Hello everybody, I'm updating to announce this blog will no longer be updated and I will be using a Tumblr account in it's place. This is mainly to help get word around to a broader audience than a single forum.
This tumblr page will be updated daily in smaller amounts, and will be recapping most of the stuff already covered in this blog along with brand new material not covered. It will also act as an ask a pony blog, with Beanseh slowly leaking out information until the game's release.
If you are interested, please visit The Beanseh Report by clicking the link and feel free to ask a question.

Among the playable roster are 2 OCs, one of them being Hawkeem the Griffin Sage.

    Name: Hawkeem
    Race: Griffin
Description: Hawkeem's an old griffin whose once dedicated his life to protecting the innocent and training future heroes. He specializes in using magic tablet called Runes and uses his wisdom to solve most of his problems.
Personality/Relationships: Over the years he's become cynical, lazy and apathetic over the years, often taking advantage of schmucks willing to do his dirty work. He still keeps a good relationship with civilians and still gives advice to those that need it, even if everyone thinks of him as a washed up has-been.
He was never close to anyone except his former students, who all unfortunately met early ends due to the dangers within the kingdom. He also has a very negative relationship with Czar, the griffin king, who he considers a nag.
If there is something he is not thrilled about, it's the idea of taking in anymore students.
Overall, he's a friendly guy, just introverted and lazy.
Role in the Game: Hawkeem is a playable character and takes the role of co-main character. Being an OC, he can develop as a character without classing with canon. He joins the party in Chapter 5 (early in the game) and explains the Rune System.
Gameplay Mechanics - Rune Attacks: After Hawkeem attacks, he'll immediately do a second attack using a rune. There are 5 different variants he may use, the weakest having the highest chance, the strongest having the lowest. Also 3 of them are unlocked from the start, so you will have to work for them.

So the game's been coming along all much faster than usual, and over the last 3 days, I've completed 4 characters, and finished half of a brand new one over the course of 4 hours. Because of this, I might be in the Alpha stage much sooner than expected, once I complete every character, design their rune system and get enough music to begin development. Who knows, I might have beta testing as early as mid-July!
    1 - Rainbow Dash's Fly Ability
Earlier versions of Rainbow Dash had so choosing the Fly command would just open up an alternative command list upon her next turn. This was lame, so very lame. I wanted an ability that mimicked the nature of the Kain's Jump from Final Fantasy 4. After much head banging an tearing out my hair, I have finally accomplished it.
Now, when Fly is chosen, she will instead disappear from battle for two turns, and then strike dealing 220% damage. While not great considering it takes 3 turns to do this, it's Rainbow Dash we're talking about, her speed makes up for it.
It should be noted it is still very glitchy. I hope to fix it before the Vanilla version is released, but promises are not being made, the RPG03 system fought me to get this far, I don't know how much further I can take it.
    2 - Big Macintosh's Heroic Wind
Big Macintosh is the most straight forward character in the game. He has an high stats overall and a power up he can't utilize, and you know what, I'm just fine with that. However, I decided to give him a gimick to keep him useful to his more diverse allies. He actually gets stronger as he takes damage. The lower his HP, the more he takes.
    3 - Iron Will and Gilda's Rage
While I'm trying to make every character unique, some of the character not in the mane party will share abilities, like the Rage command. How rage works, is that the character will automatically attack 4 times. Essentially it's Applejack's Combo command but it doesn't need to build up. the catch, however, is that after using Rage, the character will lost half their HP and enter a resting state for 5 turns. In the resting state, the character's defense in halved, but they will regain 5% of their HP every turn. Because of this, they are vulnerable to enemy attacks, and even after recovery, are missing 25% of their health. While an extremely deadly technique, it is a double edged sword that should be used sparingly.

    4 - Sweetie Belle's Packing Heat!!

    5 - What's Left
A few characters still need special abilities and I plan on redoing all of Twilight's Solar Magic animations and Fluttershy's Summon animation. After that, they will need to be rebalanced to avoid god-tier parties. I want the player to use their favorites, not the best, afterall. I still have a few glitches to fix, and after that, I'll finally have all the characters completed.
Afterwards, I'll start designing the enemies, the maps and getting music, then I'll be in the Alpha stage.
I'd like to note the original version to come out will be a Vanilla edition, and I do plan on making an updated version based on player input.
6 - What am I Going to Do
I'm gonna take a bloody break. 3 days, no working on the game. I'm done... for now.
-------------Next Update will be on an OC-------------

Along with Pinkie Pie, Applejack has also proven to be problematic. However, her problem was the exact opposite, she was just so level headed and straight foward it proved difficult to come up with a good move set for her out side of one move does 100 damage, the other does 120. All she had going for her was high HP, attack and defense stats, and honestly wasn't that fun to use.
Finally, I've found the solution. She is now a momentum character. When she attacks, the number 2 appears on her portrait, and it continues to grow every time she attacks.
How it works, is she also has a Combo command, where she deal 65% of the damage she normally does. While this may sound useless, the catch is she attacks the same amount of times she has built up on her portrait, and each hit still has a chance of being a critical hit.
While by default, she can only build up 2 hit, an addition 6 can be unlocked. If 8 hits are built up, she will essentially deal 520% damage in a single turn.
This of course comes with a setback. Everytime she uses one of her special moves or an item, her hit counter will decrease by 1. This was implemented for balancing issues more than anything. Also obviously, using her Combo attack automatically sets the counter to 0.
With this, Applejack is easy the hardest hitting character in the game, at the cost of patience and practicality.
Now if only I could perfect Rainbow Dash's Fly ability...

Of all the characters, Pinkie Pie has probably been the most problematic of them all. This is due to her random nature, something that just took me a while to figure out how to recreate. I considered giving her a list of moves that would alternate randomly, but then it just made her seem unreliable and useless, since it would be impossible to plan a strategy around her. I also considered giving her a large moveset, but that made her too powerful, good for any occasion, along with eliminating the random factor.
Finally, I came up with the solution.
In battle, Pinkie Pie has only one move, Pinkie Slots. It works similar to Setzer's abilitiy from FF6, except it can be upgraded.
By default, it is very limited, four options, two of theme kind of suck.
Edit: Those 4 options sucked in a practical sense, so now she has 8 by default.
However by upgrading her ability, she can actually pull off some of the deadliest moves in the game, provided you are lucky enough to use them.
Through this and her decent speed, she will not only remain useful, but will also retain her random nature.
And I'd be lying if I didn't say she wasn't my favorite design so far.
    * One of her Pinkie Slot abilities is literally throwing her enemies a party.
It does damage... somehow. And confuses them. It's also one of her
    best attacks.
** The enemies shown are stand ins for the Pre-Alpha testing.
*** Try not to get 3 Pinkie Pies in a row, it will crash the game, hee hee.

So I'm currently working on a game, using the RPG Maker 2003 engine. It's coming along nicely but I'm still in the pre-alpha stage. The battle system still has a few bugs in it and the skill shop will take some time to program for every character.
So I'd like to share, if anyone's interested the finished design for the world map.
Note: the game will primarily take place in the Griffin Kingdom, however Ponyville and Canterlot will appear.

While development has been slow (considering I have a one man team) the game should come together very quickly when I start actually programming the story. I hope to be in the alpha stage by July and have the game completed by November. No promises are being made. I'll also release the first trailer once I have footage for a trailer.
I'd also like to note that I'll be looking for help into making MIDI music in the future. I'll probably start auditioning halfway through June.

When I first started developement, one of the first things I decided to do is use OC's for most of the supporting cast, allies and enemies. This was because I wanted to tell a story, without rehashing old ideas already done before. To start off the OC entries, I'm going with the Conductor, the first encountered in the game.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*The Conductor's Sprite is outdated and will be replaced later during development
Name: Unknown (Many just call him the Conductor)
    Race: Diamond Dog
Description: The Conductor is one of the deadliest thugs in Equestria, often taking jobs targeting ponies in high positions of power. He specializes in marksmanship, however he is not nearly as effective close quarters. It should be noted, he has only failed three hits in his career, one on Celestia, and two on Krastos the Glue Maker. He also always disguises himself for every mission, this time being a train conductor, hence his nickname.
Personality/Relationships: He prefers to keep to himself, just to avoid any possible backstabbers, but will also become totally loyal to anyone paying him to do a job. He is more than willing to take hostages and even endanger bystanders in order to complete his mission.
His relationship with clients are purely business, and he has no problem going after an old client if the new one is paying him well enough. He also doesn't hold grudges against Celestia or Krastos, both were simply targets, nothing personal. He however, has took it upon himself to hunt down his nemesis, Beanseh.
Role in the Game: The Conductor will act as a recurring boss character and the main mook working for the main antagonist. Everytime he is fought however, he will make use of a different weapon, and will get more and more creative as to how to subdue the heroes. His character will be expanded everytime he appears, including his morals and backstory. Who knows, I might even reveal his name. That's not a hint, I currently am still deciding whether or not to even give him one.
Please, if you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to leave a comment below.
    Early Concept Sketches:

  8. SuperWriter
The game will feature 21 playable characters, all of which will have unique abilities to help the player succeed.
    These abilities include:
    Twilight's wide range of skills
    Rainbow Dash's flying
Pinkie Pie's attack command has random effects
    Fluttershy's ability to summon beasts
    and much more...
Some characters have proven to be, problematic, due to constraints of the RPG 2003 engine. Because of this, certain abilities might have to be removed, such as:
Derpy using 2 items in one turn
and the CMC doing team attacks
Note: All 21 characters are at least in the pre-alpha stage, I just erased some names to avoid spoilers.

Also, the 21st character is an extremely out of place guest character with no role in the story. He/she is only there due to my strange sense of humor.
