  1. I've got some friends whose company I generally enjoy, but all four of them tend to complain quite a bit. I recently was mired in a gripe-fest with them and I excused myself and went home to get away from it. They have refined the art of negativity quite a bit, to the point where they can complain about issues that don't exist. For example, the weather, even when it is beautiful outside. They just complain about the weather somewhere or sometime else. Complicating things, life is actually hard for two of them, but I am doing ok. How do you approach a friend, who has legitimate grievances with life, and ask them to stop complaining so much?
  2. I work backwards on this issue myself. Furthermore, my post delves into the spiritual so feel free to skip it.

    Help me!

I don't have a TV either. I regret it during the Olympics, and football season. But I love it all the rest of the time. For $2 per episode, or $30 for a season, you can buy it on iTunes about 8-10 hours after the live air date. What is the big deal about watching it live? Edit: Also, the next episode isn't tomorrow. I think January 7th is the next air date. Edit2: thanks Tempest!
  4. I consider certain extensions, namely adblock and fasterfox to be evil. The internet is largely free because of ads. If the only cost to you consuming information on a website is to put up with the ads, you are getting off pretty good. By blocking the ads, you are basically stealing from that website. They are providing bandwidth for you, but have no chance to recoup the cost. You don't walk out of a store without paying for a candy bar, neither should you fail to "pay" for the information you pull off a site by allowing the ads to load. If a site doesn't want you there if you are going to take bandwidth without checking out their sponsors, that seems like something they have the right to pursue if they want to do so.
  5. Its stuff like this that make me wonder: if Twilight left to continue her training in Canterlot, and never came back, would FS and RD ever hang out again? Well, I wonder about all of them. Are they a group of friends contingent on a connecting member or are they all friends with all of the others? Maybe Pinkie Pie would continue to glue them together since they have been through quite a bit now. But what if she also left?
  6. I've noticed that the Pinkie Pie and Scootaloo tumblrs were both disturbing, and difficult to read. I needed to enlarge nearly every panel with writing to see them clearly. Give 'em a pass.
  7. In my example, "old man" was both the subtitle and the English voice actor's line (Produced at excellent over all quality by Disney). Only by knowing a little Japanese would you have caught the correct connotation.
  8. I still like magic, having first played in '95 as a 10 year old...but it is not, and has never been, aimed exclusively at kids. I consider it to be similar to Chess and Go, having played all three.
  9. The following comparison is from my favorite Anime movie (Spirited Away) (English) Sen: Hey old Man... (Japanese) Sen: Grandfather... He wasn't even related, she was just being respectful.

    Sports Ponies

Debate Closed : ) And I'm changing my answer for Rarity too.
  11. We know Rarity and Fluttershy have been hanging out for a while, but who else already had a relationship before Twilight showed up? It isn't like she just barged into a group of five; she met them all individually. My best guess is that Rarity and Applejack did not have much of a friendship before the season one opener.
  12. Yes! This is the most important thread ever!
  13. I'm in exactly the same boat. But only because time is limited and I'm a new fan. After my first binge, it should be a couple months before I start up again.

    Sports Ponies

I picked curling because it can be casual, relaxing, inexact and is a relatively quiet team sport. But yeah, coming up with one for FS was the hardest. I don't dislike the suggestion of golf, if only because she would be playing for a completely different reason than Rarity. Sled Dog Racing is a legitimate sport, but physically demanding and thus not for FS. Am...I the only one that thinks that is creepy? Even if it is a good choice it is unsettling... Wow, how did I miss that? Track and Field perhaps? I guess I was thinking about being fast and furious with maneuverability also being important.
  15. Must...Focus...on...cuteness...and ...ignore... threecolorsofstoneshorsehairbroomssmallcirclesandtheeaglesweepingoutsidethepathofthestone Honestly the most disturbing part is the horsehair brooms. They are obsolete, and kinda creepy if you are an equine.
  16. Imagine... Each of the mane six are humans in our world, and each plays a sport. Which do they choose? Here is my preliminary selection: I would guess that AJ, RD, and TS are actually good at the sports they choose...
  17. Well lets see how bronyland did for me: (comments are my general feelings about hanging out) AJ: 100% - No RD: 70% - Yes Ra: 50% - Meh FS: 45% - Big Yes TS: 35% - Yes PP: 35% - Big No ...Well that was all over the map. I think that is more a function of bronyland messing it up though. From most to least I think it is actually: TS-FS-RD-Ra-AJ-PP
  18. If you define best as "the pony I would most like to chat with anonymously online" I would be with you. I bet Fluttershy can't type for crap. I can think of off the wall definitions that favor the other ponies too...except for Pinkie Pie.
  19. My complete list might have 8-10 total on it, but no one mentioned my favorite: Super Dave! The first half hour was a cartoon in which Super Dave would do such amazing feats as saving an orphanage from a speeding train! That was on train tracks for some reason. With his face. His catch phrase was "NEW PAIN" to whatever bizarre thing happened to him in whatever episode. The last half hour would be live action, with Super Dave would perform a dangerous stunt, like running full tilt towards a plate glass window of a four story building, crashing through it, and landing on the inflatable pad outside. They would spend 20 minutes talking about the stunt and how it would work (I need to have enough momentum that I make it to the pad, but not so much that I overshoot it"), and then he would be off! Only, the plate glass would hold, without so much as a crack, and after slamming into it, he would writhe around on the ground. And that was the end of the episode. For some reason it is hard to find on DVD, but I can't imagine why...
  20. Turning in a census is required by law. But I'm not sure what enforcement looks like. It must be pretty awful. The true consequences are felt in the federal aid that is based on the census. So if you don't respond, you are giving your states money to someone else. The Prince of Egypt (Dreamworks) is still one of my favorites though. It combines traditional and computer animation to beautiful effect, and the songs are great.
  21. He has a pocket watch and tells Fluttershy when she is late. HOW CAN YOU TOP THAT?!
  22. That reasoning would have been confusing to me a few months ago. Then I picked up guitar, and decided suddenly that blackbird by the Beatles was a good song because it is fun to play.
  23. I tried so hard to separate the elements from the ponies in the intro, but it seems that that is impossible. I do like your reasoning though. The Kindness/Generosity thing is a good way to deal with the problem.
  24. So this is a simple matter of someone taking the audio, adding a video to youtube, and it getting taken down because the person who submitted it didn't have rights to the song? That is a bit anticlimactic.
  25. So was that actually Scootaloo's voice actor?
