  1. Another MLPAreana member! Whoohoo! I love Minty and Kimono, but mostly because of the webcomic Kimono's Townhouse! Welcome! If you personally had a cutie mark/symbol as a pony, what would it be?
  2. Disclaimer: In case you are wondering how this RP came to pass: I present "Applejack's Farm Truck". Way to go Hasbro. Welcome, everypony to the third annual Sweet Apple Acres MONSTER TRUCK RALLY! I'm your host, 4-Speed and with me is my co-host BrandySnap. Say " hi" to the ponies out there, BrandySnap. "Hi, ponies out there who are listening to us describe the Monster Truck Rally, or watching it right on front of their eyes which are on their face!" Enough. It's another BYOOTIFUL day here in Equestria. The sun's shining, the birds are chirping, and the smell of diesel's in the air. That humming ain't coming from no humming birds, ain't that right, Brandy. ""S right, Speedy! Its from engines. Engines in trucks, which are on the track in front of us. You can hear them." Ok, they got it, Brandy. Folks, we've got a fine line up of ve-hickles ready to smash, crash and bash junkers for your amusement.... "...And by "smash, crash and you mean run over those beat up cars, right Speedy? Those cars that are stacked right there in the field?" Yeah. We've got all kinds of road monsters, road hogs, farm trucks outfitted with tractor tires, and wheeled beast out there in the field, just gearing to tear it up. "Tear up the grass and make it muddy, right Speedy? Boy is Applejack gonna be mad when she sees what they did to.... Will you shut your trap? Sheezy-whiz! Well, it's time to meet our fine contestants. Contestant number one, who are you and where ya from?
  3. Yep. The "pinkie pile" photo is coming soon, as soon as I can make it to storage and get the rest of them.
  4. I am going to go see it next weekend. I have mixed feeling about this (I was never a huge Thor fan). But I am SUPER freaking excited about the Avengers movie.
  5. jPSra3AccE0 I am not a fan of pro-wretling. Being friends with the daughter and adopted son of a pro-wrestler through middle/high school didn't help that much. But I have a HUGE OLD SOFT SPOT for Andre the Giant. Even before I saw Princess Bride.
  6. There is an art pony (with no real official name) who has a black pelt and a blue mane, but it is not a unicorn. But if you wanted to make a custom this would be the quickest way from point a to finished one. Just add horn and cutie mark. Other than that there are definitely no black ponies that aren't special editions for adult collectors only: (the only other two are a comic Con pony and one of the MLP Project ponies) . Definitely ponies with ghosts as their cutie mark. There is a G3 Breezie pony named Willow Wisp, in yellow and orange tones. No relation (that little weird thing with the antennas)
  7. Sir Knightly, (still researching) there were no knight themed ponies. There were plenty of princesses, and one baby boy pony who had a dragon on his flank. While this guy is similar on coloring to a lot of other ponies, it is possibly the most common color combination of a white pelt with pinkish reddish hair. Very few Pegasi, though and certainly no canon characters (only a few oddball variants who never matched the official art anyway) Symbol-wise, though, nothing. For a custom of your character: If you ever wanted to make a custom of him, about the only pony you could use with minimal effort is G3's Daisy May who is girly (and from experience, of you were to do so, get pure acetone. That pink on her wings is a pain to get off). Or Yum Yum from the G1 like who you would have to dye the pale pink hair of. Brazilian Truly as well, but you'd have to remove the green streaks. For the males, your only hope would be to reroot Chief or Daddy Apple Delight and give him wings. There are countless regular ponies with a white body and a darker pink mane (in g1, the birthflower ponies, li'l tot, mommy apple delight...etc in g3 too many to list) Tobias Done. Tobias is ALL clear. There was only one singular red My Little Pony ever and he was comic book themed. And not a pegasus. And his symbol, nothing comes close. For a custom of your character: Your ONLY option without painting is the 2007 Comic Con pony: And I can only think of one offhand that even had hair that matched your mane: Thunder Boomer Still researching. I feel like there is a baby pony somewhere I am missing. Thunder Boomer's pretty good. He has a few elements similar with other ponies from other generations, but nothing that could identify him with one pony. About the only pony mane/coat combo I can thing he resembles is Tootsie from g1 and it's not exact, and she's not a pegasus Symbol-wise, he's close to the UK Mountain Boy pony Lightening, name's similar to Thundercloud. For a custom of your character:My friend, the only way you are getting a g1 male representation of Thunder Boomer is to add wings to and reroot either baby Leaper or Mountain Boy Ice Crystal (which at his price I would not recommend) and give him wings. These guys would be close, but definitely too pastel. You could get away with Baby Paws who is much bluer, maybe. The easiest, most minimal effort, if you don't care about the girly body is to reroot Brush and Grow Braided Beauty. Other, custom-wise in terms of color: if you don't care about the girly body, would be to dye Medley's hair 9too blue, though), Tootsie (g1, just add wings and a streak), Tropical Surprise (who is way too BLUE, with too many hair colors., but she's kind of similar overall color combination)(g3) The color green of Thunder Boomer's pelt is tough. The only ponies ever made in a brilliant light green were Lofties, Flutterbyes and a few other oddball variants from Argentina. Hasbro doesn't like green ponies. Edited for a more uniform format.
  8. Yeah, I have a few more days of work to do on this one (don't worry, she has her own personality, likes and dislikes and I am working on that simultaneously with a short "how she met Jonagold" story) I just wanted to get a placeholder up, and stake my claim. Just in case! But yeah, let me know what Ashi says. I am fairly sure that Galaxy was an abandoned character, though, because she was one of the main characters of the' '86 show, but wasn't used in any form in any other generation. And yes, quartz is originally how she makes her lenses to gaze at the stars more closely (the polishing an refining comes later, as a hobby). But I am still working on it (thus the "very wip" qualifier in the title) I don't feel like revising 30 times on the board again, so I am just doing it in word.
  9. And trash-talking. Don't forget that great American past time! Yes, we played in the woods all day until dinner. With rusty construction debris that we made into clubhouses.
  10. Screw the flutter ponies. Those stupid wings pissed me off SO MUCH. I got one, just one, for easter and within a day her stupid wings broke off and YES I AM STILL BITTER. At least the summerwing/windywing ponies held together. I want them to bring back glittery symbols on Unicorns.
  11. [ Nova - Unicorn ] Name: Nova Sex: Female Age: Older Filly Species: Unicorn Pelt Color: A dusty, slightly pinkish grey Mane/Tail Color & Style: Very long, striped in shades of bright reddish pink, a watermelon, bright reddish-orange and fuchsia. Because she is such a tomboy, it's usually kept braided and in little tiny buns all along her hair-line, and her tail is braided, coiled around itself with a shorter tuft so it just looks like she has a short-ish tail. Because her parents began braiding her hair at a very young age, and she continued the tradition when she was old enough because it was convenient, her mane and tail are quite long when not in braids. Eye Color: The pink color of Cotton Candy. She often has magnifying goggles on (that she half discovered/ half invented with the help of her father in order to see farther along the plains and desert stretches of her new home. Cutie Mark: crystals (not literal, line drawings in the same vein as Rarity's) in the shape of a constellation, but she hasn't figured out which one yet. Physique: Average for an active filly her age. Residence: Just outside of Appleoosa, but originally from Hoofington Occupation: Amateur Astronomer / Student/ Amateur Adventurer / full-time adorable Motivation: Nova's parents were sweethearts who fell truly in love one night while watching a meteor shower from the beach of their childhood homes near the beautiful beaches of SeaSaddle bay, so they promised to give any of their future children named related to astronomy. Nova does love looking at the night sky, and she uses her special talent, centered around the finding and manipulating silicates, to help her make simple devices to see them better. Right now she can just find flawless quartz, that she uses for lenses. She is learning to make glass, though, and probably will be able to once she hones her powers, and maybe takes a bunch of chemistry courses. Likes: Space! learning new things, exploring, collecting specimens to study later Dislikes: There's not much she dislikes, but she's not so keen on griffins, and is a little afraid of them from a foalhood encounter. Character Summary: Nova was born in Hoofington to two unicorns with very down-to-earth powers, literally. Both of her parents' special talents lay in the manipulation of rocks and minerals. They hoped that their children would reach for the stars, so they gave them both astronomy-based names and fostered an interest in the starry skies since they were newborn foals. Nova enjoyed a happy foalhood with her parents and brother, and actively kept track of astronomical events as her favorite hobby. One day a comet was to appear in the skies of Equestria, a comet that only returned every 100 years. Nova was so excited, but couldn't find a telescope anywhere in town to see it more clearly. She paced along the beach, but suddenly felt a tingle on her horn, and to her surprise a large, clear stone was unburying itself from the sand at her hooves. She looked at it and realized she was moving it with her horn, but as soon as she did she lost control and dropped it in the water, which cleared it from all the wet sand that had stuck to it. When she finally regained control of the stone, she noticed that it magnified the sand around her. In a flash of inspiration, she pointed it at the night sky. She not only got to see the comet close up that night, but got her starry cutie mark as well! A mixture between her families' traditional talents, and the talent that her parents encouraged. A nice mix of nature vs. nurture. Since she discovered her special talent, she's been working very hard learning how to use it to make the best lenses that she can in hopes to one day build the best telescope in Equestria, to discover plants and stars that other ponies have never seen (and to discover what constellation her cute mark is based on). While her older brother, Moonstone is handsome and extremely talented in the telekinetics department, Nova is substantially less so. She can move things about to a degree, but really only has a good control over quartz and related minerals. About what she is best at is polishing rocks with sand, making sand fly, and eventually causing it to heat up enough to fuse it to form glass. She's working on it, but nothing but a few fused droplets have happened yet. She is a rather young unicorn, and patient, so she knows that it will take her a lot of work to perfect glassmaking and is up to the challenge. Nova almost never goes anywhere without her goggles and what she calls her 'kit' and Jonagold calls 'Secret Spy Gear', which is a box her father helped her make that consists of several interchangeable tubes and lenses to form primitive magnifying equipment (Note to Mods: this is actually based on a kid's toy from the 1920s called Koptor. Very simple, but very effective) that she carries in her saddlebag. Her knowledge of minerals, soil types, fossils and stars are about akin to that annoying kid in your fifth grade class who always won the science fair. But Nova is no "stay indoors" type of unicorn. This happy unicorn throws herself into learning everything she can about the physical world around her, less through book work and more through hands-on study and observation. A tireless adventurer and active kind of gal, she's quickly adapted to the canyons of her new home and can leap from nook to nook with the grace of a mountain goat. Her dedication to exploring the world around her doesn't keep her from making friends, though. She is always looking for ponies to go on adventures with, and is a very loyal friend to those colts or fillies that share her interests, and have patience for the fact that sometimes she'll stop what she's doing to pry an interesting rock loose from a cliffside or press a flower in a notebook she always carries. She is still very much a filly, and what she has in grace and knowledge beyond her years is made up for when she speaks: She is an excitable spazz who frequently uses malapropisms and stumbles over her words. She also is a wee bit too fond of completely horrible puns. About her family Her Father, Lucky Strike: the unicorn who only struck gold (before moving to Appleoosa) on the day he gained HIS cutie mark, and then only enough to forge it into a horn ornament for his childhood sweetheart. His magic power involves the discovery and manipulation of softer metals, but he is a jewelry-maker by trade. Despite Hoofington being quite the tourist destination, his supply of raw materials to create his wares was limited. He could feel gold just off shore, though (old Pirate's booty), but couldn't get to it. Her Mother, Coral Stone, has the curious and unique power to find Dragon Fossils (and other ones, but she gets the strongest read on Dragons). There were not many in Hoofington. She and her husband often collaborate on fossil-based jewelry. NOTES: This was originally supposed to be Galaxy. I would prefer to use Galaxy Galaxy is a G1 character, and was always one of my favorites, her attitude and personality (not really job or motivation though) here is the one I made for her as a kid. This is more of my restitution for having one of my favorite characters SO ANNOYING in their original animated depiction. She was such a bossy, no-fun Concernicus. This will probably be the last g1 pony I apply for, If the use of G1 characters is approved, this will be her appearance. [ Galaxy - Unicorn ] Name: Galaxy Sex: Female Age: Older Filly Species: Unicorn Pelt Color: Lilac Mane/Tail Color & Style: Very long, striped in shades of bright reddish pink, a watermelon-like pink, bright reddish-orange and white.
  12. hugs! Oh man, I was just so the biggest dork when I was younger and got made fun of alllll the time. It just somehow became cool by the time I got to college But what you are talking about is kind of different.. These are just people being jerks And part of me immediately thinks "you whippersnappers!" in my head. I am becoming "that person". HA!
  13. Disclaimer, this is not aimed at everyone younger than me. Just people who think they can be experts on someone else's childhood when they weren't even born yet. I am tired, just completely freaking tired, of people calling me a liar (and it always tends to be people significantly younger than me, typically kind of spoiled kids who are just now out of college and into their first jobs) for talking about things I did when I was a kid. Times were different in the 80s. Parents were a HELL of a lot more permissive overall then they are now. Plus my particular parents had me when they were teenagers. I've been called a liar, or accused of "making stuff up" for the most ridiculous things too. Most recently I was innocently discussing Halloween costumes from the past with a co-worker. I dressed up as a punk fairy for Halloween in 2nd grade (pink hair, gold lamé and leather costume, and gold wings. My mom and I made the costume). Their response was "there is no way you were sophisticated enough in second grade to know what punk was" (and this is at least the 5th time this has happened to me). EXCUSE ME? In 1986? I couldn't imagine NOT knowing what punk was, when you had MTV, and about every single commercial aimed at kids included some kind of *******sized reference to punk. Punky Brewster? The Misfits (from Jem and the Holograms)? The freaking CHIPMUNKS, with mohawks? SOPHISTICATED? I don't freaking think so. Sure it might not have been accurate to the "authentic 70's scene" that people try so hard to emulate , but just because it wasn't prevalent in your childhood doesn't mean it wasn't for a long long time during someone else's. Especially when there are several years between you. Those three years you spent not really forming long term memories as an infant/toddler might have been the same years when another person is in the midst of the time of their childhood where if they miss their favorite cartoon they get upset, while kids even just 2 years older didn't even watch those baby cartoons. When you are that age, even a year is a HUGE difference.
  14. YES (Although at the time, I just kept picturing the sister who gets banished to cartoon land in the Twilight Zone movie***, which is really hilarious if you think about it) and Fizzy is exactly the voice of Sunni Gummi (as in the voice same voice actress doing the SAME EXACT VOICE with all of its intonations as Sunni, and she does several in the show) And Tress MacNeille you just expect and recognize in anything from the 80's (I had End of Flutter Valley going on in the background last night, can you tell? I had to look up like "WTF" ever time either Gusty or Fizzy spoke. I don't like that it looks like Rarity plucks her hairline like an Elizabethan woman. AT ALL. ***Edited to add the link for folks who have no idea what I am talking about, because I am guessing that not everyone watched that sort of crappy movie about a million times when they were little.
  15. So, I have been collecting ponies since 1995. I've kept up on each generation as it came out with the exception of the Hasbro core 7 + g 3.5 which barely count. And I was extremely active in the MLPArena Nirvana forums for years, which chronicle the bizarro 80's foreign releases. Ridiculous amounts of useless knowledge to the point that if you showed me a pic of a pile of common ponies with one rare Greek pony in it, I'd notice (and used to make money buying lots that way). So, if you want to know if your OC resembles a G1, G2 or G3 pony (whether that is something you WANT for ease of customs, or it is something you DON'T want because you want your pony to be unique), post its name and description here (or a drawing if you have one) and if I don't recognize it offhand, I will research it for you. The report will include: Ponies that have similar cutie marks, names, and mane/pelt combinations. Edit: About the "custom" portion of the report. While there may be several ponies that could technically, in the essence of brevity I am limiting the ease of customizing to the following criteria: No full-body painting or dyeing involved, and (besides the obvious repainting of the symbol which I am not counting), two additional forms of customization: either rerooting, dyeing the hair or sculpting, but no more than a combination of the two. "Minimal effort" means you will only have to either sculpt, dye or reroot, but not more than one. If there are too many to list, I am just going to name a handful of the most easily found and put "etc". Male ponies add an additional challenge since there were NO male unicorns or Pegasi in G1, only a handful of males in g2 (mostly Unicorns) and no males in g3. So there will be a little bit of "fudging" going on there. I am including the custom part of the report whether you customize or not, it just helps show what other ponies yours might be similar to.
  16. Another post on ED about this. I find it completely hilarious because for some reason I find anything associated with Molly Hatchet hilarious. My Little Pony's Buckin' the Odds VS Molly Hatchet's Beating the Odds
  17. She is lovely! I'd never mistake her for Sweetiebelle. Sweetiebelle's hair is much more pink and girly. You could always introduce some periwinkle tones to tie it to her cutie mark if you are still feeling it is too close, though. Her hair would look just like those moments right after sunset when the sun has gone down completely.
  18. Oh, a lot of actresses are really short. Shockingly short. Which is why it's really screwed up that the tabloids like to tell us their weight and size. of course they're 115 pounds, and a size 0. They're 5'1. And it contributed to why she was such a scaredy cat practically into adolescence.
  19. Imagine the SHIPPING that would happen then. (oh, man, I am sorry for that bad pun)
  20. it's not so much the color scheme as it is the exact tones of the colors you've chose. That orange and that purple are what is clashing. But what you have the purple is too cool, and the orange is too warm. But maybe a redder purple and a redder orange might get you better results? Or knocking the purple into the red spectrum entirely? Horizontal gradients on pony manes just look weird to me: But Hasbro has used similar color families to what you describe in your application and it is quite striking, you just need to settle on the exact colors that work together.
  21. I would be most thrilled if they brought these 5 ponies into the fray, since we will clearly never see Surprise, Posey, Sparkler, Twilight or Firefly. Baby Ribbs: Gusty, WITHOUT the Bart Simpson voice (thank you very much) Autumn Skye Barnacle Sweet Clover, in the colorway on the left. Things I don't want to see? FURBOBS
  22. I wanna hug apple bloom all the time, but I also had to vote for Sweetie Belle. She tries so hard.
  23. My character Jonagold doesn't have many friends in Appleoosa except the one I made up. He's looking for colts (and some less ladylike fillies) to cause "Our Gang/Little Rascals" style mischief in town. You know, peeking into the windows of the saloon and getting chased by the bartender, stealing carrots from a local farm, playing pranks on the locals. Just basically acting like a gang of boys from the 30's or so. No pegasus though, because he is way too jealous of their wings, and often tries to figure out how he can make his own. Wanna go on an adventure?
