  1. Hello, hello! Welcome to the Forums! I had no idea that the Derpy-dilemma had any reach outside of the brony community, but I'm glad that it brought in some extra fans such as yourself! Please enjoy yourself here. I'm still fairly new, but I've found that this is one of the most solid online communities that I've ever been a part of. P.S., give the RP forums a try, especially if you have ideas for your own characters!
  2. Roleplay Type: Mane Name: Crystal Pedigree Sex: Female Age: Mare Species: Unicorn Eye Color: Cyan Coat Color: Light Violet Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Both mane and tail are long and flowing. Both are deep blue, with streaks of soft pink. Physique: Tall and slender Cutie Mark: A sheet of unrolled parchment over-layed with a cut diamond (not pictured) Origin/Residence: Canterlot Occupation: Adviser and moderator for her father's business Motivation: Crystal Pedigree wants nothing more than to keep order and civility in her life. Likes: Keeping things organized Calm, constructive dialogue Living in luxury Keeping her family together Dislikes: Messiness When things don't go according to plan Arguments / Fighting The estrangement of her younger brother Character Summary: Crystal Pedigree is the first child of Archer Grand (Father) and Noblesse Oblige (Mother.) She is the older sister to Silver Mint. Crystal Pedigree has always been an upstanding and straight-arrow kind of unicorn. In school, she was always perfectly organized, and passed at the top of nearly all her classes. She's a sponge for information and knowledge, observing and taking note of almost everything in her presence. This, combined with her calm, understated demeanor, might have ostracized her as an "egghead," but because of her natural elegance and unintrusively friendly ways, she was always rather popular. Crystal Pedigree received her cutie mark in the middle of a heated argument between her father and her brother. With nothing but a few measured, calm words, she simultaneously defused their tempers and allowed them both to have their way with neither of them quite remembering what they were so upset about. Crystal Pedigree had no idea what her cutie mark truly meant until she consulted her mother, Noblesse Oblige, who explained to her that ponies who have the ability to create peace and order were of the highest caliber, and that she and Archer Grand had known from the day Crystal Pedigree was born that she'd be a very important pony someday, and that many great things were expected of her. Crystal Pedigree took these words to heart. She soon started focusing on learning what her magical abilities were, and quickly discovered that her magic was best used for quick organization, and the pacifying of ponies who were upset or angry. She's very, very cautious with the latter portion of her magical abilities, as she fears what sort of long-term effects it would have on a pony whose emotions were magically tampered with. Before long, Crystal Pedigree was out of school and was immediately given a job at her father's business as an adviser and moderator during business meetings. The business of "Money Management" doesn't necessarily excite her, but she enjoys working with her family and seeing her parents happy. Her only regret is that her brother, Silver Mint, is off roaming Equestria, dreaming of making a living performing onstage like some sort of show-pony. She envies his freedom, and resents that he and Archer Grand no longer speak to each other, as breaking a family-bond is the absolute worst thing anypony can do. However, she still loves her little brother, and will secretly mail him care-packages when his correspondences seem to dwindle. Crystal Pedigree is happy in her life, but dreams of something grander, even if she doesn't quite know what it is, yet.
  3. 'Ello, WhiteRap! Just so you know, I'm relatively new, too. However, I can tell you that this is one of the most solid online communities that I've been a part of. Oh, and if you have any tips or tricks on making minecraft skins, please post them, I'm sure there are more than a few people interested!
  4. If it's not too much to ask, what factors were used in deciding the percentage of completion?
  5. Sweet Celestia! I have an award! A major award! *does a little jig, with backflips, splits, and other obscenely awesome steps*

  6. Whoo, busy weekend is over, now it's time to relax with my favorite ponies (both canon and OC's!)

  7. Jupiter "Jynx "Nexus Fwomp! Jupiter "Jynx" Nexus hit the ground with the force of a small brick. The young foal had been running through the crowd to try and find the best seating for the fireworks that were going to go on tonight. He and his father had traveled all the way here from the Hoofington Observatory to see the fireworks (and, because the light pollution would make stargazing too difficult to do any real work.) Jynx looked over his shoulder to see what he had tripped over. It was a bag full of bits! Before he could say anything, though, an old stallion picked up the bag. "Why, thanks, sonny. I thought I'd lost that!" the stallion said gratefully. Jynx smiled and continued scurrying off to find the best place to view the fireworks. In the distance, he imagined he could hear his father calling his name in the distance, but he didn't care, the prospect of staying out late and watching brilliant bursts of light over the bay were enough to make him risk his father's displeasure.
  8. EEEEEE!!! It's adorable, and really worth the wait. I hereby award you with +2 internets and 5 degrees' worth of warm fuzzies. =D
  9. Silver Mint Silver Mint was about to answer when a curt voice interrupted: "You there," said a dark-pink unicorn with a black scarf and hat. "Might I take a look at that you've found? I'm a scholar of sorts. I might be able to decipher it." Silver Mint frowned. He had felt as though this unicorn was barging in on a secret find that he and his new friend had accidentally stumbled upon. However... it wasn't as though they'd be able to figure out what the message said. Silver Mint couldn't even tell what language it was in... probably some form of archaic Equestrian text, or maybe even Aquellian? He looked to Midnight to see what she thought, but she was looking away from the brash unicorn. Well, he'd dealt with bigger egos in the theater world, so maybe it was worth dealing with this odd unicorn mare, if only to find out what this parchment said. "Of course, we'd be happy for your help." he said, as politely as he could, but not giving up the parchment to the unicorn. "Let's go someplace a little less crowded though. I see there are some empty tables over by the Self-help Section. Only one dark-blue Pegasus over there, and she seems rather preoccupied." Without waiting for a response from the intrusive unicorn, he headed off towards the self-help section, parchment in hoof. He paused a moment to look over his shoulder at the violet unicorn who was quietly watching. "Oh, and please do come with us. I would never have found this without you. I think you deserve as much as anyone to know what it says." he said, with as warm a smile as he could muster.
  10. Silver Mint "Alright... Ready! Set! Go!" Silver Mint cried aloud as he and the tan pony started hauling their carts towards the reservoir. It certainly wasn't a race that would draw fans and cheers, as the fastest either could go was at a strained walking pace, but the effort required to haul the carts laden with wet, heavy snow made every step feel as though they had run a furlong. Now, while Silver Mint had a slightly stronger build than Page Turner, it was more than apparent that he had worked himself fairly hard already that day; traveling since the break of dawn, and fending off that manticore. Still, with a great amount of effort, he took a quarter-length lead over Page. A short ways ahead was the slope that led down to the reservoir where the snow was being dumped. If he could just get there before Page, the lead he'd take by letting the cart roll downhill behind him would be more than enough to finish in first! Legs aching, stomach rumbling, but with a heart of determination, Silver Mint did his best to keep his narrow lead...
  11. Silver Mint It took a while, but Silver Mint began getting used to the weight of the cart, he emptied it into the reservoir, and made the much-easier journey back up to the snow-laden trees. There, he saw the tan-coated pony from before, also waiting by the trees with an empty cart. Silver Mint's legs were sore, but he knew the best way to beat soreness was a distraction. "Hey!" he called to the other pony. "Once these carts are loaded up, care to see who can make it down to the reservoir first?" Silver Mint smiled. Some friendly competition should be all the distraction he would need to both get the work done, and overcome his tired muscles.
  12. Thank you so much! I will repay you in kind with warm-fuzzies and internets.
  13. Silver Mint "Oh, are you sure? I can look in another drawer if you would like..." the young mare said, looking down at the ground. Was she embarrassed? Silver Mint smiled, despite himself. He wasn't going to hog an entire drawer's worth of information to himself. Without a word, he pulled the entirety of the long thin drawer out from it's holder. "C'mon," he said as warmly as possible. "If we're both looking in the 'Entertainment and History' section, we may just be looking for the same thing. What are you looking for? I may have seen it before, since, Celestia knows, I've been delving the info in this drawer for the last couple days." He chanced a glance at the unicorn mare to see how she was reacting, but something else caught his eye. At the very back end of the drawer was a deep red piece of parchment that obviously wasn't a part of the card catalogue. He gingerly fished the parchment out from the drawer and looked at it. It appeared to be some old parchment someone had crammed into the back of the drawer and forgotten about. Why would they do that when there were dustbins readily available all over the library? He unfolded the sheet and looked at it. What he saw was a confusing mass of letters scrawled out in a language he didn't know... It read: "Reperies, qui exquirunt prudentiam, sed paratum et erit cum apparuerit?Voluit cognoscere quam cognoscant numquam eos sit. Ibunt in altum orci. Invenire te secreta Equestriae..." What was this?
  14. Silver Mint Silver Mint yelped aloud as he was spattered with snow from above. He shook himself dry, flinging bits of snow off his body. He laughed as he pictured how he must have looked. Alright, that had been enough time wasted. If he was going to eat, he had to earn that food! As quickly as he could, he began hauling the cart towards the now ice-free reservoir. Well, "quickly" was a relative term, as hauling a cart wasn't exactly Silver Mint's specialty. While he could keep the cart going at a fairly solid pace, his road-worn legs weren't exactly happy with his choice of labor. "C'mon, legs" Silver Mint urged, "Just a few more hours of work, and we'll be able to eat, and maybe even have a place to sleep for the night. Just stick with me..."
  15. Roleplay Type: Mane RP Name: Perihelion Sex: Male Age: Stallion Species: Earth Pony Eye Color: Light Brown Coat Color: Khaki Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Mane and tail are both kept medium length and are loosely styled to stay out of the way. Both are brown with streaks of gray. Physique: Very healthy for a middle-aged pony. He still has muscle on his average-sized frame. Cutie Mark: An observatory pointed at a single star Origin/Residence: Born in Manehattan, and moved to Hoofington Occupation: Physicist / Lead Astronomer of the Hoofington Observatory Motivation: Perihelion wants nothing more to raise his son, Jupiter "Jynx" Nexus, to be the best pony he could be, and to discern how the stars and planets affect the lives of ponies around the world. Likes: Spending time with his son Observing the heavens Quiet, but thoughtful rooms Teaching ponies about the wonders of the world around them Dislikes: Worrying about money. Needing to shout or be cross. Large crowds and excess noise. Ponies who are purposefully ignorant. Character Summary: History – Perihelion was born in the bustling burg of Manehattan, where he spent his youth accustomed to the bright lights and bustle of the big city. It wasn't until an overnight school field trip to the outlying farms that he first saw the night sky-- to him a vast midnight-blue shroud dotted with pinpricks of multi-colored lights. He knew then and there that he had to discover all he could about the infinite reaches of outer space and the mysteries of the heavens. Since then, he has grown up learning all he can in relation to the stars. He left school with a degree in astronomy, and caught the attention of an astrologer-mare named Heaven Light. The two hit it off right away and were quickly married. A year later, their son Jupiter Nexus was born. Unfortunately, Heaven Light is traveling on a three-year journey to the land of the zebras in order to learn what they know about astrology, so Perihelion is currently raising Jupiter Nexus and managing the Hoofington observatory. Cutie Mark Story – Perihelion's cutie mark is an observatory looking at a single star. He received it when he first looked through a telescope at what he thought was a rather uninteresting star, but actually found that it was a beautiful nebula. In that instant, Perihelion both recognized that even the most ordinary-looking things require a deeper examination, and received his cutie mark. He sees it as a symbol of his ability to see beyond what others might observe, and find the true nature of all things, be they big or small. Flaws – Perihelion suffers from a common affliction of the very intelligent, he can sometimes be condescending when he doesn't think a pony is capable of speaking on his intellectual level. He also has a tendency to worry about things... such as his wife's return, how his son will grow up, where the next grant of money will come from to keep the observatory operational... as well as his family fed and housed... this worrying is apparent in the streaks of grey in his mane and tail, which make him appear older than he actually is. He also has a nasty habit of working himself to the bone, and not sleeping enough, leading to some times of having to take days off of work in order to rest and recuperate. Personality -- Perihelion is a fairly reserved pony. His son, Jupiter Nexus often says "Papa doesn't talk much, so when he does, you know it's real important!" which, when Perihelion first heard it, was warmed to the core. He does his best to treat all ponies on his intellectual level, and is often pleasantly surprised to find that, when treated as though they're intelligent, most ponies are, in fact, capable of deep, wondrous thoughts. He enjoys working hard, both at his job and being a parent. (This pony was inspired by both the late Carl Sagan, and the fictional Atticus Finch, two great men ponified into what I hope will be a solid father-figure for not just Jupiter Nexus, but any young pony he happens to meet.)

  17. Yay! I love pony-art! Say, if you're interested in doing so OC sketches, would you be interested in doing a sketch of Silver Mint for me? As much as I love the pony-creator, I'd really like to have something to help SM stand out from the rest. (That, and he's one of my favorite characters I've created, so I want as much original art based around him as possible! XD) If you're not doing OC sketches though, I'd love to see one of a younger Big Macintosh with a foal-version of Applejack... maybe with her trademark hat still being too big for her? I demand that it be "DAWWW"-worthy! ...That is, if that's okay with you... of course....
  18. Alright! I have the first post up, and everyone is free to join in here. Hope to see you soon! (P.S. I think we'll be RP'ing with a group of 5-7, so be sure to post soon, before it's closed to the general public!)
  19. The Canterlot Library is one of the oldest buildings in all of Equestria, built even before the rule of the Princesses Celestia and Luna. It appears almost timeless from the outside, a single broad building surrounded with bright, stained glass patterns, coloring the interior with softened sunlight, perfect to read any of the tens of thousands of volumes available to the general public. It's commonly known that there are archives below the main floor of the library, old tomes, ancient scrolls of magic, and other sources of information that are too delicate... or too dangerous... for the everyday pony. However, few ponies know about the Deep Archives; a magically sealed sub-basement that spans a huge underground expanse, digging deep into the side of the very mountainside on which Canterlot was founded. Every 500 years, several unwitting ponies are selected, based on the extent of their fervor for the library's knowledge, to be magically teleported into the Deep Archives. There, the ponies will be tested on the extent of their knowledge to see if they're worthy of the information they seek. To be revealed in the next few pages are the accounts of several ponies who went through the Deep Archives... read... and enjoy... Silver Mint Silver Mint slammed another book shut in frustration, prompting the angry, hissing "sssh's" of a dozen other ponies in the Canterlot Library. He held his face in his hooves and rubbed his eyes. He was exhausted from looking through dozens of books. He was looking for a book with information on the First Era playwright, Stage Hoof. He was the one who developed the style of play that Equestria used today, and if he could understand the foundation of his craft, then he could probably take a step forward in his goal to be the greatest actor of his generation. He knew that if a book on Stage Hoof existed, it would most likely be in the Canterlot Library, but so far, nothing but a passing mention in "Equestrain Culture, Past and Present," and a short paragraph in "The History of Equestrian Playwrights." Silver Mint looked up from his book and around the vast main chamber of Canterlot Library. In addition to the innumerable shelves of books, spread across three stories of ancient, pure-white stone, a vast stained-glass skylight, depicting the Princesses Luna and Celestia circling each other, the Sun and Moon in their respective wakes, spread a soft, natural light over the library's main floor, where dozens of ponies sat reading, browsing shelves, or simply just marvelling at one of Canterlot's most iconic and historic buildings. These things weren't lost on Silver Mint, but he had to ignore them. He had a mission, and he was hoof-bent on completing it. Silver Mint groggily put his book on the return cart, amid the many others he had placed there. The librarian pony on the front desk gave him a dirty look, but he didn't care. He had to find out about Stage Hoof! He made his way back to the card catalogue and hoofed his way through the cards looking in vain for something that might lead to any information on Stage Hoof. As he reached to pull out one of the card-laden drawers, his hoof bumped another that was reaching for the same drawer. "Oh, I'm sorry, go right ahead." He said, withdrawing his hoof and turning to the pony he had bumped.
  20. Silver Mint Silver Mint felt his face grow warm as he blushed in the wake of all the compliments. He hadn't been praised like that since he'd received his cutie mark as a foal, and that was years ago. "I just... well... I was only... I mean... thanks." He said; an actor at a loss for words. Then, finding he didn't feel comfortable standing amidst a large crowd of ponies he didn't know when he had just agreed to help them clean up their Winter. Without a word, but instead an encouraging smile, he made his way to one of the free-standing empty carts and hitched himself to it. He looked over the group of ponies he had just met, Dunder, Muggo', Parhelion, Page, Cloudchaser, Silverbolt, and the others who were standing by... all of whom he may have considered calling 'friends,' even though he had only just met them. He shook his head in a "come on!" motion, and began hauling the cart towards the nearest snow-laden tree. His stomach roared as a reminder that he had yet to ingest anything since earlier that morning. He silently told it to keep quiet; if he helped these ponies clean up their Winter, then he'd get some food (or at least some bits to buy some.) He promised himself that he'd work hard to earn as much as he could, and that brought a genuine smile to his face.
  21. Silver Mint Silver Mint gratefully accepted the towel and began drying himself off. He then wrapped the towel over himself to act as a blanket of sorts. He nodded to the dark blue pegasus who had provided it. "Thanks," he said, holding out of hoof for a hoof-shake. "The name's Silver Mint." He smiled wanly. Nopony seemed too upset about the situation, or that he'd quite possibly put everypony's well-being in danger. He took the lack of cruel stares and rebukes as a good sign and decided to take in the entirety of the situation around him. Numerous carts were positioned under snow-laden trees, many of them loaded with snow, and in various states of being taken to the resevoir to be emptied and refilled. So this town... (Ponyville, wasn't it?) WAS in fact cleaning up their Winter, but instead of doing it over the course of a few weeks like Canterlot and Fillydelphia, it appeared as though they were going to attempt a full clean-up in the course of a day. It seemed as though they still had a lot of work to do... "Hey!" Silver Mint piped up, he turned to the Pegasus whose hoof he was still shaking. "It looks like you're all trying to clean up your Winter. Don't suppose you could use an extra hoof who could use a few bits, or even just some food...?"
  22. How about: The Canterlot Library is one of the oldest buildings in all of Equestria, its public areas being constantly renovated to serve the needs of the hundreds of ponies who browse its tomes every day. However, unknown to the general public, there are secret areas of the library which contain volumes on the hidden secrets from times before the rule of Celestia. Soon, the 500th anniversary of the opening of the library will arrive, and a small group of unknowing ponies, each of whom is looking for special information, will be magically transported to the very depths of the library, far from the gentle rustling of pages and scribbles of pens. On this journey, each pony will be given a chance to find not just the information they were looking for, but information that could change the way they look at the world forever. The Grand Archivist will see if these ponies are worth of the knowledge they seek, and decide whether or not to impart its knowledge to them. Coming soon, to an RP forum near you. Does that sound interesting? A library adventure for a group of rag-tag ponies who may-or-may-not know each other?
  23. Silver Mint "Ya sure this'll work, b'y?" shouted the large pony, leaping from an ice patch back to the shore. Silver Mint shook his head, but followed the gray-maned pony's lead, shakily jumping from the shore to what few stable ice-islands remained. "I have no idea, actually. I'm just improvising!" he answered as honestly as he navigated his leaps towards the beast. Silver Mint quickly learned that following a manticore out onto the failing surface of an iced-over resevoir was, in fact, not the best idea he'd ever had, but he felt the need to help the three Pegasi who were still holding the beast's attention. Silver Mint leapt from patch of ice to patch of ice, each time, leaving more and more splintering cracks where his hooves made contact with the ice. He made a final daring leap onto the large ice flow that still held the manticore, though it its integrity was failing fast. As Silver Mint landed, his hooves lost traction on the slick ice, and he lost control of his speed and movement, desperately flailing to try and stay upright, he slid heavily into the side of the manticore, who was distracted with the Pegasi until he solidly rammed into it, knocking it sideways. As both Silver Mint and the Manticore tried to keep their balance, their many feet and hooves dancing heavily over the thin, thin, ice; there was a final massive sound of "Crrk. Crrk... CRUNCH!" as the ice shattered. The manticore fell into the ice-cold water, letting out a roar of indignation and surprise. Utilizing its mighty wings, it heaved its cold, sopping wet body out from the lake and began flying away towards the Everfree forest. It let out a final, rather pitiful roar as it flew off, trying desperately to retain its dignity. Silver Mint found himself laying splayed-legged on his stomach on a small ice island that was bumpily drifting back to shore on the waves caused by the manticore's splash into the water. He was breathing heavily, the few minutes of danger and excitement catching up to him at last. He gathered his wits enough to begin paddling his small ice-float back to shore with his front hoofs. Once ashore, Silver Mint shakily made his way onto the shore and looked back out at the resevoir. It appeared that the ice had been broken up into small enough pieces that they were starting to melt on their own, now. It certainly made the area feel less Winter-y. Wait a minute-- What had he been thinking? He had no business trying to take on a manticore like that! It was incredibly dangerous, he could have been seriously hurt-- or worse. The large pony's words still echoed in his head: "Ya sure this'll work, b'y?" If it had been that obvious Silver Mint didn't know what he was doing, he never would have done anything in the first place... his heart sank at the thought that he had put these other ponies, who he didn't even know, in harm's way due to his impulsive ideas. He felt his face go hot with embarrassment as he realized how foolishly he had acted. "Is... is everypony alright?" he asked the group at large, still trying to catch his breath and calm down from the adrenaline rush he had just gone through.
  24. Yes. "What," is the question. The answer: Friendship = 42 > Twilight Sparkle's Plot. Mind, I may have been nodding off through some of the more technical aspects of the lecture, but I think I have enough memorized to pass the test.
  25. In reading through some of the various RP's on Canterlot, I've noticed many different kinds of formatting in terms of the writer's POV when writing and how dialogue and addressing other ponies in exposition. From what I've seen, most posts are presented in Limited Third-Person Past Tense, but some go into Third-Person Present (which, while it does throw me off a little bit, isn't a problem for most readers.) Also, I've noticed that when some ponies speak: "It's done in a character color to set it apart from the exposition," and when addressing another pony in exposition, it's done in the color of said pony's coat-color to let the casual reader know that their character is being referenced. I like many of these simple steps to make reading long stretches of posts easier, but I was simply wondering if there was a Canterlot-Standard in terms of how an RP post should be written and formatted?
