You're an inspiring figure in this burgeoning po'munnity. Stuff like your music and some of the other fan art out and about have motivated me to develop my art. I'm probably not alone in this.
  3. There's just so much in this episode. So, so much. The pacing was perfect. A lot was being developed and discussed here. Every mane character was developed. We got to see Spikeall grow'd up -- an inversion of the episodes "see them younger" theme. Celestia's Sunrise justified her reign. Magnificent. I get why ponies bow in her presence now. Setting was developed. We got to see more of the familiar locations -- Cloudsdale, Canterlot, Ponyville, and got a whole different sort of setting: Manehattan's big city (the shot of AJ looking out over the cityscape, forlorn, was amazing. People don't talk about the backgrounds much, but god, they are always gorgeous). We got a new song, sung by someone who hasn't had one yet. It wasn't my fave, but I'm sure I will grow to love it like I did with some of the others. We got an amazeballs action sequence. The Sonic Rainboom is a glorious sight to behold. Yeah, it was terrible.
  4. Rue Rue's Cutie Mark detail: Rue was intended as a last shebang in the traditional style I've been messing with, and is the first OC here I've deseigned, pencilled, and pixelled from scratch. This works because of the polish. SOme of the fundamentals are lacking. But I'm satisfied with it. Ace High My first in this new style. I'm in LOVE with this one. A few problems, but line of action, and line weight give this punch. Experimentation Win. This was based on Bannhammer's design, but pencils and pixels were me. And from here on down you can assume as much unless I say otherwise. Appliance A continuation of Ace High's style above, but more refined. The fundamentals of this image arent as good as Ace's, but the polish is much more. IMO, it's not as good, but I still like it. OC deisgn by Appliance and Davroth.
  5. Completed: Trixie & Pixie All me, except Trixie's original design, of course. Silver Lining: -> -> Co-designed by Dessa & brianblackberry. Spriting & font by Dessa. Composition by Brian. Martini Paradise: -> -> -> (It looks like I made a mistake with the coloring at first) Design & composition by brianblackberry. Spriting & font Dessa. Teensy weensy things These were mostly just for practice sake, and/or for small size Steam icons, which are 32x32 Works in progress: Silver Lining Smileys: By: Me. This project is on permanent hiatus. I'll revive it if there's demand, or if the whim strikes me. I also made these. They're older and not up to my current standards, and I go back and forth on whether I will go in to revise them: Aqua Drop ( I was supposed to be a short, easy project! Oops! ) v -> Original painting by Mudbug, for Aquadrop. I originally didn't intend to put the Mucha-style border around her, but I realized far too late to fix things that I had a bunch of extra space and I needed a good way to use it. Mucha was fond of these curvy sorts of drawing with heavy borders, so it was a good fit. The bubbles in the border were just a happy accident -- Circles fit nicely and bubbles can be easily scaled down to 1 pixel. I still have to add "garnish" to the 4 corners. I was thinking sea plants, but I might just opt for something geometric like Celtic knots instead. And just for horseappless and giggles, a palette swap of the above. This is Lava Drop. She lives in the center of the earth. Random Manestream icon I have a bunch of frames drawn to animate this, but I never bothered sequencing them.
  6. Are you stuck with those particular colors? There's a bit of redundancy with the blues. 4 blues, but only the body and outline are really apparent. When you're working with tiny sprites, you need more contrast. THe placement of the darker blue on the body seems a bit random. Is it supposed to be shadow? You could use one of those blues for antialiasing instead to clean up the lines. The neck is a problem area. There's a block of dark pixels there that doesn't particularly work., and a weird jaggy out the back. Why is the front hoof rounded and the rear one squared? The mane could stand a bit taller. It'd also give you more space for more colors. Depending on how tight your colors end up being, you could save on mane colors by just using the primaries instead of the full 6-color spectrum. The ear seems a bit big, but it's more in the chibi style, which is next to necessary on a sprite this small. Focus on the IMPRESSION that the pixels leave, rather than any detail. Look at how Monet or Renoir use color splotches to "suggest" rather than "illustrate." So much of pixel work is tricking the brain by making it "fill in" what's not there. I'll come at this with edits after I've run my daily errands.
  7. Are you stuck with those particular colors? 14 should be enough colors to pull this off.

    DESKTOP PONIES!

Yeah, the art is sloppy. It needs to be cleaned up. I'd do something along these lines That could probably use additional work too. The boy is a little short, and the butt pooches out a little too far, but it's better. Cleaned up the lines. Rounded off corners. Got rid of some outlines (they're clutter in tiny spaces). Forgot to add the wings back in. Oy, the wings. Scoot walks with them raised sometimes. It'd read better. These icons were made by a programmer, not a pixeller
  9. I'm still working on this, albeit slowly. I've mostly been going back and retouching the existing ones. I often consider starting over from scratch, because there are a few elements here that make things hard. The first 3 have been revised. Simpler hairstyle. It makes more sense in 3d, and gives her a little depth. Smoothing out all the lines. 23 pixels is a cramped space to work with. Certainly possible, but hard. I know I could make some ****ty ones and finish them fast, but if I want this to endure and/or be a part of the forum's legacy, then they need to be as good as I can make them. So, what is the :awesome: face? I've determined to redo a few of the expressions, but the first 4 at least are solid poses. I was really on a roll with those. I shouldn't have kicked up side projects...
  10. Part of it is framing and staging. Twilight's back mane usually hangs over the camera side. It defines her neck and looks prettier. Rarity's coiffure almost always falls away from camera, so you can see her face. As you can see in the image above, Pinkie Pie's lock looks the same wheter she's facing left or right, but when she's facing forward, it turns sideways. A few of these things have to do with readability.
  11. This happens a lot, it seems. Twi's back-mane switches sides a lot too, as does the fall of Rarity's curls. They play fast and loose with the asymmetries.
  12. It's something more than a few fans are thinking. Even if this wasn't intended, I wouldn't be surprised to see it become fanon.
  13. I put this in here because I had thought Caramel's change was an animator's error at first, but that was before I realized that there was an intermediate stage. Now I wonder if they intended this.
  14. It was a filler episode, but it establishes a few things going forward: 1. Everypony has met Celestia, so there will be no need for introductions. Just like "Winter Wrap-Up" was a set up for "Fall-Weather Friends." WWU told us ponies control the changing of the seasons so they didn't have to in FWF. 2. Celestia's personality was developed, but I still wonder if she has any personality flaws. Nice to see she's not just the generic benevolent ruler pony at least.
  15. I'VE BEEN WATCHING THIS FOR THE LAST SIX MINUTES.
  16. If someone else wants Bloomburg, that's fine with me.
  17. Nonetheless, the HUB needs to show television advertisers that people are watching, and it can't do that with Youtube views. They need to convince cable companies to pick up their programming and to put their channel on basic packages. These require television viewership. Yes, to US it's all about how much does this cost, can we get this on cable without paying an arm and a leg. But Hasbro has their own interests in mind, and Comcast and other cable providers have their own interests. Comcast can't use lawsuits to threaten pulling down media for someone else's copyright, nor do they care enough to do so. This is about the interests of Hasbro's toy sales division versus their television division.
  18. You're all forgetting that Hasbro is co-owner and co-founder of the Hub. Toy sales are their base, but they've sunk money into the Hub and they don't want to see it fail. And unless they have an agreement to share toy profits, their partner, Discovery Communications, gets nothing from toy sales. This puts pressure on Hasbro to kill net showings. Frankly, I think Hasbro is happy for the attention right now, but if/when this thing reaches critical mass, they'll squelch YouTube showings in ten seconds flat.
  19. Moved this post into your other thread. You can delete this.
  20. Another This one is much closer to "actual eye distance," as opposed to the first, which would require a giant head with spaced eyes. As such, the 3d is subtler. Not as cool at the first, but I just can't get enough 3D. Edit: OTOH, this one really shows off their attention to detail. Scoot, AB, and that tree are all on separate planes. The foreground gets 2 planes (near grass and less near grass) and the background seems to get only 1, which seems appropriate (its harder to distinguish depth the further away things are). Also, Apple Bloom just happened to be walking in such a way that her far hoof seems further than her near, so even she's a little 3d in this image. In animation, she just has one layer, but here she's got 2.
  21. That might just be the old animation trope too. Like where Wile E. Coyote dies in one scenes, and is healthy in the next.
  22. Hmm... Well, for anyone reading this far down, if your character doesn't get a vote, there are at least a hundred characters here (or it feels like it) and many more in other places. Most people won't get votes. I don't RP, so I'm kinda just going off pictures and what people tell me. Other people have their own silly reasons. This isn't a poll of the best OC pony, just peoples' favorites. Also, you could be everyone's third favorite, which would make you really popular, but get you zero votes. I'm just saying there's a million reasons why your pony might not get a vote that have nothing to do with your pony's level of awesomeness.
