gonna find a cure in this predicament?" As she thought, she was jostled by a jump Big Mac had made over a tree branch that had fallen. Applejack grabbed tightly onto Big Mac's mane to keep from falling off. "Whoa there, Big Macintosh!" Applejack squeaked, perhaps too loudly. But Big Mac did not respond.

Shortly after, Big Mac came to a stop. Applejack continued to talk to her brother as if he wasn't able to hear her. "What'er you stopping for, I have uh... I mean, we have a race to win!" As Big Mac shook his head, Applejack held on for dear life, until she was finally grounded by the centrifigal force of Big Mac's head. "Ahh ponyfeathers." Applejack looked up at the Giant Macintosh above her and chirped, "Heh, hay, big brother!" Applejack waved innocently to immediately avoid being accused of cheating. But instead, Big Macintosh continued his race and even race faster than he did before. "Yer not jus gonna leave me here, are ya?" Applejack yelled as loud as her little voice could, but no pony could hear her clear enough. As she soon realized, several giant ponies were whizzing past her very fast and she had to make great attempts to avoid their hoofsteps.

  8. I would definitely use Winona as a template for this kind of dog.

    Winona2.png

Winona is guessed to be a border collie, a relatively smart dog that had herding skills. However, border collies have longer hair than shepherd dogs and floppy ears instead of pointy. I would try making a Winona with less hair randomization (like the ones on her tail and elbows) and maybe make the dog a little larger in size compared to Winona. Other than that, it's about the same dog.

If you'd like, I can try tracing out my own template and see if you like it. It may take a while for me to do, as my free time is limited.

  9. I posted this in General OOC, but I'll post it here too. This is a google doc that displays the latest scores as the race runs, and will be updated regularly. This document is public so that anyone can eidt it, because I trust that no pony will do something stupid. If your character does not have a 'flank number' on the chart, go ahead and make one and save it. There's really no need to edit anything else, I can do the rest.

I may also create future visual aides to help show what the 'packs' of ponies actually looks like.

Applejack thought Carrot was funny. Seeing him trip on his words and seeing the purple unicorn interrupt him was entertaining. Forever, is what it seemed like, while the two stallions fumbled each other their strange verbal and nonverbal communications. As Carrot trotted off spilling his sweat, Applejack chuckled at his goofy nervous twitches and cross-legged style of running.

She then noticed all of the ponies that had been writing their names down with the best penponyship their mouths could make. Rose tried talking while she wrote, and she enunciated surprisingly well. Rose had expressed her wish to buy not one but two bottles of juice and a pie as, what AJ thought, would be a good second place prize. Applejack's pupils turned to the shapes of dollar signs. She was so happy that all of the thirsty ponies had taken the bait.

However, Applejack started noticing the number of passing ponies dwindle to just a few slow trotting ponies who were mostly looking at the scenery, some of them even taking pictures. Applejack looked into the direction of the third leg of the race, and began to sweat as she realized how far behind she might have been getting.

Klondike began proposing repairs he could make for the farm. Applejack didn't really know how to respond, seeing as the race was made with mostly random haste decision-making. "Oh yeah, maybe." Applejack smiled to shrug off the proposal. She didn't want to be mean, but she didn't need any help. And if she did, she wouldn't be making arrangements during a race like this, even if she sold a few bottles of apple juice during the run. "I mean, maybe we can talk about it later?" Applejack was so preoccupied by the writing of names, and the list of names was becoming a larger task that seemed to slow everypony down, including herself.

"All righty, then. Just put your names down, and uh, and. uh..." Applejack saw the ponies slowly write their names down and it was making her very impatient. After a light blue pegasus had put her own name down, she questioned on the possibility to buy some apples. Still eye-balling the paper and seeing a pony named Mobius write his name down slowly, Applejack responded, "Uh, yes ma'am, uh, that'll be uh four bits for a bushel and uh, uh..." Applejack couldn't take it anymore. She swiped the paper from underneath Mobius and stuck it into her hat for safe keeping. "That's good enough! See ya'll at the finish line!"

Applejack took the remaining apple juices and threw them into the empty crate. She used her very strong forelegs to shove the crate and the table back behind the barn where she had gotten them. Applejack began galloping through the orchard passing all of the apple trees in the area. She had not forgotten Shanna's request, however. She ran up to an apple tree close to the path and kicked it violently with her hind legs. Almost all of the apples had fallen on or near the path, creating a hazard for ponies trying to run through the blanket of round fruit. Applejack shouted back to Shanna and the other ponies, "Here! These apples are on the house!" Applejack continued running and catching up with the lead pack at the other end of the orchard, the tree's leaves mostly coating the farmland floor. Applejack didn't feel too bad about creating an obstacle for the other ponies. After all, they did ask for apples.

Applejack began running with three legs as she attempted to look at the paper she had stuck in her hat. One name read 'Carrot Fields'. As Applejack stuck the names back into her hat and maintained the four-leg gallop, she chuckled. This was one of her best ideas. And with the second leg of the race coming to and end, she was excited to see how many ponies she could pass in the next few miles to come.

  11. hi hi

I'm surprised I got a lucky six. Knowing my way with dice I was expecting all ones... although sometimes I suspect online dice rollers of being weighted towards the high end. :shifty:

I don't know how everypony else is planning on roleplaying the scores. I was thinking that for myself, I would play it fast and loose until maybe the 5th or 6th leg and then start trying to roleplay my position a little more strictly. Or is the ranking an entirely OOC thing?

This is what I was thinking. Since the probability of anypony winning is left wide open, we should allow our characters to do whatever we think would be best for them, and then adhear to their energy and strategy, or lack thereof, towards the end to put the scores in action.

And as far as the winner... By the time we get to the last section, the race will probably come down to 3 or 4 ponies, as several other ponies will be mathmetically eliminated, since 9 is the most you can score per section.

  12. i took the nerdy liberty of making a nice sophisticated chart for the scoring of the event. After Manestream's first scoring, here is the leaderboard as they run:

    Ginger Mint 9 Lyra 8 Swift Breeze 8 Gilda 8 Bramble Rose 8 Holly Dash 8 Mayday 8 Rose 8 Mobius 7 Big Mac 7 Applejack 7 Carrot Fields 7 Corsair 7 Flicker 6 Zephyr 6 Klondike 6 Clutch Vibrafang 6 Seeker 6 Breaker 5 Dixie 5 Harmony Everskies 5 Mojo 4 Dustsy 4 Pinkie Pie 4 Survey 3 Shanna 3 Stormsong 3 Dotty Droll 3

Here's an editable doc. You'll notice the spreadsheet has built-in functions so that it adds the scores automatically when entered. No cheating, lol, i have a hard copy with scores, lol.

    https://docs.google....&hl=en_US#gid=0

Also, you'll notice several ponies have numbers on their flank. If you have a number, or forgot to make one, feel free to to edit it so that your number is reflected on the scoresheet. Bramble and Willow both have 13, not that it matters, though.

  13. ajbanner.png

Applejack's first three customers were all stallions. She sure does know how to hook'em. "Hay there! You thir-," Applejack smiled and held in a giggle as Carrot fell to the ground, adding to the dirt that was already on his ponyface, "-sty?"

The next pony, same shy but not as clumsy, trotted up to the table nervously and greeted. She noticed that this was the same pony that had bumped into her at the starting line. Applejack responded with the utmost confidence. "You'll love my apple juice! It's the sweetest in all of Equestria!" Applejack raised her hooves with confidence, slightly reminding her of Trixie and all of her pride.

When Klondike came, he began talking very excitedly and looked to be trying to gain the impressions of the pony next to him. After he complimented Applejack, he told of his running into what seemed to be a rough description of Big Mac. But Big Mac was on the other side of the farm, taking care of the livestock while I'm racing, Applejack thought. Klondike continued to buy into the apple product before interrupting himself with the noticing of Survey, hoofing over a bag that he was carrying. This pony sure does notice ponies well.

As Carrot got up and dusted himself off explaining his intentions, Rose came up to them and giggled. The mares code spoke strong as she said non-verbally to Applejack that Carrot was blown away by her company. Applejack nodded to her. But she then noticed something about the grey stallion. Applejack walked up to him and looked at him closely. She paused for a moment before exclaiming, "Ah know you!! You're from Carrot farms just west of here, ain't ya? Farmin's sure is rewarding work, ain't it?" Applejack spun herself back behind the table and continued her spiel. "So rewarding, that I've decided to share my fresh apple juice with all of the athletes." Applejack looked down at the crate the juice bottles where kept in and read the tag that said 'SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE: 1 BIT'. She scuffed the letters that read this that popped back up above the table. "Only 2 bits, each."

Rose approached the table closer and questioned Applejack about her competitive nature as it related to her selling her products. "Oh, don't you worry about that! I can catch up to the fastest ponies in this race in a blink of an eye." And then it occurred to Applejack a mistake she didn't see coming. None of these ponies had any money with them. Applejack tapped her chin and thought as Rose sighed a small dose of disappointment. "I tell ya what, write yer name on this here paper and you can pay after the race." Applejack pulling a piece of paper that was lying on top of the empty crate. One side of the paper said 'SELL BY (TODAY'S DATE).' She flipped the page over and grabbed a pencil that had been lying around and placed them on the table in front of Rose and the other poor ponies. She knew that if their body spoke louder than their wallets, she would be making a boost in sales today.

  14. ajbanner.png

When the Mayor had asked Applejack to clear a running way through the Sweet Apple Acres orchard, she was disgruntled at first, knowing that several ponies, most of them strangers would be trampling on very carefully maintained soil that allowed the Apple family's crops to grow so well every year. But the exposure to the farm made Applejack realize ways she could take advantage of it and use her money-making skills to the best of their ability.

As the racing ponies filed out from the starting area, they reached the first scenic route of the race, Sweet Apple Acres. Applejack ran towards the front and worked her little legs more than she probably should. But she had a reason. She knew that several ponies, especially the first-timers, would quickly start realizing how hard this race might be for them, and will look or any way finding extra strength when they feel they have no more.

As Applejack galloped up next to the barn near the entrance to the orchard path that split the orchard, she stopped and pulled out a crate of bottles of apple juice made fresh on the farm. She stuck straws in bottles and put the bottles on display on a table right on the path. Here we go, Applejack thought, time to make some sales.

    ajaplejuice.png

Applejack knew she could win, even if she took a rest, and especially since Rainbow appears to have decided hoofracing isn't her thing. The orange pony thought that if she was going to take a break, she might as well try to make money while doing it. She shouted, "Get yer refreshin' apple juice right here! Mighty fresh and mighty sweet!" She pitched her lines to the ponies racing by her. She wasn't too concerned with them racing ahead. She knew she had plenty of time to caught up, and most of them were running the slow and steady pace, anyways. And the slower the pace, the more customers she was bound to attract.

"Care to take a break and drink somethin' that'll cool you down?" Applejack said trying to get the attention of Carrot Fields.

Applejack ate a heavy breakfast. More than her usual morning routine, she ate a dozen whole apples, several pints of apple juice, and a large stack of apple pancakes with generous amounts of maple syrup on top. Applejack would never indulge this much. Not unless there was a big race she was trying to get ready for.

"100! Ha!" Applejack finished her final hoof-up and stretches at close proximity to the starting line. This was it, the annual Running of the Leaves. Applejack couldn't have waited any longer for this event to come. With all of the noise and batter that wrecked her ability to show off from last year's run, she was sure that she would prove that it was only a Rainbow disaster and that she could win this thing by a gratuitous margin of victory.

As Applejack high-stepped her way to the starting line, she picked up her racing number from the registration table. As always, she was number '8'. She has had that number ever since her first running of the leaves when she was just a filly too small for her own duds.

Applejack ran the leaves every year as was tradition and it always seemed like a thing she felt she needed to do. But contrary to popular belief, Applejack has never actually won the event. She was always competitive, but something always kept her from winning. One year, a very unfortunate maple syrup spill caused her hooves to get stuck, and by the time she got free, the pony leader had already finished the race. Last year, Applejack thinks she would have won had it not been for Rainbow Dash cheating her way to a tie for last place.

As Applejack continued making her last stretches, she walked up to the line and looked to see the other ponies who were competing in the eye. Land sakes! Applejack thought to herself. This year there seemed to be more ponies than ever, even some non-ponies! But the visualization of steep competition didn't cause Applejack any fret. "This year, I'm gonna leave that 'iron phony' in the dust, heh heh." As Applejack surveyed the starting line for tone-muscled ponies that were sure to be competitive, she realized one very important thing. "Where's Rainbow?" She queried to the ponies around her. There were so many ponies, that Applejack was positive Rainbow Dash wouldn't miss her chance to compete in this one. She even looked up to see if she was hovering above waiting to use her gift of flight as an unfair competitive advantage, but she wasn't there either. Applejack chuckled, "Heh heh, I sure hope she ain't late."

    ajstart.png

At the same time, the crowd of ponies even blinded Applejack from seeing her big brother Macintosh. She wasn't expecting him here, though. After all, with Granny cheering her granddaughter to victory, somepony had to be watching the farm. And it wasn't going to be her on this day, no way!

    "On your marks!"

Applejack sprung from her final lunge to the very straight edge of the starting line. As she placed her hooves in the soft dirt, she noticed a green unicorn doing a check list as if he was bringing items along with him on this very fast trip to the other side of Whitetail Wood. And then after was looking around for something he had misplaced. Applejack couldn't resist chuckling at his dorky nature. She had never seen him before and was obvious a first timer. Running into her, the unicorn jostles Applejack out of her carefully placed hoofings. "Hay! Watch where yer going; weer tryin' to run a race here." He couldn't hear her, however, as it looked as if he was completely focused on finding his misplacings. What a rookie, Applejack thought.

    "Get set!"

Applejack crouched into a pouncing position as she readied herself and the start. She licked her lips in attempt to taste a winning attitude. Next to her, she found a pegasus doing much the same thing. This pony was no dork, though. This was ready to take off the fillisecond that the race started. But the pony also seemed to have a mindful way about him, as if he had a good strategy for the race. Applejack had to make sure to pull ahead of him before the first bend into the forest.

    "Go!!!!!!"

Applejack burst forward and began eclipsing her shadow with the shadow of the trees that hung the beautiful orange red and yellow leaves from their branches. Right away, Applejack could sense without even looking back that she was already ahead of most of them. But at the same time, her apple-sense could feel the vibrations of the other pony's beating hearts with only a few hooves of her tail. She could only see the other leading ponies in the corner of her eye. Applejack was determined, though. She was looking straight ahead into the orange-tinted forest, where no pony has yet to set their hooves on. Applejack bursted with a loud competitve cheer...

    "YEEEEEHAAAWWW!!!"

"Fillies and gentlecolts! Welcome to the annual running of the leaves! This is your live radio coverage from the edge of Whitetail Wood brought to you by ESRN, the wide world leader of pony sports!

Before we start, I'd like to welcome our newest affiliate in Fillydelphia, WPNY 98.8. Thank you for joining us.

This year's race looks like it's gonna be a big one as we have more competitors than ever before! Will we have a new first time winner this year or will a previous champ continue their dominance? Well, we're about to find out.

The ponies are at the starting line and it looks like their about to start.

    ...Yup here they go.

    "On your marks!"

    "Get set!"

    "Go!!!!!!"

AND THEY'RE OFF! Who will get the holeshot!?"

Madden was excited. This was the first year he would broadcast live radio during the running of the leaves and commentate on the competitive action. But he wasn't alone though. Almost the same level as his cloud he was reporting from was a large pink balloon that was slowly hovering in the direction of the ponies. Madden's 'Commentation Cloud' moved too, but he found it interesting that somepony else was announcing with speakerphone and not him. Could it be somepony better at him at sports analysis? For the time being, Madden was willing to push those precarious thoughts aside while the run started.

  16. I was re-reading the awesome OP in this thread fifty million times and I have another comment/question/suggestion.

If a roll of the dice between 1-6 determines the pace of your character (without the quality post thingy, anyways), is there a way we can see those rolls before it's 'section' so that we can write based on our speed?

In other words, it wouldn't make sense if Applejack lit an acme rocket to propel herself to the lead, and then she rolls a one. However, if I know she rolls a one, I can write about how she tried to use acme rocket but blew up twice instead of propel forward.

Also, it would be nice to have a real time leadersboard so that we know which ponies we have to trip in order to get ahead ;)
